REPOST about Rick Carletti Gator Bowl VP

He keeps talking about his contractual loop holes but hasn't mentioned once, how this might affect other teams in the conference.

OR how they are taking the LAST PLACE BOWL ELG> TEAM FROM THE PHUCKING ACC and they have the 3rd place (tentative I know) slot.

Canez1

Solar lmao!! You gotta act like you been there before...

GO CANEZ!!!!!

Just got off an invitation ONLY media conference call with ESPN producers and Billy Corben the Director of the soon to be released movie: "The U".

Great Q & A and excellent material for a new blog feature. It will post tomorrow night at 7 PM.

CaneSawMassacre

NOOOOO.. Did you ask Billy why he didn't name the movie Cocaine Hurricanes????

I can't wait for the Q and A.

Just tell Billy next time, give the Shalllalllallalalalalalaala the d*mn script. So we could get the Boss Man in a movie.

MORE BREAKING NEWS:

ATHENS, Ga. -- Georgia has let go embattled defensive coordinator Willie Martinez and two other assistant coaches, Channel 2 Action News sports director Chuck Dowdle confirmed Wednesday.

In addition to Martinez, UGA also terminated John Jancek, defensive co-coordinator/linebackers coach and Jon Farbis, defensive ends coach.

404, damn, Martinez did a solid job for the most part. Richt couldn't get the kids over the hump, not the coordinators but what do I know about GA football.

Smells a little 2005 Cokerish to me.

Like Calvin said, this bowl fiasco will teach these guys not to leave these matters in other people's hands.

Lesson learned and I hope they take it out on their opponent.

Loco

good article

Loco

I said, "Let the rest of the world have soccer." Then I said something about Football being the greatest sport. Loco said he thought soccer was the best then asked me to explain why football was. I did, from a players and a spectators perspective, the spectator especially.

Posted by: Captain Optimist aka Cavaleer | December 02, 2009 at 02:02 PM

False.

I said football was second, yes. But that does not mean that I said that soccer was first. You assumed, and you know what that means.

And no, I'm not a foreignor, nor do I speak like one or act like one. I know a lot of them and am friends with a lot of them, and may use certain terms like "boots" for cleats or "pitch" for rugby field. But I only do those in terms of the sport I play.

I'm not going to get into a political or social argument with you on this blog because this is a sports blog, and I suspect the only reason our discussion has been allowed to take place is because its about sports, and the only other thing we have is people whining about what bowl will do what. But I'm an American, and I support and love my country. Just like with my Canes though, I'm not BLIND. I see problems and know what's wrong.

And sure, the US created football, great. But do you know what the fastest growing sport in the US is? You'll find out that things change, and people change. And that you don't know everything you think you do

I will fight for your right to have an opinion and for my right to know that your opinion is wrong and mine is right

Nice superficial points when the Big 3 have saturated the market so there's no "growth" left for them, only for "new" sports, like foreign soccer and native lacrosse.

And we'll see just how much you love America in the coming decades, when foreign interests are no longer pulling strings behind closed doors and we don't have limp-dik tools and puppets making laws.

Yeah, haha, we'll see it then.

Haha, rights barely scratch the surface of the word American but you're clearly on that wagon, like many others.

That's probably the biggest "problem" we have as a nation is the misuse and abuse of the word "rights".

I know that Billy Corben said this movie about The "U" is going to help recruiting like you wouldn't believe

Bowl games that have a contract with a conference must select a team with at least seven wins if one is available.

I agree that soccer is significantly less fun to watch live or on TV then football, but I know I'm biased I was raised on american football.

I don't care, but if you go overseas and ask them they will say futbol is better then futbol de americana...

It is all about perspective.

I rather watch soccer though then cricket or most olympic sports.

Hurricane > 7 wins.

Semenholes < 7 wins.

Gator Bowl = contract with ACC.

Yes? No? Math wrong here?

CaneSawMassacre

This is the NCAA bylaw I was talking about JSQ. I just couldn't find it again though.

So doesn't the NCAA have to stand up for other ACC teams rights?????

Please help again JSQ!

CaneSawMassacre

And I saw this before OGV, but apparently the ACC has worked out different rules with the Gator bowl.

