Last year University of Miami football fans were left uttering the same familiar phrase heard at every other ACC school in 2009 except ACC champion Georgia Tech : "Next year will be our year."
Well, don't look now but "next year" is almost here.
The 2010 football season will start in about 80 days and according to Captain Optimist the word on the street is that your Miami Hurricanes are going to win their first Atlantic Coast Conference title. That's right 2010 is going to be our year to finally win the conference and wear the ACC football crown.
When Miami wins the title it will be only the second conference championship in a major sport for UM since joining the ACC in 2004 (Miami won the ACC title in baseball in 2008).
After dominating the Big East Conference during their tenure there, the University of Miami has struggled to achieve such lofty accomplishments in the much tougher and more competitive ACC.
Here is a brief history of the ACC as we know it (NOTE: The ACC is subject to change with major conference realignment currently in progress):
After adding Miami and Virginia Tech to the conference in 2004, the Atlantic Coast Conference welcomed Boston College in 2005 as its 12th member institution.
With the expanded conference, the ACC created two divisions, the Atlantic and Coastal, and pitted the champions of each in the Inaugural Atlantic Coast Conference Championship Game on December 3, 2005 in Jacksonville, Florida. Each year, the championship game determines the Conference Champion as well as the recipient of the ACC’s automatic berth into the Bowl Championship Series.
Florida State of the Atlantic Division defeated Virginia Tech from the Coastal in the inaugural championship game. The Atlantic captured the title again in 2006 with Wake Forest defeating Georgia Tech in a rain soaked 9-6 victory.
The following two years saw the Coastal Division take the trophy with Virginia Tech defeating Boston College in both 2007 and 2008. In 2009, Georgia Tech of the Coastal Division captured their first outright ACC Championship since 1990 by defeating Clemson 39-34.
So if you have been keeping track, since the ACC football championship game was first played in 2005, Virginia Tech, Boston College and Georgia Tech have all played in the title game at least twice and the Hokies (2) and Yellow Jackets have won titles along with the Seminoles and the Demon Deacons.
Miami has yet to play in or win the ACC football championship.
But that is all going to change in 2010.
Captain Optimist told me so.
And I believe him too.

sbeas13...this is NOT from Canesport but another source: It was rumored that Ego Ferguson was NOT going to LSU after all and that he is now enrolled at a junior college and that he is interested in UM and UM in him.
No facts, just rumors but could be true. I'm jus sayin'...
Posted by: SOUP | June 19, 2010 at 10:58 AM
Sling.
No need to friend him. His wall is public.

USA.
4 sure man. I'll probably have a Cane party or 2. Especially for Ohio State and FSU. We'll get up.
Posted by: bg1906 | June 19, 2010 at 11:18 AM
Recruiting never stops.
Let me be clear. I love all the players who have signed with The U. I'm glad they're here and wish them nothing but the best. But this is exactly why you should try and save a couple of schollys' each year. If Seantrell can't get into USC I don't think he'd be able to get into Miami, same with Ego and LSU. But the strategy is still valid.
Once again I am very happy with all the players Miami signed, wish them nothing but the best, etc...
Heck, I even rooted for Lorenzo Booker once the Dolphins drafted him. Just put the uniform on and you have my loyalty!

I'm still undecided with Channing Crowder however, lol;)
Posted by: DZ8 | June 19, 2010 at 11:21 AM
I hate Channing Crowder. Ever since he slammed his girlfriends face into a computer monitor and got a "1 game suspension" that was later postponed when the patsy they were supposed to play next got postponed due to a hurricane and the next game was Tennessee. Crowder represents all that is foul with the Gator program.
Posted by: CaneSniper | June 19, 2010 at 11:43 AM
He was also the gator who gave Willie Williams the tour of the campus... and only then later was it reported that Willie was letting off fire extinguishers and giving unasked for hugs. Only AFTER he chose the Canes... But he's a Dolphin now so it's hard to say I "hate" him. Hate is such a strong word... but I understand where your coming from CaneSniper... if he was with the Jets I'd hate him if his play made him worth that hate. If he was with the Jets I'd probably love the guy 'cause he always makes the tackle 8 yards down field and never steps up and makes a big play!
Posted by: DZ8 | June 19, 2010 at 12:04 PM
Yeah Channing Crowder sucks...I like the Jets though. Wish they still had Vilma..but if it wasnt for Vilma the Saints would have no ring. Ehh..Works out..i was watching old nfl games Ravens vs Jets 04 Ray and Vilma..
But Seabas I have canesport and didnt see anything about Seantrel and Ego wish we can get both of them . and yeahh seems like every year Miami has some kids that cant qualify..soo yeah. saving a couple open scholarships would be helpful..

