It would be great to get Henderson, although he could of saved himself all this trouble by committing here to begin with. I also here that Ego Ferguson won't be going to L.S.U., what's the scoop on him? Hey lets face it, We need a stud D. Tackle too!

DZ8

I hate the Cardinals... blowing a six run lead like that... I blame LaRussa.

And its coming out that when Dwayne would interview with other teams he was then able to report that info back to the Heat. He was like a double agent. They can make a kick as$ movie about these last couple of weeks in the NBA world. Wining , dining, big money, big stars...

DZ8

And I was joking about hating the Cardinals/blaming LaRussa above... no need to defend him by any fans. He's a good manager.

Sean Spence is a Beast!!!

Very much like the recruiting part of college football, the similarities are so uncanny, it's not even funny!

Sean Spence is a Beast!!!

Ohio fans will get double the whammy, not only are they pissed off about not getting SH on board with the Suckeyes, their messiah of basketball is probably heading down here too!

DZ8

Same things happen in the NFL except they can sign the players immediately...NBA they had to wait a week.

Thats why in the NFL if you don't sign the player on the visit the odds go down considerably that he'll be on your team.

Sean Spence is a Beast!!!

Not to get off topic, but it'll be interesting to see Tebow do his jump pass in the NFL, i will have a ball seeing that! lol

NCAA Football 11 Special

For the price of $59.95, you get the following:

* 28 issues to SI
* The Greatest College Bowl Game Moments
* A copy of NCAA Football 11 (console of choice)

That's really not a bad deal if you plan to buy the game anyway for $59.99.

360Cane

^^^^^That would be at OrderSI.com.

j.w.

thanks, 360- I've got a feeling some of us may not care for the Bowl moments though- :)

They can keep this year's bowl moments, thank you.

Those at USC who may transfer:

Blake Ayles, TE

Blake Ayles is another of USC's former five-star recruits that hasn't panned out to this point. He was one of the top prospects of the 2008 recruiting class but has managed just 13 receptions for 128 yards in his first two seasons with the Trojans.

He's behind Jordan Cameron on the depth chart and could be pushed for playing time by Rhett Ellison and potentially David Ausberry. That situation doesn't bode well for snaps next season, and with no guarantee he'd be the starter in 2011, Ayles is a legitimate danger to transfer.

Miami, Notre Dame, and Ohio State all recruited him, and those options might still be available.

Listening to D Wade right now and sure sounds to me that LeBron is going to Miami....we will see!

The New Galacticos... in Miami. It's great to have some stars but TEAMS win. Hope they learn how to play as a team!

WindyCane1

"In a letter dated June 11 -- also seen by ESPN -- USC director of compliance Matt Billings informed a Pac-10 enforcement official that Florida, Washington, Oregon, Fresno State and Alabama had allegedly contacted [Dillon, the "next Reggie Bush"] Baxter after the NCAA hit the Trojans with a number of penalties, including a two-year postseason ban, for improper benefits to Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush dating to the Trojans' 2004 national championship."

Garrett had to retract his allegation concerning the Gators after he spoke to Baxter himself.

http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/ncf/news/story?id=5360449

Aside from the fact that Garrett needs to resign, this article illustrates the fact that football programs can really get in trouble for improperly reaching out to high-profile recruits and commitments, and that Shannon is very familiar with these rules and always is on guard. Even when his is interviewed on WQAM, he is always careful not to improperly discuss recruits because he understands that he represents more than himself - Shannon represents the entire program, and a slip of the tongue or a rogue recruiter can destroy what he, his coaches and his players have worked so hard to build. As a matter of fact, as Shannon hinted, competing programs like the Gators, Seminoles, even USF, USC, Tenn. that recruit S. Fla. monitor the Canes program closely and file frivolous complaints with the NCAA all the time.

Shannon is aware of the haters, and would not allow his desire to pull in Henderson or any other recruit destroy what he has worked so hard to build over the last 4 years.

That is why I say that when our local Canes sites (and therefore Henderson's father, Henderson, the anonymous sources and coaches) started to beccome relatively silent on this Henderson topic, it was a strong signal to me that its a done deal

To me, this whole LeBron "where's he going" 24/7 coverage is about as exciting as World Cup .... neither of which I pay attention to at all

I think LeBron stays in Cleveland, always have thought that. Never thought for even a second he'd go to New York like for some reason people starting pushing hard, and then it spread like wildfire through everyone that could open their mouth ..... did people just stop and think, why would LeBron go to New York? If he wants to win, then why go to a team that doesn't have the players or had a winning season since 2000?

