How nice it would be to get still get paid your MLB salary of $11 Million for the year, after you're cut by the team ...

and playing slow pitch softball for a burger and beer joint

Eric Byrnes is the man

orange 'n green in the vein

Old Skool, I'm just wondering how they determined that being bisexual meant they weren't gay enough to compete in the gay tournament? Did they line up their sexual partners and then count what percentage were the same sex and what percentage weren't? Not to mention that a community so used to unfounded discrimination and fighting against that type of attitude would then turn around and engage in the very same type of behavior is just stunning to me.

Old Skool

Also, if you're wondering how they qualified for the Gay Softball Games. It was either by round robin or double elimination and in either case I don't want to know the particulars.

And who said that the "force was not necessary"? Ah right, the Governor who is saying the "right" thing according to how the wind is blowing

Who said that they saw nothing wrong with what the officer did?

Ah, the Commissioner of the Philadelphia Police Department ... MLB managers ... MLB players

The only thing the Phillies did, was say that they'll use their own security people instead of wasting cops time out there by having them chase people down

Old Skool

Here's your link to the soccer player getting a yellow card while dying of a heart attack.

haha thanks csm, i think ill take yours and canez1 advice and have a doctor do that for me

CaneSaw - just b/c Pennsylvania Governor (and former Philly mayor) Ed Rendell decided to turn into a eunuch about whether or not that kid should've been tasered .... that doesn't mean you were right. He's a politician, he's saying the "right" thing

He's not the one that is possibly in danger out there on the field. He's one of the ones sitting up in the stands or at home

I wonder what he would've said if he was out there to throw out the first pitch, and some guy jumped on the field and ran toward him .... security jumps the guy and tasers the guy. Wonder if he would've said it was the wrong thing to do then

When a couple of major league managers such as Joe Maddon and Bruce Bochy come out and say that they had no problem with it, with Maddon saying:

“I think it's important to try to get a guy to the ground. In a situation like [Philadelphia's], that will deter somebody from doing that again”

And Bochy saying: “You've got to do whatever you think is necessary to stop some of these fans," … "It's a wacko fan. I'm all for it.”

then I don't think too many people in MLB are against tasering the guy. In fact, has ANYONE heard from any MLB player or manager that has come out, denouncing what happened?

Ya, didn't think so

Like I said and everyone knows – Monica Seles (stabbed) ... Tom Gamboa (permanent hearing loss in ear from the 2 idiots that jumped him, hit him, kicked him – and had a pocket knife fall out of their pants) ... Bill Speirs (bloody nose and swollen eye) ... Randy Myers (attacked on mound, he took care of it himself with a forearm to the guy's face) ... Jimmy Piersall (attacked by two people in outfield, he laid one of them out with a punch and then chased the other one down that ran away, he and two of his teammates caught up to him and got some hits in)

The idiot kid that jumped on the field, even called his dad before it happened, asking permission from HIS DAD TO DO IT. His dad said it wasn’t a good idea .. the kid said, verbatim "This would be a once in a lifetime experience!". Ya, how’d that experience go for you idiot?

Commissioner Charles Ramsey reviewed the tape and felt the officer had acted within the department's guidelines

And what did the Commissioner say? "It was inappropriate for him to be out there on the field," Ramsey said. "Unless I read something to the contrary, that officer acted appropriately. I support him 100 percent."

And of course, you have a person from the ACLU step in, Mary Catherine Roper, saying "How long can he really run around out there?" Roper said of the fan. "In this situation, he's not dangerous, he's not getting away."

Ah, of course not. B/c she knew exactly what his intentions were and if he had any kind of weapon on him

And let’s go back to what the players or managers think – you know, the people who are actually on the field, unlike the political idiots trying to say the “right thing” or the ACLU idiot

Shane Victorino, Phillies CF - “If you're on the streets running away from a cop, doesn't that cop have a right to Tase you because you're fleeing from a cop? So what's the difference”

Tony LaRussa – “If somebody comes up there and does some damage, they're going to be second-guessing not doing anything," La Russa said. "I just think it's acceptable, because it's a good deterrent.”

The kid got what he deserved, and basically all of MLB and a whole hell of a lot of others in the nation believe so as well

PHilly you have the arabian swine bird lepuritis sphyllosis fungical conjunctivitus of the balls...

I'm grilling for Mothers Day for my wife and my mother in law, ( my mom in law is 86 yrs old and thinks a home cooked meal is more thoughtful than going out. squashing my planned eat- a- thon at the Cheesecake Factory.
I'm gonna try and pull off a really healthy tasty meal rather than the usual steak and shrimp dinner they are expecting.

The city of Philly said the force was excessive and concluded that Police will not be utilized for field runners unless asked to do so accordingly due to threat.

Bailey is a 1st Rd lock as long as he replicates his sack numbers and doesn't explode his ACL ....

They will love his combine numbers and for the fact that he could play DT in a 4-3 for pass rushing situations , 3-4 DE, and some 4-3 DE.. all of it

I'm calling it now barring injury pick #12 too..............

