Zak,

Individually, most of those kids have All-American potential on their own.
Coaches and coordinators shouldn't be working overtime in 2010.

Speaking of which,
Isn't it about time for a good ol' Coaches vs. Players debate?

Seantrel...

ESPN Insider:

Seantrel on campus?

Thank goodness for Charley Walters of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. Without him, we'd never get anything new on five-star OT Seantrel Henderson. Walters revealed last week that Henderson wanted out of his USC letter of intent and was leaning toward Miami, and now he reports that Henderson in fact was in Miami on Saturday. If true, this would be the strongest indication yet that Henderson does not plan to enroll at USC and that he wants to become a Hurricane, despite the best efforts of Lane Kiffin & Co.

As for getting out of that pesky national letter of intent (NLI), Walters says that "evidence exists" that Kiffin assured Henderson that the school would not face any major sanctions, and that said evidence could be used as part of Henderson's appeal to the NCAA to grant a waiver and allow him to play this fall even if USC does not release him.

The letter-of-intent program is actually not run by the NCAA; it is governed by the Collegiate Commissioners Assocation. As such, an appeal actually goes to the NLI Policy and Review Committee, and the NLI's website says an appeal can take six to eight weeks. So if Henderson wants to be able to play this fall, he'd better hurry. (Though for all we know, perhaps he's already mailed in his appeal.)

Ray Lewis should ne number one--not just for his amazing talent, but his gigantic heart and motivation. Andre Johnson should move up a couple of notches.

Thats a funny question. The players are going to make the coaches look like geniuses this season. Are they? Have they improved on player development/evaluation, pre-game gameplanning, and gameday adjustments and strategy? Who knows, but I do know that it would be a great question for us to have. It would mean that we've made a tremendous improvement and I welcome that. I personally don't care to debate it, I was in the trenches of this debate for years on here with the best of them: The Truth, Calvin, Cav, Carlos, OGV, dj moonbat, solar, 86, Esteban, Canez1, pb..etc.. and we didn't get anywhere really..lol.

Rain in the 727 is not helping our 4th of July.

Happy 4th everyone!

windy1

I attended the last 4 spring games, and to actually see the players up close and how they have grown and developed is nothing short of amazing. THe Canes have some athletes and players reminiscent of 1999-2002, and (barring injury) they will never find themselves outmatched by any opponent that they line up against.

It would be great if what Barry Jackson said is true and Kevin Nelson starts at MLB, for a team that (I predict) will be on a NC run. Nelson is a playmaker, and he says he has gotten bigger over the summer.

That would be 4 solid recruits from Gator country in the last 2 years, with the GHS duo and the Seminole duo contributing in a major way.

CGNC

Happy 4th Canes fans!! Just got done watching Wimbledon. Wow how hot I mean good is Nadal??? LOL Great player!

Zakkee - how the heck have you been?

TIFWIW

Keyshawn Johnson is in Alabama for the national 7on7 tournament. He sponsors the SoCal team.

South Florida also has a team there, Teddy and Eli are on it.

Anyway, Keyshawn Johnson told people last night that Seantrel Henderson has been released from his USC scholarship, per the agreement before he signed, and he will be going to Miami................

I do not know Keyshawn Johnson, nor do I know why he would lie about this matter, but this is what he told people last night. I'm trying to check into it further. Henderson's father used to do interviews with me, but haven't heard from him since the last one, and he's not taking my calls anymore, LOL..........

CGNC - notice however how much he picks his @ss during a game? My hairdresser pointed it out to me and now every time I see him play that is all I can see, lol! Happy 4th, we have had nothing but overcast and raining skies for the past couple of days. I am not complaining because it is better than the heat and 100 degree days.

Anthony Chickillo

"I guess if I had to name leaders from the group, I'd have to say Miami and Florida as of now."

According to Chickillo, one of the main reasons he's high on the Gator and Hurricane programs is due to his familiarity with the coaches and the campuses.

"I've been to both schools a couple of times," Chickillo said. "At Miami, I've developed a great relationship with my position coach. Plus, I get a good feeling when I go down there. I feel real comfortable."

