Game Summary: On Saturday night in Orlando the Miami Hurricanes beat the UCF Knights 27-7 in a boring, low scoring scrimmage at some Stadium named after some Cable TV company. Since we strongly prefer beer over TV we will take Landshark Beer any day over Brightouse Networks thank you very much.
Game Highlights: The were no highlights, only one big play by the UM defense and not much else to talk about so we won't bother you with the details. If you are looking for stats or a descriptive game summary we suggest that you go to www.hurricanesports.com for that. If you want to have a good time at a game we suggest you join Canespace at one of our tailgates or get this: at an actual football game! The pictures below will show you why.
As the sun set over Brighthouse Stadium and the cool, no make it
cold Autumn air filtered into Central Florida, Hurricane fans from far
and wide took over the once calm and quiet UCF Campus and were quick to
inform the UCF student body: "We're taking over, we like this place,
we're gonna stay a while, y'all need to clear on out."
Well at
least that is what our group of about 20-30 orange and green wearing
Canes fans led by Canespacer Jamericane (above R) and his friend and former UM DB
(1991-93) Kevin Lewin (above L) told the UCF faithful as we walked right through the heart of
the campus, right through their Student Union, through a maze of
tailgate parties, people, trash and then into the Stadium.
Led
by our campus tour guide AngryCane (seen above in his pimped out ride), who is a UM fan and UCF student, we shamelessly walked
across the entire campus shouting and chanting: "We got some Canes over
here, whoosh, whoosh" and "It's great to be a Miami Hurricane." We Cane, we saw and we proceeded to kick some serious, well you know, as we walked over, around and sometimes through the gauntlet of black and gold clad UCF fans on our way to The House (NOT to be confused with The Shark).
If you haven't been to UCF the campus is quite nice, quite large and occupied by some quite lovely looking student bodies. According to recent rumors spread by the university itself, UCF has grown into the third largest school in the Country with 53,000 students. On our campus tour we saw what seemed to be about 30,000 of those students some puking, some passed out and some who were just having a good time.
Then we found some more Canes fans along the way and then this happened:
But enough about them, let's talk about us. And by "us" I mean the Canespace tailgate party. Where do we start? How about with cupcakes? OK, let's just say that when UM faces an easy opponent like FAMU and UCF Canespace breaks out the "cupcakes" for the games. Not to be outdone by the now infamous JSQ, Canechic baked up some really nice ones herself, if I do say say myself.
We visited with Canespacer Canezilla (seen below R), his always lovely wife (at L; she wears killer shoes, trust me on this), her BFF (at C) and their group of tailgating friends just one row over from the Canespace tailgate. We found them consuming some rum soaked watermelon that they had prepared overnight. We tried a piece (yummy) and took a pic and continued to move on through the raucous crowd of Canes fans.
These guys (below) we found in the parking lot near our tailgate wearing our favorite numbers. I tried to give them a Canespace card and tell them about our site. They told me: "Don't be stupid, we already know about Canespace; here have a beer and a cheesburger." It was deal I couldn't refuse!
That is when the UM fans started to get bent, and the rules got broken. UCF strictly prohibits the use of a "beer funnel" on campus. So these guys broke out the "octopus" with eight, count them, eight tubes:
Well as you know it's all fun and games until somebody get's hurt, but that never stopped us before. So that's when AngryCane got involved (below, lower L) and showed them how Canespacers party and get it done. For the record, no animals were injured in the filming of this event, at least none that we are aware of, but our memory is a little blurred as you can imagine!
We thought we were pretty hard core until we walked around the RV lot and found this Mexican dude who really hard core and had gone "all in" on customizing his ride. He was a master at grillin' and chillin' and just insisted we try one of his tortillas with strip steak and homemade pico de gallo.
Angry ate two tortillas, tried to speak some Spanish (orale chamaco) while we took pictures of his pimped out ride, inside and out. Mi hermano spent $6,000 on the vehicle wrap alone to pimp it and that doesn't even count the custom interior. And U thought U were hard core? Child please!
Fran and his lovely wife Jean (seen below) are two die hards who showed up in their Canespace gear just to tailgate. They brought some mean BBQ chicken and a really comfy tailgating chair to spend some time soaking up the sun and soaking in the experience. Jean teased her husband when she told us: "I don't know what's gotten into him, he thinks he's a teenager all over again!"
So then as we were leaving the the tailgate, I mean the game, and walking out of the stands we found the REAL Legion Of Doom who were dressed rather appropriately for the visit to The House if we do say so ourselves. I promised I'd make them famous, so here's part of their 15 minutes:

Your post makes me feel better, Trout. They always do. I was listening to the Joe Rose too this morning. Coupled with the guilt over not being able to go to the game, I was getting nervous.

well Jsq i try and give it to ya the best way i can. Like Calvin i make sense of stuff and is always defending this team. Last night game was a good game not great but hey we'll take that W. Besides we played at someone elses place and sent their blackouts back in the dark by the 4th . Whoever thought of that plan should go SLAP themselves. No way they thought that the U was going to lay down and be smacked around by UCF... AGAIN GO SLAP YOURSELF WAKE UP AND GET BACK TO REALITY.
OH yeah Calvin when aldarius is in the game we tend to blow people away even more. He really have crazy glue on his hands..lol Anyways i like how we play a road game and then go back home. Home games are always hype and so far we are UNDEFEATED THERE THIS YEAR...I DON'T THINK no one will ever BREAK that 58 home game winning streak. NO WONDER THE HATE AND JEALOUSY RUNS DEEP FOR MIAMI......

This was posted on the last blogg....By the way 86 great pics...and who is that dime in the orange top with the beer can in hand.. She can make a game enjoyable....LOL
Anyways we were deep in Orlando last night... Orange and green was spotted all over the place.

canechic - ya, that was me
I called 86 a few times during the game and didn't get a connection for the first few tries .. then it did connect & I left a message
I was on the Cane sidelines, talking with Yatil Green for a little bit
I got to University & stopped at the Firehouse Subs right before the campus entrance around 5:45pm, went in to the bathroom, got back in the car & waited foorreevveerr through the worst traffic I've ever been in for any college game, went & parked in parking garage D

Posted by: Lurker | October 18, 2009 at 12:19 PM
canechic - I don't ever want to go to another UCF game unless it's in a helicopter
No idea why they'd put media in a parking garage. The parking garage wasn't the bad part b/c after the press conferences and everything else is finally done, most people have already been through the hell that you're glad you didn't have to go through - sitting in traffic in the parking garage
But just to get to the field once I got to University Ave. took longer than it did for the drive over to Orlando. Ridiculous. Worst stadium planning for traffic flow, ever.

Nice work there dude. Only question I have is this: Did you wear your cute little "protective vest"? LOL
Posted by: 86Cane | October 18, 2009 at 12:35 PM
86 - obviously I didn't wear my crossing guard vest, b/c if I did then ...
#1 - Laron Byrd would've been so blinded by it, that he wouldn't have made that catch and run into me
#2 - You would've noticed it and said, "Hey, there's Six in his hall monitor vest", maybe I should check my cell phone that's he's been calling during the game, ha

Shoulda been is right. I did decide to go at last minute but no tix to be found anywhere and couldn't risk just showing up and paying god knows what. Where do you guys tailgate at the shark. I'll try to stop by and say hello next week - either with wifey or one of my daugthers.
Posted by: Lurker | October 18, 2009 at 12:40 PM
UCF & Conference USA actually do it right, they give you an arm band to wear instead of that idiotic vest
Too bad their food in the media room reminded me of the 2nd Grade lunches we'd get on field trips from the school

Six...I kept seeing a 386 number pop up on my phone but I couldn't figure out who it was? Had I known it was U I would NOT have answered anyway. J/K and LOL
People have to understand that during games I get around 20 calls and 50 text messages. No way can I keep up and watch the game. And when things are not going well, I am in NO mood to talk anyway.
We should have talked earlier in the day then I would have known to look for U on the field. I thought U were only going to be on the field for USF I forgot about UCF too. My bad.