We'll never agree on that one, and nobody has concluded the officer was wrong, CSM. :) But I respect your opinion on this.
Solar- grapeseed oil has been around for a while out here (wineries, it works as well as anything and is tastier than standard vegetable oil. Olive oil is supposedly healthier for the heart, than any of the oils.

Six - ..... I think Philadelphia Gov't came out with a statement on the tasing issue..

Hmmmm looks like police will not be allowed to partake in field runner interactions unless authorized, and that the force that was used WAS NOT NECESSARY...

Hate to say I was right, but......

solar my brother none taken ;)

thx my man!

it had I was laughing so hard

^^^ see it even makes me talk like that

Capt O,
Now I'm down to 198 from 221 at Thanksgiving.
Still using you and Six's advice.

What do recommend I use as the cooking oil to make stir fry with?
Not for seasoning like sesame oil but for cooking.
I have used peanut oil, canola oil, and olive oil

A health conscience guy i talk with says people are using grape seed oil?

Is grape seed oil beneficial or just trendy?

yea Six had me rolling,
that shyt was in such bad taste it had I was laughing so hard I had to read it twice to make sure I didn't miss anything.

ungar goes online to pay his water bill, diks around and ends up making Lenny Kravitz's mortgage payment.

such is the life of a major sports list producer

New Era Pinstripe Bowl wtf.???

now the Yankees are going to make money off of college football too??

Captain Optimist aka Cavaleer

"Like i said, no way of telling who will win the fight".....

Like I said, you're BLIND. Pac is smaller AND slower than Floyd. He is Floyd's inferior MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY. Just watch the fights. Even his little southpaw style would be reduced to comedy against Pretty Boy.

Mosley would probably whoop his azz, truth be told.

Captain Optimist aka Cavaleer

SSIB, Mayweather would DESTROY Pac. Like I said, either you're blind or ignorant. I can tell by your tone you're just a hater. You sound like all those squads that the U abused back in the day. hahaha

You think Hoya's taken humbrage and it blinds his ability to analyze a fighter? GTFOH! lol

And you don't even know his notable fights. Gotti wasn't notable wtf are you smoking? Gotti was a bum.

Castillo got bounced just like the bigger Hoya. And since it seems clear that you didn't see the Hoya fight, he wasn't past it. He wasn't prime Hoya but he was still on point and full size.

None of them got dismantled like Mosley.

And if you seriously watched Clottey stand there like a punching bag YET STILL LEAVE PAC BRUISED AND SWOLLEN WTF DO YOU THINK WOULD HAPPEN TO HIM AGAINST PRETTY BOY?

And Pac knows it. He should just take his azz on home with his tail between his legs and help his people before Floyd destroys his azz in front of the world.

no offense

blow me

and congratulations on the new home brudda!

Bowl schedule out, is it just me or is this just getting worse ever year? now the title game is on Jan. 10?

orange 'n green in the vein

Oh, and almost forgot:

Six, that Corrine Brown, "interview," had me ROTFLMFAO for all the wrong reasons.

orange 'n green in the vein

Ungar, the Canespace tail-gaiting house will make it's money back selling the naming rights in about five months I figure. Landshark Tailgating Central presented by Canespace.com anybody?

orange 'n green in the vein

Wow, where to start:

The soccer player who gets carded for diving while dying? Is that real?

The bi-guys who were deemed not "gay enough," to compete in an all gay league? WTF? How do you quantify that to begin with?

LT with jailbait and her pimp delivering her for the deed? Man the world really is coming to an end in a hurry. Hurricanes better win the back-to-back in 2010-11 or else I'm never going to see it happen before we're all gone.

Makes me wish Bigelow had shot on his buddy in the main event of Wrestlemania XI.

Not to get all political, but I love the Constitution and I want my rights, so a fat public servant shouldn't be taking tax dollars to taze anybody IMO. I'm also very concerned about the treatment that the 9-11 truth movement is being subjected to, as misguided and wrong as they may (or may not for all I know) be about that particular fact of history. It's a very dangerous slippery slope I see this country on right now in regards to our enumerated rights.

umm, the i and the o are right next to each other, so those last-second bods are only last-second bids. Sorry to get anyone's hopes up acc'o'dentally.

Wait, people are buying houses?

I thought that stopped in 2006?

BTW, serious question (yes, 86, it is offtopic, but it isn't politics, I think)

Have any of you used the new computerized foreclosure auctions that they run for Miami Dade? That is sweet. Easy to understand, no bullies like live auctions had, sniping is impossible because last-second bods rest the clock at 1 minute, 100 dollar increments on bids, and they plow through about 200 a day.

I accidentally hit that while paying my water bill, and it made me tempted to jump in. This is not a sales pitch, this is just a "WOW" they are selling 400K homes for 80K.

I really want to know if any of you have used it and if it is worth doing. I figure that with google earth I can view the home and the neighborhood of a house up for auction next week. Then, but a bid and see if I get lucky.

Which brings me to the interesting (ie non-serious) part of the equation: Canespace has 500K lying around doing nothing. There are homes near Sun Life (see how I tie it in to this article?) that are selling for 50K.

Can you say Tailgate Warehouse?

Paint the house Orange and Green, get a "U" weather vane, and mark your territory!

