I am all for PETA but let the Boys alone.

Posted by: VA Cane | March 18, 2010 at 09:39 PM

Hmmm PETA sure is a weird name for a scoutmaster haha j/k

on a sidenote the Big east looks iffy so far in the tourney for you "Big East is the SEC of College Basketball"....Down goes ND, Georgetown got waxed by (insert sarcastic font here)powerhouse Ohio, marquette is in a battle with UW and No way the refs were letting Villanova lose to RMU. Of course with 16 teams in the conference, they should find some good teams in it. This tourney is wide open.

He was cool with signing the shirts and easy to talk to (down to earth). Nice guy, good parents. CGNC met them at the ACC tourney back in 2008.

Posted by: 86Cane | March 18, 2010 at 03:51 PM

86 that's it. The b-ball team struggled this season because Susanna wasn't in the stands on her Momma McClinton gear going crazy! LOL

Chicago - how are your Blackhawks doing?

Philly - they just built a new building. That is about all I know. I was a finance major.

VA Cane

read your response to my OSU comment. You sir, are a gentleman and a scholar.

As a purist, 30 year coach, college DB and a huge Cane fan, there were some violations there, but really, in a game of that magnitude, unless it is REAL blatant, you let them go at it.The delay meant it was not blatant, TP was not sure. I would not have called it, but it is there, but ...Title game?
I hated that loss not because I thought we got ripped off, it was nip and tuck on the call, but how we lost. We just did not come to play, both lines were horrible, WM going down hurt...attitude and TOs killed us. Swagger got us that night, as it has in several other big bowls that had we played Cane Ball and won would have seen us with 10 NCs. I have moved on from that one, we got new fish to fry.

Also read your take on the Boy Scouts and fishing. As a moutain man and BS, I agree with you all the way. The Scouts are a way of life, pure Americana. I am all for PETA but let the Boys alone.

Good work on all fronts my friend, you make the U proud!! VA Cane

Hows there law school chicagocane?

Philly - you are right, Marquette is cold. Nice campus if you like the urban setting. Highly regarded school academically. If they only had a football team.....

you want to give credit to a coach for running a program with little to work with?

give this guy a ton of it

just think if both brown brothers were here and left the program. How bad would that look and coach randy it wouldnt even been his fault.they just cant cut it on real programs.go ahead and join the power house, tradition rich kansas state.Kirby schedule this school ASAP.

Thats if they don't get released from it, like they asked

Kirby is way ahead on this. They are on the schedule in 2011 and 2012 lol

We play KS on OCT 24 2011

How was Marquette as a school? Im looking to apply there for grad school. Fun? Really cold? campus size?

Brice follows in his brother's shockingly fast descent to anonymity:

Georgetown is seriously sh*ting the bed right now.

not cool.

The CFL must be in the plans for the next few years

Then a huge career in the NFL

Leading to a statue in Canton

ND hurt the bracket a little bit. Nova almost killed it.

Give a good Catholic prayer for my Marquette Golden Eagles (I am an alum) tonight.

They are going to have their hands full with Washington.

Those Kansas kids cant hang with the big boys lol

Not that anyone necessarily cares about Bryce Brown, but he is no longer in the Tennessee program per Feldman. Ha ha ha.

Got nothing to do this weekend? Go watch UM track and field in Coral Gables and watch the Men's 100m dash at 2:45 PM.

Grandal, who leads the team with a .522 on-base percentage, went 7-for-11 with a homer, three doubles and four runs scored in UM's three games against the Eagles.

Nine ACC teams to take part in post-season play ... Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Maryland and Wake Forest earn NCAA Tournament berths ... North Carolina, NC State and Virginia Tech selected to play in the NIT.

The ACC is the winningest conference in NCAA Tournament history ... league teams are a combined 338-170 (.665) in NCAA Tournament play and ACC teams have won 11 NCAA Men’s Basketball National titles, including four in the last nine years.

7-0 in the tournament

Although im sure it will end with a big fat thud

The best way to kick off the madness was to see Eddie Munster sulk his undeserving team off the court

my bracket looks very good so far, although ND didn't do me any favors.

just another reason to hate Notre Dame.

SOUP - I am all Canes football all the time, the tournament is fun, but in three weeks it wont matter

86 - I love the Racers

Sounds good SOUP.

