Butch Davis remarked when they were looking at this skinny prospect in northern California (Ken Dorsey) that he wasn't sacked ONCE in high school. Either he had a good o line, or he was something special.

I think he'll make a good coach someday because physically, he wasn't awe inspiring.

That's about the situation we have now in terms of backups...nobody really tested. Thing about Dorsey was, he was rarely touched. During the NC year, the OL, if memory serves me right, didn't give up one single sack. That is a crazy statistic right there.

My point is Solar's argument makes sense if JH continues to get hammered like he did last year.

By the way, you won't find a bigger J12 supporter than me. Anywhere. My only deal with Jacory is that he needs to try to stay within himself. I thought that a lot of his ints last year weren't pressure ints, they were more of the kind where he was trying to score two TDs on one throw. I do think he's a great kid and I know he feels personally responsible for bringing the Canes back. He loves the Canes and that's his mission. But as he goes, so goes our team.

Anyway, you're a funny guy.

GURU

The only person person that could push J12 in Miami is Chad Henne.imho

I wish we had a solid back up against Ohio St. way back when... just sayin

moneycane

Tripple C Kelly is your guy. He's like 31 so he just makes the under 35 criteria.

And all this talk about some one pushing Jacory, who in the hell was around to push Ken Dorsey. Ethnic Sands, Derick Crudup? These two names ring out when I think about prolific QB's. They trotted Dorsey back out there seeing stars when Crudup was here.

DZ8

Esteban

That movethesticks.com site is pretty cool. Thanks for the heads up.

Kenny Kelly still has some eligibility left?

I've tried to watch the Olympics twice this year. Both times I turn on the TV and it's curling.

Reminds me of Crocodile Dundee and he turns the TV on and they're still playing I Love Lucy.

solarcane

404,
I can't remember what game it was on TV but AJ was standing behind Whipple and his eyes were wide open his body language was "man don't put me out there."
I though he should be buckling his chinstrap and staring Whipple right in the eyes.

moneycane

Good line of reasoning. So who is it going to be? This spring practice should be intersting.

The kid needs the peace of mind knowing he can come out for a series and clear his head or take a breath without a chucklehead in there losing yardage or the ball.

Posted by: solarcane | February 23, 2010 at 05:05 PM

Good line of reasoning. So who is it going to be? This spring practice should be intersting.

DZ8

When Jimmy Johnson took over the Miami Dolphins he inherited Dan Marino, a pretty good QB. At his first practice he had a team meeting and let them know that NO ONE had made the team yet.

Five minutes into practice and undrafted free agent linebacker nailed someone in some drill and Jimmy turned to Larry Izzo and said, " Your the first player to make this team." A minute later he turned around and told Dan Marino that he was the second.

No one is talking about J12 being put on exactly even ground but he needs to be pushed. Even if he has the ability to push himself, which I think we are lucky that he does.

solarcane

I love Jacory I think hes a class kid and a hell of a competitor.

Jacory knows he has more than his team mates on his back, he is carrying Randy and Whipple the 1st right along with them.

The kid needs the peace of mind knowing he can come out for a series and clear his head or take a breath without a chucklehead in there losing yardage or the ball.

moneycane

Nobody is going to beat JH out, but someone needs to be hungry for his job.

Posted by: solarcane | February 23, 2010 at 04:53 PM

Yeah hungry for his job is different than making it an open qb competition and putting Jacory on even ground with the others once he returns from injury. Lil Whip, Morris AJ Highsmith are gonna give it their all but J12 is still the man.

I love J12, think he is one of the best things to happen to the program in a long time. But, Solar there is nothing wrong with that comment. In fact, competition can only make him better. I sure hope Morris is the answer, cuz it did not look like AJ pushed Jacory at all last year.

DZ8

And I'm with Canez1 to an extent. We should have competition at every position but the reality is the guys who could've competed with J12 (Taylor Cook/Robert Marve) left. Soemthing to remember when we talk about Randy playing favorites down the road but absolutely no one can get the QB job from J12 now.

Let's all hope we can get a couple of solid QB prospects next year and more importantly, that they stick around.

solarcane

Very seldom is Canez1 right about anything,

but he is right Jacory needs to be pushed, and pushed hard.

Rationalizing all those picks were because his hand was injured is legitimate at first thought.

How many of them could he have pulled down or tossed out of bounds before he got creamed if he was a Heisman quality leader?

In the huddle could he have told the slot receiver "be ready I aint gonna have much time to chuck this deep.

Nobody is going to beat JH out, but someone needs to be hungry for his job.

if we could all act like grown men and women and not like we're all going through puberty again, that would be great.

solarcane

This is just like this.

We used to stop by Sonny's Stardust Lounge on Powerline Blvd every night after work.

The place was always packed with construction workers and people that worked in or around Executive Airport.

It would never fail about once a week some one's feelings would get hurt at the pool table and crap would start.

I was always right in the middle of it if any way possible, if it involved "my guys".
Bar stools would get knocked over and broken, mugs were always getting shattered, eyes punched etc.

