As just announced, highly coveted Saint Thomas Aquinas WR Phillip Dorsett committed to the University of Miami tonight LIVE on Canesport.com.
Gary Ferman of Canesport.com just had the announcement at 8:08 PM that UM was Dorsett's school of choice.
Now let's get to the Rumor Mill:
Word on the street is that highly recruited DL Ego Ferguson is not going to attend LSU, has enrolled in a junior college and wants to re-open his recruitment. Some reports are that he wants to come to The U and that Miami is interested in him. More to follow on this hot story.
USC OL commit Seantrelle Henderson is also rumored to be leaving the Trojans and to be very interested in UM. He frequently talks on Facebook to several Miami players like Latwan Anderson, but most reports have him going to Ohio State.
#1??

I see Dorsett is 5-9 167 on one site and 5-10 175 on another site which, is he closer to at the present time?
Posted by: solarcane | June 19, 2010 at 09:21 PM
Solar...he's short and FAST! That's all U need to know. Santana Moss like.
Posted by: SOUP | June 19, 2010 at 09:35 PM
I thought it was that S.Henderson didnt like Ohio State and that he and he father thought it was very boring also adding that he didnt want to play in the cold.
Solid pick up for the canes. Winning program in florida with St.Thomas and we got what 5 players in the past couple of years..lol at Chris Carter..maybe he should focus on his son!
Posted by: zarokon | June 19, 2010 at 09:36 PM
Hopefully Sammy Watkins & Kelvin Bemjamin jump on board now that we may only sign one two more WR's in this class.
Posted by: Ronny | June 19, 2010 at 09:45 PM
ego and seantrel would be huge gets...what player can we shannon send out on speacial assignment..don't we have a kicker, punter, baseball player (3rd baseman)..
Posted by: DrtyCane | June 19, 2010 at 09:47 PM
Yea yea I know,he's short that aint gonna change, I was wondering if hes already in the 175-180 pound range.
I'm loving getting STA players coming here
They come in with the winning attitude the MNW kids have.
Santana Moss is 31 years old today ( Happy Birthday) so I'm hoping Dorsett is as at least as fast as Moss is. lol!

today > I mean this month Happy Birthday anyway Santana

Dorsett... Nice... Good potential.
Looks like a sold receiver with some shake and bake.. Give him a year to learn the system and let him redshirt in 11 to put some solid meat on that frame... Then lets see what he's got.
Anybody notice his demeanor after scoring... No showboating... Shows class and gives the impression, he's been there before... I likey.
Good stuff

Just when I thought I could take a little time off from My Canes and recharge, I get drawn back in by GREAT, FANTASTIC, OUTSTANDING news!!! Ego and Seantrel would be nice, but I don't see it happening. Even assuming 6 don't qualify and/or transfer we're maxed out.
Posted by: j.w. | June 19, 2010 at 10:07 PM
j.w., Ego and Seantrel probably wouldn't even attempt to get in with the current class. IF they try to get with the U it will most likely be as part of next year's class. although those spots are going fast now too.
Posted by: Esteban | June 19, 2010 at 10:11 PM
Not to change the subject... Dorsett sounds good. (Need another Santana type!)
But, I saw the new movie "Knight and Day" in a Sneak Preview tonight. Best "Summer Action" movie of the year so far... I highly recommend it.
Let's Go Canes!

bg and anyone else,
The dreaded RRoD hit today brothers.
Playing Red Dead Redemption, and I thought it seemed strange to see tiny ice pellets or snow falling in the middle of the desert.
Then the "ice" turned into gold luminous flakes that lit up anything black on the screen....
A quick reboot and the rings were flashing red.
What do you think of the next gen Xbox Slim.
What is your opinion of it being another lame duck design as far as reliability goes?
Walmart is practically giving away the arcade 360 to make room for Slim.
I don't need a closet full of dead game consoles.