Lawrebce Taylor arrested for raping a 16yo girl..wow

Thanks CG!

Closed Monday but should be in and done by Sat.

MTV actuially called yesterday!! LMAO!!

I'll keep you updated GF.

Canez1 - congrats - you must have closed on the house?! Wow are we going to see it on MTV Cribs????

Not gay enough....

What is this world coming to.

It's pretty cut and dry if you ask me LOL

Chin music!! LMFAO!!!

Old Skool

Pitch, catch, bush league
Good stuff
Don't forget
Hardball, corked bats, spit balls, choking up on the bat, chin music, taking one high and inside, double play, double header, pop up.

Let's see, Old Skool, if this one can slip past the sensors:

They can pitch and they can catch, but they are too bush league for the Gay Softball World Series!

(Yes, that is two bush jokes in two days, but CMON!)

Old Skool

In other news ...
Three bisexual men have filed a federal lawsuit against a national gay-sports organization, claiming they were unfairly deemed 'not gay enough' to play for a gay softball team during the Gay Softball World Series.

All the one liners running through my head right now and none would pass Soup's muster.

CG whats up my love?

I am moving to the new crib all this week so it's been hectic to say the least.

Tired and sore!!

Hate moving!

ungar - your emails have been classic recently. you've been a good post truth/jellow queen addition to this blog.
you remind me somewhat of a blogger i enjoyed on sentinel a couple years back when i still read that blog - called "m.h."

Posted by: autumn | May 05, 2010 at 04:30 PM

Flattering praise. I believe MH is a good guy, but I haven't seen him anywhere for a while. His sense of humor was old-fashioned and dry, which works well in writing. During the Canespace discussion on banned folks, he was listed as "Pending receipt of admissions letter".

I might not be a Top 50 Fabulous Floridian, but I got someone to like my stuff. I am a happy man.

I loves me a Christmas miracle....

Posted by: Canez1 | May 06, 2010 at 01:13 PM

Still laughing at that one

Posted by: aqua | May 05, 2010 at 08:35 PM

I think we better post the congratulatory speech by Corrine Brown with subtitles, in case anyone didn't understand ... well, hell, basically everyone didn't understand what she was saying

Corrine Brown

- Bachelor of Science from FAMU

- Masters Degree and Education Specialist Degree from University of Florida

- Honorary Doctor of Law Degree from Edward Waters College

The best is this article in which the author describes Corrine Brown as "assaulting grammar"

We'll be fine this year as long as we stay healthy. If we don't win 10+ games and ACC this year it will be a definite disappointment.

I actually understand and agree with Mac on this one.

A christmas miracle LOL!!

Love me some Mac....

macjones de Albuquerque

Their track times are verifiable too. I think we just have some AHTLETIC FREAKS right now.

Posted by: bg1906 | May 06, 2010 at 12:45 PM

Well then bg1906, these Hurricane GENETIC FREAKS better prove it on the bloody field, as well as scoreboard this season! Otherwise, the Cane family will be harping ' but ATHLETIC FREAKS, again, next season.

U'all dig! No. Well, I bloody didn't think so! LMAO

bg1906...do U thinkthat those forty times posted by the insider appear to be HYPER inflated by him or by UM?

4.2, 4.3 even 4.4 speed is not very common.

Posted by: SOUP | May 05, 2010 at 10:23 PM

I used to think so but now no. They run consistent to their reported times at the Pro Days and Combines. In fact at the combine, Baby J ran faster than Shawnbrey McNeil even though we know at a distance greater than 40 yds, Shawnbrey is MUCH faster than Baby J. Their track times are verifiable too. I think we just have some AHTLETIC FREAKS right now.

VA Cane

Hello all!! I have some great news about tickets I have. Recently I have connected with one of my best friends from childhood. We played in Springfield Boys Club sandlot football when we were 9, wow 41 years ago. His dad was military from Ohio, went to West Point, etc. John went into the Air Force, was a fighter pilot, Blue Angel, big time guy. Me...just an old college football player, real estate appraiser and football coach for 30 years. Anyway, he located my parents, and with Dad being a Ohio boy from long ago...he has seasons ticks for OSU...yea you got it we talked, got to sports, Canes football came up, and I will be sitting right in the middle of the OSU boosters pulling for the Canes!!! How is that for fate luck destiny...man I am hyped.

I hope we will hold up our end of the bargain. This is a second season with a tough gauntlet to run right off the top....I do not see a NC this year...but we need to have a breakout year: need ACC title, big bowl win to be legitimate again. Anything else will bring out the haters and naysayers. Go Canes!!

Canes...I found upper deck tickets for $165 a peice..uppder deck on visitors side, but I didnt buy them yet....my friend who im going with is a OSU fan is who I a going with, hes a member of my church, he has family who are alumni and get tickets they dont use, so were doing to first see if we can get those. If I didnt have this wedding and lawsuit going on I would of got better tix, but like you said, I just want to be in the house.

Fighting Ibis

I would also throw Bosher into that mix as well along with Harris. Good call Brownsub and Solar. Are there others I missed?

Posted by: SOUP | May 06, 2010 at 08:23 AM

Byrd, Bailey, Telemaque, Olivier, Spence?

