As you know by now, during the college football season we will run a "College Football Week In Review" feature on Sunday in conjunction with OGV's "The Short List" feature on Saturday to continue our on-going evaluation of the college football scene on a national basis from week to week.
Now, after week three is in the books, we once again take a look back at the games that mattered most to your Miami Hurricanes. We will review each team on Miami's schedule, every team in the ACC and the top 25 ranked teams' wins and losses that may have an impact on the Hurricanes' poll rankings, BCS ratings and bowl possibilities.
Here is week three of college football in review:
This week in the Top 25
Hurricane fans everywhere were hoping for one of those infamous "Upset Weekends" that happen every college football season. After four of the top 25 teams lost in week one and six teams lost in week two, only two top 25 teams lost in week 3.
Only #9 Iowa and #23 Houston lost on Saturday. Not exactly what UM fans had wished for. But at least UCLA scored the upset of Houston which is certain to make long-time Canespacer and part-time Bruin fan AngryCane a happy camper for at least one week.
There will be no changes at the top as #1 Alabama, #2 Ohio State, #3 Boise State, #4 TCU and #5 Oregon and #6 Texas all won easily.
The Crimson Tide built a 20-0 lead in the first quarter before beating the stuffing out of ACC punching bag Duke 62-13 and remains the Nation's undisputed top ranked team.
The #2 Buckeyes beat their neighbors Ohio 43-7, the third ranked Boise State Broncos dispatched of Wyoming 51-6 on the blue turf, and the fourth ranked Horned Frogs won 45-10 over Baylor, the Oregon Ducks put on another offensive display while trouncing poor little Portland State 69-0 while Texas was busy beating their nemisis Texas Tech 24-14.
This week in the ACC
Week three finds the ACC in serious recovery mode after a terrible performance in week two. The conference is still desperately seeking some attention and respectability on the National level.
Five of the 12 ACC teams lost their games this week (Miami plays Thursday against Pitt).
The biggest game in terms of National attention was Clemson going on the road to play against SEC competition in Auburn. The Tigers represented the ACC well and played good enough to win before falling to Auburn 27-24 in overtime.
As previously mentioned, Alabama blasted the Blue Devils 62 - 13, FSU out-played BYU 34-10 at The Doak and Virginia Tech struggled early and then spanked ECU 49-27.
Stanford crushed the Demon Deacons of Wake Forest 61-24, the Yellow Jackets of GT outlasted Butch Davis and UNC 30-24 while the Mountaineers from West Virginia outscored Maryland 31-17. Last Thursday night NC State looked strong while beating the Bearcats 30-19.
So Clemson, Maryland, Duke, and Wake Forest lost out of conference games and North Carolina lost to ACC rival GT on the third Saturday in September.
After a good week one the ACC has struggled when facing more serious competition on the big stage of the national scene. In week three the conference as a whole failed to take that next big step forward towards respectability.
Don't look now but N.C. State may be getting their groove back (did they ever have one?). They looked impressive in whipping Big East contender Cincinnati on Thursday night on ESPN in front of a National audience.
Now it is up to Miami to earn some respect back for themselves and their conference when the Hurricanes travel to Pittsburgh to play the Panthers on ESPN before a national audience. Miami is the only ACC team that was still ranked in the Top 25 going into week 3.
Teams on the UM Schedule
Four teams teams on the UM schedule lost games in week 3. The results and scores for UM opponents this season from Week 3 are as follows (teams UM will face are in bold):
- FAMU beat Howard 50-7.
- Ohio State beat Ohio 43-7.
- Pittsburgh plays Miami on Thursday.
- Clemson lost to Auburn 27-24.
- Florida State beat BYU 34-10.
- Duke lost to Alabama 62-13 .
- UNC lost to GT 30-24.
- Virginia did not play.
- Maryland lost to West Virginia 31-17.
- Georgia Tech beat UNC 30-24.
- Virginia Tech beat East Carolina 49-27.
- South Florida did not play.
Join us here each week for "The Short List" on Saturday mornings and for the "College Football Week In Review" on Sunday nights.
As for Thursday night's game on ESPN: Go Canes, beat the Panthers!

