Amen. To me great players don't have to win championships. Great teams win championships.

My indication that the King is coming to the Heat...

Who has an hour special to say they're staying? LeBron is saying good-bye tonight.

bg1906

Unless he is a silent.. SOUP.

They will have 4 spots sewn up, you got something different on info? Cause my source says W.Lyons is not considered even close to a LOCK for the canes.

By the way BG1906.. We were all feeling pretty confident about Chickillo. Did you see the new canesport article where he talks about how he and Patchan are GOOD BUDDIES, there daddies talk all the time. They talk every couple of weeks..

VERY INTERESTING..

It confirms what my source told me that Chickillo's dad has openly stated concerns about Shannon's coaching abilities.

Posted by: CaneSawMassacre | July 07, 2010 at 11:10 PM

That doesn't mean anything. I also saw you had Chickillo as 75% to UM. HAHAHA!

Listen bro, dude is NOT Matt and I can guarantee you Matt probably wishes now he'd chosen UM. He'd be STARTING now and probably would've last year too over Pipho. He also wouldn't have been shot. His time at UF has been memorable for ALL the WRONG reasons.

At any rate, Chickillo also said his top 2 are Miami and UF. You said we were out, so if we're out how are we in the top 2??? We get Chickillo. I have no doubt. I'd be SHOCKED if he didn't pick us.

Also as far as Lyons, I don't think in the end he'll be a Cane either. BUT recruiting changes day to day and minute to minute. If he wanted in, I'm sure they'd find a way to get him in, but I think he likes us more than you are giving him credit for. Why do you think the staff would give Gorman the flexibility to go through the recruiting process FULLY and not Lyons? I think they are both coveted but I think Gorman is higher because he can and is being recruited as a CB while is STRICTLY a Safety.

As far as DBs I think the guys we can safely say we get are:

Louis-Jean
Crawford

Gorman is a strong lean, Therezie is also possible but he's not a guarantee either, and Lyons is also possible. These 3 the staff will have to recruit and if they get 1 of the 3 or even better 2 of the 3 they'll feel very good about their class of DBs.

Timing of commitments will determine what happens here, just as it did with WRs. When Dorsett committed things sped up in a hurry! But I can tell you with certainty Waisome and Roberson will NOT be Canes.

University of Miami junior Bianca Eichkorn has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year and heads up the sport's 2010 All-ACC Academic Team, as announced on Wednesday, July 7, by Commissioner John D. Swofford.

Joining Eichkorn for the Hurricanes on this year's All-ACC Academic team is senior Laura Vallverdu - making her fourth consecutive appearance, along with sophomores Anna Bartenstein and Gabriela Mejia.

Eichkorn, an International Finance and Marketing major from Tengen, Germany, was a third-team 2010 Academic All-America selection by ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA and is a three-time member of the All-ACC Academic Tennis Team. Eichkorn has been named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll twice and is eligible to be included again this year. Her honors at Miami include being a two-time selection to the Provost's Honor Roll, a six-time membership participant on the Dean's List and six-time inclusion on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

On the courts, Eichkorn earned ITA All-America and All-ACC honors in 2010 while posting a 31-5 overall record and a 23-0 dual match record. Eichkorn finished 11-0 vs. fellow ACC opposition and ranks seventh all-time at Miami in career wins. After turning in the most successful sophomore season in school history during the 2008-09 campaign with 40 singles wins; she bounced back in 2009-10 to claim consecutive ITA All-America honors after advancing to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Singles Tournament in Athens, Ga.

Eichkorn holds the third-longest singles winning streak in school history - registering 27 consecutive from Jan. 17 through her NCAA Singles Quarterfinals match on May 29. She finished the 2010 season ranked No. 22 in the final Campbell/ITA singles poll, as well as No. 43 (along with partner Bartenstein) in the doubles poll.

Van Gundy, who once coached in Miami and remains a close friend of Heat coach Erik Spoelstra, also predicted that James would stay in Cleveland, scoffing at the speculation that he would join Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh in South Florida.

Wade and Bosh announced earlier in the day that they both have agreed to sign with the Heat in Miami. James will make his announcement Thursday with an hour-long television special.