"With Florida, it's kind of the same thing. I have a good relationship with coach (Dan) McCarney and the entire staff. I really like it there too. I've also seen Florida State, USF and UCF. They are all great schools but I've seen Miami and Florida more, so I have a better feel for those schools."

It think it was settled: BOTH MATTER!

COACHING = 30%

PLAYERS = 70%

I see it more as a 60/40 ratio but hey that's just me.

SOUP

bg...thanks for the updates on SH. What's your GUT feeling on this one?

Zarokon...bg had all but about guaranteed us that Chickillo will be a Cane, not a Gator.

zarokon

yeah i wouldnt want him to be a Gator either. But i dont expect K.Johnson to lie about this. and if he was on campus today i hope he was signing to be a cane. plus if his dad is serious about wanting to be a rapper...Dade County has just about the best rappers out at this time...im just saying LOL

Cat 5 Cane | July 04, 2010 at 11:33 AM

Cat5 - I think you meant to address that post to solar, my man is the one that replied to you about having Chris Evert at the top

But I'll vehemently defend having her holding down the #1 spot, esp. being in such an individualistic sport such as tennis, with her accomplishing what she did

It's unheard of

She is credited with inventing the 2 handed backhand shot

She also went up against absolute legends of the sport, William Jean King and Martin Navratilova - those two dudes could play some tennis - and also whom many associate with being arguably the greatest female tennis player ever (as well as King and Navaratilova), Margaret Court

The era also that Evert played in, had arguably better competition than any other era so far in tennis

Evert also posted a .900 winning % in singles matches (1,309-146) - best ever in the history of any man or woman pro tennis player

For 13 consecutive years, she won at least 1 Grand Slam title - she also won 18 Grand Slam titles overall. She was in 273 semi-finals of 304 tournaments she entered

She also called out Serena Williams for having the potential for being the greatest women's tennis player ever, if she wanted, but not acting like it in lack of showing desire ... which you gotta love

Six

Best part about the 4th of July?

Holiday pay and reporting how many idiots blow their fingers off .. they should listen to solar's advice, fingers are more fun than fireworks

Happy 4th

Hey Soup----Glad you agree with me about Andre Johnson. He's an all around special guy---college degree with high honors and a great football player.
As for me, I just had another MRI (waiting for those results). Hope it shows that scar tissue is giving me all this leg nerve pain. The EMG was negative 9no nerve damage) and they don't know why my brain has shrunk so much. I was 7 weeks premie and the specialists don't know if I was born that way or if all the narcotics shrunk my brain. Hopefully the nerves in my spine will heal and settle down in one more year. My surgery was one year tomorrow.
I want to get better so I can come down to the U in early November for my 40th CLASS REUNION. I CAN't believe it! Maybe I will see a lot of you at the homecoming game that weekend.
My best to everyone and all of your prayers are giving me the hope and determination to get better. I better quit! Too long winded!!

Also, how about the Ray's home town kid Matt Joyce (Armwood High School), hitting his first home run this year?

A pinch-hit, 2 out, grand slam in the 8th, to take a 4 run lead over the Twinkies yesterday - to cap off the 7 runs they scored that inning

Quote from AOL, which apparently is trying to catch up with the times:

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them.

Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around.

IMAGINE THAT?

LA Times Poll:

What do you think of the sanctions against USC?

Too harsh 1,449 votes 31%

Too lenient 2,197 votes 47%

Just right 1,029 votes 22%

And that's in LA! Almost 50% think the sanctions were TOO lenient. WOW is all I can say.

Zakk, you'll see improvement across the board, coaching and playing, primarily because of experience and continuity. It's priceless to have your OC and DC in place for a couple of years with the same kids.

I don't think player development and evaluation has been a problem, with a few notable exceptions/mistakes, that we won't name, coach and players.

But those have all been cleaned up and cleared out, so it's locked and loaded.

And I'm with Soup on the coach vs player equation. In college it's about 30% coaching 70% players, although sometimes it's closer to 50/50 in big games.

Captain Optimist aka Cavaleer

The news stops there, but that is very grim news for Buckeye fans. We could see Seantrel in Columbus come Sept. 11, but not in the uniform I want to see him in. He will have the U. I hope this is all just talk, and no show, but I have a gut feeling this time there's no dodging the bullet.
