Good point to make at this point in the season. It is very fitting that you compare Canes fans to characters from gangster movies! I can only say that because I am a Cane no matter what. As for guys, that's a whole 'nother story.

You can't blame that paltry crowd on fair weather fans. If anything, our fair weather fans would have been AT that game, not cheering for Bama or UF. That just doesn't make sense. Your picks are pretty good with the exception of the UF-UGA game. Just don't see it turning out that way.

My mom died in 1995 so unless she gets the Internet in Heaven it wasn't her.

Ethel Marie Popadak is buried at the same cemetary in Miami (Kendall) as ST#26. I visit them BOTH all the time.

Sometimes I pour out some Irish whiskey at their grave sites to honor and celebrate their lives.

They both told me they like it when I visit. I'm just sayin'...

Six,
that was the point i was trying to make UF's defense isn't going to wait for Tebow to win the game.

The extraordinary loathing of Tebow blinds people to the fact The Gator defenders can play.

Georgia had great offensive players on the field last year against the over rated Gators, what happened?

I say DO IT!

The world is gonna end in 2012 anyway, it's worth beating ther Gators at least one more time before that happens. NBD.

Calvin

six, so far so good on your gator predicition but they won't be undefeated this year, sooner or later the refs won't be able to bail them out. Now that defense they have is legit againdt teams with no offense, but if you got deep threats at both wide receiver spots, that secondary is suspect, we all know janoris jenkins plays strong defense with in 20 yards, after that, he doesn't have the top end speed to stay with the receivers, joe hayden does, but if you want to see a good match-up, let's put our receivers right now against their secondary and jacory with time, he torched that secondary.

tebow with time rarely finds people against solid defenses.

Anyway looking at the defense on that last play, a linebacker should have blitzed, that was one of the simplest plays ran, parker locked in on jacoby ford that whole play, that last play was not about not having depth on defense, or we don't have the players we need, it was just a bad defensive play call, just like the 3 running plays were conservative, so was that last defensive play call, all clemson did was spread us out, we were basically in zone defense, more like an umbrella type defense, instead of bring the safeties up a step or 2, that last play was just to easy, blitz parker like we did hodges or landry jones the game was either going to be tied again or they would have missed the fieldgoal.

Let me add a little something about what I said earlier

"It's about their D, and always has been every year they've won a National Championship" .... under the current head coach

Under Spurrier, he had that timing offense down - just ask Florida State after they got 52 dropped on them in the Sugar Bowl for the Crocs 1st Title

Hurriphin

Also good to see D-Jenks got a spot on the Browns (pfffft... I know) roster.

He was one of only about five guys on that 07' squad who actually wanted to win.

Hurriphin

After watching UF struggle (abiet win) against Miss.St., Ark., an offens(ive)less LSU, and the worst Tenn. team in a decade, I'm gonna set a scenario:

Big rivalry game; Tebow's last home game; Perfect reg. season record possibly on the line; slight chance that it's Bowden's last game vs. the Gates'; Uf's Off. floundering; FSU's Off. shining.

Don't say I didn't warn you........

Six

It doesn't really matter about the Crocs O

It's about their D, and always has been every year they've won a National Championship

Even if Spikes doesn't play, doesn't matter b/c Carlos Dunlap, Jermaine Cunningham and Stamper are holding down the fort

The back 4 of the Crocs are more impressive than the front 7. Jenkins, Haden, Wright and Black - Georgia isn't going to do alot throwing against those guys down the field on one-on-one matchups. Sorry, that's just the straight up truth. AJ Green better hope his man releases him and the safety blows his assignment

The Crocs O doesn't have to do as much b/c the D is so good and will slowly give them good field position to work with, or even score on their own with a pick 6 or blocked punt for TD.

Charlie Strong deserves a hell of a lot more credit than Urban Myth. Am I wrong? Who's unit has out shined the other during their NChampionship years together? Who's unit looks better than the other this year alone?