Hate is a strong word
I hate the way Matt Garza pitched in the first inning last night
That's why I use it for certain things. I hate Notre Dame. I hate UiF. I hate FSU. I hate Oklahoma. I hate Ohio State. I hate the Yankees. I hate people who slurp their soup/cereal so loud it sounds like loud bursts of an uzi. I hate non-accountability in people. I hate people who just stare at you while you drive by them, trying to act all "thug life". I hate when people wear their hats ON TOP of their head, with all their bangs hanging down in their face - instead of ON their head. I hate the sound of laziness when a person drags their feet with flip flops on. I hate people who park their car at the gas pump, then go inside the 7-11 on a 15 minute shopping trip. I hate brussel sprouts. I hate people that smoke packs of cigarettes in their car, but still throw the butts of the cigs out onto the road - are they afraid their ashtray is going to get dirty or the inside of their car might smell from the butts? I hate picky homeless people - I went to Taco Bell and bought some bean burritos after a homeless guy at the gas station said he wanted some money b/c he was hungry, I drove back to the gas station which was only 20 yards away from the Taco Bell, offered him the burritos and he said he didn't like them .... if you just want some coin for 40 oz of malt liquor, then just tell me. I hate Church's Chicken - if anything is yard bird, then that's it, I guarantee it's fried pigeon. I hate people at the laundromat that take up 3 rolling baskets and 3 tables - fold faster and use your one table efficiently you lazy ass. I hate people that wash their A/C filters at the laundromat - how ghetto can you be, you got money to put rims that spin on your '97 Daewoo Lanos, but you can't drop $7 on a new A/C filter? I hate sinus issues. I hate guys that pimp their way around the bases in a beer league softball game, after hitting a home run with a $400 illegal bat, thinking they're Albert Pujols. I hate guys in the gym that make sure everyone knows they're there, by grunting insanely loud as if they were an elephant seal doing a mating call. I hate people up at work that don't flush the urinals. I hate people up at work that spray all around the urinal -BUT- in the urinal, when they take a leak - makes me want to throw some Cheerios in it and stand there next to them, yelling at them to try and hit the Cheerios for $5, like they were a child. I hate the stretch of road from Downtown Tampa on 275, to the Dale Mabry exit - for no reason at all, that stretch is always bumper to bumper, at 2pm, then as soon as it gets past the Dale Mabry exit, traffic shoots out like greyhounds at the track. I hate Dane Cook trying to be funny. I hate that so many people care so much about celebrity gossip shows & worry about celebrities lives, instead of taking care of their own business. I hate that I came up with the "Shape Up" shoes idea back in 1993, by duct taping a tennis ball to the bottom of both my shoes, but I didn't patent it. I hate that Chick Fil A isn't open on Sundays.

Excuse me sir, can you spare a buck or two
F*%k you mother f*#ker, I need liquor too
Posted by: DZ8 | June 19, 2010 at 01:57 PM
86 - ya, I must've missed when the Rays traded Matt Garza to the Fish to go up there and throw batting practice for them
7 runs in 1 1/3 inning
He walks Lazy Ramirez and Dan Uggla to get the bases loaded. He then walks Cody Ross, to walk in Coghlan for a run. He then serves up a meatball for Mike Stanton, when instead, he should've thrown him another breaking ball like he did the 2 previous pitches - Stanton hadn't proved he can't hit the curve yet - and Stanton hits a granny. Fish score 5 in the 1st b/c of that, then Garza goes ahead and shows he's still on the Fish payroll by serving up garbage again to the plate ... he gives up 2 more runs
Andy Sonnanstine and the rest of the bully comes in, doesn't give up a single run the rest of the game ... while the Rays offense scores 4 runs
Garza doesn't pitch like complete garbage, those 7 runs don't happen b/c of him. Fish went 6 innings without scoring after Garza left
The Rays though are beating the Marlins - in attendance, ha. The Rays pull 9,000 a home game while the Marlins pull 7,000
Posted by: Six | June 19, 2010 at 02:05 PM
Awesome to watch the College World Series starting right now and seeing FSU and UiF playing in it ... but not the school that has 4 titles, the most consecutive Regional appearances, the 4th most wins in the history of the CWS and the 2nd most appearances at the CWS
F--k !!!!!

In other news ...They made him an offer he couldn't refuse
Bruce Tuck, the 275 pound serial rapist now says he was coerced into confessing by Weakley County authorities who had him on a lettuce-only diet while in jail last year.
"Detective Marty Plunk offered the defendant a bag of chips and a cold drink in exchange for talking to him about the cases," Tuck, wrote in his recently filed petition.

Posted by: SOUP | June 19, 2010 at 05:28 PM
Free stuff from Ferman at Canesport.com:
Wide receiver Odell Beckham from New Orleans Isidore Newman Schooll has been a Miami fan for as long as he can remember. But in a crowded year for receiver talent in South Florida, Beckham wasn't sure he would get an offer from the Hurricanes.
Aubrey Hill, the Miami receivers coach who is recruiting Beckham, suggested he come down for the Randy Shannon Football Camp and show his ability in person. So Beckham headed south on a mission last week and didn't plan on returning home to Louisiana without earning a scholarship offer.
Mission Accomplished.
Beckham was named the offensive MVP of the Shannon camp and when his mail arrived on Wednesday back home in Louisiana he found a U logo on one of the envelopes. A letter from Shannnon tucked inside.
Miami immediately vaulted to the top of his list alongside LSU with the possibility that Alabama could still make it a three-team race.
"I've been a Miami fan for a long time," Beckham said. "I was real excited when I got the letter. I've always liked everything about the program. They've had a lot of great players. I felt if they saw me that they would want to offer me."