Mike thats awesome!!!

Going to be a great time.

As long as you are in the house that is all that matters.

The $$ for tickets to this is going to get crazy!! Glad you already scooped yours up. Seems like a pretty big joint so hopefully there is a good view from all seats.

I like to sit higher up actually but too high is another story.

I have always wanted to see a game at the big house so I can now scratch that off my list.

We will plot the weekend out once we get a little closer.

Now we have to get the grill man Raise locked and loaded and we are in good shape.

Canez1....looking more and more like ima be in at the OSU game with you..although Ima have some upper deck seats lol

Whenever someone starts a post with "no offense" you can pretty much bank it there is going to be "some offense"

And I don't put much into what the media spews out these days.

Look at the ACC queen herself Heather Dimwit.

That bytch don't know shyte.

Not to mention all the other crap the national media throws out there with little to no actual research.

They recycle what other people write and add a few misconceptions and rumors into the mix and there you have it.

Pure filler...

no offense

I think the Boxing Writers Association, and Ring Magazine, and ESPN all have more knowledge and understanding of boxing than you do.

Manny Pacquiao Named Boxer of the Decade,
Boxer of The Year

The prestigious Boxing Writers Association of America have named pound-for-pound king and Filipino boxing hero Manny Pacquiao as the 2009 “Fighter of the Year” and capped the choice by also naming the superstar of the sport as the “Fighter of the Decade” effectively silencing the few who have dared to slander him and question his achievements in the ring by alleging he is on performance enhancing drugs without providing a shred of evidence.

Pacquiao was earlier named "Fighter of the Year" for 2009 by both Ring Magazine and ESPN.

Pacquiao continued his sensational winning streak by scoring a devastating 2nd round knockout over IBO light welterweight champion Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton last May following on his pulverization of Oscar De La Hoya in eight rounds in December 2008 and then capped his run with a pounding of Miguel Cotto to win the WBO welterweight title by a 12th round TKO last November

In the process Pacquiao won a record-breaking seven world titles in seven different weight divisions and has emerged as a genuine contender for the unofficial accolade of the “Greatest Fighter of All-Time” alongside such illustrious boxers as Sugar Ray Robinson and Muhammad Ali.

It is Pacquiao’s third “Fighter of the Year” award in the last four years and he is expected to receive his award at the 85th annual banquet of the BWAA in New York on June 11, the eve of the celebration of Philippine Independence Day.

Pacquiao won the award in the balloting by members of the BWAA over the other nominees – heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko, Andre Ward, Paul Williams and Arthur Abraham.

The charismatic southpaw who is admired for his speed and power in the ring and his humility both in and out of the ring also beat a roster of great fighters to win the BWAA vote for “Fighter of the Decade” including Bernard Hopkins, Joe Calzaghe, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Shane Mosley, Juan Manuel Marquez and Marco Antonio Barrera.

His record during the decade was 24-1-2 with his only loss being a twelve round unanimous decision setback in his first clash with Mexican legend Erik” El Terrible” Morales on March 19, 2005 when a nasty gash over his eye suffered in an accidental clash of heads in round five gushed blood and hampered his vision. However, Pacquiao avenged that loss to Morales twice- over with a 10th round TKO victory in a rematch on January 21, 2006 and a 3rd round annihilation in the last bout of an epic trilogy on November 18, 2006.

His unmatched performance earned him the Ring Magazine title of pound-for-pound king even as Pacquiao emerged as a box office sensation with the entire Filipino nation behind him as the country came to a virtual standstill, communist rebels and Muslim separatists stopped engaging government forces and police reported hardly any crimes committed. .

Pacquiao’s celebrated trainer Freddie Roach who honed his skills and steered him to his second world title in his US debut when he won the IBF super bantamweight title with a smashing sixth round stoppage of Lelohonolo Ledwaba will win his fourth “Trainer of the Year” award named in honor of the late Eddie Futch who at one time trained Roach and later on taught him the skills as his assistant trainer. Roach previously won the award in 2003, 2006 and 2008.

WBC lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez, who continues to challenge Pacquiao to a third fight after salvaging a draw in their first encounter and losing the rematch by a split decision, will share the Muhammad Ali-Joe Frazier award for “Fight of the Year” with Juan Diaz for their action-packed fight which Marquez won by a ninth round stoppage in Diaz’ hometown of Houston, Texas on February 28 last year.

Other awardees include ESPN’s Joe Tessitore, the “Friday Night Fight’s longtime commentator who was chosen as the Sam Taub awardee for excellence in broadcast journalism; sports columnist Jerry Izenberg of the Neward Star Ledger who will receive the John Condon award for long and meritorious service to boxing; Hall of Fame boxer, the late Alexis Arguello of Nicaragua who won world championships in three weight classes will receive the Marvin Kohn “Good Guy Award” posthumously. He died under tragic circumstances in July last year at the age of 57.

Arguello and the late Gabriel “Flash” Elorde of the Philippines were named the best junior lightweights in the world at the 20th anniversary celebrations of the World Boxing Council in New York.

