Yesterday your Miami Hurricanes found out where they will go bowling this year and as was expected that location is the Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando on December 29, 2009.
The Hurricanes will face Big Ten representative the Wisconsin Badgers at 8 PM at the Citrus Bowl Stadium which is located in downtown Orlando. The Badgers finished the 2009 season with a 9-3 record and are currently ranked 24th in the AP poll. Miami has played Wisconsin three times, beating the Badgers 51-3 the last time the teams met in 1989 up in Madison.
The Badgers played FSU in last year's Champs Sports Bowl and lost 42-13.
While the Canes did not get a coveted New Year's Day bowl game as was hoped by many, they are perfectly happy with a short trip up to the 407 to see Mickey Mouse and his friends at Disney and to enjoy the wonderful attractions in and around the Orlando area.
Of course Canespace will be on hand to cheer on the Canes and plans to have several events planned for Canes fans who live in, or are traveling to, Orlando for the game.
We will party like rock stars as we celebrate and look forward to the New Year. A year in which the Canes will win the ACC and go to a BCS game.
I'm just sayin'...
First!

WE ARE IN SECTION 315, ROW D, SEATS 1-6.
THE EAST SIDE OF THE STADIUM IS THE ACC/MIAMI SIDE. WE ARE IN THE UPPER DECK SE CORNER.

Will there be an oxygen bar up there???? LOL
Posted by: raizecane | December 07, 2009 at 01:38 PM
LOL I'm kidding SOUP, I'm in but I'm going with my wife/ and Momma and Daddy CaneSaw. We should meet up somewhere before the game though.
I won't know about my tickets until the UM admissions office sends them. I wanted to buy them elsewhere but I had to obey Kirby and make sure we bought out the UM ticke allotment, since I'm b*tching and moaning about UM getting no bowl love. Once I find out, I'll let you know where we are, that way you can meet the two lovely ladies of the Disalvo Canes Crew (since you've met me and my father)
But maybe you or Canechic can come up with a sports bar by the stadium to meet up at????????? WHOS GOT THIS?
Posted by: CaneSawMassacre | December 07, 2009 at 01:40 PM
The Idaho coach apparently didn't vote UM in the top 25 at all. Like not even number 25......
The guy is a bit delusional with midwest teams.

13-0 this time next year?

404...no 12-1, then the FedEx Orange Bowl.
Last year I got there early for the FHSAA football state playoffs and parked in U on the map that RaizeCane posted the link to.
It was $5 or $10 to park there right next to the Stadium. But U will have to get there EARLY! Canechic will NEVER make it.

I think parking lot "U" is the most appropriate place to park.....wouldn't everyone agree??
Posted by: raizecane | December 07, 2009 at 02:25 PM
Man, wish I could make it to the bowl game. I have never been to a post season game before and would love to experience that atmosphere. Oh well...being able to see the Canes get a win over Oklahoma this year was good enough to hold me over until my next game which hopefully will be next year at the "Shoe" against the luck-eyes. Does anyone have any idea how much those tickets may cost?
Thanks!

Anywhere from $50 to $80 would be my guess.
Canespace will be there, right MaryLou?

From Stewart Mandel:
The Gator Bowl goes rogue
If you want to talk about a bowl-selection injustice, turn your attention to Jacksonville, Fla. The next time one of the bowl industry apologists tries to give the usual spin that "bowls reward student-athletes of successful teams" (actual quote), ask Miami's current student athletes whether they feel the same.
The bowl business is no different than any other business, as the Gator Bowl so gallingly demonstrated with its decision to select 6-6 Florida State over 9-3 Miami (and three other eight-win ACC teams) for its New Year's Day game. Bobby Bowden's sendoff game against his former team, West Virginia, will be a certifiable box-office bonanza. But let's not pretend anyone did this for the "student-athletes." Otherwise, the mediocre Seminoles wouldn't be basking in New Year's glory while the Hurricanes slink off to the Champs Sports Bowl and division champion Clemson drops to the Music City Bowl. (Both teams beat FSU.)
"I'm not sure any bowl in America could put together a more compelling matchup in this year's bowl season than we've been able to put together," said Gator Bowl chairman Dan Murphy. "So I will tell you from my standpoint, I'm really not sure what we would apologize for."
Actually, he's got nothing to apologize for -- but the ACC does.
To make the matchup happen, Gator Bowl officials exploited a loophole in their contract with the conference. In 2005 and 2006, when the conference title game was still in Jacksonville, the Gator twice got stuck hosting a return trip from the runner-up, so the ACC made a peace offering: The Gator would not be obligated to select the title-game loser again during the rest of the current four-year cycle. However, the ACC's printed rules also state that no bowl can select a team that finished two games lower than another available team.
In the days after Bowden's retirement announcement, once the Gator's intentions became clear, the two sides privately debated whether the bowl contract's title-game clause trumped the other rule, but it was clear to those of us covering it that the ACC either had no ground to stand on or lacked the muscle/motivation to fight the bowl. (This is the last year of their partnership.)
"The ACC does not evaluate the selection decisions made by bowl organizations," associate commissioner Michael Kelly told ESPN.com. "The only thing we confirmed to the Gator Bowl Association was the acknowledgment that, because they had previously fulfilled the contractual obligation to select the championship game runner-up back in '06, they were within their rights to [take FSU]."
You think Mike Slive would let that happen? Or Jim Delany? Not a chance. With all due respect to Bowden, the league let down several of its constituents.

