The Rolling Stones were absolutely right when they told us some time ago:
"U can't, always get, what U want."
Miami was unsuccessful on their first attempt to regain National stature against Ohio State in Columbus last week.
Turnovers, dropped passes and missed tackles prevented the Hurricanes from winning the game against the Buckeyes.
This week your Miami Hurricanes travel on the long and winding road again to face Dave Wannstedt and his Pittsburgh Panthers at Heinz Field.
So the way we see it is: "Why wait to get some on the weekend when you can get some mid-week?"
Your Miami Hurricanes are looking to score and score BIG as they stroll into the Steel City to play with the Panthers.
And, If you have been paying attention lately around here we think they will. It will be tackles, takeaways and sure handed catches that will lead your Hurricanes to victory this week.
That is the boys from the 305 will walk into the 724 and simply take over and take whatever is important to them (a victory) and their fans will take whatever they want as they leave (hide your women and children).
Here is why you should be paying attention in your UM history class:
- Miami leads the all-time series with Pitt: 21-9-1.
- The teams often met when Miami was a member of the BIG EAST conference. The last meeting came in 2003 when the Hurricanes came away with a 28-14 victory at Pitt.
- The last time the two teams met Miami RB Jarrett Payton led the UM offense, rushing for 131 yards and a touchdown while Hurricane LB Jonathan Vilma led UM with a game-high 11 tackles to go along with nine wrap-ups from LB D.J. Williams.
- The series began in 1950 with a 28-0 win for Miami in Pittsburgh.
If Miami wins it would be the seventh straight victory over Pittsburgh going back to 1998.
Randy Shannon is in his fourth season as Miami's head coach and owns an overall record of 22-18. Dave Wannstedt is 36-27 in six years as Pittsburgh's head coach.
Shannon and Wannstedt have a unique bond, as Shannon served as a linebacker under Wannstedt when he was the Hurricanes' defensive coordinator from 1986-88 when Jimmy Johnson was UM's head coach. Shannon also played under Wannstedt while he was with the Dallas Cowboys and coached with him at the Miami Dolphins.
Since his time in Coral Gables, Wannstedt has served as the Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator, the Chicago Bears head coach, an assistant with Miami Dolphins and head coach of the Dolphins before returning to his alma mater.
Matt Bosher and his fans and teammates need your support to ensure that the Hurricanes win on the road.
We say whatever it takes to get the job done is what we signed up for.
We have already asked you to get on the bus with us as believers, so get on board!
We have predicted a score of: UM 38, Pitt 20.
So you are either with us or against us.
What will it be?
Another day Another First

Whether it's Pitt or anybody else, I just want wins on the road. And not just wins, road domination. Go into their house and trash it.

say what?! i'm with old skool on this one.

from previous blob--
when is the last time you've seen one of our receivers catch a quick slant or a quick out, on the run, and then pick up the yac's (yards after catch).
our receivers look good coming off the bus. after that-- not so much (except hank).
Posted by: usagainstheworld | September 23, 2010 at 06:45 AM
If Miami plays the way they are capable of playing I see Miami winning by 17 points. If we see the same Miami team we have seen for part of the past two seasons making stupid mistakes and getting dumb penalties then I see a much closer game even a Pitt win.

And I would add one more thing, NO INJURIES! Get in, get out, and stay healthy!
Posted by: BahamaCane | September 23, 2010 at 07:19 AM
when's the last time you've seen one of our receivers running loose through our opponent's secondary-- taking it to the house? when's the last time you've seen one of our receivers running away from the secondary? would love to see that this game.
is it because of the deep routes we run and the 5-7 step drops. but we run shotgun too right? somethings not adding up here. . .
go canes anyway!

I think it was 2002, or maybe 2003, or it could have been 1986?
Seriously, U watch college football all weekend and see other teams making these types of plays and us...well not so much.
This week that all changes. U just watch!nd see

I can do some damage with a Louisville Slugger, but I'd also like not to get that up close and personal if I don't have to. I'll go Hank Aaron on some gator that eyes me crooked, thinking he wants some pineapple tasting human.

