Coach Haith saw Rashad and I walking up to the court to take his picture and he walked right over to us and shook our hands.

No words were exchanged but the eye contact was all that needed to be said!

Thats how we roll!!! lol

MM01, you're not just saying this because you met the young man personally are you? haha j/k.

If Team Shannon think enough of him to give him THAT number, he must be something.

mm01 here, you bet. His instincts are good, he's quick, makes quick reads, and just makes plays.

Don't sleep on Devont'a Davis either. Kid just makes plays, too. Not afraid to tackle, and saw him and Kevin literally take over a game in the second half to win. No offense, just Kevin and Devont'a willing their team to a win. What UM needs on defense...

PLAYMAKERS

miamimike01

Kevin doesn't possess great top end speed, but does have enough to make plays sideline-to-sideline. (4.65, I would guess) He has a great frame which will allow him to bulk up. He's better against the pass than Sharpton could ever hope to be. Gets into his zone coverages quickly and has instincts on whether or not to attack the ball carrier.

Devont'a, IMO, is more of a zone coverage CB. (I would guess 4.65) Could even move to safety with his comfort level with contact. Not blazing fast either, which is why safety, after a RS year, might be his best bet. He's 6'0, 165 now. After his SO(RS) year, should be around 185, 190. That's when I believe he'll start to break out.

Kevin, I don't see being RS'ed. Blustein said J. Johnson is ready now, but I have to put Kevin in that category, too. Special Teams to start. Might even get some Nickel snaps b/c of his understanding of pass coverages.

Folks, I've seen these kids practice. Took in a WHOLE PRACTICE before the interviews.

GHS coaches well, and Kevin and Devont'a only playing defense helps in their development as defenders.

UM STOLE TWO PLAYMAKERS from Gainesville. From Urban's backyard.

Doesn't that warm your heart?

miamimike01

Devont'a is prolly slightly faster than Kevin, at this point. Maybe closer to 4.6. UM can shave that time to around 4.45 by the time he leaves school.

I expect Kevin to bulk up, stay around the 4.65, 4.7 range. That's fast enough to play MLB. Quickness is better than pure speed at MLB.

Hassan great to meet U and Mrs 86 last night. Jean especially enjoyed Mrs 86 company at the game. My wife is not a sports fan she goes with me now just to get out of the house. Can't wait to see U and introduce you my best Hurricane Buddy, Kyle. He has a son of 9.

We call each other several times through the week, at halftime to discuss strategies and personel, and after the game to discuss why we won or lost. I met him in 2003 in Shreveport, LA, @ the LA TECH game.

Somehow, he snuck on the field an led the the team through the smoke, was on the sideline through the first quarter before he was asked for a sideline pass and quickly came back into the stands.

We've traveled to each other's houses to watch FSU and VT games, us living in CO and he in OK. We've been best friends ever since.

Can't wait for him to meet all my Spacer buddies. Christmas for me and Randy...

Mangino to receive $3 million settlement ===

Lawrence, KS (Sports Network) - Former Kansas head football coach Mark Mangino
will receive a $3 million settlement from the school's athletics program as
part of an agreement signed last week.

Mangino, who resigned earlier in this month after an internal review, had four
years remaining on his contract. The total worth of Mangino's contract was
$9.2 million.

The settlement will be paid using private funds raised by Kansas athletics,
not state taxpayer funds.

The internal review was supposedly related to player concerns about verbal and
physical abuse, though Mangino repeatedly denied any wrongdoing regarding the
allegations against him.

Mangino was named consensus national coach of the year in 2007, but the
Jayhawks went 5-7 this past season after losing their last seven games.
Mangino left Kansas with a 50-48 record that included the school's first ever
BCS bowl win, against Virginia Tech at the 2008 Orange Bowl.

miamimike01

Man, I can't wait. Christmas hasn't been this kind in a decade.

Miami will win. Close. 23-17.

Clay will have over 100 YDS, but it wont be enough. Speed on offense, and Whipple with time to prepare will be the difference.

Calvin nice post with the Herbal Minded link. He had a good breakdown of AB and Sharpton. I think AB will get his due time, people act like he has failed and he still has two years left to ball out. AB's problem must be communicating with the others on D. The MLB is usually the QB of the defense, and that encompases more than just see ball get ball. Once AB gets down the mental aspect of the game he will be lights out

Miami giving 3 points with a over/under at 59.... equates to Miami 31, Wisc 28!!!