Ticketmaster has lower level seats, near the 50, through a ticket exchange for a $14 surcharge.
Tough call to buy seats in the nosebleeds instead of those.
I called the UM ticket office and they told me they can't even guarantee where our seats will be.

Their delusional coach needs to get his weight up and worry his sorry azz team. Not even on the []_[]'s radar
Posted by: moneycane | December 07, 2009 at 03:07 PM
LMAO money - The coach is actually pretty good.
Got Idaho to there first bowl game in a minute. That being said, he is delusional and has a love fest with the midwest.
He even has Boise #3 over TCU, Northwestern at #19...
It just wasn't the fact that UM was completely absent from the top 25. His whole selection was completely phucked.
He should have his vote taken away. He was likely the reason we were not a spot higher in the coach's poll.

They are selling for $60 at the UM site and there is no guarantee where u will sit. It says "General Admission".
The game will NEVER sell out. The UM side might be full but not sold out.
The Wisnconsin side will be WIDE open.
If U got money to spend, spend it.
If U don't be smart and go cheap and get a FREE upgrade after the first quarter.

Mike London Named Head Football Coach At Virginia
Courtesy: VirginiaSports.com
Release: 12/07/2009
Mike London becomes the 39th head coach in program history.
CHARLOTTESVILLE- Mike London, the head football coach at the University of Richmond for the last two years, is the new head football coach at the University of Virginia, UVa Athletics Director Craig Littlepage announced today. London will be returning to head up a Cavalier program where he twice previously served stints as an assistant coach. He becomes the 39th coach in the program's history.
"Coach London's experience as a championship head coach, combined with a variety of college and pro assistant coaching assignments position him for success at the University of Virginia," Littlepage said. "He understands how to develop and implement a program that prioritizes the academic achievement of his players and winning at the highest levels of college football. Mike London is a coach around whom we can all rally as he goes about the task of building a successful football program at Virginia."
In two seasons at Richmond, London led the Spiders to a 24-5 record. His first year at the helm his team went 13-3 and won the Football Championship Series national title. This year's Spider team, ranked nine consecutive weeks at No. 1 in the FCS polls, went 11-2 and reached the quarterfinals of the FCS playoffs. His teams were 13-4 in the Colonial Athletic Conference during the 2008 and 2009 campaigns.

D*MNNNNNN I bought my tickets through the UM site.
SO I'm basically phucked for listening to Kirby.. Nice!
Is it going to be in the top area too? Or does anybody have a clue?

CSM...if U bought through UM for $60 they will be lower bowl seats NOT upper deck.
Wisconsin will sell out their side. Bowl game in sunny florida? Easily.

I will bet U a MILLION dollars they do NOT sell out their side of the stadium and neither will Miami.
Wisconsin was played in the SAME BOWL just last year against FSU and got SMOKED 42-13.
The economy stinks. It's after X-mas. Nobody has cash. Betcha!

MM01 and RandyCane in Section 310 on ACC side about 35 yardline. Will be at Hampon Inn on International Drive. Let us know here the parties are and will bring what is necessary. Also bringing a Canes diehard with us from Oklahoma and his son.

Will have to pass on a MILLION DOLLAR bet.
Even if they don't sell out it won't be WIDE OPEN. I'll bet a beer it's close to a sell out.
Posted by: DZ8 | December 07, 2009 at 04:07 PM
Soup,
remember that guy who came on here saying that he had a source telling him that Streeter was going to transfer? i thought it would've have been funny if you let him back on for a week so we can all unload on him.
it would really be funny if as soon as you let him back the Truth were to show up.

The last time I went to the Citrus Bowl (WrestleMania), I was slightly scalded by a runaway firecracker...NOT FUN! If ya'll can assure me that there will be no fireworks before, during, or after the game, then I will get over my pyrophobia and consider going, if not, then I'm stayin' my ass home...eff dat...
Posted by: CaneRock | December 07, 2009 at 04:19 PM
No way this bowl sells out, it'll be 80% to tops, 90% full which will be a good turnout, but not a sellout. The Germans in Wisconsin HATE Mickey Mouse, it's a sixty year plus tradition so there will be some who choose to watch from home. The game itself will be a tough one, both coaches need this game bad. The Randy needs to win his first bowl game of his career, Biliema needs to get to 10 wins again to appease some grumbling in his fanbase since he's in such a tough situation stepping into Alvarez's shoes in Madison. Never follow the legend of a program, a warning Dumbo Fishhead never got through his skull in Tallhicksville obviously. 10 wins still means something in college football, it's the mark of an elite level team, January 1st games, not so much anymore. I mean, USF is playing in January 2010, in Canada. Would you rather be in Jacksonville over Orlando? I didn't think so either Hurricane fan.

CaneRock, did you join the class action against the entertainment company that was filed due to the fireworks incident? And were you as depressed as I was to see Flair fail on the bridge-out of the pin? There was something about seeing The Man not being able to do that spot anymore but needing the money so bad he still had to be out there trying it that made me so very, very sad inside. And now he's back, again. It just is so wrong on so many levels.

Yo
I got all caught up in the hype yesterday and bought tix before checking my schedule!!
I am not going to be able to make it down for the game. Too much going on that week.

There will be transfers, some of them even being players we'll miss. Don't know if Streeter will be one of them. I don't think so and I hope not.
Cook/Smith showed us that there is no final transfer date. With that being said we'll just keep on reloading.
How many guys are we going to have early enroll? What is the most allowed. I think we can give out 25 scholys a year, EEs count towards the previous year. Last year we had what? 18 recruits. Then we had two QBs leave us. Does that give us room for 9 EEs?