Solar - do yourself a favor and get the PS3. You will sleep better at night, lol. They did say the new 360 slim will never get the RROD....but thats because they did away with the ring and now they are dots so you can get the RDOD (Red dots of death)..LOL

If you are going to get a new Xbox you MUST get the Xbox Slim! FIYAH!

Dorsett is shifty and fast. He’s about 5’9, 5’10. Runs a 4.35 – 4.4. Has good hands. Can stretch the field and can go across the middle. He’s a playmaker. Think a faster Thearon Collier. Not as explosive as Roscoe, but a VERY good prospect none the less. LOVE HIM! Wanted him in this class since I seen him vs Byrnes on ESPN. VERY, VERY good pickup and should start the dominos falling on WRs. I told you all the other day when Green commited to expect Dorsett to announce soon too. Those were the 2 big dogs over there, although Bobby Hart gets a lot of hype as well. He’s unlike the 2 WRs is less earned IMO. Announcement is at 7.

Solar.
PS3 just got WAXED at E3 by the Xbox 360. We'll have ESPN3 streaming for the X360 they have NADA. Also they are about to start charging for their online too. I tried to tell the Sony fan boys it was coming. Understand this, the ONLY knock Sony has on the X360 is the RROD. That's it. They have blu-ray but so what, we want a gaming machine. Playing movies wears on laser more than games do. At any rate, the X360 has better exculisves (Except God of War III) and we get EVERYTHING first. Do what you gotta do, but know that the winnder in this thing called next gen is X360!

Dorsett...
JMO... After watching several videos...There's no question the kid is good but to say he's better then Benji, if Benji were to leave in 11 and he just come in and fill the shoes... I'm not ready to say yes, yet...
Is he better then davon, collier and kendal?... Or better then Hurn? If you say yes, then that is an assumption until proven. I remember watching the others before they came and each one brought game to the field.
On making room in 11... Randy Knows he over did it in 09 and maybe 10, in try to fill needs with potential.. But in 11, he's going to have to clean out the closet... Hopefully several will want to transfer before being told to leave and I'll not be surprised if one or two receivers, one or two RB's and a couple of LB's, DB's or safety's request leaving for playing time.
But Hell, that's just me talk'n shiit... We'll just have to wait and see.

BG - PS3 got "waxed" at E3......really? Funny how everything I have read says that Nintendo stole the show with Sony a close 2nd and that MS came up really short.
Yes, the only issue with the 360 has been the RROD but isn't that enough? It's like saying Toyota is better than Honda because you get free floor mats except you might get killed driving a Toyota.....please.
Don't even get me started on the reviews (from E3) regarding Kinect vs Move. :-)

Great Commit with Dorsett I'm trying to get a hold of him for an interview..
Tom - You never responded to my email.. Been going through a bit of a crisis week. But things should be alright going forward for next week.
Check this out by some OSU fan trying to justify the call in 2002. See if you can even stomach making it through the video and his justifications of the call and Porter being vindicated by the Big 12 for making the right call. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMvjADmxhVw
Nauseating.. Please post on there and let that guy know hes an idiot... Are there like a thousand articles we could post that say that was a terrible call and he cites one CBS reporter Dodd... AS THE TELL ALL that Porter made the right call. PHUCKING IDIOT.

BG - Dorsett is a very fast and elusive kid.. but he utilizes his speed too much. That won't work in big time college. He will have to run better routes. I heard he is working with Carter though all the time, and he is the opposite of Rashad Greene in personality, work ethic, and team first attitude.
That I like!!!!
So he is an excellent pick up. We need a big receiver for this class and if we are taking two more I'd like Ja'Juan Story to give us some height then definitely take Watkins if he wants in but since he prob. is a GATOR lean go for Benjamin from Belle Glades.
The crazy thing BG is things are looking better for Chikillo I know I told u he was a definite noooo, but he is liking the buzz with these big kids pulling the trigger. But I like some other DE's alot better. Chick is undersized, had some injury issues, AND CAN NOT PLAY THE RUN.. Don't get me wrong he is a beast off the edge on pass rush, and he using his hands well to get off blockers and to tip passes, but I don't know off that many great lineman in his district either..
He def. needs to step up his game if he expects to see the field at UM within his first 3 years.
LB's Perryman/Steward are FRIGGIN STUDS... I just wish we could get both. Perryman looks like a lock but Steward is def. questionable.