I tried watching the world cup soccer thing a few years back and I couldnt stop laughing when a guy would fall down and it seemed like his leg had been broken in 10 places

Then gets up and runs around again. I mean what the hell is that all about?

I also didnt get the whole clapping over the head thing or taking their nasty jersey off and giving it to the other team

That was it for me trying to watch soccer

Even curling is above soccer here in America

CaneSawMassacre

It is like the Gator Bowl is using their contractual obligations - the ones they obliged or held up (i.e. inviting the championship loser 1 out of 4 years) as a reason to not validate other rules.

I'm not sure how this interacts with NCAA bylaws.

Posted by: CaneSawMassacre | December 02, 2009 at 04:44 PM

I would argue that the NCAA bylaws are like the US Constitution - the supreme law of the land. You can't contract out of their rights and obligations any more than you can contract out of the fundamental rights guaranteed under the Constitution. So, it doesn't matter what the Gator Bowl contracted with the ACC - if it violates the NCAA rules, the contract is null and void. Sorry, Bobby.

Not saying this is what is going to happen - just what I would argue for the 'Canes to avoid going to a west coast hand j-b bowl.

CaneSawMassacre

LMAO - you are hired JSQ!

I'll see you in Jacksonville Friday, we are going to sue these Jancky b8stards and avoid another West Coast Hand J*B Bowl!!!

Who wants to come and be part of the picketing a.k.a rioting crew???

Sebastian

I was over at Mannys site and he posted this about the bowl situation. If this is something that shouldnt of been done here please let me know

Folks,

Here is why FSU can go to the Gator Bowl despite being 4-4 in conference play. According to Gator Bowl Association Executive Director Rick Catlett, the Gator Bowl is allowed to take whoever they want because in 2007 they took ACC runner-up Georgia Tech, filling the contractual obligation to take the loser of the ACC title game once every four years.

According to their deal with the ACC, the Gator Bowl can take any team whose ACC record is within one loss of the top remaining available team. So, regardless if Georgia Tech (7-1) or Clemson (6-2) wins the ACC title, as long as Virginia Tech (6-2) gets taken by the Chick-Fil-A Bowl, the Gator is free to choose between 5-3 UM, 5-3 Boston College, 4-4 FSU and 4-4 UNC.

The Gator Bowl obviously wants the Seminoles. The fact the Gator Bowl and ACC are splitting ties after this season is another big reason this is happening. The ACC is actually trying to get the Seminoles to play in the Champs Sports Bowl, which will climb the ladder next season when the Gator Bowl is gone. But it probably won't happen. Either way, UM and BC are getting hosed and passed up by an inferior team.

Sebastian,
I tried to respond to Manny but it would not let me post. Feel fre to copy/paste this response to him:

Manny,
The Gator Bowl has it right, with one exception...
– ncaa division I bylaw 30.9.2.1
States that you can't bypass a 7 win team to pick a 6 win team. It's cut and dry and while they might have satisfied everything with the ACC contract, they still have to follow the NCAA rules regarding bowl games.
(interesting note, last month they changes this bylaw with an amendmant that allows the 6 win team to be picked, HOWEVER this is not effective until 2010)

thanks! Go Canes! See you in J-Ville!

orange 'n green in the vein

The first time I can recall seeing that punt formation ever in a college game was Clemson in the OT loss with Brock in 2003.

orange 'n green in the vein

I'm sorry, OT loss in '04 with Brock, they run together during the later Coker years, you understand.

orange 'n green in the vein

Maybe a concerned Hurricane or BC Eagle fan will take it upon themselves to remind the Gator Bowl committee of the bylaw in question?

miamimike01

Louis Nix decommits to Notre Dame.

Not to worry.

I've heard that he takes plays off, doesn't put in the necessary extra time, is about 20 pounds overweight, and the depth chart concerned him at UM.

Admit it, we ALL saw this coming after his 3 visits to the Golden Dome. He thinks he can walk on campus next fall and start there.

Don't be too concerned we lost this guy. UM coaches hadn't even contacted him in about a month. What does that tell you? Maybe they were hoping he would decommit so they wouldn't look bad taking his spot away?

