Your Miami Hurricanes will travel north to the Steel City to face the Pittsburgh Panthers on Thursday night. The nationally televised game (ESPN) will be Miami's second chance of this very young college football season for the 2010 version of the Hurricanes to prove to it's fans and the entire Country that they are indeed back and worthy of being a Top 10 team once again.
I think they will. So, confidently I will step out on the ledge all alone and without a net to offer you this bold prediction: Miami 38, Pitt 20.
Now, I am not going to waste your time or mine by trying to pretend that I have the facts, the stats, the wisdom or the inside information as to why Miami will demolish the Panthers at home Thursday night.
I will not prove to you that spending 15 minutes with Geico can save you 15% on Car insurance. Or that this game is going to be so easy for Miami that even a Caveman could do it.
I am not going to break down the game, the players, the teams, the coaches or the game day weather (get a grip man) or how any of these things will affect the outcome of this ACC - Big East match-up.
I am not going to go into how Miami is a 3 point favorite on the road playing in a hostile environment for the second straight week. I will not bother you with injury reports, game planning details or any specific game-day strategy.
Sure I could site the fact that Miami is 14-2 in Thursday night games and have attracted three of the largest television audiences of all time when playing mid-week on the four letter Network.
I could go on and on about how Miami head coach Randy "The Boss" Shannon and Pitt coach Dave "The Mustache" Wannstedt are best of friends from way back in the day when The 'Stache recruited, coached and then hired The Boss while both were at UM and later with the Miami Dolphins.
I could tell you about Pitt's tough running game or Miami's vaunted passing attack and how the opposing team's defenses respond to these two areas are the "keys to the game".
I might take some time to site the fact that Miami's special teams may actually be special again with Lamar Miller returning kickoffs and Travis Benjamin returning punts have Hurricane fans excited and opposing coaches worried.
I could even dig deeper and reveal Miami's offensive coordinator Mark Whipple's ties to the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers and how he looks forward to returning to the Steel City and Heinz Field.
No, I am not going to do that at all. I am certainly not going to try to get you to "save the cows" and go to Chic-fil-A and eat more chickin'.
What I am going to do is ask you to get on the bus with me, ride into Pittsburgh and destroy the Panthers.
I am going to ask you to believe that Miami is finally going to put together that one big "breakout game" that we have all been waiting for. That on Thursday night your Miami Hurricanes are going to turn the proverbial corner and play solid, no make that spectacular football in all three phases of the game from the opening kickoff to the final whistle.
Some Hurricane fans (like Zakkee and his better half seen above) have proclaimed that if not for a few turnovers, a few dropped passes and a few missed tackles against the Buckeyes this game may very well have already happened on National TV just last week.
I say this week it will. I say UM 38, Pitt 20.
The time has come to win a big game on the road and move back into the National spotlight.
Not because I can prove it with stats, or facts or wisdom.
No, simply because I believe it.
You should too...

Miami 41, Pitt 21
Player of the game - Who else? Jacory Harris
Honorable Mention - Lamar Miller (Mancrush? Maybe lol)

Yes, he wasn't the first to ban twitter, but he was ONE of the first, and didn't do it just as a "me too" knee jerk reaction.
You see how some of the media folks are disappointed, since this takes away an avenue for getting dirt on the players, but it is still a smart move.
Woulda-coulda-shoulda done it sooner? Nah, doing it now gives a clear REASON for the ban, doing it earlier would have been criticized for micromanaging and being overbearing.

Posted by: SOUP | September 21, 2010 at 09:39 AM
ungar
As soon as he saw it was an issue, he reacted, but he has a tighter rein on these players than most coaches.
What I posted was Peterson and a lot of other coaches Banned Twitter BEFORE they played their first game.
That post on Boise was from August 10 so he had banned twitter before that date.
So to me it is on Randy, but he is still learning, and hes doing things to correct whats wrong.
He could have avoided the entire situation, like a lot of these other head coaches did by just saying lets do what we all said we came here to do.
To Randy's credit he did shut it down.
Watch next season and see if he bans Twitter before the first game just like the guys that saw it coming did this year.
out for awhile

I believe the defense will dominate the inexperienced Pitt O-line, and I believe our O-Line will dominate their D-Line. When you add their linebacker issues and suspect secondary it adds up 34-3 Canes. This is a huge chance to earn RESPECT and I BELIEVE the Canes will show the country they deserve it!