"If he went anywhere but Cleveland, I'd be shocked,'' Van Gundy said before the Orlando Summer League action began Wednesday. "But I'd be doubly shocked if he went to Miami.''

Van Gundy did speak in admiration for the team that the Heat are now putting together after convincing Bosh to leave Toronto and join Wade in Miami.

"That's a team that was, the last two years, a No. 5 seed. And now they've added one of the best forwards in basketball. As far as a one-two punch, that compares pretty favorably to Kobe [Bryant] and Pau Gasol,'' he said. "It's right there. They are instant contenders. There isn't any doubt. They are contenders to win an NBA championship. They (the Heat) still have a lot of money to put guys around them. They'll get good enough pieces that they're instant contenders.''

Share The Magic reached the NBA Finals from the East two years ago, but they lost to the Celtics this past season.

It didn't take much prompting of Van Gundy, who is proud of his old-school basketball values, to see his opinion of James' self promotion, which has reached an all-time high.

"It takes 15 seconds to say I've decided to stay in Cleveland, but we've got another 59 minutes and 45 seconds to do, what? Promote LeBron James? As if we don't do that enough?'' he said. "It's gotten ridiculous. It's almost like a parody of itself, this whole situation now.''

Those guys will definitely lead next season, but not like Reed. Reed's team had leaders--Dorsey, Vilma, Joaquin, for example--but Reed was the head-honcho, the don, the emperor, the sheriff. You effed up back then, and Reed was gonna let you have it. Moreover, the other leaders fed off of Reed.

The team right now doesn't have that, at least I don't think so. It's probably because the team hasn't had any quality veterans the last few seasons (as exemplified by our poor performance in the NFL draft). I think that changes between this and next season, as both Harris's will be in a prime position to solidify themselves as the veteran leaders of this team. I too am looking forward to Jacory taking a more hands-on approach to his role as a leader, though to some degree Brandon is already there.

The other guys--CMac, Franklin, Bailey, and Hank--hopefully we see those guys develop into the leaders of their units, though I don't see them leading the entire defense or offense and much less the team. Franklin has the best shot, but CMac isn't talented enough on the field to inspire his peers; Bailey seems too playful, though it's good that everyone looks up to him because of his freakish athleticism; and Hank's a really quiet guy, though his off-season workouts should hopefully inspire the other WRs.

Back to Cane Mutiny: I just read the chapter on the 2003 Fiesta Bowl. I'm not going to lie to you--I got choked up! I relieved the horror last year before the Champs Bowl by re-watching the fiasco for the first time on ESPN Classic, but reading it in the book hit me much harder than watching it on TV.

We BETTER take it to those suckeyes!!! I hope the team uses the Fiesta Bowl as motivation, just like Reed used the 47-0 1997 loss to FSU as pre-game motivation five years later in 1997 when only a handful of players--fifth-year seniors--had actually experienced that embarrassment.

LETS GO CANES!!!!!!!

Jacory Harris/ Orlando Franklin/ L. Hankerson Should be your offensive leaders

A.Bailey/C.McCarthy/B.Harris should be the leaders on defense.

I'm looking to see Jacory really take the leadership role by the helm, being more animated on the sidelines and calling teammates out who are under performing.

He seems hesitant to do that at times, but I think as a sophomore he wanted to lead by example. This year he needs to get in peoples faces.

CanesFanStuckInCali

And if no one from the 2008 class steps up, then Ray Ray (2009), LA and Nelson (2010), and Tavadis Glenn (2011) will surely fill that void once their time comes. GO CANES!!!!!!!!

CanesFanStuckInCali

Cane Mutiny is such an awesome book! If you haven't read it yet, go get a copy right now!

I'm at the part where Feldman talks about the early 2000s Canes. I'm glad we're finally bringing in some highly-vocal/cocky players like LA and Kevin Nelson. Players like that give the team a lot of energy, kinda like Portis and Shockey did back in the day.

On the other hand, we still don't have a hardcore vocal general like Reed was. I'm hoping that at some point one of these juniors or seniors steps up and takes that role, maybe Ray Ray. He's only a sophomore but I saw him by the buses after the Georgia Tech game last year and he was extremely critical and vocal about why we didn't try to score more points on GT. We blew out GT so I was like "damn, this kid's got a tremendous killer instinct!" He seemed highly-animated and passionate, so I'm hoping he keeps that fire burning going forward.

