great write up and I am loving the previous chit chat in the last blog. Love reading the in depth analysis that some of U give out. Even though I live in North Carolina I am still up to date with the latest in recruiting, stats, players, coaches, etc...Thanks to Canespace!

elliott

By the way the talk about how this team passes the "eye test" is really making grin drippin kool aid on my chin right now....

Hurri'

Damn SOUP. How do you do it?

That picture of Harris hitting the Heisman is scintillating!!

Yes I think Randy will be on the top 50 list in awhile, but not mine yet.

I didn't put him on the original 50 because I didn't find anything outstanding about him anywhere in his high school days.

He was a very average college linebacker "I wasn't very good" was the way he described his play in an interview I remember.

His pro career?

He was a great a DC, and recruiter.

Like some of the baseball managers he will move up when he wins something of significance.

As far as being proud of him, I put him right in with Darryl Gwynne, Ottis Anderson, Ray Bellamy, Kelly Slater and Chris Evert, the cream of the crop.
Shannon is a class act all the way.

Thanks again both of you for your participation throughout the whole article.

Mr Troutman

I WONDER HOW A LOT OF PEOPLE GOING TO ACT WHEN SHANNON DO LIFT THAT NC TROPHY....ONE WORD...THEY WILL HATE

Captain Optimist aka Cavaleer

Several reports have surfaced that USC offensive lineman Seantrel Henderson has been on Miami's campus, but that is incorrect, according to a source at Miami. Henderson still has not been granted his release from USC. Miami cannot speak with him until that happens, but if and when it does, the Canes would likely recruit him again and they do have a scholarship available for him.

>>>>

Look at Shannon covering his tracks and making sure no one gets the wrong idea. hahaha

Hurri'

I don't care what anyone says..........

If Sean T wasn't the best DB in the nation in 03-04', then fish don't know how to swim.

Derrick Strait..........WHO?!?!?!?

Solarcane, I demand you do one of your patented statistical comparisons between the two!!

Captain Optimist aka Cavaleer

Trout, some will hate it but who cares.

the JH picture with the Heisman tie in was a gem.

86 the best part about the poll is it says "fetching results", must be a southern poll, huh? They do a lot of "fetching" around these parts - LOL!

I'm glad soup is using two shades of green that you can almost distinguish the difference between this time.

That last poll was like taking one of those Ishihara color blindness percentage tests lol!

I love the polls soup, great idea!

LEADING VOTE GETTERS SO FAR:

Brandon Harris

Allen Bailey

Matt Bosher

Jacory Harris

Lurker

Makes sense. If I had to pick four most likely to get awards it would be those four.

Speaking of Allen Bailey, the more I think about our DL the more excited I get about the potential of the team. A killer DL can hide a multitude of sins in the backfield and LB corps.

Doc Ibis

I think the poll should've had Sean Spence and Leonard Hankerson as well... Ray Ray Armstrong and either Marcus Forston, Travis Benjamin, and Damien Berry have less of a shot at winning a post season award IMO

solarcane

thanks peebster,

I really appreciate it

soup these colors are cool to me I can see it perfect

I love the poll idea , you get a feel of where the space's head is

Hey 86, that is a great pic. Sometimes a dumb ass...drops a clever shyt.

Cav, I don't know whats up with Latwan's comments about hating OSU so much. I get a bad feeling that he's trying to reporters quotables and just telling us what we want to hear. I believe he doesn't like them, but he's embellishing a bit I believe. Those Glenville (and all other Northeast Ohio) kids absolutely love the suckeyes, They don't even see any other option (for college) as credible or realistic, other than the luckeyes. It wouldn't be realistic to believe Latwan hated the OSU until their recruitment of him (which I don't have much knowledge of). I know they wanted him, but something happened..what..I don't know. What I do know, is that inner-city Cleveland kids dream of playing for OSU, but I'm working on changing that. I have 14 nephews and 9 play in the Muni and Pee-wee leagues that are starting to become very popular again in Cleveland. I go to all the games and help coach. Lets just say that Cleveland kids are gonna be checking for the Canes for now on. A quick history lesson on their favorite word:swagger and where it derives, gets their full attention. Billy Corbin's The U is a great recruiting tool.

Back to Latwan: we want emotion on the field, but not "chip on your shoulder emotion". You can't hit the field with hate alone, it has to be channeled correctly and that comes with maturity. 3 years ago, if I heard him say that, I would've been pumped and imploring the coaches to let him return the opening kick. Until, he sits down with Shannon & Coach Barrow and they bring that down a notch or find out the root of it, he shouldn't hit the field. This is how mistakes happen. Young and angry must become controlled aggression. They'll get Latwan straight, he's extremely talented and should play this season for sure. The issue will be maturity.