This was written on Friday...check out the University of VA writer...no Harris
Front-runner for ACC POY?
October 16, 2009 9:30 AM
Posted by ESPN.com's Heather Dinich
This was an unofficial Mid-Season Player of the Year poll done by e-mail Thursday. Kyle Tucker of the Virginia Pilot (he covers Virginia Tech), sent out an e-mail to several ACC writers on Thursday asking us for our top three choices for the ACC's Player of the Year based on what everyone has done to date.
Virginia Tech running back Ryan Williams is leading the race.
We had 14 total voters, representing nine of the ACC's teams, plus one leaguewide rep (that's me). My vote looked like this: 1. Ryan Williams. 2. Jacory Harris. 3. Riley Skinner.
Points were assigned in reverse order (first-place is 3 points, third-place is 1 point).
Please keep in mind this is unofficial, and not every ACC team was represented, but this is how it shook out yesterday:
1. RB Ryan Williams, Virginia Tech 35 points, 9 first-place votes
2. QB Jacory Harris, Miami 25 points, 3 first-place votes
3. QB Riley Skinner, Wake Forest 14 points, 2 first-place votes
4. QB Christian Ponder, Florida State 4 points
4. QB Josh Nesbitt, Georgia Tech 4 points
5. QB Thaddeus Lewis, Duke 2 points
Here's who voted, what team they cover, and how they voted:
Andrew Carter, Orlando Sentinel (FSU) 1. Williams 2. Ponder 3. Harris
Steve Conroy, Boston Herald (BC) 1. Williams 2. Skinner 3. Harris
Susan Degnan, Miami Herald (UM) 1. Williams 2. Harris 3. Skinner
Heather Dinich, ESPN (ACC) 1. Williams 2. Harris 3. Skinner
Doug Doughty, Roanoke Times (UVA) 1. Williams 2. Lewis 4. Nesbitt
Eric Prisbell, Washington Post (MD) 1. Skinner 2. Williams 3. Harris
Shandel Richardson, Sun-Sentinel (UM) 1. Williams 2. Harris 3. Ponder
Doug Roberson, AJC (GT) 1. Harris 2. Nesbitt 3. Williams
Darryl Slater, Times-Dispatch (VT) 1. Williams 2. Skinner 3. Harris
Patrick Stevens, Washington Times (MD) 1. Skinner 2. Harris 3. Williams
Kyle Tucker, Virginian-Pilot (VT) 1. Williams 2. Harris 3. Skinner
Ken Tysiac, Charlotte Observer (NCST) 1. Harris 2. Williams 3. Nesbitt
Larry Williams, Tigerillustrated.com (CU) 1. Williams 2. Harris 3. Skinner
Norm Wood, Daily Press (VT/UVA) 1. Harris 2. Williams 3. Ponder

Texas, I was with you on that cheering for OU piece. lol
Have I missed something or did Bryan Williams have some 200+ yard games somewhere? He played well against us, aight against Bama, ??? against Duke, and he couldn't have done much against Nebraska.
I'm not knocking his talent but has he ever taken over a game and really balled??
Or are they all just up Beamer's azz?

86 - it's cool, you can't beat those photos though with my damn cell phone camera, ha, you better save those or something
I did more shooting with that than I did with the camera from work
I actually like that stadium, it's loud when it needs to be - real loud - the sideline to stands ratio is nice & not a mile away like in some stadiums
Just hate the location & traffic flow to and from it

Seriously. Spiller has taken over more games and made for big plays. But his team is playing well below their potential.
To me, there's no comparison between Spiller and any other RB in the league, really the country.

The life of a blogger:
I leave for the game at 11 AM. Get to The Steak and Shake ON TIME at 12:15 PM. Canechic goes "no show" on me and Fran, his wife Jean and I try to find our way to the stadium around 1:15 PM.
We drive the ENTIRE Campus trying to find a place to park. Lost and stupid we luck into some lot in the RED ZONE. Funny, all the Canespacers are also there.
Fran, RaizeCane, Canezilla, Canechic, Angry, Jamericane all show up and we get organized. We drink some appletini punch (sorry Esteban!) and some spiked lemonade made by Canechic that makes Keoki's Mystery Punch taste like Kool Aid. One punch is too sweet, the other too sour, but mixed together and: OH MY GOD!
Last night I got home around 12:30 AM. By the time I shower and get a snack and beverage it's 1:30-2 AM.
I get up this am at 9 AM, no shower, no breakfast, and immediately I start dowloading the photos from the event.
Then I start writing the blog, get a working title and tell Mrs. 86, who LOVES to talk, that I need 3 hours of silence. She's not hapopy but that is the life of the wife of a blogger.
Then I start editing and inserting the photos into the text. It's noon before U know it and ON THE DOT when it's ready to go.
I post the blog article at 12 PM sharp, edit a few times for typos and now it's 1 PM. Time to hit the showers...
