When U are getting older, but U are still completely in love with the Hurricanes and each other like Fran and his wife of over 40 years Jean (seen below with RandyCane at R at The Shark) you don't mind driving five hours from DeBary to get to the Stadium when the gates open four hours before kickoff. Hard core UM fans are like that, and to them losing really losing hurts. But even after the tough loss to Clemson they said that they will be back to see their team again soon, just as sure as they are married.
When U love your team more than life itself, it hurts so bad to lose. After the game was over we found the JSQ in tears and threatening suicide (we think she was kidding about running out into traffic?). Text message reports from her friends were that they had her on "close watch" and that it took "sight and sound supervision" to keep her away from the traffic flow headed out of The Shark. Not even the now infamous orange and green jello shots were going to wash away her pain on this night.
The word on the street is that the JSQ is scheduled to be released from the Crisis Stabilization Unit today at 4 PM with her new anti-depressant prescription. Please whatever U do, no more sharp objects around her at the tailgate party!
When you hate losing more than death like me (#86) and Lamar Thomas (#36) do, then losing, like love, stinks. Long time Canespacer Calvin can tell U that a few months ago when someone posted on the blog that the world was going to end on December 12 of 2012, I posted this comment: "As long as Miami wins one or two more national championships by then I'm cool with that." I meant it too; every word of it.
When U bleed orange and green like MiamiMike01 and RandyCane (seen above, front C and middle C with Fran, Mitch, Money, MoneyGirl and Jean) U do what U can to support your Hurricanes. They drove all the way from Jacksonville to attend the game only to see their U go down to the Tigers at the Shark. After the game when we were back on the patio by the pool at the lovely Hampton Inn in Plantation, Mike and I tried to drink away the pain of losing with a bottle of Tequilla (Patron of course). The remedy was only partially successful as we found out the next morning that the pain was still there, but had moved from our hearts to our heads.
When U follow the team with The U on their helmet for a living like AngryCane and Canechic do (seen above during happier times at the UCF tailgate party with daughter Nicole and friends), U have no problem making the four hour trip from Orlando for every UM home game since time began. And, U would rather take a sharp stick in the eye than lose another ACC game at home. Angry didn't get his name for nothing and after the loss he required a minimum safe distance of 6 feet. Anything within in striking distance is at risk of serious, and at times even life threatening, injury. Canespace is NOT responsible for any damages if U fail to follow safe handling instructions included with the blog.
But when U really love the Hurricanes, U will travel by air, water or even foot if U have to just to get to see them play. Original Canespacer HurricaneMitch (he hardly ever blogs now, but he's still around) flew in from Nebrsaka just to see the Canes play live at The Shark. Above U see him signing the famous Canespace banner at the tailgate party before the game. The banner has been signed by hundreds of Canes fans from all over the Country and a few former players like Lamar Thomas #36 and Russell Maryland #67 and others.
So to U lazy fans out there who live within driving distance to the stadium and choose to sit at home to watch the game instead of going to The Shark like the REAL fans seen here, U are pathetic. U simply don't love your team like we do. No, U don't. Get off the damn couch and get into the game.
If we don't see U at The Shark for the next game I will have no choice but to send my boys AngryCane and his partner in crime MoneyCane (seen below) after your sorry azzes. And it will NOT be pretty, trust me on this.

It is time for AB to step up. If he cannot get any significant playing time with the amount of injuries we have and the shortgae at LB, it is safe to say he is a bust. Line him up, take away pass coverage responsibilites and let him run to the ball!

Time for the Canes to go on a 4-0 run through these conf games.
I have faith that GT and VT will loose one more time in conf as well.

For those of you making comments about the lack of crowds you see at our home games I simply ask…..Where have you been??? Unless Miami is playing a marquee matchup (FSU, Notre Dame, USC, etc…), they are not going to fill up a stadium. I don’t care if it’s Land Shark or the OB. It has always been this way and it’s one of the knocks I get (being a Miami fan) from other teams fans. Heck, one of my closest co-workers is a Husker so he is always brining this up.
The only way the Hurricanes sell out every home game would be if A) every other sports team in Miami leaves, B) Miami builds an “on-campus” stadium. Like UCF’s Bright House stadium but made of concrete and not aluminum, lol. C) Give away tickets or D) 86 has a free canespace t-shirt for the first 80,000 people.

Honestly think about it Arthur Brown, there is another issue, maybe related to the way BBrown acted. Maybe coming to Canefest with a tenn jersey with Arthur. Its past any common sens. I do not believe it is Browns lack of getting it, I see brown fly on special teams.
I feel Shannon just does not like Brown for some reason at this pt. its personal, that is just my opionion based on basic logic.
Posted by: dlu | October 27, 2009 at 01:35 PM
when Arthur got an opportunity he didn't capitalize on it. And now he's back on the bench. I don't think there is any conspiracy to it. Just needs to do what the coaches ask him to do. With that said...with all these injuries they need to get him in there just so the other guys can get a breather if nothing else.
Posted by: Esteban | October 27, 2009 at 01:41 PM
I think Arthur is working hard and we'll see him eventually. If Randy had it "out" for him do you really think Arthur would still be here?

