Jon Beason is a goodman.. If Sean Spence has the same body type as Beas, but not as strong or good as yet.. J Beas actually replaced(out did me) at LB after i graduated HS...

Rumor is LSU is looking at Tommie Robinson to possibly fill their RB coach vacancy.

I've played both and there's every bit as much strategy in rugby as in football. If not more.

You think Brian O'Driscoll skipping himself, or Dan Carter hitting kicks from 50+ meters away on the run don't give room for individual improvement and growth?

There's a reason Dhani Jones tried to play rugby.. and failed.

The only reason football was created was because Teddy Roosevelt thought rugby was too dangerous. Instead, he created a stop and go sport with more danger, and fatter kids.

Rugby may be the more "primitive" sport in terms of time, but its much more involved in terms of character and class. If there's anything I wish football had, it would be that.

Darnell Jenkins was out there catching a TD. I didn't know he actually gets PT.

And the uniforms were plain but I liked them. All white is all good with me.

Sean Spence is a Beast!!!

Here's to hoping that the Saints run up the score on the Pats just like they (pats) tried to do every game in 2007... No class

Speaking of class did everybody see the end of the USC vs. UCLA game??

Rick Neuhiesal calling a pointless TO with under a min. left down 2 TDs?? I'm not a huge Pete Carroll fan but UCLA deserved it... USC was trying to do the classy thing and take 3 kneeldowns to end the game but Rick wanted to prolong the game. Can't blame USC for scoring a TD then. If UCLA wants to play out the whole game then don't get pissed that USC tried to score after you (UCLA) stopped them from kneeling.

Another reason I like Randy Shannon, he avoids all possible talk of running up the score on anyone..even when given the chance.

Posted by: DrewZ2 | November 30, 2009 at 10:41 PM

Drew, i wish Randy would run the score up a lil bit every now and then, i know he's worried about the perception of others, but look where it brought Urban Cryer and Cheat Carroll???

2 national titles each and top 10 finishes almost every year.

You don't need to be an obvious jerk like those 2, but i wish he'll let his team have a statement game every once in a while.

Esteban

And I thought we should have blown out USF. Rutgers got them 31-0 just a couple weeks back. They got hyped for beating FSU but have been spanked over and over since. Physical teams ran over them each time.

Meyer and Carroll win national titles by going undefeated or only losing one game but winning the high profile ones. And because of sustained success, since preseason rankings loom large. Even if Miami was 13-0, we'd still be on the outside looking in if Texas beats Nebraska. See Auburn, 2004.

I'm not convinced blowouts have anything to do with anything, if the question is winning by 21 or 28. On the other hand, Randy would be wise to learn that just winning isn't enough sometimes. In the OU game we could have scored in the end to win by 8. I read articles back in October talking about how OU only lost by 1, when really the margin was way different even if the scoreboard didn't say so. I was fine with the USF tactic though.

Sean Spence is a Beast!!!

The truth of the matter is, style points matters!

Going undefeated simply isn't enough anymore.

We can all thank the media for that!

BCS is a flawed system, Pre-season rankings will only benefit those teams that had won the previous season.

I say everybody shouldn't be ranked every start of the year, no pre-season rankings, in the end, if there are two many undefeated teams, then just have a bracket playoffs like college basketball, it's a longshot and probably would never happen, but it would be the best system!

Sean Spence is a Beast!!!

Florida played 8 homes games, 4 no-contest non-conference teams, and only 1 team in the top 10 so far, and yet they are the no.1 team in the nation according to most because of pre-season poll and style points!

Someone said that baseball players aren't athletes?

Ha. Ah man, that's pretty funny stuff. Save the whole thing about Babe Ruth being a fatass that could hit homers while still on a bender from the night before and his form of training was how many cigars he could lift to his mouth .... also save when John Kruk said that "baseball players aren't athletes, look at me" - that's Kruky being Kruk

Not every ball player is like that.

Even football has your Tony Siragusas, Sam Adams, Gilbert Browns, William Fridge Perrys, etc.

Baseball isn't an all out collision sport on every single play like football, so just b/c they're not jacked up like football players - don't get it twisted that they're not athletes. The amount of cardio baseball players have to endure, along with the amount of core work, is basically what makes up a ball player. That and strong wrists/forearms/triceps/shoulders/back. Whole different type of training. Lots of plyometric work like football and basketball ... a hell of a lot more hand-eye coordination than you can imagine

Of course baseball players aren't athletes like boxers, wrestlers, tri-athletes or MMA fighters (I'm talking UFC top of the line, not some rinky dink bullcrap MMA that you see on Spike TV from some high school gym) .... but they're not exactly bowlers or billiards players

I found this interesting as well though it's still hard to say whether Bowden's retirement will help, hurt, or have no effect on FSU's recruiting class this year. Moreover, De'Joshua Johnson is Greg Dent's cousin, and it's been reported that the two want to play together.

IMO, unless he's willing to wait around awhile or perhaps switch to CB, I don't see this kid coming to the U since he's undersized and we have plenty of his type to go around (Collier, Benjamin, Davon Johnson, Kendall Thompkins). It would be nice though, especially if we can't pull in Michaelee Harris, Ivan McCartney or Willis Wright (we'll probably land 1-2 of these three).

Since we're talking recruiting, I simply can't wait until 1) our bowl game announcement, 2) ESPN's "THE U" documentary, and 3) WINNING our bowl game. These three things will undeniably impact our recruiting in a positive way.

Sure the vid talks about our "thugged out" days and ends by talking about the decline in the 90s. But those "thugged out" days sell, especially to young people; and the decline in the 90s might remind viewers about our recent decline and give recruits that urge to be a part of the rebuilding project (kinda like the Northwestern boys in '08).