If we can, we SHOULD run up the score.
Check the scores from last week and see if other teams are doing it and get back to me.
Posted by: SOUP | September 21, 2010 at 09:35 AM
Oh, I know they are, but remember,we have a double-standard against the Canes.
Utah player celebrating a TD? Nothing.
Canes player celebrating a TD? Excessive Celebration.
Alabama player pushing back when hit late? Nothing.
Canes player pushing back when hit late? Unsportsmanlike Conduct.
Florida quarterback throwing a late TD on a 30 yard pass? Nothing.
Canes backup player scoring on a 30 yard run? Running Up The Score.
We were the first, and the Miami Rule is still remembered by the refs as a Miami-only rule.
Watch the celebration after a TD in for example Notre Dame versus Michigan. That would get flagged if a U was on that helmet.
A Florida player tackled the Tennessee QB deep out of bounds by the ankles, no call. That would get flagged if a U was on that helmet.
To me, we get more points in pulling Jacory with a 35-0 lead and then just playing defense, like we did against FAMU, than to score a late TD with our starters to get to 52-0. And since last year, our backups only got in due to injury (we had few blowouts, plenty of tight games), then bringing in the backups improves our depth and reduces the risk of injury and fatigue to our starters.

Been true for three years, and Houston has gotten him at a bargain. If he was in a big market on a good team, or had the attitude of a Moss or Owens or Ochocinco, we would hear more about him. But he is the BEST!

Braylon Edwards is so corny (DWI last night and punched one of Lebron's corny friends before he left the Browns--and caught a case for that as well). The dude he punched is the #1 flunky of Lebron's #1 flunky, so that makes the guy (they call him Duck) a flunky2 or flunky squared?? Whatever the case, Duck is about 5'5 135..no lie! There shouldn't be ANY reason to snuff a pip squeak like that...just a sucka move by Braylon. He used to walk thru Beachwood Place mall (suburban Cleveland) with a weird entourage of two stylist (with Jackie O sized glasses on IN the mall, picking out his clothes for him..whatta douche) and a bunch of suspect looking fruity dudes who were trying to look hardcore?? He'll be the next to shoot himself or get caught with a transvestite. The rumor here was that he was gay (seriously, heard it more than 10 times).
His only redeeming quality is his new beard...lol! (seriously)

I love how the University of Florida's PR department has used Mark Dantonio's health problems as a platform for Urban to say: 1) "hey, look I'm not the only one". 2) "I made some calls to see if he's ok...he's a classy guy"...I believe he may have made the calls, but why tell us about it??? If you did that, its between you and Dantonio's family. Is he more trying to prove that **he's a classy guy as well**. 3) Is there any coincidence between his classy remarks being released (shown as a topic on ESPN) amidst the press his 30th arrest has garnered? Counter attack.
He's getting press for wishing that Dantonio gets well...wow.

Posted by: canezilla | September 21, 2010 at 12:23 PM
This one is going to be close for a while- Pitt. plays conservative, NFL style football, where they keep the game close for 3 quarters then try to beat you to a pulp in the 4th. But they don't have the horses on this team. We pull away late to win 27-13.

Exactly! re: Urban. He has no idea how to be (maybe because there is no "how"--you just are or you aren't) naturally classy without it being premeditated. Prophet Muhammad said that charity and good deeds should be done in such a discreet manner that when giving or doing a good act with your right hand, your left hand shouldn't even have any knowledge of it (and vice versa). Wow...your other body parts shouldn't no about it--let alone other people.

WTF is a matter w/ you people?
Let's just win the game...and shut the F up...

Yep, and I read that the Jews have a special word for acts of kindness, Mitzvah, like in Bar Mitzvah and Bat Mitzvah. I learned that from Dave Berg, the old cartoonist from Mad Magazine. He said they have levels of Mitzvah, the highest being the one where you do an act of charity and the person you aid is not even aware you did it.
The lowest would be the one where you do it just so you can call the media about it right afterward, which removes the value of the charitable act completely.

I can't stop watching that video clip of the oversized headed Bobcat, with a little body, running full sprint down the field toward an oversized headed Nutman, with a little body - and then trying to tackle him
Then, the oversized headed Bobcat loses his head, puts it back on quickly like if someone were to unmask Nacho Libre, gets back up to his feet and then chases down the oversized headed Nutman to the endzone to jump on his back
I think I've added at least 50 views to that Youtube clip by myself
I refuse to call that Nutman by his mascot name, Brutus. He's Nutman to me
Something about mascots kill me. Even on EA Sports NCAA Football, we used to play the option of having mascots vs. mascots and it was great
I'd pay money to have a mascot hang with me all day, not talk but just hang out and go everywhere with me - they have to keep in character. That mascot would roll to work with me and everything .... people would wonder why the Hamburgler or Grimace or Sebastian or Cam the Ram (Colorado State) or Otto the Orange ('Cuse) - was following me around work all day. They'd be jealous

RU Kidding? That is my FAVORITE non-title bowl game. But in that case, their players were BEGGING to be beaten down, and when the refs started us off 1st and 40 (that has GOT TO BE unprecedented), we knew that it was time to let it all hang out.
But unless Pittsburgh does something really rude, we can turn off the offense once we have the game in hand. I have no problem with a shutout, but no need to keep throwing the ball for long TDs when the game is in hand.
