I know, I know football practice has started and all you want to hear about is who is "flying around" out there at Greentree Field in Coral Gables.
Or how big and agile Seantrel Henderson really is. Or how Mike James is pushing Damien Berry for the starting position at RB.
Or how maybe about why Aldarius Johnson cut his hair, re-dedicated himself and is now in great shape and looking forward to an outstanding season at WR. Or how Graig Cooper and Jordan Futch are recuperating from their knee surgeries.
We have and will continue to bring you as many updates as is humanly possible over the next several weeks leading right up until September 2 when your Miami Hurricanes begin to play games that will count for the 2010 season.
But on Sunday several Canespacers decided to take a break from the two-a-day practices and go and catch some Rays over in Tampa. No not at the beach but at The Trop where the Tampa Bay Rays were playing the Baltimore Orioles in a Sunday send off game of the three game series.
Bloggers Six (L), RaizeCane (C), his friend Tim (R) and yours truly (86Cane) got a chance to see how the other half lives when we had the opportunity to sit behind home plate at Tropicana Field and watch the Rays beat Baltimore 3-2 and take the series from the Orioles.
Tampa now sits one game behind the Damn Yankees in the battle for AL East lead.
We were close up and personal as we watched Evan Langoria as he warmed up to take his hacks at the plate. But it was Carl Crawford who went yard for the Rays in this contest.
RaizeCane was up to his usual fun and games, Captain Morgan constantly in hand (he was NOT driving).
Longoria was in a fan friendly mood as he chatted with his teammates behind home plate.
And wherever you go please be sure to remember that Canespace rules ALWAYS apply, not matter the sport, the team, or the opponent:
- U gotta show up.
- U gotta stay until the end.
- Good things are bound to happen!
Don't even ask me how I do it, I just do.
I'm just sayin...
Glad to be back SOUP. hope we get some cooler weather for the home games....

CaptO
what I meant was historically Miami doesn't blast out of the gate in the first qtr and put opponents away
That is why I think crap teams that hung around thought the were going to beat us, and some did.

Freshman Jordan Haden leaves Gators
Associated Press
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida safety Jordan Haden, the younger brother of Cleveland Browns rookie cornerback Joe Haden, has left the team and intends to transfer.

I think that's 3 or 4 now for UF that have transferred.

360, he was more of a Miami Dolphin fan that joined the bandwagon than a real Canes fan, as far as I know.
Now, THIS guy was a real Canes fan from the old days, even stayed on the field with the cheerleaders.

Practice report
by: Steve Gorten August 16th, 2010 | 1:31 PM
Since the media is only allowed to watch the first 10 to 15 minutes of each practice, UM officials put out a practice report of highlights (Note: They are not my observations). I’m going to try to post them regularly for those who are interested. Make of them what you will.
Here’s what we have from this morning provided by UM:
— WR Travis Benjamin had one of his best practices of camp, catching a number of long passes from Jacory Harris, Alonzo Highsmith and Spencer Whipple. Benjamin caught a pair of deep passes from Harris in 7-on-7 and third down drills and a pass from Whipple down the right sideline for a big gain.
— DE Marcus Robinson stood out on defense. He had a couple of sacks and at least four QB hurries.
— RB Damien Berry and TE Chase Ford each scored touchdowns in red-zone work.
— Berry and Lamar Miller each broke off a long run on the outside during blitz drills.
— Jacory Harris hooked up with several different receivers on deep passes, including Benjamin and Kendal Thompkins.
— Whipple hit Benjamin and Ford for big gains.
— LBs James Gaines and Sean Spence each broke up a pass.
— DB Jared Campbell recorded a sack in blitz drills.
— DL Marcus Robinson had three quarterback hurries in a five-play span during third-down work late.
— DB Cory Nelms had a tackle for a loss, DE Allen Bailey had a quarterback hurry and DL Micanor Regis made several stops on runs up the middle.

Offense Shines in First of Two Practices Monday
Aug. 16, 2010
CORAL GABLES, Fla. - With fall camp already more than halfway over, intensity continued to rise on the Greentree Practice Fields as the `Canes held their 12th practice and opened their second two-a-day of camp Monday morning.
The offense had the advantage throughout most of the session that lasted about two hours under upper 80's heat on the UM campus. The team focused mostly on red zone and blitz drills, with Jacory Harris, Travis Benjamin and Marcus Robinson among the individuals who stood out.
Join the Carnivale
On the final Saturday before the start of the college football season, make sure you spend your day at the first-ever `Canes Carnivale taking place Saturday, Aug. 28, in the Basketball Field House and H-100 parking lot at the BankUnited Center on the UM campus in Coral Gables.
The event, which runs from 10 a.m. through 1 p.m., will feature a variety of activities for fans to enjoy while interacting with their favorite Hurricanes' student-athletes from all UM sports. There will also be a number of other entertaining things to do, as well as food and drinks for all to enjoy.