Good night, and GO CANES!

My Bracket:

2nd Round: Kansas, Northern Iowa, Mich St., Maryland, Rocky Top, Hoyas, Okie St., Bucknuts, 'Cuse, Zags, Butler, Murray St., XMen, Pitt, Mormons, K-State, Kentucky, Texas, Owls, Wisky, Marq, New Mexico, Mizzou, West Virginia, Dookies, Cal, Texas A&M, Siena, Old Dominion, Baylor, Spiders, Nova

Regional Semis: Kansas, Maryland, Rocky Top, Bucknuts, 'Cuse, Butler, Pitt, K-State, Kentucky, Owls, New Mexico, West Virginia, Dookies, Siena, Baylor, Spiders

Regional Finals: Kansas, Bucknuts, 'Cuse, Pitt, Kentucky, New Mexico, Dookies, Baylor

Final Four: Kansas, Pitt, Kentucky, Baylor

Championship: Kansas, Kentucky

Winner winner chicken dinner: Kansas

The more upsets I pick, the more points I get, so I was going with more upsets than the logical picks

Shwarma....FOCUS MAN! It's NCAA tourney time. Recruiting is so NEXT YEAR!

SEC 0-2: UF and Vandy both lost.

The #4 Vandy loss was a BIG upset by #13 Murray State.

Ungar...the MORE U disagree with me the better. I don't have a clue about half of the things I say on here! LOL

It is true that baseball and basketball schedules have much more flexibility than football. I agree with U there.

But with next year I don't think you will see much change in how the basketball schedule shapes up. With Miami's tough ACC schedule late in the season they are always gonna schedule some easy wins early on to boost their W/L record and keep fans interested for as long as possible.

5-0 so far in my bracket

But I'm going to lose this St.Marys/Richmond game ..... this is one of the games I kept going back and forth on, esp. after I watched St.Mary's absolutely dismantle Gonzaga

Bg - Glad to see you were back. Since its never too early to talk about the next year and spring recruiting is heating up wanted your thoughts on a couple things
(and anyone else who has something to add)"

RB - Obviously its Wilder first and foremost, but who are the people to keep an eye on after

OL - What names are on the radar?

DL - I know Chickillo and have heard the sites talking about Maggitt (not for us just in general, but regardless Dwyer isn't a strong school for us) but who are the other guys there?

LB - I know Perryman is your boy, but what about Shazier (Rivals lists him at DL you think that's the case)?

CB - Heard plenty about Waisome and then it seems Crawford is on the radar given the latest Canespace article, any other CBs

S - Assume the local guys (Lyons, Cash, North, Gorman) are the candidates, correct?

PETA wants an outdoorsman group like the Boy Scouts to end their Fishing Merit Badge? Tough. Here are some of the things they do to earn that Merit Badge:
Explain to your counselor the injuries that could occur while fishing and the proper treatment, including cuts, scratches, puncture wounds, insect bites, hypothermia, dehydration, and heat reactions. Explain how to remove a hook that has lodged in your arm. Name and explain five safety practices you should always follow while fishing.

Learn and explain the differences between two types of fishing outfits. Point out and identify the parts of several types of rods and reels. Explain how and when each would be used. Review with your counselor how to care for this equipment.

Demonstrate the proper use of two different types of fishing equipment.

Demonstrate how to tie the following knots: clinch, palomar, turle, blood loop (barrel knot), and surgeon's loop. Explain how each knot is used and when to use it.

Name and identify five basic artificial lures and five natural baits and explain how to fish with them.
Explain why bait fish are not to be released.

Explain the importance of practicing Leave No Trace and how it positively affects fishing resources.

Give the regulations affecting game fishing where you live. Explain why they were adopted and what you accomplish by following those regulations.

Explain what good outdoor sportsmanlike behavior is and how it relates to fishermen. Tell how the Outdoor Code of the Boy Scouts of America relates to a fishing sports enthusiast, including the aspects of littering, trespassing, courteous behavior, and obeying fishing regulations.

Catch two different kinds of fish and identify them. Release at least one of them unharmed. Clean and cook another fish.
Boys have fished for MILLENNIUMS, but the Boy Scouts teach them how to fish CORRECTLY. Boy Scouts are a leading environmentalist group, working both for conservation and proper use of resources, so it's not like scouts are farming the oceans for thousands of fish and then throwing them on shore to waste and rot.

