UM scheduled home football games with lower-division Bethune Cookman in 2011 and '12, giving it seven home games in '11 -- something some other schools do. The other non-conference games booked in '11: Ohio State, Kansas State and at South Florida. In '12: USF, at Kansas State and likely Notre Dame in Chicago (with a home-and-home with the Irish in 2016 and '17).

I guess I should consider myself old now - I can remember the dad of the Oklahoma Sooner 3Basemen playing for the Rangers when I was a kid .. Steve Buechele

So, what do I do? Is this the time where I go buy a sports car and blare hair band rock from the speakers, like "Cherry Pie" by Warrant? Go buy some Drakkar Noir or Jovan Musk and bathe in it? Talk about how if coach would've put me in during a certain game in high school, that we would've won the state championship?

Posted by: Six | June 22, 2010 at 11:23 PM

In addition, you gotta buy that enlargement, listen to "Glory Days" by Springsteen, and the sports car NEEDS to be a convertable so you can go to Jimmy Buffet concerts with a young hottie like that blonde from the Just For Men commercial (You know, "No Play For Mr. Gray").

Unless you are married, then you just say "Yes Dear" when she says no to all of the above.

Then you build up a playlist with "Cherry Pie", "Cherry Bomb", "Walk This Way", "Whole Lotta Rosie", "Rock You Like A Hurricane" (you are a Canes fan after all), "Boys Are Back", "Shattered", "Me So Horny", "Pour Some Sugar On Me", "Dead Or Alive", "Welcome To The Jungle", "Mony Mony", "I Wanna Rock", "Girls Girls Girls", "You Gotta Fight For Your Right To Party", "Enter Sandman", etc. to play on your headphones to remind yourself when you had testosterone and control over your own life.

You can borrow my copy, I checked with my wife and she says it's okay with her. 8-)

Will that Carnivale be anything like THIS Carnivale?

I asked my wife if I could go to this, and she said "No". Good thing I'm not whipped....

Oh wait, they kicked it to the wrong team.

Algeria/Albania/Austria/whatever they are is kicking the ball....
Oh wait, they kicked it to the wrong team.

But wait, the Albino player has fallen, and is rolling around on the ground like his leg was severed at the knee. Ahh, the ref says play on. The Armadillo player springs up magically healed and chases after the play.

Go USA, just don't make me sit through 3 hours of this, please.....

Heartbreaking Breaking News!

Marlins FINALLY fire Fredi Gonzalez!

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/florida-marlins/fl-fredi-gonzalez-fired-0624-20100623,0,2471749.story

Edwin Rodriguez (who?) will take over, likely for a smaller salary than Fredi, who took over for a smaller salary than Girardi, who took over for a smaller salary than McKeon.

Rays fans, here is your chance to replace Maddon!

canesteeler

Ungar, Freddie will be the manager for the Braves next year.

Ungar

We can only hope.... 8-)

Fredi is no Girardi.

If he cannot handle Hanley, cannot handle a bullpen, and cannot handle his own assistants, how is he gonna handle stepping in for a legend, with high-paid players looking down on him and assistants that will feel they are more qualified to manage than he is.

Braves take Fredi for anything other than third base coach, it will be a big mistake by them, IMO.

Great post. I am missing hockey and football!

Philly - now that hockey season is over, and you have had enough time to get over a Finals loss, remember that the Pens Are Your Daddy! LOL!!!

DON’T PRINT THAT

Pssst: When heralded football signee Seantrel Henderson out of Cretin-Derham Hall didn’t show up as scheduled last week for orientation at the University of Southern California, new coach Lane Kiffin, recruiting coordinator Ed Orgeron, offensive line coach James Cregg and defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin took a private jet to the Twin Cities on Monday to make sure the giant-sized left tackle still was committed to the Trojans.

In the wake of NCAA penalties to USC that include no bowl appearances for the next two seasons, as well as the loss of 30 scholarships over the next three years, there has been conjecture that Henderson has reconsidered his commitment to USC and that Miami and Ohio State could be back in the hunt.

Henderson played about a half of a basketball game in the Howard Pulley league Tuesday night. Henderson, who is 6-foot-8, said he’s up to 350 pounds. He refused to discuss his status with USC.

Reached earlier Tuesday, Henderson’s father, Sean, had no comment.

Ahh, they had played at the same time as the USA game. Glad to hear it.

Two 1-0 snoozefests for england and USA to get past the slovenly and the algae-covered teams.

Glad I was at work instead...