• Showtime broadcaster Nick Charles who battling cancer and former heavyweight contender George Chuvalo of Canada will share the Bill Crawford award for courage in overcoming adversity. Two of Chuvalo's sons died from drug overdoses and a third son, as well as his first wife, committed suicide, and now he speaks to high school students about drug use.

The Nat Fleischer award for excellence in boxing journalism, the highest award the BWAA presents to one of its members, has not been announced yet. Balloting for the lifetime achievement award is ongoing. It is voted on only by past winners while this year the BWAA members voted against naming a manager of the year

Sniper...yeah we came up ONLY $37M short. Maybe after five more years?

I would also throw Bosher into that mix as well along with Harris. Good call Brownsub and Solar. Are there others I missed?

You forgot B. Harris!

Posted by: Brownsub | May 06, 2010 at 01:21 AM

Tru dat! He appears to be a mature (mentally and physically) person.

The rest are wannabees.

Brandon Harris and Matt Bosher are never gonna be considered wannabees by me

"Sun Life out bid Canespace by 37 million"

That got a big laugh to start my day.

Sean Spence is a Beast!!!

Like i said, no way of telling who will win the fight, but go ahead and pick Mayweather all you want, that is your free will, if Pac lose, i give all the credits in the world to Mayweather, up until then, he is not the greatest boxer in the world, he is not better than Robinson and Ali like he proclaimed himself to be, His past fights are not very impressive, his notable fights were against tszyu, gotti, and de la hoya, all past their primes, and others were with castillo and judah who were not supposed to be in the same class as Mayweather, but we both know Castillo gave him all the troubles, and lastly was Mosley which rocked him in the 2nd, but Mayweather being the tactician knew how to adjust.

Sean Spence is a Beast!!!

For anyone still entertaining any delusional thoughts about Manny Pacquiao being in the sam league as Pretty Boy Floyd, please read these words from Oscar de la Hoya after the Mayweather-Mosley fight.

Posted by: Captain Optimist aka Cavaleer | May 06, 2010 at 12:41 AM

You mean the same de la hoya who was delusional to think he could still step in in the ring and bully a smaller man in Pac and got dominated the entire 8 rounds before quitting????

You mean the same de la hoya who tried to sue Pac for backing out with his contract with Golden boy and decided to stay with rival promoter Top ranks???

You mean the same de la hoya who pretty much said Pac is the greatest p4p boxer ever even including Mayweather in the category when Floyd retired because he didn't wanna blemish his 40-0 record???

You mean the same de la hoya who fixed up a fight between Floyd and Marquez when they could have tried to make the Manny fight right away and instead went for a tune up fight first b'coz pretty Floyd was retired for 2 years and is all rusty did not wanna risk getting beat right away???

You mean the same de la hoya who could've made a fight between top welters at the time fight Floyd and instead throw himself out there just to make the cash????

You mean the same de la hoya who is now accusing Pac of taking roids and blaming it on that reason instead of admitting he was already washed up???

Yeah i would listen to this guy who surely makes millions of dollars for his company
and obviously will say whatever it takes to hype up his client, the guy sure knows what he is saying!

Sean Spence is a Beast!!!

Has anyone read this yet???

Chick-fil-a's president is interested in make it happen, and Hocutt is expressing some interest, i hope it goes through.

Nice vid Sling, I forgot how much the defense kept us in that game.

Not so much...

You forgot B. Harris!

Playa..The Blogger Formerly Known as Rashad

I agree with you Soup. I'd really love to see Hank, and Colin step up too become leaders of the team this year. Just not sure if its in thier personality to do so.

Captain Optimist aka Cavaleer

For anyone still entertaining any delusional thoughts about Manny Pacquiao being in the sam league as Pretty Boy Floyd, please read these words from Oscar de la Hoya after the Mayweather-Mosley fight.

LAS VEGAS -- Oscar De La Hoya couldn't help but be impressed by the complete and total domination by Floyd Mayweather of his business partner and two-time conqueror, Shane Mosley, before a raucous crowd of 15,117 Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Not only did Mayweather win all but a combined four rounds on the three judges' cards, but the smaller man survived a rough moment in the second round where he was staggered by a right hand, only to turn the tables and come as close to knocking out Mosley as anyone has during the WBA welterweight champion's career.

During the post-fight press conference packed with members of the media, De La Hoya spent a full seven minutes during which he did not mince words or hold back on the superlatives while praising Mayweather's performance.

"Tonight convinced me. I have to say the truth. It convinced me that he is the best. Possibly, and there's obviously a lot of people who can argue this, but he's possibly the best of all time. Mayweather has the skills to beat anybody," said De La Hoya, whose Golden Boy Promotions employs Mosley and also promoted the event.

"Floyd Mayweather has the talent, and he has the work ethic. And all over the world, people are becoming fans of the talent that he possesses," said De La Hoya. "You really have to commend him for that. He fought a fighter in Shane Mosley that was supposed to be the most dangerous fight of his career. And Mayweather showed us why he's the best."

The 33-year-old Mayweather won going away against the 38-year-old Mosley (46-6, 39 knockouts), who earned a guaranteed $7 million to Mayweather's non-heavyweight record $22.5 million guaranteed purse.