And EllIOTT and a host of other Canespace rowdies BELIEVE Team Shannon will fall to the Hookies and or Carolina and or F.S.WHO. Go bloody figure.
I'm still standing my tierra firma, and thinking Clemson will be Miami's toughest A.C.C. game this season, with F.S.Who next.
The only reason why the Noles' will be a difficult game is because of the ' rivalry factor, ' as well as Miami coming off a difficult road trek in Clemson, S.C.
Nonetheless, the Pittsburgh game should give Cane fandom a more focused reading on Team Shannon.
Now, IF the Hurricanes struggle to ' win ' at Pittsburgh, then ELLIOTT and his Cane ILK could be right bout' VA Tech, Carolina and F.S.Who. Yous knows. LOL

Jacory Harris gets hate message
Associated Press
CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Miami quarterback Jacory Harris said he received at least one racially motivated hate message following the Hurricanes' loss to Ohio State last weekend.
Harris said Sunday he received at least one comment on Twitter from someone saying the Hurricanes should not have "a black quarterback," making the revelation five days after the school told its football players to discontinue using the social messaging site.
Miami coach Randy Shannon told The Associated Press that the Twitter ban had "nothing" to do with the comment.
"Not really worried about it," Harris said.
"I know people say things like that. It's part of the sport. Got to get used to it."
Harris did not divulge exactly what was written or the sender's identity. He said he could not recall if the tweet contained any threats, and his Twitter account was deleted last week. The tweet he cited could not be found when searching Harris' former username Sunday.
It's far from the first time that racially insensitive comments have been directed toward Harris, who is black.
"It's flat-out wrong," Miami athletic director Kirby Hocutt said. "It's sad. It's disappointing. In a position that we celebrate, living in one of the most diverse communities in our nation, to have this type of behavior is appalling. It's not tolerable. Jacory is a very talented young man. We'll just continue on focusing to do the right things and rise above these type of comments."
No. 19 Miami (1-1) visits Pittsburgh (1-1) on Thursday night. Harris threw four interceptions, matching a career-worst, in Miami's 36-24 loss to Ohio State on Sept. 11.
Harris used Twitter on Wednesday to apologize to fans for that performance, and said he skipped through many of the messages he received because they were mainly negative.
"You see some things and you get kind of hurt, because sometimes it's your fans that say the things," Harris said. "It'll be the ones that probably just before the game wrote you some encouraging message, then after the game say they don't want a black quarterback here. Stuff like that. It's cool."
In his weekly interview session with reporters, Harris said at least three different times that he was not letting the comments affect him, and urged media covering the team to take the same approach.
"It's happened before, but it's nothing that I'm worried about," Harris said. "I'm not worried about it, so you guys shouldn't be worried about it. I'm OK with it. It's not a problem. Not with me."
His teammates, however, clearly had a problem with the issue.
"Hearing something like that, coming here to a diverse school, you would think we're past that," said defensive lineman Marcus Forston, who was Harris' high school teammate at Miami Northwestern High. "That's in the past. We all came to this school together. We've got a diverse locker room, and in there, you don't want to hear anything like that."
Added linebacker Jordan Futch: "We're going to take it with a grain of salt and make it a positive thing. So they're saying that we don't need that type of quarterback or they're saying we're not good enough or that we're supposed to be winning championships? It's because we are supposed to be doing that."
Miami is the only BCS school in the country with black coaches for football (Shannon) and men's basketball (Frank Haith).
Harris said he's trying to center his energies around getting ready for Pittsburgh, not on the anonymous comments from fans, whether it was of the positive or negative variety.
"It is disheartening. It's something that you look it and it kind of brings you to tears, a little bit," Harris said. "But at the same time, you know it's just a comment. Nothing else will be taken after that. There will be no steps taken after that. That's his opinion. That's that person's opinion. Got to live with it."

I was thinking Team Shannon would win by NINE or TEN points this Thursday noche.
Now, with Harris' Cane coaches and teammates COVERING his back, I'm thinking a MAJOR double-digit win! Say 17 or 20 points.

I have no respect for punk azz shallow minded racist who hide behind keyboards. I hope a slow death to all racist! I don't give a damn what color the QB is at UM as long as he gets the team in the endzone! I said a long time ago that a friend of mine has a son who is a top notch QB and he happens to be white. Some schools are telling him not to go to UM because a white QB will not receive a fair shot! I WISH NOTHING BUT A SLOW PAINFUL DEATH TO ALL RACIST!

THAT WAS THEN (2002), THIS IS NOW (2010):
ROAD WARRIORS:
Since 1983, Miami has constructed the nation's best record in road games (not including neutral sites). The Hurricanes' road record in the 20 seasons beginning with 1983 is the best among all NCAA Division 1A football institutions.
Miami has a record of 84-19-0 (.815) in road games at the opponent's home. During that span, Miami has gone unbeaten in road games in nine seasons (1985, 1986, 1987, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1996, 2001 and 2002).

