The Trojans appear to be leaking.
Now dealing with NCAA sanctions and the confirmed defection of the #1 rated recruit of the entire 2010 class, the University of Southern California, USC head coach Lane Kiffin and recruiting guru Ed Orgeron are scrambling to try to save face.
It became official today shortly after 4 PM that offensive lineman Seantrel Henderson has gone rogue and has been granted his release from the Letter of Intent he signed to attend USC.
Henderson is said to have requested his release on claims of "evidence" that Kiffin misled him during the recruiting process by stating that USC would NOT face serious sanctions from the NCAA.
Not so fast my friend! The NCAA slapped USC right across the face with some heavy handed sanctions that include no bowl appearances for two years and the loss of 30 scholarships during that period.
It would be a stretch to say that Kiffin lied to Henderson so we will avoid making that claim. Except for the fact that he did not tell Henderson the truth. I guess that is lying, isn't it?
Many Hurricane fans became orgasmic with delight (some may even have multiples) as soon as they learned that the news was announced and after it was rumored that Henderson may soon announce that he is hoping to immediately transfer to the University of Miami.
We suggest that rather than get your knickers all in a wad, just sit back and enjoy the ride. The fun is just getting started!
You see, as a result of the previously mentioned "firm but fair" sanctions recently placed on USC by the NCAA for multiple and egregious rule violations committed by the Trojans, this is likely to be just the first of many national and local recruits the Trojans are bound lose or let slip away.
All of that California talent that until recently flocked to USC will start to have second thoughts about trusting Kiffin the Younger (who I am told is still busy learning ALL of the words to Rocky Top) and his partner in crime, I mean recruiting, Ed "Sticky Fingers" Orgeron.
The NCAA penalized USC for allegedly paying Reggie Bush (seen below) and for other rule violations involving basketball star O.J. "Gimme Some Extra" Mayo while they played for the Trojans.
These recruits that were once certain to attend USC may be tempted to look at other options on the West coast like UCLA, Standford, Oregon and Washington as well as some distant opportunities that may exist at The U instead of signing with the Trojans.
Granted, the USC cheerleaders are still a great temptation. I mean who wouldn't want to be the lucky duck that winds up with one of them? But a leaky Trojan is never a good thing.
Hmmm...Where is SH??

It was a joke 4-Real.
Memphis takes some players that go to Miami with some hype but can't take the competition, or for some other reason, leave Miami. Seantrel hasn't even said he's interested in the Canes yet, hasn't been cleared academicaly, and MOST importantly hasn't been accepted by Randy.
The kid is obviously a talented football player and will help us win. IF Randy wants him then great. I hope we don't cut any kid though who has already sweated and bled for The U just so Seantrel can get here now. JMO
Did you think I was a "secret" Memphis fan coming here to scout future Memphis Tigers?
Are you 4-Real?

Teddy Bridgewater is now a 5-star recruit on Scout even though we don't care about stars.

I had to google what Purple Drank was, lol. Should be some more on the market now that JaMarcus is out of the game.
Posted by: DZ8 | July 06, 2010 at 08:15 PM
For all the Shannon critics that talk about his lack of gameday ability and mistakes, I just saw Nat’l Champion coach Larry Coker poorly manage a two-minute drill before half time and cost the Canes three points in 2004 against FSU… It HAPPENS, even when you are a good coach!!
Posted by: Doc Ibis | July 06, 2010 at 08:15 PM
re: TB... God I hope this kid keeps his commitment. Not that he's shown any signs of wavering or anything. It's just that it seems that the past few years, some of our best recruits (in terms of stars) to commit super early ended up going elsewhere.
re: SH... If he were to land with the Canes (i.e. he's eligible, we've got a scholly, Randy accepts him, etc.), even if he does weigh 350 lbs, couldn't we use him in short yardage situations as a blocker like Alabama used Mt Cody? They're both HUGE and sort of in the same range:
Cody = 6'4'', 350-370 lbs (depending on the website);
SH= 6'7'', 350 lbs (according to Lane Kiffin).
GO CANES!!!
Posted by: CanesFanStuckInCali | July 06, 2010 at 08:16 PM
We could easily go to a power running game with or with out him.
Our offensive linemen will be less experienced but more athletic and physically imposing.
Also after the Wisconsin game it was what Shannon was preaching, making the trenches tougher.

You can also watch 2000 replays and find several situations in which Butch's decisions made you scratch your head, including against FSU (though we still won thanks to "The Drive" and to Bobby's poor clock-management at the end of the game). And that was 2000; if you look at Butch's previous five seasons you'll find plenty of more examples, especially in the early years.
Like Randy, Butch was learning on the job.
FWIW, I think Randy and co. improved somewhat last year, and I think they'll continue improve this year.
GO CANES!!!

ITU is not reporting that USC has released SH from his scholly. He is now free to go where he chooses.
Again, the fact that our sites have not reported on SH's intentions is a good thing.

Posted by: 321CANES | July 06, 2010 at 09:14 PM
I think he has a very good chance of coming here. I'd say 10% of him NOT...
1)There were rumors he had chosen the U originally, but his dad talked him out of it last minute. Plus, he idolized Mt. McKinnie.
2)He just visited the U again this week.
3)With Delmar Taylor goind to JUCO, and other 2010 recruits still having trouble academically (see Manny's recent article)there will be a schollarship available.
4) Steven Rivera (The barber Jacory and other players), announced on his twitter account it was happening...
I think it's about as done a deal as possible.

Great info. A little advice, fwiw, a little more discretion on what you report about our own Canes night time activities. No need to give those details - it didn't add anything to your story and it's just not a good idea to put that out there, true or not.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not slamming you. I know boys will be boys, but no need to air that laundry. Some things stay in the family. Ok? But great info. & I believe you. Thanks!

S.H. is about 90-10 going to be with us if he is ACADEMICALLY ELIGIBLE, there is question about one class.
But it should be ALL GOOD. Though crazier (Clearinghouse) issues have happened before.
SOUP - we need to talk some personal things came up with the wife and I. We are good, but things at my office have been getting pretty meager.. SOOO .. Long story short, I will be moving down to Miami in Sept... Kind of excited about that, as I will be able to go to all home games, and I will be able to go to the high school games IN SOFLA... With that said the recruiting info will start back next week.. I SWEAR. And I won't have any issues going forward..
Hit me up if you get a chance, you have my new email right? [email protected]
Sota -
Probable Class with another OL/DL in there somewhere.. can't think off the top off my head.
T.Bridgewater - QB (Committed)
S. Watkins - WR (I'd say 75% chance)
P. Dorsett - WR (Committed)
Eli Rodgers - WR (Committed - has been advised he has a verbal depending on what WR's UM pulls in this class. BUT I think it is becoming more and more apparent that the coaches are likely his route running ability, and ability to make plays and get OPEN on big downs in the zones...)
Wynn/Benjamin/D.Davis/D. Arnett/ (They will leave open one slot for a STUD WR if they really want to.. It will be either Rodgers slot or they will take 4 WR's and no RB)
S.Huggins RB (30%-35)
Nick O'Leary TE (50% chance)
Possible other TE
Mark Jackson OL (Committed)
S. Tuitt DT (35% chance)
A. Dubose DE (50% chance or better)
A. Chickillo DE (75% chance)
N. Menocal LB/DE (Committed)
D. Perryman LB (95% chance- I think silent)
T. Steward LB (30% chance or lower)
Jabari Gorman DB (75% chance)
Albert Jean-Lous DB (Committed)
Dallas Crawford DB (95% chance)