Mayweather was facing the largest and most athletic opponent of his career, even as he maintained prior to the fight that Mosley would simply end up like every one of his previous rivals: befuddled by his defense and fighting for his own survival against Mayweather's underrated punching power.

"Floyd Mayweather showed me, when he was hurt, he showed his true greatness," said De La Hoya. "I felt that he was going to go down, and that he was going to not be able to handle Mosely's punching power. But he just showed true greatness and showed what he's all about."

Mayweather won on the cards of Adalaide Byrd and Dave Moretti by the score of 119-109, and on that of Robert Hoyle 118-110.

FanHouse had it for Mayweather, 119-109 for total punches, 85-to-46 in jabs and 123-to-46 in power punches.

"All of the hard work and the work ethic that he has, it just shows you that Mayweather is the real deal," said De La Hoya. "I'm a firm and true believer that Mayweather is the best that we have now."

De La Hoya was twice a loser to Mosley, who dethroned him as WBC welterweight champion by split-decision in June 2000, and then dethroned De La Hoya as WBC and WBA junior middleweight titlist by unanimous decision in September 2003.

De La Hoya outweighed Mayweather 154-to-150 in May 2007 when Mayweather defeated him by split-decision.

Prior to Saturday night's bout, De La Hoya and Mosley had gone over a scouting report on how Mosley could come up with the means with which to defeat Mayweather, but to no avail.

"We went over combinations, we went over jabs. I don't know if people saw my fight with Mayweather, but when I was landing jabs -- Whew! It's not the key to beating Mayweather, but it was working. You know? Until my left shoulder went out on me and until my back went out on me and I grew old overnight after that sixth round, you know?" said De La Hoya.

"I think that the jab is like a lost art. I could probably say that I had a pretty good jab. I went over it with Mosley, like, 'Jab, you have to jab.' And you don't get lazy on him, because he feints you," said De La Hoya.

"But we didn't see that Mosley tonight. Not the Mosley that we're used to seeing. And it has a lot to do with Floyd Mayweather's abilities," said De La Hoya. "We can't come up with excuses and this and that. Mosley had a rival in front of him and, hey, he lost against a better man."

Mosley fanned the flames for the matchup in September when he interrupted Mayweather's post-fight, in-the-ring interview to call him out on the microphone following Mayweather's lopsided, unanimous decision over Juan Manuel Marquez that ended a 21-month ring absence for the unbeaten fighter.

Mosley's last fight was in January 2009, when he dethroned Antonio Margarito as WBA king with a ninth-round knockout, stopping Margarito for the first time in the his career.

Prior to facing Margarito, Mosley had scored a 12th-round knockout of former world champion Ricardo Mayorga up at 154 pounds to rebound from a November 2007 loss to Miguel Cotto, a man Margarito knocked out in the 11th round in July 2008.

Cotto was dethroned in November by seven-division champion Manny Pacquiao (51-3-2, 38 knockouts), who knocked out Cotto in the 12th round.

A winner of 12 straight fights, including eight by knockout, Pacquiao also stopped De La Hoya in the eighth round in December 2008.

Negotiations for a potential bout between Pacquiao and Mayweather dissolved over drug-testing issues, making it possible for Mayweather-Mosley to be slated.

Mosley, who admitted to unknowingly using steroids in 2003, agreed at the behest of Mayweather that both fighters have their blood and urine randomly tested by the United States Anti-Doping Agency.

De La Hoya was asked who would win between Pacquiao and Mayweather.

"I did fight all three of them. Shane Mosley, Pacquiao and Mayweather. I have to be truthful with you. Mayweather is on a different level. He's on a different level because he's a student of the game. He will dissect you outside the ring and finish you off inside of the ring. He knows how to get into your head, and he knows how to beat you, mentally," said De La Hoya.

"Mayweather knows how to beat you physically. And, yes, he can wait for you to make mistakes and be a student of the game. Pacquiao makes many mistakes. That will fall into Mayweather's hands with no problems. He'll make it easy," said De La Hoya. "It'll be an entertaining fight, let me tell you, because there is no stopping Pacquiao. There's no quit in Pacquiao, and that's for sure. So we feel that a fight with Pacquiao and Mayweather would be, obviously, a very interesting fight."

De La Hoya said that he was a better fighter when he faced Mayweather than he was when he fought Pacquiao, for whom he claims to have been weakened after having had to lose weight to compete at a catchweight of 145 pounds.

"Manny Pacquiao is a great fighter, and I'll never, ever disrespect his abilities. But when I fought Mayweather and when I fought Pacquiao, obviously, it was a different Oscar. I mean, night and day. I was obviously more prepared for Mayweather. I was on my weight and I wasn't drained, and I wasn't a zombie in other words like I was against Pacquiao," said De La Hoya.

"Mosley beat me twice. Mayweather beat the guy who beat me twice. The Mayweather style is a hard defense to break," said De La Hoya. "Like Mayweather says, 41 people have tried, and 41 people have failed. I appreciate what he's all about now after tonight."

What would it take to make Mayweather-Pacquiao happen?

