Your University of Miami baseball team earned the No. 1 seed in the Coral Gables Regional, one of 16 Regional tournaments that are part of the 2010 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship.
The Hurricanes will host the following teams at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field June 4-7: Texas A&M, Dartmouth and crosstown rival Florida International.
Miami (40-17) will face Dartmouth (26-17) in the regional's second game at 4 p.m. on Friday following the 12 p.m. match-up between Texas A&M (40-19-1) and FIU (36-23).
The best part for Hurricane fans across the Country is that the entire Coral Gables Regional will be shown live on ESPNU, with games at 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The Hurricanes earned an at-large bid from the NCAA while Dartmouth is in the field as the automatic qualifier out of the Ivy League. Texas A&M is the automatic qualifier as the champion of the Big XII tournament and FIU earned a bid as the champion of the Sun Belt Tournament.
The ACC tied the Pac-10 and SEC for most teams selected for the tournament with eight teams chosen from each conference as part of the 64 team field.
Ticket packages for the entire Coral Gables Regional are $90 for field box, $60 for chairback, $45 for adult general admission and $30 for youth, seniors and students. Those packages will go on sale at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
Single day passes go on sale later this week.
Tickets can be purchased beginning on Tuesday, June 1. To order tickets visit www,hurricanesports.com or call 305-284-CANE or 1-800-GO-CANES. The UM ticket office will be open Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
UM has advanced to the College World Series 18 of the 22 times it has hosted a regional. Miami holds an all-time record of 76-11 (.874) in NCAA Regional play at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field. This marks the 12th time in head coach Jim Morris' 17 years at Miami that the Hurricanes have played host to a regional.
Now if only Miami can get starting pitcher Eric Erickson back from injury and the UM bullpen can hold up, maybe we can have some fun in Coral Gables?
GO CANES!
Andre Johnson and Storm Johnson come to mind as guys that can run pretty swiftly while looking like football players.
Aldarius Johnson not so much.

Let's play coach!
What would be your pitching rotation for the regional...
Tournament Schedule My choices...
Friday, June 4
Game 1 - Dartmouth vs. Miami, 4 p.m. Jason Santana
Saturday, June 5
Game 2 - Assuming it will be Texas A&M vs. Miami 4 p.m. Chris Hernandez
Sunday, June 6
David Gutierrez
Monday, June 7
If necessary, 7 p.m
Eric Whaley
If ever we have to play the ultimate game i prefer to have Whaley as the starter than Santana....Erickson is not coming back this year.

Chris Perez (Canes pitcher drafted 2006) came in to pitch for the Indians today against the Yankees ...

Then the next guy he faced, Robbie Cano, hit a bomb to deep right

From tomahawk nation.....
The 2010 Heisman Trophy Odds are out and the boys in Vegas have pegged Christian Ponder with the 11th-best odds (tied with 4 other players).
Mark Ingram 350
Terrelle Pryor 500
Ryan Mallett 1000
Case Keenum 1200
Dion Lewis 1200
Jacory Harris 1200
John Clay 1200
Noel Devine 1200
Jake Locker 1200
Evan Royster 1200
Christian Ponder 1500
Andrew Luck 1500
DeMarco Murray 1500
Kellen Moore 1500
Ingram (defending champion), Pryor (Nat'l Champ contender), Mallett (ridiculous numbers and draft stock), Keenum (video game numbers), Lewis (potentially on a 10-win team), Clay (five thousand rushing attempts), and Devine (highlight tape) all make sense.
Harris led the country in interceptions last season (17). That would be quite the jump for the disappointing Junior from Miami. Locker won't get an invite because he plays for a Washington Huskies team that'll lose a minimum of 4 games and because his numbers and supporting cast are not very good. Royster won't get an invite because he isn't a special back, doesn't put up great numbers, and plays on a Penn State team that is projected to finish 5th in the Big 10. And it's difficult for a running back to win.
Ponder sound probably be in the group of seven tied for 4th. I don't understand how Kellen Moore is tied for 11th. He'll put up video-game numbers once again against a tissue paper schedule and the Broncos will once again be in the BCS by virtue of playing that schedule. I'd expect Moore's odds to quickly change as bettors quickly correct that error.

Hurridave
It all depends on what the Big 12 and then The Big 10 do.
If The big 12 goes to 16 teams like they are planning to The SEC says they will go to 16 right away with FSU, Miami being two of teams being first invited.
By the time the Big 12 gets done;
Remember there is a lot involved with hijacking schools out of conferences,
and the SEC old timers try and boycott change It will be close a decade before any of this is happening as far as Miami in my opinion.
They are already saying the penalties imposed to leave conferences to join a super conference are going to be severe.

Posted by: autumn | June 01, 2010 at 07:48 AM
If the big ten had a competive conference They would have never talked about having to expand and started all this.
Then The Big 12 which is a young conference already, is wanting to be a super conference
Then you have the SEC that wants to own college football's every dollar jumping in.
Posted by: solarcane | June 01, 2010 at 07:55 AM
off to work
Man if Miami GT and FSU do bolt to the SEC,
The ACC might as well retire the Football trophy in VT's trophy case for the next 20 years.
Posted by: solarcane | June 01, 2010 at 07:57 AM
The question is: Does the SEC REALLY want Miami?
Or do they want:
GT (to match with GA),
Clemson (to match with SC)
And the pairing of UNC and NCST?
Those are all more natural fits into the SEC than Miami or possibly FSU.
If The SEC goes to 16 teams and steals those four from the ACC then does the ACC and Big East join to make their own Super Conference?