First off please understand that Nintendo doesn't count in terms of next gen. The Wii is NOT a next gen machine, in fact, its more of a throwback type of machine that is novel because of the way it works. Also what made Nintendo strong at the show as the 3DS. So again that has nothing to do with next gen.
Next gen is STRICTLY Xbox 360 and the PS3 and the X360 has kicked the PS3's arse from Day 1. Why do you think Metal Gear is FINALLY coming to X360, I'll tell you why, because X360 is the DOMINANT platform. Xbox Live is the DOMINANT Online Service.
It is about preference, for instance, I prefer Nissan to other vehicles since you mentioned Toyota. Obviously you only read "pro" Sony propoganda. You announced some new games...WHOA...only Twisted Metal which is OLD was an exclusive. All the "cool" games you mentioned like Portal 2 are coming to both platforms and we had Portal in the Orange Box 2 or 3 years ago. M$ on the other hand introduced new hardware (new Xbox 360), EXCLUSIVE deal with ESPN3 (ESPN 360) lets see how many Canes games you'll get to watch or rewatch via the PS3...NONE! HAHAHAHA! You played catchup with Netflix and needed a disk to do it. Also the Kinect is cooler than Nintendo and Sony because you don't need a controller, U are the controller.
PS3 is a great platform, don't get me wrong, but it is not as great as the Xbox 360. Taking all failures away (because the PS3 DOES have the yellow ring of death) and go head to head on games and online (the 2 things that SHOULD matter most for gamers) and I think its a no brainer, the 360 rules the roost!

Better route running will come, and YES he has a BIG advantage in getting coaching from Chris Carter who MAY be the best WR NOT in the HOF. Story will not be in the class. Watkins is NOT a UF lean. He's a Cane lean and I would not be suprised if he and Crawford are silents after their visit last week. Everyone including me in the beginning made a big deal of his brother being a Gator. But they are half brothers if I'm not mistaken and apparently not as close as some would like to portray from what I've heard. So if that is the only basis of making him a Gator lean, its null and void. He loves Miami and grew up a fan, infact in a recent interview with the Rival's Clemson site, he said we are #1. We may even take 4 WRs so Benjamin would still be a great pickup (may have academic issues) and also Odell Beckham really likes us too, but he will be hard to pry away from LSU country. We'll see how it all pans out, but I'd have to think Watkins and Benjamin are the next 2 big fish on our board. I told you don't believe the negative hype on Chickillio. He WILL be a Cane. Believe me on that. I've cut my teeth around here doing recruiting for several years now, I'm NEVER 100% right, no one ever else, but I get "REALLY" strong indications about "CERTAIN" kids and I can tell you Chickillio will be a Cane unless something 100% crazy happens.
Steward is all FSU and he is a BEAST, but he'll be a 'Nole. Forget about him. Perryman on the other hand...All U, All Day!

Posted by: ChicagoCane | June 20, 2010 at 11:00 AM
Very high probability. Some "insider" types feel Rogers won't be in this class, but I disagree. The staff doesn't STICK kids like that. Todd's situation was VERY different last year. They wouldn't allow him to commit if they didn't want him (i.e. Jakhari Gore).
Also we are NOT in dire need or a RB in this class although lately they have stepped up their pursuit of Savon Huggins. I think after they began getting a more chilly reception from James Wilder they've in a sense moved on and now Huggins is back in the mix. BUT I don't expect us to get Huggins and that's ok, Storm Johnson was a bonus last year. We were only supposed to take 2 RB and 1 FB. But he's the kind of play U don't say no too. So if there are no RBs in the class, we could use that slot for 1 additional WR (this is likely IMO). So at this juncture, I'd say yes, expect 4 WRs in this class and 1 TE (O'Leary).