I wish them luck on fur coats, etc, but my sons learned catch and release from the Scouts, and about poisonous fish, and about HOW to cook a fish. They are just "fishing" for attention here...

Schedules are made YEARS in advance so very little will change for NEXT year.

Posted by: SOUP | March 18, 2010 at 02:48 PM

(Not sure what the rules are about disagreeing with the blog owner here....)

Soup, that is true in football, even when Miami was an Independent, as we know from the time it took to get the Gators on for 2013, and where the bulk of the schedule is usually owned by the conference, but in basketball, much less so. I can't believe that FGCU has a multiyear advance contract with us, for example. Haith himself pointed out that Cincinnati jumped out of their deal with us, set up last offseason, at the last minute and we added Pepperdine in their place. That must have been before August, when the Canes announced their schedule that already included Pepperdine:

I will say it this way, though. Even years in advance, they know that opening with Florida Southern and North Carolina Central are freebies. It isn't like when we had Houston in football just before the team tanked, it is a choice of teams that will NEVER be competitive against an ACC team. Instead of a team in the 300s historically, I would want teams in the 150s. Just sayin, I hope to see fewer Florida Southern and NC Central's on the schedule next year....

The McPimpin shirt is a keep sake. Gonna go up in the man cave once I get one

Posted by: moneycane | March 18, 2010 at 03:40 PM

Roger That! Funny when he was at UM he looked kinda thick but when I saw him at the game the night of the ceremony he looked much thinner and even taller if that's possible.

He was cool with signing the shirts and easy to talk to (down to earth). Nice guy, good parents. CGNC met them at the ACC tourney back in 2008.

Yeah 86 I've been really busy. Trying to write a thesis is no fun. Gotta gradumuate so I's can gets mys PhD.

The McPimpin shirt is a keep sake. Gonna go up in the man cave once I get one

Money...what's up? Long time no see, U busy? Time to wear your autographed "I know Jack" shirt!

i thought it was because we put so many kids into the NBA?

the U represents the NBA very well.

Posted by: Daytoncane | March 18, 2010 at 03:21 PM

It's because we have a super supportive fan base that lives in the present and that's not jaded in any way shape or form.

also, they come back to teach in the offseason. it's a huge reason why the U gets whatever kid they choose in recruiting.

FU loses in opening round in heartbreaking double OT... what a shame!

Gators lose, one and done!

I thought you would enjoy that.

U are such an antagonist. Cracks me up!

I wanna add that there's depth everywhere. A healthy Scott and some protection and we maybe lose a game all year.

i agree.

people just forgot that guys like Rick Barry and Darius Rice invented swagger.

Old Skool - that's funny what you said about not reading my posts b/c they'll take you places you'd rather not go

I used to get that a lot from chicks, from when I was in 4th grade up until just a few years ago (Miss Six just needs me to look at her and it's over). For some reason, I could talk them into doing pretty much anything

Ya man, the Scouts should adapt the shocker

I think Arizona State actually does that sign .. or at least that's what I see when they do it

Old Skool

Six I don't know why I read your posts. They often send me down tangents I'd rather not go.
Your latest got me thinking about new applications for the scout sign (three fingers together usually pointed straight up)

Guess Chad Henne better sleep with the front lights on........

Methinks an angry, smelly un-washed mob of br-ousins might be headed down I-95 South tonight.

i hope you still know that we're going undefeated in college basketball next year.

that wasn't a "real UM team" out there this past season, and plus we had a ton of injuries.

when these kids grow up they'll be unbeatable and teams will be afraid to put us on their schedule again.

just check out all the quotes from Haith in the paper. you can tell he has a plan and wants to win more than anybody. he's doing everything right.

i thought you would enjoy that.

Old Skool - mannnnn, ha, when I first read ASK THE BOY SCOUTS TO DE-MERIT FISHING

I think you know what I thought the "h" was

I'm down with the Imogen Bailey PETA ads that have her covering her bits with rabbits

Old Skool

Don't know where you find your photos Six but that one is creepy. It looks like someone addicted to meth and Viagra.