The guys need to get a 3rd down stop if they are getting tired. Easiest wat to get a rest, 3 and OUT. (but when that fails yes we need some back ups)

Best way for this D to get a stop on 3rd down is on 3rd and short. I am honestly way more confident in our D on 3rd and under 5 than I am on over 5 until it gets over 25 or so. even then I am not entirely sure they wont get called for a dumb penalty like PI or D-holding. If the rules were a set of 3 downs we would dominate!

got blocked easy. looked lost to an extent - might just be perception. and looked small - which he is, so that just is what it is. but hopefully a full week of practicing with the 1st team will help with some of that.

Agree on the third downs. Our front 7 can step up on the run but has issues applying pressure with just a four man rush.
Thanks Esteban

Jacory's TD after giving up the pick 6 to me was play of the year, and why I wouldnt trade him for anyone, but that play alone should have had us still throwing, instead of the 2 occurrances of run 3 and punt/FG

Philly brau, I made the following point to a total stranger sitting next to moi, at the local sports bar, last Saturday. Albeit he was a college football fan, because he had his eye on the Miami vs. Clemson game.
I told this old school cat, that after JaCory threw the T.D., after a deflating INT, he'd win the Heisman Trophy his Junior or Senior season ( That's IF he stays around for his Senior year. ).
For Harris to comeback after being knockdown like that took absolute MOXY. A MOXY he nurtured on the streets of Miami.
Because, not too many major college football QB's, especially juniors and or seniors, could throw a length of the field T.D., after throwing an INT for touchdown the previous play.
Yes indeed, that's what I told this kool kat. In other words, I said Harris has PSYCHOLOGICAL TOUGHNESS!
Man, I still absolutely tought Team Shannon would win after that tight TD pass.

I heart Jacory as much as the next guy but... he just threw the ball far enough away from the dbs and didn't overthrow TBenjamin. The play call showed Jacory the coaches have faith in him. The throw was a good, on-the-money throw but I think some of us are seeing too much into it.
I'm very confident Jacory will be here for his senior year. I would like to see more discipline from him as far as turn overs. Not just the ints but the lack of urgency in the pocket, often times resulting in fumbles. He has a Farve/Marino like issue where he just chucks the ball up into some dangerous situations. They got away with it because of their arm strength. He gets away with it because in high school and college his receivers are men playing with boys.
JMO, remember
I HEART JACORY as much as the next guy (or previous guy)

``Against Clemson, when Sean went down, Coach put me in and I played good,'' Buchanan said. ``I played a lot of snaps last week. I'll probably play a lot more snaps this week coming up because we all know Sean is down for a little bit right now.''
from SMD the Herald.

DZ8, yeah, that makes sense about the LBs.
I'd put Ponder ahead of Jacory in most categories right now, which is as it should be. He's a RS junior. He should be ahead, and he's a very talented kid to begin with. It's a disgrace. Honestly, he should be in the Heisman talk because FSU probably doesn't win a game this year without him and he's outperformed T-Bone and McCoy.
I'd say Schnell walked into a situation more demanding than Shannon because Schnell had NO HISTORY or tradition, and definitely not facilities.
Posted by: Captain Optimist aka Cavaleer | October 27, 2009 at 03:13 PM
In other news, why is Christian Ponder getting complete ignored by all these QB awards people?
How in the hell do Jacory and Matt Barkley make the Davey O'Brien list but not Ponder??
Disgraceful and ridiculous.

Tebow should be getting a lifetime acheivement award but his stats this year are NOT heisman worthy.
Fair point about Schnell, but I think it is a half full/half empty debate.
He also didn't have a conference to impact his schedule.
He didn't have any great expectations put upon him, just his own.
Facilities sucked but I think thats how he would've designed it.
Schnell played for Bear at Kentucky. When he found out about The Junction Boys at Texas A&M he made some comment like, 8 days? We had to go thru three weeks!

DZ8, yeah, Jacory does need more discipline with the ball and more urgency in the pocket. He's too cool sometimes, like against VT and at times against UCF. But against FSU he showed great pocket presence and movement under pressure. Quicker movements and reads are really the point, when to duck and run and when to throw it away quickly. He has the footspeed, he's just learning the actual footwork along with the mental work.
He'll develop those though.

Do you think Randy wouldnt play the #1 recruit in the nation if he knew it would help, just cause he didn't like his brother?
Do you think he's liked every kid he started?
Shannon knows his azz is on the line this year. Canes go bust and lose two more games the last half of this year and he's going to be looking for a job.
If Arthur could play, he would play.
He can't, so he isn't.
Posted by: pb(CSROH10) | October 27, 2009 at 03:30 PM
PB, if those fools at CG are stupid enough to fire Shannon even after a 4-loss season, they're more idiotic than anyone I've ever heard of.
With that schedule and the way the kids have played, and the way they're clearly going to be playing, it would be height of idiocy.
