From www.hurricanesports.com:

TUSCON, Ariz. - Fresh off its NCAA record 37th consecutive NCAA tournament appearance in 2009, the University of Miami baseball team has garnered a No. 12 ranking in College Baseball Newspaper's preseason poll for the 2010 season, as announced Monday.

Head coach Jim Morris, who recently signed a contract extension through 2015, will lead the Hurricanes in what will be his 17th season at the helm in 2010. The `Canes will return 17 letterwinners from last year's 38-22 team, including 2009 All-ACC performers Chris Hernandez, Yasmani Grandal and Scott Lawson. In addition, two-time All-ACC performer Eric Erickson returns after missing the 2009 season rehabilitating from an injury.

Miami is one of six ACC teams ranked in the newspaper's Top 20, with Virginia coming in at No. 3, Georgia Tech at No. 6, Florida State at No. 7, North Carolina at No. 13 and Clemson at No. 16. Texas garnered the top spot in the preseason poll this year, followed by LSU, UVa, Cal State Fullerton and Arizona State in the Top 5.

The No. 12 ranking is the highest for the Hurricanes in the Collegiate Baseball poll since garnering a No. 6 ranking going into the 2007 season. Last year, the `Canes entered the 2009 season ranked No. 18.

It's a little frustrating to know that if Coop was just one step faster his whole career, he'd likely be challenging for the all-time UM touchdown crown, this upcoming season.

SOUP - I enjoyed writing this one as much as any I have done. I started going a complete opposite direction with this article but somehow the information I had compiled and the way it read out didn't jive to me.

So I started moving things, and then settled on breaking it down into a warning notice by rules for Badger season.

What happened with McGriff talking to Billy Rolle is exactly what a lot of us said was going to happen. In particular, when I said that Rolle came out and said that in the Herald, then we didn't know if Shannon sent someone over there or he himself talked to Rolle - but I along with others were pretty damn sure well he did. That's why a lot of us, the majority of us, weren't sweating it for one second.

Boss Man & Company do what they do, and they do it well - the classes that they've pulled in speak volumes to that effect, so none of us should have any kind of concern .. period

As for Ace Sanders - the kid is good, athletic
- 913 yards rec. 9 TDs through 13 games
- Dropped 176 yards rec. 2 TDs on Venice
- Dropped 93 yards rec. 1 TD on Aquinas

FROM WWW.HURRICANESPORTS.COM:

TUSCON, Ariz. - University of Miami junior Yasmani Grandal has been named a Louisville Slugger First Team All-America preseason selection for the 2010 season, as announced Monday by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.

Grandal emerged last season as one of the top power hitters in the Atlantic Coast Conference, leading the Hurricanes and all ACC catchers with 16 home runs. The Miami native led the `Canes with a 1.081 OPS in 2009 en route to earning All-ACC second team honors. He finished his sophomore season ranking second on the team in slugging percentage (.599) and total bases (118), while collecting 45 RBI and 48 runs scored in 59 games.

In his two seasons in Coral Gables, Grandal has 23 home runs, 73 RBI and a .978 fielding percentage in 97 career games. After hitting .234 as a freshman in 2008, he improved his average by 65 points last year to .299. Over the summer, Grandal was a key member of Team USA during its championship run at the 2009 World Baseball Challenge.

Four ACC players were selected to the first team, including 2009 ACC Pitcher of the Year Deck McGuire of Georgia Tech, Virginia outfielder Jarrett Parker and Florida State outfielder Tyler Holt in addition to Grandal.

Grandal's selection marks the second straight year a Hurricane was named to the Louisville Slugger preseason first team after left-hander Chris Hernandez earned first team honors a year ago.

Manny reports Ivan McCartney has WVU as his most "probable." (His QB buddy goes there.)

SOUP

With one more victory, Coach Haith will become the fourth Hurricane basketball coach to amass 100 wins.

Miami, who has won 11 of its first 12 games six times in program history, has won 18-straight non-conference regular-season games and owns a 3-0 mark versus North Carolina A&T, including a 95-64 victory in the last meeting between the teams on Dec. 23, 2007.

FROM DOWNTOWN

The Hurricanes have had strong production from the perimeter this season -- averaging 8.4 made three-pointers per game (tops in the ACC and 21st in the nation) at a 39.3 percent clip and have three players ranked among the ACC's top 10 in three-pointers per game -- Malcolm Grant, James Dews and Adrian Thomas - and two among the ACC's leaders in three-point field goal percentage.

Dews, who is second in the ACC hitting 49 percent of his treys, ranks eighth in school history and fourth among active ACC players with 143 career threes. He went 2-for-3 from long range in Saturday's win over Florida Atlantic en route to 15 points. Dews hit a career-high six three-pointers in Miami's win over South Carolina State tying for the most hit by an ACC player in a game this season.