In the last 6 years alone, the Knicks haven't even come close to having a .500 season

They're bad, just really really bad. The guy is going to get paid a lot no matter where he goes, so wouldn't he want to get paid and go to a team that has a possibility of winning it all? The Knicks are not that place

Ya, Amare Stoudemire (from Lake Wales FL) might be happy being with the Knicks now, after signing that $100 Mill deal - obviously dude doesn't really want to win, he just wants the loot

Knicks can tell LeBron all they want about how they'll sign/trade certain players on their team so they can make room for him, Amare and possibly Carmelo next or Tony Parker or Bosh, so they can have 2 out of 3 - but that seems like a pipe dream

People do remember that "King" LeBron hasn't even won a single game in the Finals, right? All this "Witness" stuff - witness what? Witness him walking off the court after the Magic beat him, not shaking anyone's hand and then going into the press conference saying "I'm a winner" - huh?

I'll take D-Wade over LeBron, sorry. I've seen D-Wade literally carry a team on his back to win a conference and world championship ... isn't that what "King" James is said to have the capability of? Think of that Heat team that won it all - they did have some veterans on it, Mourning was a blocking machine, James Posey of all people was shooting well, Antoine Walker put up 14/11 in the Finals final game, Gary Peyton hit a game winner in the Finals, etc. But realistically, that team was D-Wade and Shaqs, with the other guys knowing their role and not really expected to carry it

LeBron can hit a shot from half-court .. ohhhh, he can throw a ball from one end of the court to the other in a damn Powerade commercial - WHO CARES

Hell, even little Rajon Rondo helped carry the Celtics when they needed a spark the most during games - to beat "King" James

The sooner this whole LeBron thing is over, the better. Hell, I thought the mystery of where Tebow was going to be drafted (of course, everyone said Jacksonville, remember? ) and the lead-up to it was sickening .... the LeBron thing is just as bad

"South Beach Super Team" is almost in full affect. Tomorrow night at 9pm will be icing on the cake for Heat fans. King James is coming to the Heat. He knows his Cavs can't beat what Riley is putting together.

Wade and Bosh both said they'd take pay cuts. Bottom line...how bad do you want a ring?

Bosh, Wade and James to have midnight conference call.

To be continued...

I don't know Six, Lebron James ain't no joke. I haven't seen a player come down the pike with His blend of size, skill, and athletic ability in a while, probably ever. You can't really compare Him to any 1 of the past greats. Every time I try to think of somebody to compare Him to it's always to players. IMO, He's a blend of Magic Johnson and Connie Hawkins, with the court vision of say a Pete Maravich, JMO...

CaneRock

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Correction: Every time I think of somebody to compare Him to it's alway TWO players.

360Cane

Six must be sick. King James is the man. MJ wasn't MJ without his supporting cast.

King James is the only player that can play all 5 positions. PG, SG, SF, PF or even C.

Bosh, Wade and James would be the Big 3 to end all Big 3s.

That's how I felt when the media talked about it during the Finals all the way to June 30th. They could cut all that wasted air time out. I've only been digging deep since Monday because everything is legit.

Tomorrow will be the end of James talk.

Great points Six. What's funny to me about this is that Lebron is basically admitting he can't win a Ring carrying a team on his back. Isn't that the whole point to being King James and wearing #23??

MJ was MJ he just couldn't win a Ring without the Team.

Lebron has enough right now to win a Ring if he were 3/4 the Boss Jordan, Kobe and Wade are. And if he goes to Miami, he'll basically be saying, "I'm not a Boss cause I want to take the easy way to a Ring."

He's argubaly the most talented bballer ever but is he the best/greatest?? He's not in the top 5 at this point.

pb

Lebron is a once in an lifetime player. No one has redefined what a single player can do since Magic Johnson. And Magic had a top 3 center ever in Kareem and a top 20 forward ever in James Worthy.

His downfall has been a horrible supporting cast and terrible management.

Proof lies in the pickup this season of Jamison over Caron Butler.

Mo Williams played like a deer in the headlights against the Celtics and Jamison looked 60.

His undoing will be loyalty. He will resign with Cleveland, who can't attract a single free agent.

That move will cost him multiple titles.

pb

No player has ever won one alone.

Remember early Jordan scoring 63 against Boston and his team getting smacked down?

CaneRock

One thing about those great Bulls teams was they always had an 11/RPG player on those teams. The more rebounds Rodman got, the more shots for Jordan,Kukoc, and Pippen. And the same can be said about Horace Grant before Rodman got there...

360 - "King" James is the man?

Cav is completely correct. Where was the argument about D-Wade winning with the supporting cast he had around him?

