With week four now in the record books, we once again take a look back at the games that mattered most to your Miami Hurricanes. We will take a quick peak at each team on Miami's schedule, every team in the ACC and the top 25 ranked teams' wins and losses that may have an impact on the Hurricanes' poll rankings, BCS ratings and bowl possibilities.
Here is week four of college football in review:
This week in the Top 25
Hurricane fans everywhere are still waiting for one of those infamous "Upset Weekends" that happen every college football season. In week one we saw four of the top 25 teams lose, in week two six teams lost, in week three two top 25 teams lost and in week four there were five Top 25 losers.
On Saturday #7 Texas, #10 Arkansas, #12 South Carolina, #22 West Virginia and #24 Oregon State all lost. Not exactly what UM fans had wished for, but still we expect to see some movement in and around the Top 25.
The shocker of the week was unranked UCLA scoring their second consecutive upset over a team from Texas (they beat #23 Houston last week) in their HUGE upset of #7 Longhorns in Austin. So, for the second straight week long-time Canespacer and part-time Bruin fan AngryCane is a happy camper!
There will be no changes at the top as #1 Alabama, #2 Ohio State, #3 Boise State, #4 TCU and #5 Oregon all won their games.
The Crimson Tide came from behind to beat Arkansas 24-20 courtesy of Razorback QB Ryan "somebody hit him in the head with a" Mallett (who according to blogger pbcfr13) channeled his inner Jacory Harris and tossed three INTs to the team from Alabama.
The #2 Buckeyes decided to bully and then play the choking game with Eastern Michigan. Things did not turn out well for the Eagles as they fell into submission and then tapped out to the tune of 73-20. Of course no college football fan would ever acuse OSU Head Coach Jim "The Sweater Vest" Tressel of running up the score unless of course he actually did. He did.
The third ranked BSU Broncos dispatched of Oregon State 37-24 on the blue turf, the fourth ranked TCU Horned Frogs laid hands on Southern Methodist 41-24, and the Oregon Ducks put on yet another offensive display while tail wagging Dennis Erickson and Arizona State 42-31.
This week in the ACC
Week four finds the ACC regaining some of that lost credibility after a terrible start to the 2010 season. The conference went 4-1 in inter-conference games in week four which should gain the ACC a smattering of positive attention and a smidgeon of respectability on the National level.
Only four of the 12 ACC teams lost their games this week and three were to other ACC teams in head-to-head match-ups as several teams began conference play.
The biggest game in terms of National attention was #19 Miami going on the road to play against Big East representative Pittsburgh and their head coach Dave "The Mustache" Wannstedt. The Hurricanes represented the ACC well and played good enough to win by 28 points over the out-classed Panthers by the final score of 31-3.
Also in the Army ambushed Duke 35-21, FSU shutout Wake 31-0 and Virginia Tech blanked Boston College 19-0. The Yellow Jackets of GT lost to NCST 45-28 while Butch Davis and UNC came from behind to beat Greg Schiano and Rutgers 17-14. Maryland beat former Hurricane Mario Cristobal and FIU 42-28.
In summary, Wake Forest, GT and BC lost ACC conference games and Duke lost the only out of conference game against Army.
As we warned you last week, don't look now but N.C. State may be getting their groove back (did they ever have one?). They looked impressive behind QB Russell Wilson and whipped Georgia Tech on ESPN in front of a National audience by the score of 45-28.
Next week it is up to Miami to go on the road for the third straight week as the Hurricanes travel to Clemson to play the Tigers at noon on ESPN2. Canespace will be at the game and hope to see you there!
Miami and NC State are the only ACC teams that are ranked in the Top 25 going into week 5.
Teams on the UM Schedule
Four teams teams on the UM schedule lost games in week four. The results and scores for UM opponents this season from Week 4 are as follows (teams UM will face are in bold):
- FAMU (2-2) lost to Tennessee State 29-18.
- Ohio State (4-0) beat E. Michigan 73-20.
- Pittsburgh (1-2) lost to Miami 31-3 on Thursday.
- Clemson (2-1) did not play.
- Florida State (3-1) beat Wake Forest 31-0.
- Duke (1-3) lost to Army 35-21.
- UNC (1-2) beat Rutgers 17-14.
- Virginia (2-1) beat VMI 48-7.
- Maryland(3-1) beat FIU 42-28.
- Georgia Tech (2-2) lost to NCST 34-24.
- Virginia Tech (2-2) beat Boston College 19-0.
- South Florida (2-1) beat Western Kentucky 24-10.
Join us here each week for "The Short List" on Saturday mornings and for the "College Football Week In Review" on Sunday nights.
As for next week's game in Clemson: Go Canes, beat the Tigers!

Alph I am right there with ya bro.
ACC gangstas.... sure
Elite team atleast in the NC picture on the regular like we should be with this much talent.... not so much.
For all of those that just got off the short bus, if the constant barrage of pics, poor execution and undisciplined play was a one game anomaly we could all deal with that. It happens. These are ongoing issues for years now so it warrants some major concern.
Big Game Blandy and his chosen one Japicky aka Jastarey aka Jatooskinnytotakeasacky just aren't that dynamic duo we all thought they would be. It's ok.
I am going to take the low road and blame it on TB3 tho. Sounds reasonable.
Sheep away and let the coaches coach, right.
It is what it is.
Ain't it refreshing to hear Mack Brown take it on the chin for that debacle and put the whole thing on he and his entire coaching staff. How refreshing.
I'm out. Dental reasons.....
GO CANEZ!!!!!

Damn Canez1, what's your suggestion? If you think UM is "doomed" until they fire Randy and get a new QB, why bother watching or posting? Seriously, why waste your time?
There's a lot to be grateful for on this team!
Go 'canes!