Reed was and is extremely special though, the kind of player that comes around only once a decade, if not longer. It's extremely hard to find someone like him since A) he was incredibly gifted ON the field, B) he carried himself as the owner/leader of the entire team, a responsibility that not every player wants but one he naturally gravitated to, and C) he was extremely effective in his rhetorical and motivational speaking abilities. And to think that his only other scholarship offer was from Tulane!!!

I can't wait to see who steps up these next few years. The class of 2008 is coming of age, so someone is bound to reach the level of maturity needed to be the vocal leader of this team.

GO CANES!!!

CSM...Lyons? Who is Lyons??? LOL

Many DBs may eventually be a safety or OLB, but they ALL start at CB and then move from there based on cover skills, speed, size and willingness to make contact.

Six, the difference between the supporting cast that MJ had in 91', and the supporting cast that LJ has/had is intensity and toughness, you can't measure that in numbers. CaneSawMassacre

I'm not as sold on Lyons as other people are.. I like all of our other top DB prospects better. Gorman/Crawford/Louis Jean/ but if he was the 4th I would take him..

A couple problems I have with Lyons.

1. If you look at his film he plays almost up on the line of scrimmage. Essentially an OLB or Rover.
2. He has almost zero film of him actually covering, breaking up passes or intercepting them.
3. He has good but not elite speed for a DB
4. I think he could end up bulking up and playing OLB for us if he did commit.

With that said positives.
1. Excellent tackler/ Especially out in space (Could be a real nice SS prospect if he can build on his coverage skills.)
2. Fights off blocks very well for the high school level
3. He has a great motor though he doesn't have elite speed, so sometimes he is out of position but because of work and tenacity to get to the ball he makes tackles that can end up being back breakers in a game.
4. OH YEA... Did I mention he is not afraid of contact...

We could use another pure corner, but in high school those are hard to come by.

WOW some real haters with this whole possibility of Lebron to Miami...

I've heard a lot about how oooooo Lebron's ego is so big he would never do this...

(So if he does doesn't it prove HE ACTUALLY DOES CARE ABOUT WINNING)

He diminishes any respect or credibility as a legitimate argue for one of the best all time because he has all-star caliber supporting crew.

(Hmm Jordan had what, Pippen/Kukoc/Rodmen/Lights our Kerr to win and sprinkle in some stud defensive and team oriented players. Not to mention the zen master himself Phil)

Kobe has had (Shaq, Robert (Big shot Bob), Horace Grant, Paul Gasol, Ron Artest, Lamar Odom)

Magic Johnson (Kareem Abdul Jabbar, James Worthy)

Larry Bird had 2 or three studs

The Boston team decided championships were more important than ME FIRST ATTITUDES and created this theory that three solid players can get it done. They have been in 2-3 finals since they assembled and one 1 and lost one in game 7. They probably go to three straight if not for Kevin Garnett going down last year. And they are not in their prime.

LBJ/Dwayne/Bosh would be an insane team.. They are friends, and they positioned themselves for this once in a lifetime opportunity by ALL OF THEM GIVING THEIR ALL TO THE TEAMS THAT RESPECTIVELY DRAFTED THEM.. Some of you guys are hyprocrites. So ur saying LBJ should just rot in Cleveland because what??? He owes it to them? He should be forced to go to Chicago or New York or New Jersey because those teams have money and HE HAS TO BE THE BOSS..

Wade has already told LBJ that if he comes to Miami, he can be the boss. Wade will sit back and allow him to take a leading role and Wade will play the Olympic off the ball approach and EAT UP hussle plays. Wade has been to the promise land and knows he needs help to get back.

LBJ and Bosh have been fighting for their lives to make their teams better and their teams have not put themselves in the position that Miami did to make this DREAM TEAM become a reality.. So stop hating on Miami Heat and their fans for being excited if it happens.. And I promise if it does, the veterans will flock to Miami to win a championship.. And a new rivalry will be in competition for the FINALS.. L.A vs Miami next year.

