Yesterday at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando East met West as The Shriners hosted their annual regional All-Star game in Central Florida. The weather was beautiful, the game was fun, the Shriners are good people, wish you were here. Oh yeah, I almost forgot: The East beat the West 13-10.
Since I know that you don't really care about the score or who "won" what do you say we just stick to the pictures of the event? OK, I thought so!
The goal of the event is to basically gather some potentially draftable college players and have them show the NFL scouts what they can do without getting anyone injured. In that sense the game was successful and a good time was had by all both on the field and in the stands, especially the Shriners.
The annual charity event to raise money for the Shriners Children's Hospitals across the Country has been held since 1925. Many famous NFL players have played in this game and on hand to be honored were Shriner Hall of Famers former San Diego Chargers TE Kellen Winslow Sr. and former Miami Dolphin FB Larry Csonka. World famous musician Kenny G played a heart warming National Anthem before the game and gave a halftime concert to the delight of the relatively small crowd at the event.
The 2010 version of the East-West Shrine game turned out to be a predictably boring affair punctated by three field goals and two touchdowns. Yawn.
University of Miami players Javaris James and AJ Trump (both seen above) represented the Hurricanes at the event. Both are hoping to get selected in the NFL draft somewhere in the middle rounds.
James was particularly impressive during the practices leading up to the game. James was enjoying the experience and was kind enough to throw up "The U" for Canes fans in the stands (me included). Below you can see that James was feeling cocky enough about himself to talk some trash to the West defense during a timeout. It was all in good fun on this charitable day.
Trump played center for the East for the majority of the snaps and had a solid game that included a huge block in the open field that sprung the East RB for a big gain on a screen pass. In the photo below you can see Trump's U helmet along the offensive line with AJ at Center and JJ lined up at running back.
The best part about the game was that they sold reasonably priced beer during the event. I met some Canes fans in the stands and gave out a bunch of Canespace cards to some. Many already knew about Canespace, imagine that? I watched the game, bought a program, made a donation to the Shriners and left with this photo (that's me at L) and some nice memories.
See you next year, same time, same place, for the same event!
Talk about the media: how many time has UL been asked abou the 30 arrests? Now compare that to how much grief Randy gets becausse he won't give away specific injury information (patient privacy?)...
oh, and ahh....1st

All,
Hope Space nation is staying well! Keep the U info flowing please. Still in Haiti, but now staying in Port-au-Prince these days trying to establish a long term medical presence in the devastated area of Leogane. Tough place to be, but don't buy into all the negativity the media likes to throw out...there's a lot of organizations and governments from around the world doing everything possible to render aid, push supplies, and rebuild. Try to check back in later.

Seriously, great job what your doing and thanks for the updates. Good to hear some good news from that place. I think it shows that we are far from being a cynical selfish society or era. Thanks again.

METAIRIE, La. (AP) -- New Orleans Saints tight end Jeremy Shockey missed practice Friday with a sore right knee.
Shockey also did not participate in team drills the previous two days and couldn't make Friday's final full workout before Sunday's NFC championship game against Minnesota.
The eight-year veteran from Miami had three catches for 36 yards and a touchdown in last week's victory over Arizona, but hurt the knee on the 17-yard TD reception. During the season, he had 48 receptions for 569 yards and three scores.

I like the Vikings and Colts to win today with the Vikings winning it all.
I like the whole story of the old man winning it all coming to fruition. I also rooted for Tom Watson...
I like the Colts today for a couple reasons. One reason is that I can't stand the Jets. I'm a Dolphins fan and I can't stand the Jets or most of their fans. I want the J-E-T-S to lose, lose, lose.
Secondly, Peyton Manning is somewhat of a choke artist and I feel like the Favre led Vikings will have a better shot vs the Colts than vs the Jets.
Today's scores:
Colts 20
Jets 14
Vikings 27
Saints 23
Any thoughts?

Canesaddiction,
Agree with you about wanting the Jets to lose. I see the Viks getting to Brees early, then he goes to shotgun 4 wide and lights them up. I see that game a little higher scoring. While I do see the Jets running the ball to keep Manning off the fiel, but seeing what he did to the Phins with only having the ball 15mins I'm convinced the Colts beat Jets by at least 10.
So I got to go with the teams that have the most former Canes playing. Saints 38-31 and Colts 24-14

16. The NCAA finally solves the Reggie Bush scandal.
At the very end of the next decade, after former USC running back Reggie Bush has retired from the NFL, the NCAA will finally determine whether he received improper benefits while playing for the Trojans. Just days before USC's sanctions are announced in 2019, Kiffin will leave to become coach of L.A.'s new NFL franchise.
LMAO!

James got tackled before taking two steps a few times. Really had no chance. On one he tripped on someones toot. Can't be tripping on feet when auditioning for the NFL. Was rock solid in pass pro as would be expected - DT beat the OG bad but James was there to stop him in his tracks.

James was also open quite a bit.

bg, i meant to tell you the other day, man you dayum near put all your credibility on the line when you compared us going after this linebacker from ny(jimmy gaines) to us getting leon williams from up their, AS IF THAT'S SOMETHING TO LOOK FORWARD TOO, let's all hope he exceeds leon williams garbage play while here, when the only play about leon williams that stands out in my mind was him getting trucked at the goal line by that Fsu fullback, that was the epitome of that era, no pride, you one on one and he didn't get the job done.
Ok, in second place is leion williams just letting that tight-end kill him all game whppittsburgh drafted from virginia!

I only mentioned from 2 standpoints. 1.) He played a lot his senior year here, and 2.) he STUCK in the NFL for a bit. SO with that said, love him or hate him, he OBVIOUSLY had SOME TALENT to play. That's all I'm saying. Don't just think a guy can't play because he's from a non-traditional football powerhouse state.

For the STAR lovers...Urban Meyer just took a 2 star recruit whose only other offer was TEMPLE...Its not about the stars or the recruiting services....TRUST YOUR COACHES EVALUATIONS! If they guy ends up being a bust, you'll have PLENTY of opportunity to lambast him. So for the time being, lets support the recruits and not bytch and moan about why we don't have so and so and be glad we have the guys that WANT to be here.

WIDE OPEN several times and they wouldn't throw him the ball. He was looking over at the bench after every play. One time they threw to him the PSU QB threw it at his feet.

I have some raw video of J.James in practice during the week, along with Romeo Crennel talking about him that my co-worker in sports shot. I'll put it together and put it up for peeps to see later