It does sell to youngins' doesn't it? sad but true, though whatever helps our cause i'm all for it!

Plus, that swag thug factor did change the landscape in college football, everybody just wanna be like the old dominating thug U!

Even Cheat Carroll admit to that he wanna replicate the old U Swag! i read it somewhere in an article, if only i could get a hold of it, i'll re-post it here.

I thought the same thing but it turns out that it was Darnell DINKINS who scored a TD for the Saints today and not our beloved Darnell JENKINS.

DINKINS:

JENKINS:

What's not to like about Stanford, over-achieving team that really stuck it to USC with that 2 point conversion, i love it! a taste of their own medicine, that lying 2 faced cheating Carroll! ha!

Also, that Gerhart kid is too good not to like!

The old U swag is appealing!

The game all the critiques point to is one of my favorites: 1991 Cotton Bowl, The U vs. Texas, we beat the crap out of them 46-3.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOSXOgytmug

And the dagger everyone talks about is Randall Hill running through the tunnel and coming back doing his gun-slinger impersonation. Cracks me up every time!

AND THE FATIGUES!!! Who can forget that and who doesn't get AMPED by that (besides our opponents)?

I honestly don't know what the big deal was, though I'm not even 30 yet and I may be looking at these events with 21st century eyes.

Either way, for better or worse, the recruits are going to get HYPED when they see that documentary!

GO CANES!!!

BTW, who do you guys think will be the new head coach at ND?

My money is on Butch Davis.

He's probably kicked himself in the a$$ a million times for leaving a big time program like Miami. And although UNC has gotten better under his watch, he must know deep inside that UNC will NEVER bring in the talent to win a national championship. Furthermore, he's a defensive minded coach and that's what ND needs. And, probably more important than anything else, he's rebuilt a program in the past.

Some experts are predicting the Cincinnati guy, but he's not defensive-minded. The TCU guy? He's my 2nd choice but he has a good gig going right now and ND might NOT necessarily be an upgrade. The Northwestern guy? He hasn't done much.

Butch is the guy that makes the most sense for ND (Butchie can recruit nationally, coach defense, rebuild storied programs) and ND has the job that makes the most sense for Butch (access to WAY better talent than UNC, a bigger paycheck).

Back to studying for me. GO CANES!

Acceptable reasons for leaving...
.Wife has you committed to the looney farm for insane hours, talking Canes on the Space.
.Wife pulls out... all the stops and flashes the NO SEX card!
.Wife goes wacko and breaks computer.
.You were thrown in jail for streaking naked only wearing a Canespace shirt at a all male Canes event... Seen saying, "You thought they would understand, as they dragged you off!"
.You went crazy after the VT game and last seen in Himalayans chasing furry animals... While yelling something about playing in the friggin cold rain???
.U didn't listen to Cat5 and drink more Tequila to settle the nerves!

Cat - Soup said he was "busy". My guess is that he got a new job...

Cat 5 Cane

Notre Dame...

I Don't see Butch leaving any time soon. He's got a great gig at NC and one of the highest paid coaches in the BCS and don't underestimate his power of recruiting the top tier in the future. NC has become a very powerful draw in all sports... and are now challenging even the SEC in Florida, Ga, Alabama, LSU and Tenn. Given their ranking in Baseball and Basketball and now the Football program recent success... look for them to get stronger!

But money always has a way of drawing away good coaching... so look for NC to anti up the pot, just to keep thing status quo.

But you're right,... ND would be one hell of a jump into the lime light!

canesteeler

One thing I will say about UNC is their facilities are first class for all sports. Butch has a nice gig at UNC and Chapel Hill is a great place to live but football will always be the step brother to basketball. I would be shocked if Butch did not inquire about the ND job.

Randy interview this am

RandyCane

JUst read in the Jacksonville paper that the GatorBowl wants a WVU vs. Florida State matchup. Predicated on Bowden retiring and WVU beating Rutgers. Wants Bobby's last game to be the Gator Bowl. Can you believe it a 6-6 limp wristed FSU on New Years Day? What a bunch of Bull, sorry USF, not speaking of your losing, sorry, whining ...

RandyCane

The rumor of TRob being courted by LSWHO? came from another non mentionable website, need I say more?

He does have ties with Less Smiles(since playing Ole Miss).

RandyCane

I guess everybody went to work! I'm used to talking to myself, so here goes, The Gator Bowl would be a joke of a game if 6-6 FSU goes to the game just because BB retires. I got to get out of Jacksonville, too many Gators and Noles. Around here they are the only teams tht exist.

Still looking for a job and living on unemployment. Yeah they take 70.00 each week out of the check so the fat cats on both sides of the isle can jet off to the Carribean now that Hurricane season is over!

Not talking about our Canes though. Hope we end up in Champs Bowl playing Big 10 team. Have been reading that they would like a UM/Penn State game. That would be a winner!

RandyCane

Yeah, Randycane I agree with you!

Tennessee has a coach named Wilson that's also in the hunt for LSU running back position (sounds like something Cajun kinky). He looks like he might be a better fit: New Orleans native, Former LSU coach etc.

Finishing up the best year in the company's 60 year history this year. Just came out with new Santoku-style stuff, and the company is still giving out scholarships (which is what I'm working for)

Old Skool

I wouldn't worry too much about Tommy. the Baton Rouge paper doesn't even list him as a candidate. Besides the Tennessee coach Wilson
the paper listed the following candidates to replace Porter: Notre Dame running backs coach Tony Alford, Eastern Michigan running backs coach Tyrone Wheatley, Oklahoma State running backs coach Robert Gillespie and Houston running backs coach Clarence McKinney.

RandyCane

Robinson has been doing a great job, I think we keep him. ESPN Cotton Bowl Ok.St. vs Ole MIss.
