Traditions at the University of Miami and here at Canespace are an important part of recognizing those who have come before us and have left a lasting impression and impact on us through their thoughts, efforts and actions.
Recently, I posted a blog about the University of Miami Ring of Honor event that I attended that was held at the Four Seasons Hotel on Friday October 23, 2009.
At this event, three good men were honored for their contributions to the UM football team: Eddie Dunn, Bennie Blades and Steve Walsh.
Former inductees Ted Hendricks (seen here), George Mira Jr., Bernie Kosar, Cortez Kennedy and Otis Anderson were also on hand to welcome the newest inductees into this prestigious group.
Well at Canespace we also have our own illustrious group of bloggers who have been voted into the Canespace Ring of Honor (CSROH) for their commitment, dedication, support and contributions of our work here on the blog.
Since Canespace started in June of 2007 we have had two classes inducted into the CSROH. The first class was selected in June of 2008 and the second one in June 2009. Each class consists of five bloggers who are nominated by and voted into the CSROH by their peers.
The current Canespace Ring of Honor members are:
Class of 2008: The Truth, CanesgirlNC (seen here in her famous green dress at the awards ceremony), SolarCane, Cavaleer (aka Captain Optimist) and Manny Navarro (from the Miami Herald).
Class of 2009: bg1906, Canechic, Canez1, Calvin and Six.
The criteria for being nominated into the CSROH are as follows:
- Length of service (time on the blog)
- Consistent and regular posting of comments on the blog
- Submitting articles for publication on the blog
- Submitting exclusive features (e.g. recruiting, gaming, etc.)
- Attending and covering UM away games or special events for the blog (articles and photos)
- Contributing content such as links and other information
- Attending Canespace events (football tailgates, pre-game parties at the Titanic, etc.)
The nomination and selection process is as follows:
- Begins in May of each year and is open to all bloggers.
- The nominations are submitted on the blog or via email to the Canespace Board of Directors (CSBOD).
- The CSBOD consists of all previously selected CSROH members (10).
- These BOD members narrow down the nominees to 7-10 worthy candidates.
- These candidates are then voted on by the bloggers in a poll posted on the blog and the selection of the top five vote getters concludes the process.
The rewards for selection are:
- Two free tickets to any UM home football, basketball or baseball game.
- Two free Canespace T-shirts and other Canespace swag gear.
- A $20 gift certificate from AllCanes.
- The respect and admiration of all of your fellow bloggers!
So if you want to get nominated and selected you better get busy! So you can see how the process works, here are the previous year's articles covering the nomination and selection process:

Isnt what Brandon Spikes did to Washaun Ealey much worse then what LeGarrette Blount did to that kid from Boise State?
How the heck can they justify only giving him a 1/2 game suspension
If thats all they are going to do to him then why the heck even bother
A sucker punch is bad and I know that but dang Spikes tried to dig that guys socket out
Classless Classless Classless

I've said it before, and I'll say it again:
If not for Canespace, I'd still be leery of talking to people online. You guys don't know how foreign this stuff used to be for me. I don't know if I spend enough time on this thing to be considered a computer geek yet, but it is really dope that SOUP has been able to connect people from all over the globe, for the greatest common cause in all of college athletics.......The U.
I nominate 86Cane for the G.D.H.O.F.

Canez1,
We used to have these tater-totish hashbrown looking disks at lunch.
We would fling them around the cafetria like ninja throwing stars.
It was like an early version of paintball.
You would stroll into class with a big oily spud stain splatteed across the back of your two sizes too small Crane Cams nylon jacket.

CANEZ1,
Honest to goodness I wanted to, but some idiot good friend I grew up with decided to invite me to a a baby shower/Cotto-Pacquiao fight party, and he drove all way to VA for my kid's birth, so I couldn't turn him down.
I know, I know. Yall said no more excuses.......

Don't yall think I already feel like sh!t enough, considering I'm the only person in this place that has NEVER seen the Canes live?
Stupid, phaggot, job wouldn't give me off the weekend UM went up & played Temple, in 05', right in my backyard!!! (Philly)
Posted by: Hurriphin | November 02, 2009 at 07:39 PM
what Spikes did was bad, but not worse than what Blount did. trying to gouge out another player's eye is something that happens all the time at the bottom of a pile. trust me, i know because i've done it before and that's not all that goes on down there.
what Blount did was something that you almost never see in a game: a player that almost incites a riot. Blount was way out of control and hade to be restrained multiple times by teammates, coaches, and law enforcement.
with that said, what did Florida did was really pointless. if you're gonna suspend someone, suspend them for the entire game like everybody else does or don't do it at all.

I think alot of people are in the same boat that don't live close.
it aint cheap. Costs me about 1500 for an away game all in. Two or three a year and that shyt adds up.
I just bought a new house to so I gotta keep an eye out on the $$$$
too bad you can't make it. Gonna b a good time.
GO CANEZ!!!!!

Jacory won ACC player of the week and he leads the ACC in passing efficiency, even though he has been sacked 23 times. Tavaris Johnson will see his minutes increase (and the offenses ypg and ppg will increase also) if TJ continues to pick up that blitz like he did against wake.
I think Shannon learned a little more about his players and his team from the trip to Wake, and you will see a better utilization of the players who are not injured. I like playing the nickle more if you don't have LBs who can play yet - Put the best players on the field, regardless of position.
4 more to go. Virg., UNC and Duke will all be tough ACC games, but the Canes will be favored in each and if the Canes play their game, limit turnovers and penalties and play solid D, the Canes should win easily. USF will be another tough one against a very athletic team stacked with Fla. recruits, but the Canes should win.
If the Canes win these four games, history says that that a 10-2 ACC team that played a quality schedule will be in the top 10 and headed to a great bowl game.
Posted by: WIndy | November 02, 2009 at 07:58 PM
You make some good points there Daytoncane
I myself have taken a few shots in those piles as well as received a few of them
But I have never seen someone do anything like that though
In my day of playing that wouldnt of been tolerated, it would of led into a brawl right there on the field and if members of our team didnt jump in then they would pay as well
Youre right it wasnt worse but it needed to be handled better

You say sophomore slump, I say too much school work. Cut a deal with the school to give me creative writing credit for Canespace, or some scholarship money for helping publicize the school, and I will take some of solar's blogroids and be off

They've got to keep the ratio up. Trying to make it look non-gender biased. CGNC and canechic are already in (one each year, hmmm), so they need SOMEbody else who runs tailgates and/or writes blogs...

Ginn was definitely doing his best Hester impression with that one.
TOUCHDOWN NEW ORLEANS!
I'm a bit of a Saints fan because of my lust - er, love - for Jeremy Shockey. Vilma is awesome too.

The posts of the moment are a hair different than from the weekend. All weekend everyone was killing each other, and now it's one big happy mutual admiration society. Gotta love this place. Thanks again, 86, for setting it up. It's like lots of brothers and sisters killing each other and loving each other on any given minute of the day!
Back to recruiting:
Looks like Dent was hoping for the offer from FSU, per Rivals, which is no surprise given Hester being his coach. However, he only got the offer a day after giving UM the verbal. Still, I'm not 100% convinced that he won't find a way to end up a Nole, or go somewhere else if he is offered as a WR rather than a DB. I hope he sticks, as he's a good ball player with good instincts.
Also, Tavadis Glenn won't be coming in January. Sounds like he's having trouble getting the old SAT/ACT score up to snuff. Hopefully this won't keep him from making it in August.