That photo is scary, six! Wow, I'm still laughing about it (I'm trying not to, really) :)

Old Skool

PETA is calling on the Boy Scouts of America to retire its "Fishing" and "Fish and Wildlife Management" merit badges. Fishing is no longer considered a benign activity. It is hunting in the water, and the idea of a scout armed with a gun or rod, setting out to actively attack animals who were minding their own business, is not in keeping with the image of scouting.

Hopefully, there'll be a nude protest ... maybe Bar Rafaeli in a squid bikini.

Gator still taking jive, Boyton got crossed up bad lol.

j.w. - ya, well, consider yourself lucky

I filled in for her this past Memorial Day here, that's when she was 9am-Noon. I just remember thinking, why does she have so many commercial breaks? I'd start to get talking and get on a roll, then the producer would motion me to go to break .... she has like 8 minute segments, then 3 minutes of commercials.

She's now been moved from Noon-3pm

I'd never seen her in person, until last year on a remote show that I co-hosted. Wow. I feel kinda bad for saying this, considering what she's been through - but man, she is anti-skinny ... I'm talking, big and waddley (if that's even a word)

She kinda reminded me of this guy:

But with sunglasses and not the Braveheart blue face paint

Like I said, I feel bad for saying that considering what she's been through, but I'm only reporting the truth

Ungar - hey brah, anything I can do to help the Canes win ha

Especially against ........ Fordham - eeesh

Good to see Harold Martinez worked on his defense from last year - or not. 5 errors in 16 games? Come on kid

Radio, six. LOl about the Blob! I haven't heard her in several years on our local stations.

j.w. - was that on the radio or on television?

I'm not in the car to hear Cowherd at the time he is on .. and I think he's actually not on in the Tampa area anymore b/c they moved The Fabulous Sports Blob into his time slot on the ESPN station b/c she (and I use "she" loosely) is on from 12-3pm

Posted by: Daytoncane | March 18, 2010 at 01:00 PM

lol, especially the Pitbull and Daddy Yankee reggaeton part. I bet the people of Haiti were overjoyed.

C'mon, BYU keep giving the gator jive

Vinny Testaverde is going to be on the staff and help the QBs at Jesuit High School here in Tampa

Must be nice

Lakewood Ranch High School just south of Tampa gets Ken Dorsey to help them and Jesuit in Tampa gets Vinny

Former Bucs and Jets Cornerback, Donnie Abraham, is the head coach at Gibbs High School in St.Pete

Nice to see these guys helping the kids out in that capacity

Six, just thanking you for yesterdays point that the Canes hadn't come back from behind in the last six innings all this year. You reverse jinxed it, and the Canes won last night in the bottom of the ninth.

Should have been a passed ball instead of a wild pitch though, catcher's fault instead of pitcher's fault, IMO.

For those gamers out there......God Of War III is less than 12 hours away from being released.

six- Cowherd described Tebow as a "Poor man's Vince Young" today. Young can be effective so the comparison may not be fair for Young, but I agree with his (and Henne's) sentiment.

canechic - I was watching all the raw video my guy shot yesterday up at work, with all the interviews ... he was still pissed about waiting for 2 hours and then later afterward, having to wait for the press conference

Mike Tomlin and Raheem Morris were hanging out together all day. They looked like they were just having fun ... then getting back to work ... then having fun ... then getting back to work

It probably wouldn't have been good if I was there, b/c I wouldn't have been too happy either, having to wait 2 hours later than scheduled .... I also probably would've said some things to Riley Cooper about the Canes/Crocs baseball game from last year with his dirty slide. I still can't let that go

I do like Joe Haden though. He's the only Croc I can stand. I'd love to have him on the Bucs. If the Bucs can't get Suh or McCoy - I'd rather have Suh - then in my fantasy football world, I'd hope they could trade down for a 2nd or 3rd round pick and get Joe Haden

Ya, I wouldn't mind having Eric Berry either, but, the Bucs have a need more at CB than Safety, to replace Ronde Barber and Haden fits the type of CB the Bucs need in their Tampa 2

You get em SIX!

Posted by: Aquaman | March 18, 2010 at 12:33 PM

i forgot how much the new version sucks. i wonder how appreciative Haiti is of our crappy music?