49-10 last year ... with Stafford and Moreno. They've only won 3 times in the past 18 years. UGA is going to have to sell their souls in order to win this game

Think about this as well

Tebow has a chance to not only break Herschel Walker's record, but add even more to it ... AGAINST WALKER'S ALMA MATER ... motivation? Uh, ya

Daytoncane

let me start off by saying that what this team has been able to accomplish is nothing short of remarkable. even if we end up with 3 losses like most of us predicted, this will still be a tremendous stepping stone in the development of this program.

everybody was making comparisons about this team and the 2000 team. the truth is:

there is no Heisman contender at LT
we don't have two first round picks at WR that are about to leave
there are no All - Americans at MLB and safety
no difference maker in the middle of that d-line.

once we return to that level of talent again then the acension back to the top of college football will be seamless.

solar, It's easy to be #1 in the nation is defense when you play the schedule that the gators have, lsu has no offense thus far no matter who they play, charleston southern, who else they played. It's like right now, people pointing out jacory harris is leading the acc in interceptions, big deal, the man has had to play against something of the toughest defenses statistically and realistically in the nation, g-tech has a 1st team all american back their, v-tech we all know what type defense they play, okalhoma's defense, except for the 25 year old, they were at full strength, than we play ucf and than clemson with all those guys back their in that secondary doing well, no other qb in college football has had to face that many tough defense and for jacory to still be where he's at, and like it was said earlier, how many of jacory's interceptions were tipped balls and halftime/end of game heaves where it is bound to get picked off.

That's not to say the gators don't have a legit offense, but if we played them this year and they played us man like they did last year, their going to get torched if we can hold off that front four. I'd rather live with jacory's high risk/high reward throws than for him to be back their just holding the ball and taking sacks on a regular basis. We all know that jacory wit hnatural progression will cut down on the interceptions if not he'll be trying to put up at least 1 touchdown for every interception.

Thanks, Solar. I'm sure by now you guys realize that my picks are mostly reality with a couple of wishful thinking picks thrown in. Sort of a field of dreams mentality, almost - if I predict it, it will happen. Let's cheer on the dawgs - hopefully those pics of Cryer calling TO all over their locker room have gotten them pretty fired up as well! Also, let's not forget what happened the last time Florida was supposed to "romp" someone. Kiffin's moral victory. [eye roll]

Calvin

Make no mistake about it, the majority of real eams had already figured out hat bullshat offense, it was pecy harvin that made the biggest difference, he's doing his thing in the nfl too, living his dream, big money, pounds of weed, set em free. Even though i didn't want any of them to win(the gators or oklahoma)it was funny as hell once the gators knew they would win how harvin slapped the hell out of oscar cryers azz, cryer just walked away.

Hell, harvin's one run against us was one of the biggest differences in that game, it was 3rd down and about 7, they handed the ball off to harvin, we got him in the backfield, he takes off up the middle and gets the 1st down. He's football quick, he already has 2 kick off returns for touchdowns if i'm not mistaken, he's one of those players that's going to help you win football games, that's for sure.

harvin will help the gators in recruiting, they finally have someone at the pro-level that's actually doing something now, if alex smith holds onto the startign job in san francisco, that'll help another oscar cryer cause.

If the gators have to rely on non-touchdown passing tebow to win games, their offense will definitely stay at a stand still. Now if you give tebow a short field to work with, that's a different story, should be a fun game, i thought caleb king would be doing a little better than what he's doing, alright orson charles, you broke the trophy, now break their record and give them a loss, their coming for you.

Canez1, that had to be funny as hell seeing somebody get they azz whooped for talking shat behind a keyboard and than got found out at a game, them keyboard gangsta's will learn one way or another.

Croc fans (perhaps especially a person posting above who doesn't actually watch the FU games to see what an embarrassment their offense is) are in denial. They think Cryer is holding back the "really good" offense and all this has been a decoy.

Wrong. Your offense sucks, the only reason you haven't lost 2-3 games yet is cheating refs, your star player will go during the second day of the draft and never be heard from again, and your team will never be relevant again without him. We will see all these Gingers at 'Canes fans mid 2010 season -> and Cryer will be calling up Randy for a job doing special teams for the 'Canes. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!

And with that, GO DAWGS!!!!

Tebow has thrown only 130 times all season and has 8 TDs and 4 picks. He has been sacked a whopping 15 times.

He is not the same player he was two seasons ago running the ball. That fact is irrefutable.

Should be a good game but with UF's offense no game is going to be a romp from here on out.

JMO.

JSQ

Florida's wide receivers are suspect at best and they sorely miss Percy Harvin. The SEC has figured out UF's offense and Tebow is finally beaten up so bad he has lost his explosiveness. I admire the fact it took this long, didn't think he would finish last season with the pounding he took.

They are two officiating homerisms from having a loss already.

Georgia can score. This is their Bowl game.

I agree with Mary.

Posted by: pb(CSROH10) | October 29, 2009 at 11:39 AM

Thanks, pb. Your rationale is why I made the pick. I think FU's time is up. My boss, a gator convert, posted that stuff before (David). Now Canespace sees what I have to put up with just to keep a roof over my head. Sigh. [shakes head]

Bailey, a junior, said he hopes to be used at defensive end next season. Switching back and forth hasn't been disruptive for him.