Travis Carries the Offense
Junior wide receiver Travis Benjamin had one of his best practices of camp Monday morning, catching a number of long passes from Jacory Harris, Alonzo Highsmith and Spencer Whipple. Among his receptions were a pair of deep connections from Harris in 7-on-7 and third down drills and a pass from Whipple down the right sideline for a big gain.
M-Rob Does His Thing Defensively
Travis Benjamin's performance Monday morning might have been rivaled only by junior defensive end Marcus Robinson, who had to be the defensive star this morning. Robinson consistently worked his way into the backfield, picking up a couple sacks and at least four quarterback hurries. Robinson, who has eight sacks and 15 tackles for a loss in his career, is one of a number of talented players along the Hurricanes' defensive line.
Offensive Highlights
- Damien Berry and Chase Ford each scored touchdowns in red zone work.
- Berry and Lamar Miller each broke off a long run on the outside during blitz drills.
- Jacory Harris hooked up with a number of receivers on deep passing patterns, including Travis Benjamin and Kendal Thompkins.
- Spencer Whipple also stood out, hitting Benjamin and Chase Ford for big gains.
Defensive Highlights
- Kevin Gaines and Sean Spence each recorded a pass break-up.
- Jared Campbell recorded a sack in blitz drills.
- Marcus Robinson turned in a stretch of three quarterback hurries in a five-play span during third down plays late in the session.
- Cory Nelms had a tackle for a loss, Allen Bailey had a quarterback hurry and Micanor Regis had a number of stops on runs up the middle.
Academic Success
Overall University of Miami Athletics has an 86% Graduation Success Rate (GSR), the highest GSR ever and up from 82% in 2009. 83% in 2007 was our previous high.
University of Miami head football coach Randy Shannon has the highest Academic Progress Rate (APR) score among all head coaches in Bowl Championship Series Conferences. The APR was established by the NCAA to measure the success or failure of collegiate athletic teams in moving student-athletes towards graduation.
136 University of Miami student-athletes had a 3.0 GPA or higher following the Spring 2010 semester.

My favorite site for gathering info is football.stassen.com combined with James Howell's database. I have "known" internet-wise, the guy for almost 30 years, and he really takes his college football seriously.
Great analysis of the preseason mags, for example, which saves me lots of money....
He reccommends Phil Steele's magazine.

BTW, Phil Steele has us finish in the Top 10, so that's good news....

Solar splain me that statement plz.
BTW relay my best wishes to Mrs Solar for a speedy recovery from her prospective surgery.
I would be healed and running around whooping it up if both my knees had been done 9 months to go till the stents are seated enough for the surgeon & cardiologist.

I hope Shannon is not ruining our depth by causing our players to beat the living crap out of each other. Byrd going down and now u guys mentioned Fortson being nicked up too? I remember Shannon saying in 2008 that he worked the boys way to hard the week of the GT game and then we collapsed in that game and ended up looking awful. Here is to hoping Shannon keeps the depth right the last thing I want is to lose someone three weeks before the season starts.

Here is a stat sheet that compares where teams were ranked preseason and where they actually ended up.
Much to everyone's chagrin you will note that Boise State is the most underrated team since 1989, no matter how we try and spin, dilute or dismiss them.
The Canes meanwhile can thank the 06,97,95,and 93 editions for not coming close to their preseason ranking, bring the Canes into the highly over rated category.
We are just about to change that one though.

So my boy Udonis Hasleem gets pulled over for dark tint and then police proceed to search his vehicle not once, or twice but three times before finally finding marijuana. Also police found less than 20 grams on him, wow..Whoopdie freakin doo, our taxes at work ladies and gentlemen. Udonis is so dangerous that he would have raided the 711 later that night in effort to buy out all the Doritos and Snicker bars.. Please again if anyone knows there rights they will tell U that if a officer conducts a search with a K-9 and the dog does not find anything the first time around, there is no plausible explanation for the cops to continue to harass him if the dog failed to pick up a scent the first time. What a waste of money.... Also a sign of racial profiling..... Dark tint, nice car, rims = black/hispanic decent and possible drug dealer...That is what they believe....