In his first season with the Hurricanes, Grant ranks sixth in the league averaging 2.3 three-pointers per game at a 47.4 percent clip. He has hit a three-pointer in all 12 games this season -- the fourth-longest active streak in the conference.

The Hurricanes have hit six-or-more three-pointers in 10 of 12 games this season -- including a school-record tying 15 versus South Carolina State.

Thomas -- who hit a career-high tying four treys in the season-opening win over North Carolina Central -- has made at least one three-pointer in 28 of his last 31 games, including 10 games with three-plus treys.

DOUBLE DWAYNE

Dwayne Collins registered his second-straight double-double with 17 points and a game-high 14 rebounds in Saturday's win over FAU. It was his fourth double-double of the season and the 18th of his career, which ranks fourth most among active ACC players and is sixth in Miami history.

ACC TIP OFF

The ACC Basketball Tip-Off Show, Raycom's one-hour television special previewing the 2010 ACC men's conference basketball season, has begun airing on many stations throughout the ACC footprint. In South Florida, the special will be broadcast on Sun Sports at the following times: Tues., Dec. 22 at 1 p.m.; Sun., Dec. 27 at 11 p.m.; Mon., Dec. 28 at noon; Wed., Dec. 30 at 10 p.m. and Sat., Jan. 2 at 12:30 p.m. CBS will air the special on Fri., Jan. 1 at noon.

I guess a lot of people are busy tonight.. I debut another CSM article and it seems to have scared away the crowds that were posting yesterday..

SIX - I know that is what I was trying to say. I was actually agreeing with that sentiment. That was what was upsetting me is that I wasn't even disagreeing with him. I was trying to explain that, and that in turn was getting me frustrating.

CaneSawMassacre

Thanks Rashad.

Hey buddy you are going to the game right?

What time and where you headed first?

bg1906

Big tizzy over on ITU msg boards. They are being critisized for saying Todd Chandler was a commitment and for saying he has an offer then later saying he never did. Well which is it? They are trying to fight back but I think they should just own up and say they made a mistake.

My personal opinion...

Todd DID have a commitable offer and WAS wanted by MIAMI. However, some ISSUES came up and Todd was less then truthful about SOME things. He was then given a set of CRITERIA that he needed to meet in order to have his offer remain in good standing. He didn't do as asked and at that time UM stopped actively recruiting him. I DO believe however it will all get rectified and that Chandler still will make it into this class, but there needs to an effort on his part to do as asked of him.

If you guys notice, USF, FIU, and Colorado State became the main players for him down the stretch, WHY? Why have the BCS schools backed off??? Something is there and it honestly is none of our business what it is. BUT, I don't think its beyond fixing IF both parties want it fixe, but the key word is IF.

That is my opinion.

CaneSawMassacre

BG that is huge...

They should be getting chastized, Because how could they say that he had an offer but that Miami did not offer.

That would have meant they did not do their proper research at the beginning....

BG can you post some little tidbits of Rudy getting smashed by some CANES fans.. That would be some funny stuff to read.

IF NOT - I understand. I know only certain stuff can be copied and pasted here.

CSM.

Its not Rudy. They are going at Chris.

Also they posted an article stating that Todd said he'd talked to McGriff and everything was all good. Just a bunch of irresponsible reporting and they aren't owning up to it. I'll paste what I said to him here since those are my words. But before I do, I'll say this. Truth is right. These sites are fun. They feed the need of people like myself who LOVE every single thing I can learn about The U. HOWEVER, it requires a bit of responsible THINKING on your own and also NOT listening to the information of just one site or source. I've said this before, I'm NO SMARTER than any of you and am FAR from an insider, BUT I DEVOUR anything Cane related and form my own opinions and relationships with people that DO know abit about the, as Ice Cube said in Boyz in the Hood...Actual Factuals! HAHAHA! Here is what I posted...

UM didnt make it known that they wouldnt take him until recently, please understand this.

My response: Chris your arguments are your arguments and that is between you guys but YOU KNOW the school and the coach CAN NOT speak about recruiting so to say UM didn't say anything is irresponsible. Especially as it pertains to those that BELIEVE EVERY SINGLE THING YOU GUYS PUT OUT. It is unfair to the school and creates hostility towards the current staff. I don't agree with that. I love you guys and value what you bring but I'm also aware enough to know that you guys are running a business and that when it comes to recruiting you only present 1 side of it, the players because that is really all you can have as the coaches and school can't discuss it. Also I believe UM did and still do want Todd and that he HAD a commitable offer. They just wanted him to do whatever it was they asked of him and when he didn't, they pulled. I'm of the mind set it will all get resolved and Todd will still be in this class.