"As far as I'm concerned, Mayweather is the one to dictate, Floyd Mayweather is the king of the world now. So, we all know that from watching 24/7 that the USADA drug testing and what it did for the sport. The respect that it brought to boxing," said De La Hoya.

"We know that all fighters can be clean and are clean because of what they showed on 24/7," said De La Hoya. "As long as we can keep on doing that, if fighters can agree to all of that, then we have fights, and we can make fights. But if they're not going to agree to it, then how can we make fights?"

As for Mayweather, "I have to tell you that Mayweather is by far, the best."

"The world now loves him because a lot of the fans realize that we're looking at something special. Mayweather is special. So we have to respect that," said De La Hoya.

"You know, we have a lot of fighters in our era who are good fighters and they come and go," said De La Hoya. "But special fighters, special boxers like Mayweather, we talk about them forever."

What was your take on what Kirk Herbstriet had to say about the Canes, being immature and acting like they have swagger, but they dont?

Posted by: Playa..The Blogger Formerly Known as Rashad | May 05, 2010 at 10:32 PM

I'd like to argue but I can't.

Sure they are young. But that's not it.

The only MEN on this team appear to be Berry, Hank, Franklin, Bailey, Spence and McCarthy. The rest are wannabees.

Jacory with his "look" that involves an ugly azz goatee and wierd hair styles?

Not so much...

Too bad Dr.Uribe couldn't have worked on CJ Spiller to screw up his toe ... instead, little Uribe gets coverage mixed up and kicked the ball right to Spiller - where he took it 90 yards for a TD

And racked up 310 all purpose yards in that game as well

Fighting Ibis

That's big news to UM fans, all our players get worked on by Dr. Uribe.

Posted by: CanesAddiction | May 05, 2010 at 11:20 PM

Didn't Frank Gore get worked on by Uribe? How many countless others that Uribe has done great work on?

And people wonder why our healthcare is expensive? Sue, sue ,sue!

That post from Vette about the development of our players this spring is a great write up. Does anybody know if he's related to or is friends with current players?

Our 1st string of receivers this year i going to be down right nasty. We all saw what kind of a season Berry was having despite having all the blocking down. Mike James was solid. Lamar Miller is the #2 back? This offense is going to put up some points. Even Patrick Nix's offense got better from year 1 to year 2. I'm thinking Whipple is going to unleash a monster.

If our O-line is ready and someone steps up at TE lookout!

I'm not even worried about our defense except at MLB. Our D-line is going to make the rest of D stand out this year.

We also have Hopfinger who will most likely take over for kickoffs. It's going to be tough for offenses if they have to drive the field all game long.

Here's a story of note:

OJ McDuffie won $11.5M from Dr. John Uribe for malpractice involving the toe injury that ended OJ's career.

That's big news to UM fans, all our players get worked on by Dr. Uribe.

mr troutman

i guess this is what the offseason looks like ...along with people being on facebook, twitter , tagged , political bloggs etc. Canespace will get better once Aug roll around when milliions of fans will be yearning for some football and what the team looks like.. For now i'll see you all later...peace!!!!

Did Kenny Dorsey, Jeremy Shockey, Brett Romberg, Clinton Portis, Lamar Thomas or Horace Copeland ever strike anyone as being real mature during their Cane days?

Thats come and gone, just be yourself, and play to the best of your ability week in and week out, is the mindset id like to hear.

I agree with you, these kids are the next era not the era before the last era.

They are Randy's players, not some coach from 25 or 30 years ago. They need to establish their own "style" for the kids watching them in high school right now to want to be part of.

IDK about the swagger part, but he was right on with the lack of maturity.

Not that it takes a rocket scientist to realize that a team led by soph's lacks maturity...but yes I agreed w/ him.

You guys see the Herald write up on UM's interest in Bridgewater? Not really news to anyone but I believe Teddy is a "must get" for Randy and it will finally shut up the people out there (like myself) who complain that he lets too much of the best S. FL talent go to other schools.

Nobodies with no lives, that everyone ignores in everyday life perceive activities like running on the field to be quick no cost ways to achieve the fame that they are too lazy work for.

Fantasizing that the fans will react with admiration at his bravado gets him onto the field. He is flirting with disaster and everyone loves him is his misguided train of thought.

A few seconds into the episode it dawns on him he is just a pawn out there.

The fans are reacting to the humor of the event security's Keystone Cop like foot chase, not the bravery of the trespasser.
He has fked up, and no one cares, now he panics realizing he is in deep ka ka.

Then the inevitable happens, he gets his ticket punched by a player, or security brings him down.

What happens next it should be defendant, police, and a team representatives business only.

No highlights, replays, opinions or anything else.
ESPN, and all the other ratings hungry news shows should handle it for what it is, 15 seconds of game delay with no bearing on the final score.

A single sentence on air " A fan was arrested for trespassing on the playing field during a game last night" would take a lot of the glamor out of this shyt.

If it isn't tasers I wouldn't mind seeing some really fast attack dogs working out for 10 or 15 seconds.

it will probably turn out the government planted the guy in the stands and staged the entire event to get our minds off the insignificant oil spill Obama caused.