HMMMM....

solarcane

If The Gator Bowl wanted to see ratings go through the roof they should twist it around a little more and let one pissed off Miami Hurricane team play FSU.

They could use Miami was in the Big East when they played the best FSU teams so by right should rep the Big East in Bowden's last loss as a head coach.

umike, losing no one is a concern, the last 3 recruiting classes somebody went the other route, it's going ot happen, NEXT!

cav, after watching that rugby highlight clip you put up, i can't recall ever seeing a rugby match, but watching that rugby match, it is CRYSTAL clear now where they got the option from. I saw the 1st 15 to 25 secs of it and said damyum, is that where oklahoma and nebraska got their players from and now g-tech.

As far as the soccer thing goes, all i know is, they lost me when i was trying to watch a game and the commentator kept saying "they're dominating this game" i knew than that i knew nothing about soccer, cause the score was 1 to 0 when the announcer kept saying that, and i'm saying, WTF is he talking about, it's 1 to zero.

Anyway, alot of us like sports because of the collisions, in football bi hits, in basketball, breaking the rim dunks/collisions. In soccer and rugby, the contact is just not their for me.

rugby also reminds me that game we all played back in the day "one man stand"

Cat 5 Cane

Tiger didn't have a chance... and ladies, you know what I'm talking about. Women can be the biggest deceivers of them all and there isn't a man alive, that has a pulse, that can withstand a beautiful woman's assault, if that's what she wants... Women, and God knows I love ya, can be a man's worst nightmare, if thats what they want to be or the same women can be the Sweetest piece of cherry pie that you have ever had...

Face it guys, we're screwed... one way or the other!...

Women rule!...lol

Ohhh Honey, you coming to bed soon?

Games I enjoyed as a kid that grown men wouldn't play now.

I played this stuff everyday till I got a motorcycle and cut the time out of the emergency room in half.

1 Murder ball using a wet tennis ball
( forerunner of pzzyass dodge ball)

2 crack the whip baja style

sit on an upside down car hood thats chained to the back of a pu truck.
Truck makes ever increasing high speed circles while the seat of your shorts catches fire from the hood skimming across the terrain.
You slide off the hood at around 50 mph into a tree or with luck your friends legs.

3 rock and roll boomerang

This one is scarier than anything Stephen King could dream up.

You and your friend stand on the peak of your house's roof
Throw a 45 rpm record as hard as you can like a throwing star.

The disk is invisible as it turns edgewise and screams 180 degrees right back into you.
You either try and time when to hold your hand out or you duck and take it in the small of your back

Why is it that people want to make responses to comments that have a long standing conversation then only comment on a portion..

First of all I watch lots of teams Dayton. I actually played college football too.

I know UM didn't invent that garbage a$$ formation.

I don't like the fact that UM started using it permanently this year. It is just like the spread offense, some gimmicky sh*t coaches make up when they feel like they have some sort of deficiency to make up for.

Something we at the U are proud of NOT DOING! We prepare people for the NFL. Tell me how Pannunnzio is preparing his special teams players to make a team with that garbage???

Does one team in the NFL use that garbage ass formation?

NOOOOOO b/c if it was any good they would use it their too. The bottom line is if you want to comment on things that I say go back and read everything releative to the conversation.

Never once did I say we invented it, I said he brought it to our special teams this year and it hasn't worked. Yet, he has stuck with it.

CaneSawMassacre

Solar great twist on the whole Gator Bowl scenario..

LOL very very clever...

CaneSawMassacre

Tell me how Pannunnzio is preparing his special teams players to make a team with that garbage???

Posted by: CaneSawMassacre | December 02, 2009 at 06:40 PM

Our guys dont make teams because they cover punts well.

CaneSawMassacre

Dude.. Just about every rookie plays special teams there first fews years.

CaneSawMassacre

And I would agree with you if I thought the formation was actually beneficial but we don't do it well so I don't see the point.

Bosher takes too much time for that formation to be good for us.

The whole point is for you to get your faster guys down the field to cover quickly. Bosher is a great punter, but he did just fine with the old formation.

pb(CSROH10)

If Vilma, Edge, Gore, Johnson or Winslow sucked on special teams I'm pretty sure they still would have been drafted.