UCLA (2-2) do you think no.7 Texas (3-1) will be ranked behind the Canes (2-1) in the polls tomorrow???

I hate re-posting but this is so worthy. Canechic...respect:
"Hey I have an idea let's just fire all the coaches and let the kids lead the team. All these presumptions and assessments we fans place on the teams is so inane. What do we really know? Does any one of us really know what it is like to be a head coach of 50 some odd brain dead boys? And they are all brain dead if you don't believe me ask Bill Cosby.
Petrino had no more control over his QB picks than did Saban....Come on Man! Dennis Erickson's fault Threet throws 5 and right at the guys in white? Come on Man!"

Isn't Clemson Stadium called Death Valley? Or am I mistaken. This win will help the boys with their confidence. Remember it is what it is. I live in Michigan with the Detroit Lions, so I am proud of the Canes week in and week out.

ESPN 2010 Bowl Projections - Week 4
BOWL (MATCHUP)

Miami (FL) vs. Stanford
Andrea Adelson
Miami (FL) vs. Florida
Because the Canes are favored in Clemson, the Canes will likely be favored in each of their remaining 10 games going forward (provided they keep winning). If the Canes can win the games they are supposed to win, the Canes be in a BCS bowl and then and only then can they talk about a return to elite status.

maylou-- yes clemson's stadium is called death valley. i played there against them in '86 on opening day in front off 92,000 orange and white clad fans. can't wait for the orange and green to silence them next saturday.
Posted by: usagainstheworld | September 26, 2010 at 06:10 PM
Mary,
Clemson's stadium is nicknamed Death Valley. It's real name is something Memorial Stadium, if I'm not mistaken.
LSU's stadium is also nicknamed Death Valley, but they sometimes will refer to it as DEAF Valley, in reference to the high noise level.

Those M'F'ERS! Let's dissect this tripe shall we? Then and only then they can talk about returning to elite status? Are these examples of, "elite," teams;
2004 Michigan, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech:
2005 Georgia, West Virginia, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Florida State:
2006 LSU, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Louisville, Wake Forest, Michigan:
2007 Hawaii, Georgia, West Virginia, Oklahoma, Kansas, Virgina Tech, Illinois, (just for fun let's throw in the worst champ of recent history too) LS2lossPoo:
2008 Penn State, Virginia Tech, Cincinnati, Texas, Ohio State, Alabama:
2009 Oregon, Iowa, Georgia Tech, TCU, Cincinnati
Some of them have large fanbases, some of them have a huge number of wins in their program's history, others are just here because they caught some breaks that year, none of them would get a moment's attention from me talking about how they were examples of an, "elite," team. Find a better definition putzes. One that actually can be used to accurately describe what you're talking about preferably.
Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | September 26, 2010 at 06:45 PM
That was some good science, O&G in V.
Posted by: Hurri' | September 26, 2010 at 06:54 PM
Hurri', maybe they meant that an, "elite," team wins the games it's supposed to win? Oh, that can't be it either because then the 0-12 FIU team of 2006 could be considered elite by losing all of the games they weren't supposed to win anyway.

Sota no doom and gloom my man. Just calling it like I see it.
I am not saying to fire or bench anyone. They are the best of what we have to work with.
It is what it is but regardless my love and support for this program will never be in question.
Plenty to cheer for and plenty to question. What else is new.

Canez1...I emailed bg1906 and we chatted briefly about "the situation" with the Canes. I was surprised to hear EVEN HIM saying some of the things you said, not quite in the same words but, U know what I'm sayin.

Soup, public parking is limited- Free public parking is very limited, however if you get there early enough (ie 8am) you can get a nice spot within walking distance (1/4 mile or so). There is also pay parking at the YMCA that has a shuttle to the stadium.
Posted by: G | September 26, 2010 at 08:15 PM
Soup I know!
There are some really disturbing trends that have developed and keep creeping that really have ALOT of people concerned.
We can overcome them when we play lesser teams but in order for this team to take that next step that everyone is looking for these issues need to be corrected.
There is way too much talent on this team to just be 9-3 good.
IMO it all starts from the top.
We will see if these things can get straightened out as the season progresses but I have my doubts and history does not lie.
I Hope I am wrong for all of our sakes because nothing pains me more than to see my Canez look like azz.

Solar, Im guessin yall will be rollin in on hwy 123. If so you will take a left onto 93 going towards the stadium. The Y will be about a 1/4 mile on your right. Getting there at 11 will be hard pressed for "good" parkin. I would suggest the Y at that time. If you've never been to a Clemson game - all the good (close) parkin is reserved for IPTAY or (I Pay Two Players a Year). haha
Posted by: G | September 26, 2010 at 09:01 PM
Solar - correction on the above - u will take a right onto 93 off of hwy 123. Sorry.

thanks brudda!!
I don't mind paying for parking and a shuttle from the Y.
I don't think we will be there around 8 AM to park up front. Maybe we can get in around 10.
The less time I actually spend in Clemson I look at as a plus.
Looking forward to meeting you and your family there.

I can get up and be there at 5 AM if you want to.
I get up at 5:30 6 days a week, no problem there.
If you remember the river trip
who were the rest of us standing outside by the car waiting for to get out of the bathroom and get rolling? lol!!
If you want to be in Clemson at 8 no sweat
Its only an hour and a half drive.
I am 99% sure for myself there will nothing worth diking around the outside of a stadium full of red necks, that I wouldn't pay 30 bucks to avoid by parking later.
then on the other hand
I got nothing else to do Saturday and a camera so I can always shoot three hours of pictures of the locals.
Lets make our minds up if we want to be there at 8 9 10 so Hershy Ocala and anyone else can get here and roll together.
you guys make the call I'm good to go when ever