LMAO!
About Wheedon Island Preserve...been there done that. They have a kayak rental place right there on Gandy just north of the road to go to WIP.
U meet them at the dock and they drop the kayak in for U right there and then pick it up 4 hours later for a reasonable price.

six,
for pure stress release there isn't anything like Kayaking to me.
You can paddle hard and fast for exercise. You can glide with the wind to just get your mind right.
You can fish, swim, explore places no one else can get to.
Best thing maybe, after the modest initial investment you go cost free every time.
Here is a clip from from Juniper Springs some kayaker shot
click in at 30 seconds and watch a little.

About to drive up to Pittsburgh for the game, don't worry guys, "We got this!"
Zakkee I'll be to your left in sec 107, I'll spot your beard, or your lady with an I heart Matt Bosher t-shirt:)

I'm going with 27-14 canes.
I think we run run run early and often with Berry and James. Miller will get some playing time. I think we will see a lot of screen passes to the RB and bubble screens to the WR. Later in the second half with the running game doing a decent job then you will see the play action over the top plays. The D will struggle early to adjust to the gameplan of Pitt which I think will shock us and Dave will take some chances passing on DVD! and doing a lot dink and donk passing to his RB to hope that we miss our tackles. I can see us giving up a quick score, but then we settle in and cruise to an easy win.

from www.hurricanesports.com:
Shannon and Wannstedt are two of just 10 BCS head coaches currently coaching at their alma maters. They both take a considerable amount of pride in their programs, their universities and cities. When the two meet on the field prior to Thursday night's game, there is sure to be some strong emotions from both the mentor and the student.
There won't be many surprises. If any two coaches know what the other wants to do at a certain point in the game, its these two.
"When you look at Miami's football team -- when you look at what they do on offense, defense and special teams -- you see some very similar characteristics to our team," Wannstedt said. "He comes from a very similar philosophy background as mine, and you see that when you watch them play."
Thursday night in Pittsburgh, two of college football's great programs will be led by two of college football's closest friends.

Ok, this is how I see tonights game....
Im not trying to be a smarta^^, but until he proves otherwise, you have to plan for Jacory to throw at least 2 picks that will kill scoring drives. I think Lewis will get some yards as the D will bend but not break. Miami has to run the ball, and maybe go over the top with playaction once or twice. Pitt will be a lil tougher than some expect IMO...With that being said...Canes 27 Pitt 16..........Go Canes!!!!!!!!
P.S. #7, please make a play tonight!!!!!!

Uh, not to be THAT guy, but the 2003 game's final score was a deceptively close count of 28-21 if I'm not mistaken thanks to a garbage TD that went to Fitzgerald.

Wish List against Pitt:
Run the ball: The big 7-9 yard gashes each time they hand off.
Tackle: Gang tackling, tired of seeing players whiff because they are going for kill shots. Leave the hit stick for video games.
Ray Ray and Telemaque: Time to make plays. No more Sean Taylor or Ed Reed comparisons based on "potential". Time to man up and get it done.
Passing Game: Give Jacory time. Jacory reads the defense and takes what the d gives him. J12....you don't have to put the team on your back. Let your play-makers make plays for you.
Linebackers: Good pass coverage. No tight end or running back big passing plays.
The last 4 plays for J12: Take a knee, Take a knee, Take a knee, middle finger to the haters then Take a knee.

Oops, 2002 was 28-21, the 2003 game was a 28-14 improvement, I juxtaposed the results for some reason, they really need to play this series more than once ever seven years is the lesson here obviously! Garbage time TD to Fitzgerald though was still right.

Back to being Ungar.
Well, so far the defense has given up one really long pass play all season, when the defense was in too tight. I bet we can expect them to continue to keep that going against a team that has had passing issues AND running issues this year.
After what happened to Nick O'Leary for flipping the bird, I sure hope JH does not ruin a blowout win that way. He can hold up four fingers at the U, but not the middle finger.
Posted by: Ungar | September 23, 2010 at 10:24 AM
I'm going to Hong Kong on Saturday so I am so stoked that this game is tonight and not this weekend! I get back to Tampa next Saturday at 11am, so I hope my plane is not late for the Clemson game!
My hotel said I would have to find a pub to watch the Dolphins game, but are there pubs open at 8 am on a Monday morning over there? If anyone knows of a sports bar or pub in Kowloon that would be open that early I would most appreciate it!