Ya, because Seneca Wallace turned out to be outstanding as a QB and/or WR for the Seahawks ... great pickup Holmgren, singing the praises of him being a winner as well at Iowa State and an athletic QB

- Started a total of 12 games in 5 years
- 76 yards receiving in 5 years
- 214 yards rushing in 5 years

And I don't ever want to hear ANY kind of comparison between Steve Young and this former Croc QB ... ya, they're both white QBs and that's about it ... if Holmgren does take him, simply b/c Holmgren worked with Young

Croc Pro Day yesterday up at The Puddle

All the players were out there at 10am, as scheduled

Except one

He didn't come out until 5 'til noon

I'll let you guess who made everyone wait for 2 hours

The sports guy we sent up there to cover it wasn't exactly happy yesterday - being at the station until 1:20am the night before, having to get up at 5:30am the morning of to go pick up the one of the other sports anchors at 6:20 ... then driving up to Gainesville to get there by 9am to see the guys warming up ... then shooting/interviewing players from 10am until 5 'til noon, having to wait for this certain player ... then filming him go through his workouts, then going to his press conference afterward

Ahh, such professionalism on that certain player's behalf, just one of the regular guys that comes out at 10am like they're supposed to .. right?

Funny, how many of the regular guys who came out on time to work out for the scouts and coaches and GMs - are going to be 1st or 2nd rounders. This guy who makes everyone wait until 2 hours later, maybe will sniff the 5th round if he's lucky and some team decides to put their money where their mouth is

Of course you always certain hear GMs or coaches say the right thing on camera "Someone is going to get a winner" ... "The kid just wins" ... "He's a hard worker, whoever gets him will be lucky" ... "I don't think there's anything wrong with him"

Oh yea? Alright. Talk is cheap jabronis. Go ahead and pick him in the first 4 rounds then if you really do believe the garbage that is falling out of your mouth in front of cameras

Mike Holmgren was there yesterday, he was nothing but a soundbite lovefest machine for this guy who came out 2 hours late. Well Mikey, you go ahead and make him the QB of the Browns then

Holmgren took Seneca Wallace in the 4th round back in 2003 with the Seahawks and just got Seneca to come to the Browns. Seneca was an athletic QB at Iowa State, could run/scramble and throw. You go ahead Mikey and take the guy yesterday who you were fawning over and make him your QB of the Browns

I was working in the Telemundo Building and heard this, it made me think of you:

carolina cane

Haith needs a little more depth of talent to compete with the upper crusters in the ACC and more than one consistant scorer. Miami not being a basketball school, doesn't help either.

Cat5, recovery or not the foreclosures are still going to happen because people still have their rates adjusting giving them mortgages that job or no job they would have a hard time paying. just would be a smaller number of people foreclosing if they all still had work...but might not be a much smaller number of a number. there are high foreclosure numbers in areas where a ton of jobs weren't lost.

Cat 5 Cane

I don't like any of the choices and wished you had "Other" as a category.

Faith in Haith... not so much, but the kids... Yeah, we might have something going here!

Looking forward to next year!

Florida News... Off Topic... Laugh or Cry?
Don't read, if not interested.

Estimated that 500,000 homes will be foreclosed on in Florida and of thoses, Miami is highest with 80,000 homes. Which is clogging the courts and delaying recovery.... recovery? That's laughable!

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- A Kissimmee man has been charged with child abuse for forcing a 6-year-old boy to kneel on bottle caps as punishment for misbehaving... Damn!!! What's crazy, is that under comments , one blogger is questioning the right of the state for stepping in!... LOL

Morning coffee News... I need a drink!

404..I agree and Randy said he didnt have ANY schollys left for ANYONE..I mean Anderson was a 5 Star player at a position of need and he had to get a track scholly.

So, it looks like there is more Faith in Shannon than Faith in Haith based on the poll results.

I feel that if they had scheduled a tougher early schedule, not grueling, but no 300-level teams either, they would have made it into the NIT. That phantom 15-1 start made folks shy away from bringing them in, IMO.

I am not sure if that is Haith's fault, but I recall him defending that easy Gator-like non-conference schedule. I would rather make these guys work to get better than to get glorified practices that end as 20 point "wins".

Let's see if next year's schedule gets tougher....

I'm not sure that Randy and co are still interested in this kid... Is this not the type of stuff that they have tried to stay away from???

bg..maybe there working out something with USC..like..what kind of car, house or job they will get lol

I figured something like this would happen. The longer it take.....U NEVER KNOW....