DZ8

I just watched the USA game, not the England one, and it was a perfect example of why soccer isn't big in America. Though the final score was 1-0 it was not a snooze fest. My dog is getting the hang of it and just goes to her crate when I'm watching an intense sporting event (she ran all the way upsatirs a couple of years ago when Sean Spence had that pick six against FSU a couple of years ago!) It was an epic game and I know, it was just 1-0. Thats soccer, or futbol;)

Ungar - this music montage is exactly what guys dream up in their head, when they start feeling older ... they think out of nowhere, some hair band music will blast with a hot chick walking toward them

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nF4dmqlh720

I was never a fan of "Rock You Like A Hurricane", "Welcome To The Jungle", "Mony Mony", or "You Gotta Fight For Your Right"

And as a die hard hurricanes fan, I will admit (even if it is considered blasphemy) that I can't stand "Rock You Like A Hurricane" ... how that song is supposed to pump anyone up, I have no idea

When I hear it, I think of Joe Dirt looking rednecks with amazing mullets, sitting at an airshow while the A-10 Warthogs fly above them when they're sitting in the stands .. and them standing up, making the "rock on" symbol in one hand and trying not to spill their beer in the other

Wasn't a big Metallica fan either

I did blow out a lot of speakers with some Ministry though ... but I dunno if that would qualify with the mid life crisis playlist, ha

elliott

The difference in US soccer and say South American Futbol, is simple "dribbling and technique". Watch Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Robinho or Kaka and you are going to see great technique and footwork. The problem we have here is we are not properly taught how to effectively dribble at a young age and we generally focus on shooting, midfielding, defending, etc... It might sound absolutely insane that I am saying this but in reality kids in Brazil, Argentina, England and Italy play soccer from like age 4 and on. That is all they play and know is soccer. They might dribble a ball around 10 to 15 hours a day and the way they play it is so dependent upon footwork. Unless we start implementing more on footwork in the USA starting in the youth leagues then we will never get to that upper tier in Soccer. However, we are improving and for that I am proud of. Just not where we need to be yet in terms of developing young talent here in the US.

DZ8

Our two best "dribblers", Dempsey and Donovan grew up playing with Latin Americans in Texas and California.

Old Skool

There's also a certain mentality that goes with soccer. When I lived in England, I got invited to go play a game or two. I knew the rules, but I had no technique. What I did have was a football mentality which was basically kill the guy with the ball. That translated into running through and over people and way more sliding tackles than necessary. There's no way I was going to play offense. They stuck me on the back line.

I had fun, but I wasn't invited back.

Mexican immigrants, DZ. I have said the same thing myself, but my Friends from La Raza always correct me. :)

From Tom Jicha in the Sun-Sentinel

Congratulations to North Korea on winning the World Cup and becoming new world champions of soccer.

That’s what’s being reported on North Korean TV. To see for yourself, punch this up: http://www.yapfiles.ru/show/103979/347aad7cb28100e6f76c6ccac74da071.flv.html

North Koreans–those who can afford a TV–were treated to video of their team’s match with Brazil. It was edited to make a a 2-1 Brazil victory appear as if North Korea won in a rout to the delight of 40,000 delirious countrymen. They were actually Chinese actors, because North Korea does not allow its people to leave the country. No one would return.

Sebastian

Ok, so Fredi is now gone

So for those that wanted Maddon as manager feel free to try and work something out

Maybe a Maddon, Pena, Navi and Wade Davis straight up for Josh Johnson

Thank you for helping us out

The Rays will then hire Donnie Baseball as their next manager

In the real world im looking at Ozzie Guillen being the next manager of the Marlins

Old Skool

Latin American immigrants... try calling someone from El Salvador or Honduras a Mexican. Just like calling a Persian or Kurd an Arab. You won't worry about what La Raza thinks much longer... Don't get me started on, "The Race". :)

Ungar

I did blow out a lot of speakers with some Ministry though ... but I dunno if that would qualify with the mid life crisis playlist, ha

Posted by: Six | June 23, 2010 at 02:45 PM

Hmmm, Ministry? Then you must also enjoy Rancid and Slipknot. Six, I take it you don't go to monster truck shows either....

Dr. Ungar's prescription for suddenly feeling old is a dose of Guitar Hero 3.

1. You feel current by playing on a current system.
2. You feel young by rocking out to tunes that are similar to your 80s hair bands, but are current.
3. You don't have to worry about your wife telling you to stop, because you are spending "quality time" with your kids.

And solar, you are OOOOOLLLLLDDDDD! I guess you couldn't get a copy of the Andrews Sisters on CD, eh? I gotta look up some of your songs on that list, but Warren Zevon is a personal favorite. I was a big fan of Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner, for example.

Radar Love > Running on Empty though.

I hear that they have digitally remastered both of Lawrence Welk's hits, you should pick that up. 8-)

(Bob Marley, RIP, Rohan Marley was what made me get that old feeling the first time, so I understand where you are coming from.)

In the real world im looking at Ozzie Guillen being the next manager of the Marlins

Posted by: Sebastian57 | June 23, 2010 at 03:58 PM

Never gonna happen.

1. Loria doesn't like managers with backbone, and Guillen has too much backbone.

2. Loria doesn't like managers with experience (that would cost him money), and Guillen has too much expensive experience.

I would love it though, that would get the fans into it, just to see what happened with Guillen each night....