FightingIbis

I see some people are questioning Hurtt's ability to coach D-line here at Miami. I think Hurtt is going to be just fine as D-line coach here at Miami.

Our entire recruiting fell off the map under Coker. If you look at what's in the pipe at the DT position you have to be excited. We've got some ballers who are young. Of course they're not go out & dominate as true sophomores & freshmen in the tenches against 5th year seniors & juniors. I will say they more than held their own this year. I think you saw a glimpse of what's to come in the USF game. They looked like the light came on in that game.

Our DT depth will look like this next year.

92 Josh Holmes DT Jr. 2V 6-0/280
57 Allen Bailey DL Jr. 2V 6-4/288
99 Marcus Forston DT So. 2V 6-3/310
98 Jeremy Lewis DL So. 2V 6-3/310
54 Micanor Regis DL So. 2V 6-3/300
93 Luther Robinson DL Fr. HS 6-3/292
96 Curtis Porter DL Fr. HS 6-1/315

If we can stay healthy we'll have 7 DT's to rotate through the season. This will be the 1st year where the DT's coming in can RS & really get themselves ready for the trenches & not be thrown in before their time.

Our DE depth will look like this.

90 Steven Wesley DL Jr. 2V 6-3/250
97 Adewale Ojomo DL So. 1V 6-4/253
56 Marcus Robinson DL So. 2V 6-1/237
48 Andrew Smith DL So. 2V 6-2/245
35 Olivier Vernon DL Fr. HS 6-3/250
49 Dyron Dye DL Fr. HS 6-5/240
95 Gavin Hardin DL Fr. RS 6-4/245

Again, that's 7 DE's that can rotate through the season. I finally see the numbers at this position getting where they need to be. See why the D-line recruiting has been a little shaky? Young guys see there's a logjam starting to pile up there.

IMO Miami's D-line is going to be straight up nasty next year. We played guys we had to because of injury & will get back the guys who were injured. We'll also add in guys who didn't play & took the RS & bring in more to reload for the future. Just keep stacking chips!

Champs Sports Bowl
Miami vs. Wisconsin
Dec. 29, Orlando, Fla. (ESPN, 8 ET)

Why to watch: After a week of teeming mediocrity, this will be the first matchup of ranked teams since the Poinsettia Bowl on Dec. 23.

Who's happier to be there: The Badgers and their fans are always tickled to visit Florida at this time of year, but the Hurricanes (17) are even happier. It's their first in-state bowl game since 2003.

Moderately useful Dash fact: Miami is 3-0 this year against bowl-bound nonconference opponents, and looking to go 4-0. Wisconsin hasn't beaten a team in Jeff Sagarin's top 50.

Completely useless Dash fact: Current Big Ten teams are 1-6 in this bowl.

Dash pick: Miami 27, Wisconsin 17.

I've decided to give my breakdown of the entire Defense for next year. Hope you all don't mind.

Our LB's should be good next year. I already stated the D-line should finally be back to Miami caliber next year. Our front 4 will be wreak havoc on opposing O-lines & QB's. This should allow the LB's to be more productive.

The only concern I have is the MLB position. I think McCarthy will slide over OR AB & Shayon Green battle it out & win the job. At least it's nice knowing we'll have competition to decide the job.

Sean Spence & McCarthy are good to go so that's two spots taken care of. Futch was starting to look good. Buchanon was starting to come on late in the season. Hopefully the light comes on for AB. I hope CJ Holton puts in his work & can step up.

Question for Truth? I heard Shayon Green was playing MLB & was looking good before getting banged up. Is this true?

We have to stay healthy at LB next season. Injuries could hurt us in this position. It looks like we have a solid LB class coming & maybe someone is a Sean Spence who can play right now.

JCane

Interesting thing about Leavitt of USF is that he was actually a Kansas State position coach back when Kirby Hocutt was playing there in the early 1980s, and I think it was his position. I wonder what our AD would say about the mess up there.

Sad story about C. Henry. He definitely was WVU, back under Rich Rodriguez.

The Truth

"IMO Miami's D-line is going to be straight up nasty next year. We played guys we had to because of injury & will get back the guys who were injured."

That's what a lot of posters said before this year.

I think Hurtt is a good DL coach...a good one.

