As your Miami Hurricanes begin their quest for their first ever ACC football championship in 2010 we thought that you might be interested in a brief re-cap of the conference title game over the past five years. So below is a short summary of those games and the teams that played them.
As you read the accounts of the past games and the winners please don't get you knickers all in a wad Hurricane fans. Things are turning around in Coral Gables thanks to one Randy Shannon.

Would anyone like to dig in (or just make stuff up) to the thought of "no autographs" at Canesfest this year?
Well, we know the 3rd week into the season last year, the media kind of went into our team's head.
Is the "no autograph" stunt just a psychological hold Shannon is trying to get on these kids? To get them away from all the schmoozing of being the best until they are the best? Is it like taking the names off the jerseys?
BTW did y'all know Brian Kelly up in ND did the same thing with the names this year? So many people criticized Shannon for that.

On the names on unis thing
I'm almost positive it was Bill Veeck's White Sox that started players having their names on unis.
I remember later Mudcat Grant coming out with "Mudcat" on the back of his uniform and a bunch of other players started having their names sewn on
I never really liked it as far as adding anything to a uniform's look.

WYPT Crew
I just plunked down our balance, we are good to go!
Been pretty hairy here the last two nights
hail storms, lightning, and winds over 60 mph knocking down trees and blasting the tops off a couple of my Oaks.
I don't mind drowning if I'm having fun, getting killed by lightning and then drowning to death on the same trip would be irritating though.
Posted by: solarcane | June 17, 2010 at 04:07 PM
Solar - I have seen that the weather has been really bad where you are. It is Florida hot here - high humidity and 8-10 degrees above normal.
Posted by: CGNC | June 17, 2010 at 04:19 PM
cg I was in a town called Dawsonville Saturday, The readout on the Ford dealers thermometer at 2pm was 102, this was in direct sun, but that's pretty hot for up here.
We have been having thunderstorms like the ones that used to come over Coral Springs every afternoon at about 3 pm all summer.
When is your target date for going back to Florida?
Posted by: solarcane | June 17, 2010 at 04:37 PM
Solar, when I can get anough $$$ for my house. Right now I could probably get about 10-12 below what I want. So I will wait a bit

Are you still looking at the Jupiter/ Tequesta areas?
Will you have your horse right on your property this time?

June 16, 2010
CORAL GABLES, FLA. - Todor Pandov has returned to the University of Miami men's basketball staff as the strength and conditioning coach, announced head coach Frank Haith.
"It's great to have Todor back in the Miami basketball family," said Coach Haith. "As a former player, he understands the physical and mental demands of the season, and he knows what is necessary to help our student-athletes reach and maintain peak conditioning. He will be an asset to our program."
A 2003 graduate of Western Kentucky, Pandov spent the last two seasons as the strength and conditioning coach for his alma mater.
Pandov previously served on the Hurricanes' staff as a graduate manager during the 2007-08 campaign when Miami advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

SHE MAY BE A GREAT ASST. COACH BUT SHE HAS, HOW DO U SAY, AN UNFORTUNATE NAME:
One week after signing a five-year contract extension, University of Miami women's basketball coach Katie Meier has announced that Vernette Skeete has been named the new assistant coach of the Hurricanes.
"Coach Skeete has tremendous energy and character - something that just impressed me from day one. Her desire to push every person she meets towards greatness is perfectly in-line with our philosophy here at Miami," said Meier. "Her experience at various levels of basketball will help her connect in recruiting and connect with our current players as we continue to develop All-ACC performers."
Posted by: SOUP | June 17, 2010 at 05:33 PM
HAITH ARE U PAYING ATTENTION? TIME TO GET 'ER DONE:
During her tenure at Miami, Meier has had four players named All-ACC, including two from last season. Sophomores Riquna Williams and Shenise Johnson were second and third in the conference in scoring en route to first-team honors for Johnson and second-team accolades for Williams. Of the 10 student-athletes on the top-two conference teams, Williams and Johnson were the only sophomores.
“Anytime a coach returns two All-ACC performers and the nucleus of a team that made a deep postseason run, combined with another Top-25 recruiting class, it becomes a season to look forward to,” said Meier.
Meier’s last three recruiting classes have ranked among the top-25, including a No. 19 ranking for the incoming 2010 class. Two of her classes have included McDonald’s All-Americans – in Johnson (2008) and Morgan Stroman (2009).
“Our women’s basketball team continues to build momentum each year with Coach Meier’s leadership,” said UM President Donna E. Shalala. “Her stellar recruiting classes have made it possible to compete at the highest level.”

Speaking of Truth, where is that dude? I haven't seen him on the blog since like mid-season or something...
Posted by: CanesAddiction | June 17, 2010 at 05:39 PM
Hurriphin.......the U.
The closest we've been to the ACC crown, was when the 05' squad had it going on at 9-1..........
Then we absolutely humped ourselves, vs GT......at home no less.
Prior to that, it was the last time we saw a fairly great Cane D, and the last time we saw "Good Kyle Wright."
I think that was the game where Solar's son called Wright a Q-Tip, or something to that effect........

"Coach Skeete has tremendous energy "

hurri, yea about like that lol
My son upon watching then can't miss Freshman Heisman candidate Wright at Lockhart Stadium for the very first time,
casually commented
"The albino kid is going to get creamed before he ever lets go of the ball in college"

Not yet but no worries, I told Chandler Concrete and Habersham Hardware I had more important bills to pay than my material bill.

Didn't I say the day Bridgewater committed,
AJ would transfer or start playing a different position if he decided to stay?
Posted by: solarcane | June 17, 2010 at 06:50 PM
Talked to the Alumni Assoc office and they said that Miami hardly got any tickets this year for the Ohio State game and that the top contributors come first, with at least $3000 a year in contributions.
So, it looks likes television is the only way. Better viewing on television.
My best to everyone. Another MRI next week and am EMG. Hope they can help me.
Posted by: MaryLouAlumni | June 17, 2010 at 07:23 PM
Solar,
What's up with AJ? I must have missed it...
Posted by: roachcane77 | June 17, 2010 at 07:52 PM
I just a thing I read in email that AJ MAY play a different position after this season is over.
That's not to say he will,
I was just saying to Canez1 that is what I thought would happen the day Bridgewater signed.
Bridgewater has a lot of the player's admiration, physical ability and leadership traits Jacory has.
He comes in as advertised I think Highsmith will really be challenged and eventually be passed as the next starter.
This is just my opinion roach, we will have to see how good teddy is as a college QB.
Posted by: solarcane | June 17, 2010 at 08:07 PM
Cool... yeah, I won't hold you to it, but it does make sense.

long long time brudda glad to see you here
Posted by: solarcane | June 17, 2010 at 08:28 PM
Solar, yeah the whole idea was to be able to have the horse on the property, cause ya know, I will need a second one. Jupiter Farms fits the bill for that. Plus more work for me down there by far. If something were to happen with this job up here I would have trouble getting the shillings some place else which is never good.