When who ever started it was sent home for the night, it was like nothing even happened. We were usually laughing about it before we left.

I asked Sonny why he never threw any of us out permanently.

He said something like:

" Gonz there are 6 bars within 10 minutes of here that will all sell you the exact same beer I will.
People don't come here every night to drink the beer they can get right up the street.

People hangout at Sonny's because they enjoy entertaining each other or just sitting back watching the stuff happen.

If I threw you and your crew out, then Big Mac's crew, pretty soon Mike, John, Wayne and Jeffery would be over at the Banana Boat with you drinking the same beer they were drinking here.

I put up with you guys because you ARE Sonny's."

Walking out into the parking lot I would turn to Todd and Smooth and say somethin like
" Who the hell would drink at the friggin Banana Boat??"

Yes, he's not always been the most patient guy and has made mistakes, but he's also generally acknowledged and fixed his errors. Biggest thing is he's created a CANES blog so unlike the others out there - a FREE blog BTW - that everyone is moved to state appreciation for what we have. Nice point, Este. Their QB sure didn't play like a freshman, so the offense should be better. You're right about their defense as well. From what I've been told, they're a ton of people waiting for him to screw up one more time so they can get rid of him, though. In addition to the losing records, and the oversight embarassment, apparently he's not to good at making new friends (especially alumns with $$$$). It's way worse than the Randy haters.

money - LOL - Curling is on the rise? who woulda thunk it

Captain Optimist aka Cavaleer

CCC, I believe it. Honestly though Meeechigan's getting what they deserve because they didn't do their due diligence to find out what type of HC RR really is. He had a lot of ish under the rug and in the closets at WVU.

Lurker

Cav

I know they're not happy with him up there. Some alums I know have expressed the opinion that he basically has this year to show something or he's out, and he's on a very short leash, if any other issue comes out he could be gone this year. Just what I heard from a couple of meeeechaganers fwiw.

Captain Optimist aka Cavaleer

CCC, RRod is on the hotseat without question. He tried to do shyt at Meech that he probably got away with at WVU. It'll be funny if he gets canned. Not a good omen for the condoms.

Captain Optimist aka Cavaleer

Money, I think Morris will take it from AJ but he'll have to take it.

Lurker

Ok, how long before Michigan fires RichRod? I say he gets one more year. If Michigan has a bad season AND loses to OSU, he's a goner for sure, IMO

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4938956

BTW, just another reason - Randy's way is the right way. Now let's see what happens to USC

j.w.

I don't see it, 404.
C3: 1) 50% (I think Highsmith is the likelier pick as backup, at least for now.)
2) 100% (since you said 12 months :))
3) 100%

Captain Optimist aka Cavaleer

CGNC it's definitely a northern thing. I went to school up north and I could see some fools standing around with too much time on their hands and too much liquor in their bellies making up this.

It looks like a drinking game to be honest. LOL.

Lurker

Odds of this happening sometime within the next 12 months?

1. Morris and Whipple become the backup QB's
2. Highsmith moves to another position (likely safety, where he could be a real stud)
3. We sign a top notch QB recruit Feb 2011

Or to much wishful thinking on my part.

404Canes404

Is Highsmith going to be a successful starting QB at the U?

shwarma

bg - have a sneaking suspicision your right on the money with your evaluation of the situation...but then again I just hope its like the Seantrel rumors

moneycane

As far as the #2 guy goes who would the space like to see take hold of the job. If Morris doesn't win the job would it be viewed as an indictment of his abilities or a positive os Highsmith's abilities

About J12 not being hungry and needing competition I don't think thats the case. Some people put way more pressure on themselves to be great that anyone or external competition could generate. I think J12 is one of those people. He is the Leader of this team for a reason.

miamimike01

Agreed on competition, Canez1.

Este LOL thats what I was thinking.

Mike I was just trying to say that this pos. should be open like the rest of them. I am not annointing anyone, including JH12, at this point.

I want to keep EVERYONE on this team hungry. Including the coaches.

We need to be very careful not to slip back into the country club atmosphere.

We also need to recruit QB's more efficiently and the young studs are not going to come here if they know there is no chance for a LONG time.

I know everyone loves RS and trusts him completely but I for one do not trust anything around here anymore.

Just looking for whats best for the TEAM and at this point I don't think anyone should be secure.

I love JH12 but I love the U MUCH more.

GO CANEZ!!!!!

Esteban

would have been funnier to leave it being from Randy.

miamimike01

That's from me Canez1, not Randy

RandyCane

Canez1, I don't get your logic.

J12 has proved nothing?! Are U serious? Behind a "crap" line, 3300 yards and 24 TD's with a busted gun for half the season?!

Do the INT's need to come down? Yes.

Oh, but Stephen Morris is gonna be a stud! Well' let's just not anoint the kid.

------------------------------------->>>>>

All Jacory has proven is he can hit wide open receivers and throw game losing INT's. That was the theme for 09.

Not saying he is horrible but I am saying he has proven nothing on the field.

IMO his injury played a huge role in his 09 but it is what it is and at this point I say open up the comp and let the best man win.