I'd like too see him get more out of that group. Make no mistake, there's is not one Sapp, Brown or Wilfork in the bunch. But they can play better.

He wanted bosses...well, he's got some players. Some studs so let's see it technique wise.

I know it's up to the players...I believe it's mostly up to them. But I see differences in preparation and technique between Hurtt and a couple of other DL coaches that have come through Miamis coaching ranks...I also see a difference in production.

So...is it depth (part of it - without a doubt)? Is it talent (part of it - without a doubt)? Is it coaching (Part it? I think so)?

Hurtt needs to step it up right along with the kids. I said it before this season and it all played out: The D will play as well as the DL does.

Everyone needs to step it up.

Coach O = BOSS DL coach
Coach Mark = Boss DL coach
Coach P = Boss DL coach
Hurtt = Good DL coach

My concerns for next year are as follows:

1. Kicking game. Replacing Bosher will be a huge component to our success as both an offense in salvaging stalled drives for 3 pts and as a defense to prevent them from having to deal with a short field too often.

2. Depth at QB. Hopefully Jacory heals up well this offseason and the shoulder/arm/hand pain will be a thing of the past, allowing him to take a hit without his arm being a concern.

3. Consistency. This team had the potential to be an 11-1 team this year, only to let up when they had a chance to control their fate. Hopefully, as mainly Jrs, the team has fully turned the corner to take care of business for 4 quarters each and every game. I believe they will, but until they demonstrate it, it remains an issue.

The personnel is in place in terms of talent. If they work, study hard and execute each game, this is a BCS championship squad.

BEERicane....

#1 Bosher will be back for 2010. He's only a Junior. Supposedly we are looking at a kicker right now is a total stud. Already kicks off the grass in HS. Can hit the long ball to pin teams deep.

#2 On most teams you'll find if their starter goes down you're hurtin. Look at OU this year. We can say what we want but OU would've been a different team with Bradford at QB. I think Cinci is one of the only teams I've watched who's put in their backup & didn't miss a beat. ND is getting a good one in Kelly. I wanted him at Miami during our HC search if Randy didn't get it. I love Randy though & know what he's building in Gables. And the whole country isn't going to like it, again. I think that whole parity garbage is BS. Miami can & will dominate again just like the 80's, 90's & 99-2002 Miami teams. Everytime Miami has dropped off throughout the years everyone has always said Miami would never win again the way they did. You'd think people would quit saying that considering we bounced back from probation by putting together the best CFB ever assembled.

Damn that was all over the map! LOL.

#3 I thought our team was as consistent as they could be considering all the injuries throughout the season. I expect to see a Miami team come out & smack Wisconsin in the mouth. They should be as healthy as they've been all year & the coaches should have plenty of time to work on a solid game plan. I think that's exactly what we're going to see.

Da U N Houston

I really think AB turns the corner next year. His biggest problem was that the coaches need the MLB to be the QB of the defense, and AB could not do that. As long as he busts his butt in the film room he will be beastly.......He needs to kick it with Mac and Sleepy, those guys stay in teh film room.....and to his defense he never had to study film, he just debo'd folks in Kansas....also it being his second year in the defense will help......

The kid Leavitt treated like Rihanna/Tina Turner, probably was offered a full-ride but then they got smart and realized how suspicious that would look ... so a lot of 500 hundred dollar handshakes by a lot of people at once, which probably equaled out to a very very nice Xmas and a Happy New Year

Love the pics of the Gator recruits..

There should be a new addition to the Urban slang dictionary... The Gator version of calling an audible: "Stick 'em up".

2 years ago on this date, a bunch of people on Canespace (including myself) were anxiously awaiting some po-dunk television station in Kansas to air their live stream so we could watch Arthur Brown stand at a podium, and hopefully pull out a hat with the greatest symbol ever created for the sports world

People were at work, trying to act like they were busy doing their job while secretly listening in -or- reading the writing of people on here -or- clinching their fists & getting angry that the live stream from that Wichita television station wasn't up yet ..... and everyone was nervous

As soon as Arthur Brown pulled out that green hat with the "U" on it, put it on, this board went completely apesh*t

It was 2 years ago on this date, my birthday, so I will always be connected to Arthur b/c of his commitment date of 12/17

Hey Truth,

Every once in awhile I hear some fans barking about Swasey & him not being a good strength & conditioning coach.

I personally think it's just more Randy bashing to just bash BS but what are your thoughts on him?