Wsup []_[]family? I rarely post but when I do you know its News 2 the ears...
1. It was completely out of line idiotic, dumb, stupid, lowlife, racist for who ever thought it was a great ideato tweet that to Jacory!!!
2.Here we go again!!! Jacory has his priorities jacked up!!!
From talkin and texting T.PRYOR before the game and after, worrying about middle fingers everywhere in the osu stadium, building your brand comment about the deletion of tweeter, now worrying about a fan who is clearly is a dumb f^k -whom i guaranteed you that he would never say that to anyones face!!!
3. Why comment or worry about this Jacory??? Gary Ferman and any other UM affiliates why post this??? Why feed into negative energy???? How can this help o[]_[]r program??? -This will hurt us more than any1 will know!!!-Other College Coaches are going to eat off this! I would love im mean Absolutely LOVE 2 tell you guys on here everything that goes on with the UM program but I can't i may tell a couple but thats it.-SOMETHINGS ARE MENT TO KEEP IN HOUSE!!!
4.In the late 80s and 90s []_[]M players were called thugs, hoodlums, convicts, even murders .... But they played the game and did it with a chip on there shoulders!!!! They took pride in knowing who they were and know what they could do! THEY DID NOT LISTEN TO US FANS OR ANYONE ELSE...THEY DIDN'T EVEN LISTEN TO THIER HEAD COACH @TIMES..LOL For example, the Texas cotton bowl... or 1993@ WVa Mountianeer game when people where calling them N and spitting on them!-They had it waaayyyyy worse!!!! but they did not feed into the negativity just on WINNING GAMES!!!
5.Shannon needs to shut the whole program down -Meaning No interviews with players only coaches!!! No facebook etc... I loved to hear updates from players but the more I look into this do other programs have this much info from players from the media????
STFU AND PLAY THE GAME canes!!!! SMH

ZAKKEE...THIS FOR U:
Dan Morgan, 2000:
Miami middle linebacker Dan Morgan became the first Hurricane defender to win the coveted Butkus Award in 2000. Morgan started 43 games at linebacker, the most starts by any Miami linebacker ever and the most by any Hurricanes defensive player in the history of UM football.
Morgan helped lead the Hurricanes to a 10-1 season and an invitation to the Sugar Bowl. Morgan holds the school record for career tackles with 507 and is the only player in UM history to record over 100 tackles in four consecutive seasons. He led the Hurricanes in tackles in 2000 with 123, and he ranked in the top 10 in the nation in tackles per game throughout the season.
Morgan became first player ever to win college football's three top defensive awards available to linebackers: the Butkus Award, the Bednarik Award and the Nagurski Award.

Thanks SOUP, but I knew all of that. Just wondering where his beef with Shannon's regime comes from. He's totally not impressed.
I have total and complete respect for Dan (as a player, but as an ex- player...not so much (still to be seen or heard). WQAM interviews him every now and then and I never hear any solutions from him. He know he lives in Florida, maybe even Miami..Coral Gables to be exact?? I'd love to hear about or see him show up for practice or the weight room and give some pointers on how to get it done. Of course CMac isn't you, but he could've used your mentoring to get a little closer to greatness.
Jus sayin'
Thanks Windy1

No matter who you are, you never want to read something like that from what you think are fans of the team you give 100% to win for
It was a very very difficult loss and then to see something like that from a person you thought was a fan of yours makes it that much worse

Manny Navarro(Um) Miami Herald-Asked about taking chances as a quarterback and knowing when not to throw the ball, Harris said, "No matter what the situation the game is, I'm going to be the same quarterback. I don't think the less chances I take I make smarter reads. It always seems at the end of the game everything opens up and it gets kind of easy. I don't have to take many chances when I'm in the game, because it's basically there."
It's really the last part of that quote that opened my eyes a bit. If you think about it, the only thing that's usually common at the end of a game is that Harris is in the shotgun, running a no-huddle offense with five receivers. That's pretty much what he did in high school. I don't want to put words into his mouth. But it sounded to me like he almost admitted he's only comfortable throwing in those situations.
DID ANYONE CATCH THIS???? I TOLD YOU ALL THIS MAN IS WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY MORE COMFORTABLE IN A SPREAD FORMATION!!!!!!! WOW!!!