Old news for Dolphins fans...
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Dolphins Legend Zach Thomas Retires
May 27th, 2010
Dolphins great " Zach Thomas" retired today at a 4 o’clock press conference.
Thomas signed a one day contract worth $1 so he could retire as a Fin.
“To have him retire as a Miami Dolphin, that’s special. Zach will always be viewed as an iconic figure for the Miami Dolphins,” said General Manager Jeff Ireland, who quickly accepted Thomas’ request on Wednesday to sign a ceremonial deal. “What Zach has been able to accomplish, who he is, is a great example to every player on this team.”
Thomas was one of a kind as an NFL linebacker
Zach was a fan favorite among pretty much all Dolphins fans, and will be missed greatly. He had everything that fans want in a player, and he showed it on the field.
He was simply one of those blue collar guys that gives his all, and throughout his 12 year tenure in Miami, there was not one single down that Zach did not give his absolute all.
Zach finished his career with 1,720 tackles, 20.5 sacks, 17 interceptions (four for touchdowns), 15 forced fumbles and eight fumble recoveries. The team’s 1996 fifth-round pick led the team in tackles in 10 of his 12 seasons in Miami and reached the 100-tackle plateau in all but one season.
Thomas amassed all of these great stats as the aforementioned 5th round pick, as a guy that was “too short, and too slow” to do anything great like he accomplished in his career. He was the classic underdog, and like most underdogs, he came away victorious with the feats that he accomplished throughout his career. You should be proud of yourself, you deserve it after all of the hard work you have done for not only yourself, but for the Miami Dolphins organization as well.
Thomas will be missed in the NFL, and will go down in history as one of the Dolphins all-time greats.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Which brings me to my posting of ZZZZZ.
The little guy with heart, that was just too small to play at MLB... drafted 5th tier, that became one of the most ferocious football players to have played the game for 12 years as a Dolphin....
Was garage hopping yesterday, looking for fishing gear and ran into a "Zack Thomas" Football Jersey (New, I say, New Condition), for a fiver. Got me smiling as I talked to the owner and he asks the question... He's no longer on the team, is he?... as I said yeah, he's been gone, as I shook my head in disbelief !!!
It goes without saying... It made my day, like a trophy fish, after fishing all day on the deep blue!!!!

Just your average holiday in the Keys...
Having fun, but Ya-gotta know your limits.
Miami man dies while spearfishing in the Keys.
By CAMMY CLARK
[email protected]
A 24-year-old Miami man died Monday afternoon while free diving and spearfishing about five miles off shore of Bahia Honda State Park in the Florida Keys, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said.
The man was on a private vessel with two friends, a man and a woman, also from Miami. The two men shot a grouper and were trying to get it into the boat.
The male friend told deputies they repeatedly dove to the sea bottom, about 35 feet deep and without the aid of scuba gear, to try to get the injured fish out of some rocks.
The male friend said he saw the victim surface, and that he appeared to be fine. But when the male friend surfaced again, he couldn't find his friend. He dove again and found him not breathing at the bottom.
The two friends pulled the victim into the boat, called 911 and began CPR...

My thoughts... How many times can one look back in time and say... Man, I was lucky that day!
To the good life and being able to say I did it!

what up spacers.....whats all this talk about Miami going to the SEC? Do you remember what they said when we moved to the ACC? The road to a championship would be alot harder and they were right. Can you imagine what they would say if we really did join the SEC?? Personally, I wouldn't mind. I get tired about hearing how the SEC is the best league...so it would be nice to be part of that group.

I don't understand the title:
"Regional Renews Rivalry", we had a rivalry with Dartmouth? TAMU? FIU?
Just saying.
As for Miami joining the SEC, I am all for it after the ACC ignored their rules by letting FSU bypass us for the Gator Bowl even though we were ranked higher, had the better record, and had beaten them head to head.
The ACC has not fulfilled their side of the bargain, so I will feel no guilt in leaving them behind.
However, I would only do it if we are in the same division as the Gators. Forcing them to play us on our good years too instead of cherry-picking our rebuilding years would be a good thing.
And we ARE the REAL southeast, these northwestern people like Alabama and Tennessee are the wannabe southeasterners. 8-)

I was watching some HBO sports show last night, Greg Bryant is a douchebag, and they had this story of this kid who was born without arms past the elbows or legs past the knees.
Didn't stop him though as he was a wrestler and even played some youth football, was a d linemen. Amazing story and the kid has the best attitude in the world, wants to climb mt everest some day.
His name is Kyle Manard and he owns a gym in northern georgia, might be in your neck of the woods. He named the gym, No Excuses, very good story.
Posted by: DZ8 | June 01, 2010 at 01:55 PM
TAMU is a tough #2 team to have in our bracket.
I noticed that UF was given a free ride with no ranked teams in their bracket.
But since they lost to two unranked teams in their regional, maybe that is a good thing.
And FSU, despite being ranked 10th and winning the ACC Tournament, doesn't get a regional, and could have been sent down the street to UF, but instead goes to Connecticut against three freebie teams.
So, UM will have the toughest of the three brackets, but all three should make it to the superregionals.

U'all Cane fandom dig. No. Well, I didn't believe so. LOL
Seriously though, like the Big Apple, the metro SoFla area is way too " cosmopolitan " for all those backwater towns in the S.E.C to tolerate.
In other words, Miami is an international city. Just like NYC. And both cities happen to have locals whom dig sports albeit the burroughs of NYC favor professional sports.