After the Heat dispatch of the Celtics for reveng, and then Orlando for fun on the east coast.

i think Hillview's point shouldn't be overlooked. These guys have played together already. They played in the 2004 Olympics and were embarrassed to lose. They came back and played better as a team and won the Gold. That's not something that should be discounted. And one guy who called the local radio station made a comparison that I thought was on the money. Said its like when A-Rod joined the Yankees. He was considered the best player in the league, but he gets to them Yanks and its still Jeter's team but its also a championship team. He says Lebron will be the A Rod to Wade's Jeter and the Heat will be winning titles. I pretty much agree 100% with that. Wade's the man. Even without Lebron i think a title is on the Horizon.

Very true and very vault-worthy.

Bridge throwin' at the 7 on 7

If J12 rifled a few more in like that, it would've been 24 td's 11int's and 11-1 on the year.

Six

LeBron goes to bed at night, wearing either his Kobe or D-Wade pajamas .. hoping to be like them one day

Hell, LeBron probably went to bed at night during the playoffs, wearing Rajon Rondo pajamas

Six

1990-1991 season, Grant averaged 12 ppg and 8 total rebounds per game

2009-2010 season, Jamison averaged 15 ppg and 7 total rebounds per game

Both play the same position - so if you're going to switch players from different teams, it's only fair to at least switch players from the same position

Pippen was what, a Small Forward for the Bulls, right? Doesn't LeBron play Small Forward primarily for the Cavs? So, basically to compare players, you'd take LeBron over Pippen, right?

Mo Williams is primarily the Point Guard, right? So how much worse is he than the 1990-1991 BJ Armstrong, John Paxson or Craig Hodges

Let's see, well:

2009-2010
Mo Williams - .429 3Pt% (159 of 387), .442 FG% (378 of 855), .894 FT% (177 of 198), 206 Total Rebounds, 368 Assists, 70 Steals, 1,092 Points

1990-1991
BJ Armstrong - .500 3Pt% (15 of 30), .481 FG% (304 of 632), .874 FT% (97 of 111), 149 Total Rebounds, 301 Assists, 70 Steals, 720 Points

John Paxson - .438 3Pt% (42 of 96), .548 FG% (317 of 578), .829 FT% (34 of 41), 91 Total Rebounds, 297 Assists, 62 Steals, 710 Points

Mo Williams actually has better numbers than both BJ and Paxson - if you're looking at just the percentage points, you then also have to take a look at the difference in how many chances taken as well

All in all, it's a wash .. remember, I'm talking about the 1990-1991 Bulls, #23s first championship

Also, Phil Jackson was only in his 2nd of year of coaching the Bulls, after being Doug Collin's assistant coach in 1987, then getting the head gig in 1989

As I stated, you look at #23s team he won the NBA Championship with in 1990-1991 and also, just for sh*ts and giggles, who they beat in the Finals

How much better was it really than what LeBron had around him this past year?

Seriously take a look at who were on both teams, at what stage in their careers, how much they contributed in PPG, Assists, 3s, etc. It's not really that different at all

In what way was Bill Cartwright that much better than an older Shaq? Ya, I remember Shaq with the Magic - he was a freak, so as he gets older, of course the disappointment in what we're used to seeing in him dominating everyone is going to diminish a hell of a lot quicker/harder. Pippen in 1990-1991 didn't have outstanding stats, don't think about Pippen after that - think about what we're talking about, Pippen in 1990-1991

1990-1991 season for the Bulls, compared to the 2009-2010 season for the Cavs

People are so enamored with LeBron, just b/c of his physical stature. Ya, the guy can ball, no doubt about it. You can throw as many stats out there you want about how he's All-NBA this or All-First Team That ... where is he during the post-season and why hasn't he delivered - even with the excuse of who is exactly around him?

I see no one has really stepped up to try and compare why D-Wade won with the team he had around him, compared to LeBron and what he had around him this past year

One Category - Kobe, D-Wade

Another Category - LeBron, Nowitzki, Nash

Winners and wanna-bes

People can call him "King" James all they want, but it certainly doesn't fit at all

2#any Rambo movie
3#Commando

If they are going to watch a cartoon it needs to be something where somebody gets the crap kicked out of them...alot

Any more suggestions let me hear them but these boys need to become men and start watching man movies. Seriously. NO MORE SPONGE BOBS. If you go to the club it is time to start acting like men.