Bailey and Hankerson are, IMO, the two most likely juniors to leave for the draft. Hope they stick around.

Also good to see the depth returning at d line. Jeremy Lewis is getting plays and Shannon says Porter will get about 30 snaps this week (the reason Bailey will strictly be an end against Wake).

Great blog. I have been married to a Karen and a Ginger, believe me Karen is better.

I have been a Phillies fan for over 60 years. Most people don't like Philly fans because we are so passionate. We boo Santa Claus and sometimes our team. But we stick with them through thick or thin, we love our Phillies. They are the only team to lose over 10,000 games. But we still love them win or lose. But, if they don't win, the stands are not always full. This year they sold out 100% of their games. Maybe not next year. This morning we are happy, maybe not tonight.Fans a fickle. What have you done for me lately.

When the U (which I love more than the Phillies) starts to win on a consistent basis, they will sell more seats and the complaining will diminish. That's just what fans do. We all want the U to be the best, we find fault when they are not, but down deep, we are all passionate about the U.We just express ourselves differently, just like we do in Philly, the booing means nothing, it is actually a love song!

3. Miami’s linebackers without Sean Spence. The Canes will have a different look at Wake Forest this week without Spence, who will miss the game with a knee injury. Taking his place will be Ramon Buchanan, who filled in for Spence when he was hurt during the Clemson game. Most of Buchanan’s experience has been on special teams this year. Meanwhile, running back Kevin Harris is expected to return for the Deacs after missing the past five games with a groin injury.

U

 DATcane

When Miami quarterback Jacory Harris was on the field for Monday’s walk-through and Tuesday’s practice, he was a little bit surprised to see his teammates “running around full of speed, laughing and joking around, like ‘this can’t ever happen again.’”

This, being the devastating 40-37 overtime loss to Clemson last Saturday -- a loss that knocked the Hurricanes out of the top 10 in the BCS standings and the thick of the Coastal Division race heading into Saturday’s game at Wake Forest.

“We’ve said that before, but now we’ve dug ourselves too deep in a hole,” Harris said. “We can’t let it go any deeper.”

The good news in Coral Gables is that Miami coach Randy Shannon said nobody is sulking this week.

“We came out Sunday, as a matter of fact, and there was a lot of enthusiasm, a lot of excitement,” Shannon said. “It was a point of, ‘Oh, well, we just lost,’ it was one of those feelings like, ‘You know what? We lost this game. We played terrible. We weren’t where we normally play as Miami, let’s get going. Let’s get back focused. Let’s not hang our heads.’ Clemson did a good job, they made more big plays than us, and we responded Sunday, Tuesday and this morning, we did very well.”

Miami still has the potential and the talent to finish 10-2, which would be an impressive finish in Shannon’s third season. The Canes have to cut down on the penalties and turnovers, though, in order for that to happen.

Harris actually leads the ACC with 10 interceptions right now, and the only team faring worse than Miami in penalties this year is Florida State. The Canes are losing 63.6 yards per game this year because of penalties.

The notion of a 10-win season isn’t their focus right now, though. Looking ahead is what got the Canes into trouble at Virginia Tech. It sounds like they’ve learned lessons from both losses this year.

“We haven’t had enough time to think about scenarios,” Harris said. “Right now, we just want to win the rest of our games. That’s what we’re thinking about right now. ... Keep on moving forward, do all things that your coaches [have] been teaching you and have fun.”

Somehow they’ve found a way to do that this week, too.

Sebastian totally agree with you about the crocs...my gator friends say this every week and then on Monday they are nowhere to be found. The Sports radio in Orlando constantly saying "Well every good team struggles with a game or two". I scream back "yeah like game one, two, three, four, five, six and seven". Man they give that team such a pass. Dan Sileo (not my fav dude) but he at least said he is not even sure if timmy will go in the first 5 rounds now (superman's flaws are showing, ones we all new were there).

Our son-in-law was just laid off by the Seminole tribe of Florida. He was near the top in accounting dept which was taken over by a member of the tribe. He was 2 years from retirement age and got a small severance. Nasty business too many companies follow that practice. I remember Winn-Dixie was famous for doing that.

Great Scorsese wives analogy, Mary.

Although I am only three seasons in to this party, I am a Karen.

can't wait for UM basketball to start up again. we figure to be like Villanova this year; a small lineup that runs a lot and relies on perimeter shooting.

and glad to see basketball back period. i cannot take another year of Laker fans gloating over that team.