A 35 yr. old Mourning, 37 yr. old Payton, a 25 yr. old Haslem, etc. A journeyman in Jason Williams, a player in James Posey who averaged 7 points a game?

No. The body LeBron was given, no one can deny. It's like Sean Taylor, or a Ray Ray Armstrong or Allen Bailey - blessed with amazing genes to build a certain type body

You're trying to tell me that the team that Jordan had around him when he first started winning rings is a lot better than the team that LeBron has? I'm not talking about the team that had Rodman or whatever, I'm talking about the team that had:

Bill Cartwright (10 years in the NBA), BJ Armstrong (1 year), Horace Grant (3 years), John Paxson (7 years), Will Perdue (2 years), Scottie Pippen (3 years) .... Pippen didn't become the player that everyone knew until later, Paxson didn't even make the most 3 pointers on the team (Craig Hodges did), Will Perdue was a trade deal and the Bulls actually traded away Charles Oakley the year before to get Bill Cartwright

Compare the 1990-1991 Bulls to the 2009-2010 Cavs:

Jordan 31.5 ppg
Pippen 17.8 ppg
Grant 12.8 ppg
Cartwright 9.6 ppg
Armstrong 8.8 ppg
Paxson 8.7 ppg

LeBron 29.7 ppg
Jamison 15.8 ppg
Williams 15.8 ppg
Shaq 12.0 ppg
Telfair 9.8 ppg
West 8.8 ppg

I'm sure that Jordan didn't make everyone around him better, right? Luc Longley? Will Perdue? who are these guys and what did they do without Jordan? Jordan was a whole different animal upon himself. He wasn't given the body that LeBron was - but the guy was a cold blooded assassin, you could even see it in post-game celebrations on the court after winning championships .. he stood alone. If someone came over to try and hug him, he looked as if he could care less and wondered when they'll let him go

I think a lot of people just get caught up in the hype of LeBron, simply b/c of all the Nike commercials, the highlight reels that ESPN cooks up with Jay-Z, bla bla bla

I don't care if he's "beast" or not - he still hasn't done what D-Wade has done, and D-Wade didn't get 99.9% of the hype that LeBron did while he was in high school. ESPN didn't air D-Wade's games in high school. Bernie Mac didn't do D-Wade commercials with a church choir behind him, singing about witnessing "King" James

Get outta here with all that

I just wonder when all the excuses will come to a stop, even if LeBron does get "a team around him". What is the sticking point or what would be considered a team around him? Rondo, pound for pound, made LeBron look silly, position for position, in the playoffs .... and Rondo looks like a kid that you'd expect to see at the end of your Publix check out line, asking you for paper or plastic to put the groceries in

MJ was MJ since the day he came out of his momma, and made that big shot against Georgetown while at UNC, and while at Chicago as a rookie, then later on when he un-retired to come back, and then when he was like 70 years old (actually 38), playing for the Washington Wizards - he was still damn good then ... one game scoring 51 against the Hornets

LeBron should never even be in the same sentence as MJ - ever - when talking about any kind of accomplishment

I don't think anyone forgets when Jordan was in bed for 24 hours, missing practices for 2 days before Game 5 of the NBA Finals against the Jazz - dehydrated and skinnier by several pounds. 3 hours before tip-off, he gets out of bed and goes to the Delta Center .... he plays somehow, someway, 44 minutes in the game, scored 38 points

Here's a nice little quote from some guy named Larry Bird: MJ played like "God disguised as Michael Jordan" .... anyone remember his game against the Knicks, ONLY 5 DAYS after returning from his stint at playing baseball in the minor leagues, he drops 55 points on them

I think people are just infatuated with how LeBron looks, and that's easy to see. It's like seeing some flashy sports car - that takes a complete crap though when trying to drive through mud

CaneRock

Six, that's good and all, but coaching counts for something also, there's NO way they could've won all those championships with Doug Collins. Same thing goes for the Heat's championship year, there's NO way they win with SVG.

Six, I just can't agree with any comparison between the present Cavs and the Bulls. I remember that first Bulls title team and it was rock-solid defensively, Cleveland can't shut teams down like they did. Paxon was a much better shooter than anyone in Cleveland the past few years, and Cartwright still had three years of productive play left in him then. Shaq? Last year? I saw him play live and had to ask myself, who is that fat ghost wearing Shaq's uniform? Pippen was a dangerous slasher then, an All-Star, all first-team defensive player, and an original Dream Teamer just a year later. Nobody in Cleveland compares to Scottie at that age, not even close. Horace Grant was a solid defender, rebounder, an dcould score in the low post. I would take him over Anderson Verajo (sp?) in a heartbeat.