A-team reruns, the unit.
Give me some more man shows the Our players should have on in the locker room this year.

I love Shannon but SPonge Bob what the hell is that.

that is barely above my little pony. Go CANES.

If I had a son and he put on SPonge Bob I would punch him in the face. Even if he was only 3 and wore glasses.

At least GI Joe the greatest cartoon of all time if you are going to watch a cartoon. But then again with Jacory's interceptions last year I don't want him to watch anything where everybody had bad aim. He may think it is acceptable.

Six IMO no one on the Cavs roster can hold Pippen and Grant's jocks.

Pippen is a top 50 player all time and Grant averaged 13 and 12 for the season.

Ask this, if you replace Jamison with Grant and Mo Williams with Pippen do they beat Boston?

No doubt.

True Peebs but Lebron still got outclassed by Rajon Rondo in clutch time. Name one player who ever outclassed Jordan on the court??

And that Boston team that the Bulls beat was one of the greatest frontlines ever. This year's Boston team couldn't compare to that one as far as front lines are concerned.

Lebron just needs to get his head out of the clouds and sit down with the Master, Jordan, and ask him what he should do and most importantly, how he did what he did.

To me, Clevelands, one maybe two players away from having the firepower to win a ship.

But that doesn't mean they have the will.

And how fitting was it that he collapsed and died on a basketball court after he'd stopped playing for several years.

Lovin' this kid, esp. because he backs it up on the field. I hope he houses one against OSU.

I've said before and I'll say it again, this class has more Bosses, more Swag, than any other Shannonite class thus far.

Captain Optimist aka Cavaleer

Six, that's good and all, but coaching counts for something also, there's NO way they could've won all those championships with Doug Collins. Same thing goes for the Heat's championship year, there's NO way they win with SVG.

I'll give you that Rock but Lebron's not a Boss, not a motivator, not a terminator, at least not yet.

And by flirting with Miami he's basically admitting that he, of all the talent in the world, can't do it the way Jordan did it.

So he'll always be levels below Jordan for that reason alone.

His undoing will be loyalty. He will resign with Cleveland, who can't attract a single free agent.

That move will cost him multiple titles.

Fair enough but he's not a Boss yet.

Bosses put their team on their backs when the marbles are at stake, like Jordan, magic, Kobe, Bird, Hakeem, Clyde even Isiah and the many others who've done it less consistently.

To me he's in the same class as Tracy McGrady. Lebron hasn't done anything T-Mac didn't do before his injury. He's just had a ton more hype.

ROTFLMAO!!!

Sebastian

I was at the last 2 Sox v Rays games and hands down the worse fans in baseball are the local RedSox fans

I had a nice conversation going with some fans that were down from Boston for a little vacation and they were very nice. Of course they I asked why I was dressed in `Cane gear so I had to let them know what the priority in sports is with me

But these local fake accent Sox fans really blow chunks

LAST YEAR, THIS TIME:

Predictions from the Oklahoma City paper OU beatwriter:

Oct. 3 at Miami

Sooners roll in their toughest test yet, as Sam Bradford breaks an NCAA record with 25 consecutive completions, 14 of which are caught by possession wideout Cameron Kenney, who emerges as perfect complement to playmakers Jermaine Gresham and Ryan Broyles.

Miami proves better than its record indicates, as the Hurricanes rally to make a bowl despite starting the season 0-4.

thought i lost the first post sorry for the double

HillViewCane

If you watched the last olympics you would know that Wade and LEbron playing together is pure awesome.

Wade takes the roll of the Alpha scorer and Lebron handles everyting else. Flow if the game, rebounding, block shots assist. It really was a thing of beauty to watch. Don't forget Magic was never the high scorer on his team until the end of his career and it did nothing to destory his legacy.

people who say this will destroy James's brand have short memories and don't remember magic and bird played with at least 2 other top 50 of all time greatest players. So did russell and pretty much everybody else of note.
