Cock-a-Doodle-Do..........

As far as I'm concerned, if we don't at least PLAY in the ACC title game, Team Shannon is officially "Behind Schedule."
Not gonna use the F word.........But "behind" is a fair enough word.
The only loophole being if we didn't go because we went 10-2 and VT was like 11-1, or something like that.

raizecane

Mornin BG-----u ready to purchase that nice new 360 slim??

shwarma

Phin - That's fair but it has less to do with overall record in the ACC so the only way I think it's ok is if we have one conference loss and VT none

WE AIN'T GONNA NEED NO STINKIN' LOOP HOLE!

SOUP

It's as simple as this:

Canesteeler goes to the Pitt game.

Canesteeler does NOT go GT or any other ACC away game.

UM wins ACC hands down, no question.

Canesteeler...it's ALL on U!

any one know where to get 2002 rosebowl gear?

I tastefully agree with SOUP......

We win em all, we win it all...........

Executed by firing squad..... GANGSTA!!!

GO CANEZ!!!!!

Clwtrdan

Isee our season hinging on how well our offensive line play turns out to be. With the exception of Franklin, nobody else either stands out or is a poor player. All can get the job done most of the time. Given how even most of them are I am hoping we can 'outfresh' the opposing defense by rotating fresh players in and out.We always seem to find a TE that gets it done for us and someone will step up in the fall. When Davon Johnson sits the pine and he's that far down on the PT list, you know we are totally loaded at WR. RB's? LOADED. DL? LOADED. Here's hoping Buchanon or Green or the kid from Tampa/Alaska can produce at LB. Secondary? Solid but not fantastic. Can you say turnovers?

Canez1 - isn't it a little early for you to be lining up the firing squad??? LOL!!!!!

Canez1

LOL never too early!!

GO CANEZ!!!!!

Games are won in the trenches. Gotta get rid of the 30+ sacks. Remember when Dorsey could simply hang his jersey back on the hanger cause it was so clean? Yea, that's what we need.

360 I would'nt hold my breathe on that lol

One of a kind team.

I will take a solid OL with the skill guys we have now.

That will do the job :)

GO CANEZ!!!!!

I think everyone agrees and knows that the O-Line is going to be the "weakness" this year

Everyone on here .. Boss Man Shannon .. Jacory .. Stoutland

I'm not sold on just b/c (fill in the blank player) got some reps in a couple of games last year, that he should be good to go. Nope, screw that. Potential shown by one or two b/c they got into one or two games out of entire season doesn't mean anything to me right now. The O-Line better be on a damn mission to protect Jacory, like he is their little sister, dropped into the middle of a large all-male prison with no guards .... and he looks like Scarlett Johansson

This untested O-Line doesn't block, it's ovah

Six

Who do we have ..

Figueroa, Franklin the beast, Gunn, Horn, Washington, Jones, Johnson, Wheeler, Bunche, McDermott ... Plein and White maybe?

A lot rests on the play of these kids. Everyone expects an ACC Champ and possibly further with this squad

zarokon

Fig,Franklin are solid starters. Horn,Jones,Bunche are are unproven players...smh. everything else seems solid. but jacory needs some time to throw. 34 sacks is not gonna help along with all the qb pressures...

Six

WHERE IS CLEVELAND COUNTY NORTH CACKACLACKA? I'm moving there just for the comedic value if there are hillbillies like this guy ...

Priceless quotes from the man:

"This thang was 10 foot tall .... he had bewtiful hare"

"I come out 'chere .. and rough talked him and run him off"

"And I said git away from here .. Git! .. Git! ... and he went right back up dat path again"

"He looked like he had six fangers on each hand"

Old Skool

All right another draw.

US comes back to tie Slovenia from 2 down and the game ends in a draw.

USA remain undefeated and unvictorious.

Just how populous is mighty Slovenia. Add Boca to Broward County and that should do it.

Six - Cleveland County is home to the booming metropolis of Shelby, NC. You would never make it there - HA!

PhillyCane

Thanks CG! I've been looking all around. U know how nowadays when a team wins a NC ESPN will have the commercial for the t shirt and commemerative book or whatever. Well thats kindof what i was looking for like the t-shirt but im not sure if they were doing that then.

Cant wait to order mine after they win it all after this year!!

CGNC

U R welcome! Philly they had that back then, because I had the hat, sweatshirt and mug (forgot the mug whenI moved here). You will just have to hunt for it.

R u over the Flyers loss? Not as painful when they go out in the 2nd round. Hurts more when that close!

Unbeaten Miami flogged Nebraska early and often to win an undisputed national title

By Austin Murphy

Question: How do you shut up 70,000 scarlet-clad Nebraska fans?

Answer: Start the game.