During his final year at Miami, Taylor produced a historic season that culminated with a plethora of honors and awards. He was named a consensus first-team All-American, the "Big East Conference Defensive Player of the Year" and a finalist for the "Jim Thorpe Award" given to the nation's best defensive back. He led the Big East Conference and ranked first nationally in interceptions with 10, tying the record for interceptions in a season with former Hurricane standout Bennie Blades. Taylor also finished first in total tackles with 77 (57 solos). He intercepted two passes in Miami's impressive 28-14 win over the University of Pittsburgh, playing a key role as the Hurricanes limited All-American receiver Larry Fitzgerald to just two receptions for 13 yards. He returned interceptions for an average of 18.4 yards, including a 67-yard touchdown return at Boston College, a 50-yard scoring runback at Florida State University, and a 44-yard scoring runback against Rutgers University. His three touchdown returns of interceptions is a Miami single-season record

nothing wrong with having a chip on your shoulder as motivation. as long as a guy is motivated that's all i want. no quiero albert haynesworth types. what's the point in having all that talent if you play hard every 4th season.

Missing In Action

INSIDE USC By Scott Wolf on July 5, 2010 4:01 PM

Seantrel Henderson remains in limbo after visiting Miami last weekend.

Meanwhile, linebacker Glen Stanley is looking to transfer to Florida State. Sources said his transfer is not related to NCAA sanctions. But I doubt USC will give him a release to allow him to transfer without sitting out a year.

http://insidesocal.com/usc/archives/2010/07/missing-in-acti-1.html#comments

... Not sure Henderson would be a good thing for the Canes...Too high maintenance...him and his Dad... Another Bryce Brown? Robert Marve? Kyle Wright? WW?

Also Lane Kiffin is questioning is work ethics: "It's unfortunate because being a big guy and a lineman, the off-season workout is so critical for this guy," Kiffin said. "When we saw him, he was 355 pounds, so unfortunately for him he's not only missing out on academics but missing out on preparing himself to play."

LA Times July 1, 2010

here is a comment from inside USC...

TrojanPete said:

I stopped caring for Seantrel Henderson before he made his original committment to SC. That NY Times article that detailed how he and his father tackled recruiting turned me off. His father was miffed that Pete Carroll left for Seattle and "didn't give him a call". Seantrel made Randy Shannon wait two hours in his living room while he had his hair done. Randy Shannon must be desperate to wait that out. I'd never wait that long for a recruit, especially if it takes him two hours to do his hair. What kind of man spends that long doing his hair? I just see too much prima donna need for coddling from this kid. This is football--no coddling!

Captain Optimist aka Cavaleer

Solar, where is Strait now?? I don't EVER remember hearing his name.

Zakk, that's great work on those Cleveland kids. haha They'll really listen when they see Shannon hoisting that crystal football.

I think LA's hunger will be given plenty of outlets and places to channel. I'm curious to see how he handles CB as I'm sure that's where they'll try him first. He'd be a helluva FS though but the need is at CB. With his ball-skills, I'd want him close to the WR.

Returns could be very interesting.

Esteban

Strait was good in college, but he didn't deserve that award that year.

TRU DAT! There are several poll providers and I have used a few. This one is new and I found it through Typepad and am testing it out. I used to insert the polls into the articles but I like the sidebar option even better.

If you click on the "COMMENTS" tab at the bottom of the poll it shows you the detailed analysis and where people voted from on a google map. Pretty cool!

Derrick Strait update:

Not so impressive.

Doc Ibis

After reading that article, I realized that all of the talent that came through Miami during the late 90s and early 2000s was really disrespected in the national media... You have 10 first rounders in two years (2003-2004) and nobody wins an award?

That's BS if I ever saw it.

Hurri'

That 03-04' Thorpe Award belongs to #1, 26, 36, and 21.

Has LA qualified?

Has SH qualified?

Da U N Houston

Someone asked earlier which pay sites they should committ to, I'd say I have had good experinces from Rivals. No one site is going to give you all "true" quotes or info, but they seem to provide good reading material (Nothing like the space, but they try).

Here are a few snip-bits from a recent article (the last piece talks about that TE that was mentioned b4 who was committed to OU but opened it back up and is now considering The U!!):

In the championship game, there were as many as eight Rivals250 prospects on the field at the same time. There were also numerous players in the class of 2012 that project as highly rated prospects for next year. There were three USC commits, two Miami commits, one Florida commit and an Arizona State commit as well.

In a game that came down to the final play and lived up to all of the hype and expectations, the South Florida Express took home the title and it had the sterling play of its quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to thank.

Bridgewater made great decisions, showed good arm strength, accuracy and poise and marched his team to a score on each of the three times he had the ball. He distributed the ball equally between his four main targets: current and future teammate Eli Rogers, Boyd Anderson receiver Jesse York and a phenomenal pair of 2012 pass-catchers in Avery Johnson and Brandon Snell.

Recruiting notes

Immediately following the championship game, Gerrod Holliman and Andrew Johnson made known their intentions to commit to Ole Miss. The commitments gave Ole Miss its third and fourth four-stars thus far in the 2011 class.

Chris Barnett formed a bond with several of the south Florida prospects and he may be taking a much closer look at the Hurricanes consequently. Previously with Oklahoma and Arkansas alone at the top of his list, Barnett is planning on taking an official visit to Miami and has the Hurricanes inching closer to his top three.

TonyCane

Why wasn't Hulk Hogan on the Top 50 list?