Playa..The Blogger Formerly Known as Rashad

I personally cant disagree with him...I just feel the Canes of today are putting way too much pressure on themselves on trying to bring back the "old swag". Thats come and gone, just be yourself, and play to the best of your ability week in and week out, is the mindset id like to hear.

Playa..The Blogger Formerly Known as Rashad

What was your take on what Kirk Herbstriet had to say about the Canes, being immature and acting like they have swagger, but they dont.???

bg1906...do U thinkthat those forty times posted by the insider appear to be HYPER inflated by him or by UM?

4.2, 4.3 even 4.4 speed is not very common.

my whole point about the tasing, and I can't believe you said. "if they jump on the field whatever".

Posted by: CaneSawMassacre | May 05, 2010 at 08:48 PM

I'm with Canez1 on the tasing issue: "Hell more people should get tased. I can think of two or three just off the top of my head."

Heck, there is at least two times where I can recall that I should have been tased. And that's just in the last year or so.

Tase me bro'...I'm jus sayin'.

CaneSaw - it's nothing like saying a cop should shoot someone for speeding. Dude, where do you get that from?

Did you not get the examples or see the hazards of some nutjob jumping onto the field of play?

- 1993, Monica Seles got STABBED

- 2002, Tom Gamboa, 1st Base Coach for the Royals attacked by a father & son combo who jumped onto the field and knocked him down, started kicking and punching him - a knife fell out of one of their pockets - and Gamboa suffered permanent hearing loss from getting hit in the ear. The idiot father bragged to his sister earlier in the day that he was going to get on television

- 1999, Bill Spiers attacked by a fan who jumped on the field, ran over and jumped on him, gave him a bloody nose and eye

- 1995, Randy Meyers was on the mound and gave up a pinch hit bomb to James Mouton. When Mouton was running around the bases, some idiot fan jumped onto the field and rushed the mound. The fan started to reach in his pocket and Meyers dropped his dumbass with a forearm, then held him on the ground

- 1961, Jimmy Piersall was in the outfield at Yankee stadium, two idiots jumped onto the field and ran at him, trying to attack him. Piersall laid one of them out with a punch, the other chickensh*t idiot who jumped on the field, turned and ran, Piersall chased him down and got a kick in on him, then a couple of Piersall's teammates Johnny Temple and Walt Bond ran out there and got in some good hits

Want some MLB people's reaction to what happened to that idiot that got tasered? B/c they're the ones out there on the field, not you, so I think it's safe to say that their opinion matters a hell of a lot more than yours

Joe Maddon - "Fans should not be on the field. It can be scary, because you just don't know what a guy might do," Rays manager Joe Maddon said. "I think it's important to try to get a guy to the ground. In a situation like [Philadelphia's], that will deter somebody from doing that again."

Bruce Bochy - "You've got to do whatever you think is necessary to stop some of these fans," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "It's a wacko fan. I'm all for it."

Cliff Lee, Mariners P - "You never know what their intentions are," Lee said. "They have probably been drinking, or maybe have taken drugs. You don't know what they are going to do."

Laynce Nix, Reds OF - "To be honest, I kind of wish somebody would come out for me. I would take pleasure in taking care of him, but I feel safe with the security."

How about, not being a dumbass and jumping onto the field? You get what you deserve for doing it. And you know about incidents in the past that aren't going to bode well for you in the security/cops decision, if you do decide to be an idiot and jump on the field

These players, coaches, security/cops have no idea what these people's intentions are that jump on the field. Do you? Also, if you know you might get your ass tasered now, isn't that a pretty good deterrent from doing it?

Nice vid bro.

Thanks bg. Not trying to look the gift horse in the mouth, but are you sure about the insider status of your source? I remember him from years ago on a different board.

He's been proven pretty reliable.

my whole point about the tasing, and I can't believe you said. "if they jump on the field whatever"..

Was that jumping on the field or streaking is a known idiotic thing.. your examples are rare occurences..

That is like saying a cop should shoot everytime somebody is pulled over for speeding.. NOOOOO

just being their friend for 50 years probably said more than anything you could have come up with.

Goran Tunjic, a 32-year-old Croatian soccer player, was penalized as he died from a heart attack during a game, according to Eurosport.

The web site reports that a referee imposed a yellow-card diving penalty on the dying athlete as he collapsed to the ground. When the official discovered that Tunjic was suffering a legitimate medical crisis, he reportedly called for medical help.

I'd love to interview Corrine Brown on what she thinks about this year's Gata team

(Me) Rep. Corrine Brown, what's your take on Coach Urban Meyer and what he can do with the Gators this year after Tim Tebow and some major players on the defense left?

Dey didn't have Percy Harvey last yeeea, and I think dat might have hurt dem. But let me be cleaya, the Gatas still did good. I'd also like to gradulate Tim TiVo and the other Gata playas in gettin drafted. Go Gata."

(Me) Rep. Brown, how you think the ah-fence gon do wit John Brantlee at quarterback

(Rep. Corrine Brown) "I think dat wit Corch Irvin Meyers guy-dance, dat John Brantlee and the ah-fence will do a good job. They probly going to make it back to the national chammmionship. They probly also gonna set a sangle season reckod for points scored with dat ah-fence"