There wasn't a lot of drama in Thursday's national championship game between Miami and Nebraska at the Rose Bowl, but then, that's what happens when you send a microchip to do a man's job. The Cornhuskers were invited to the national title game despite the fact that their buns still ached from a 62-36 butt-kicking administered at Colorado on Nov. 23. Nebraska didn't exactly vindicate the BCS computers' faith in it. Somehow managing not to laugh at the Huskers' misbegotten attempts to cover their receivers one-on-one, the Hurricanes jumped out to a 34-0, second-quarter lead and cruised from there to a 37-14 victory.

Thus Miami earned its fifth national championship since 1983, its first since '91. In doing so, the Hurricanes restored order to college football, providing a tidy conclusion to a season that might have ended in a contentious mess.

Just curious: If we were to take up a collection on Canespace how much would it cost us to keep U at home for the GT game?

By Stewart Mandel, CNNSI.com

PASADENA, Calif. -- Miami kicked Nebraska’s butt Thursday, and you could hear the shouts from Eugene, Ore., before the smoke even cleared from the pregame show.

Nebraska never should have been there in the first place!

Hey, people … zip it already!

In the end, it didn’t matter who lined up on the Rose Bowl’s other sideline. In fact there probably didn’t need to be one. The Rose Bowl people could have used it to display the floats, or store Regis Philbin’s hair gel, or stick the remaining 37 Nebraska residents who weren’t already in the stands.

Because Miami was national champion before it ever got on the plane to come eat beef and visit Disneyland. The bowl game became just another chance to show off the things they’d done all season, and not Oregon, not Colorado, maybe not the Cincinnati Bengals could have changed that.

“Whether or not a matchup with anyone else would have been different, I don’t know,” said Nebraska coach Frank Solich. “I think anyone would have struggled with them playing at the top of their game like they were tonight, but that’s for others to decide.”

The ‘Canes led the Huskers 34-0 at halftime, and it would have seemed stunning if not for the fact Miami outscored its opponents 273-33 in the first half its other 11 games

Miami scored 10 defensive touchdowns and a safety during the regular season, then added another score in the first half Thursday night. Does anyone really think Oregon would have avoided the same fate?

Miami’s 6-foot-6 beast of a tight end, Jeremy Shockey, burned opponents for 10 touchdowns during the season and added another against Nebraska. Unless the Ducks had been hiding a 7-footer they could slide into the secondary, here’s guessing Shockey would have done the same to them.

And whether you’re Oregon or Ohio, there’s very little you can do when Clinton Portis cuts right harder than an L.A. driver running late for yoga -- like he did on a 39-yard touchdown early in the second quarter.

It was quick and it was subtle, but as Portis dodged his last tackler and began his home-free sprint into the end zone, the guy who had handed it off, the superstar of a quarterback who makes this well-oiled machine of a team click, raised his arm in the air and made the “No. 1.”

The Hurricanes' fifth national championship may have been the program's most rewarding. No longer were these Canes looked at as the bad boys of college football. A veteran senior class that had endured the shame of a losing season in 1997 and had rebuilt the program - inside and out, led this team. Miami returned to the top in 2001 by showing character, class and poise.

How good was this team? Many argue it may have been the school's best ever. A strong statement, but one that has some factual backing. This team beat opponents by the largest average margin in UM history (33.2 points per game), produced the largest two-game whippings of any pair of ranked teams in history by defeating Syracuse and Washington by a combined 124-7, set a new UM record for scoring and featured a defense that scored eight touchdowns and led the nation in pass defense, scoring defense and turnover margin.

Throw in a kicking game that featured one of the nation's finest punters and a placekicker that led the nation in field goals and it's hard to argue against the 2001 edition. An astounding seven Hurricanes were named to at least one All-America team's first unit. Six players were finalists for national awards, led by Outland Trophy winner Bryant McKinnie at offensive tackle and Maxwell Award winning quarterback Ken Dorsey.

The 2001 Hurricanes could be a scary bunch when clicking on all cylinders. And they were for much of the season. They started with a stunning rout of Penn State on the road before the largest crowd (109,313) ever to see a Miami game. They ended Florida State's 54-game unbeaten streak in Tallahassee with a resounding 49-27 whipping. Then Miami fought off challenges from Boston College and Virginia Tech on the road, holding it together in situations that would have broken most teams.

The stars were numerous. On offense: quarterback Ken Dorsey, tailback Clinton Portis (1,200 yards rushing), tight end Jeremy Shockey, an offensive line that allowed an incredibly low two sacks by the starting unit, a receivers corps led by Andre Johnson, a defensive line in which nine players could play without losing a step and led by William Joseph, a linebacker corps that developed into a force and a secondary that was the nation's best, led by safety Edward Reed and cornerbacks Mike Rumph and Phillip Buchanon.

The power of this team was evident for all to see in its Rose Bowl rout of Nebraska for the national title. Miami roared to a 34-0 halftime lead, erasing any doubts about what team was college football's best in 2001.
