So you want instant 24/7 updates on your Hurricanes? Do you need that 'Canes fix immediately when news occurs? When a UM player gets laid out in practice do you want to hear about it FIRST? How about getting the 411 straight from the player himself?
Well then U better get to know Twitter 'Canes fans!
Just so you know, I'm not a techno geek who has the latest gadgets or is addicted to the Internet. I do not participate in Facebook-ing or Myspace-ing.
As the 88 year old Betty White said on SNL recently “When I first heard about the campaign to get me to host SNL, I didn't even know what Facebook was. And now that I know, I've got to say, it sounds like a huge waste of time!”
So, when Twitter started I checked it out for about three seconds and then moved on. No thanks.
That was until recently when I heard about players sending out “tweets”. I logged back in to see what my Hurricanes were up to in the “Twitterverse” and guess what I found: Jacory Harris doing a live Q&A at midnight with all of his followers!
This even when he was in the midst of a grueling training camp. Jacory posted something like this around 12:00am: "Hey everyone. I can't sleep. Post questions to me and I promise to answer them all."
So, myself and hundreds of others began to post questions and J12 took the next hour and a half to answer questions and even post some questions of his own back to us. Needless to say, just like the first time we all stumbled upon The Space, I was hooked!
So even if my good buddy Randy Shannon doesn't tweet, trust me there are plenty of Hurricanes players, UM AD administrators and media types who do. Here are the basics so that you can join the 24/7 Miami Hurricanes information overload along with me:
1. Go to twitter.com and sign up for a free account and create a user name
2. Begin searching for players, former players, media types, coaches, websites, and all things CANES!
3. Click on the “follow” icon when you find people to begin the process of filling up your “timeline” with all things CANES!
4. Dive in feet first, reply to other posters to join in the conversations.
The first time Coach Frank Haith, Jacory Harris, or Marcus Forston (for example) respond back to you in a real time conversation you, like me, will be HOOKED ON TWITTER. The bottom line is that if you are like me and can't get enough of the Miami Hurricanesthen U better learn to Twitter 'Canes fan.

Can't afford him. Plus I'm not sure he wants a college gig?
Anyway, Shannon is going to be here a long time. He will get better, the team will get better, the results will be better.
Hang in there Canes fan!

Dont get me wrong I don't want him to go. I'm the few that think he has done a good job and Saturday was on the players not RS
Posted by: pbcfrcane13 | September 13, 2010 at 10:11 PM
It seems like a great source of info BUT it is disturbing that he is dong a Q&A at midnight. AND there was a tweet from DVD's account during the game - I am assuming that was a friend or family member that sent it as it expressed displeasure at some of the fans who I guess were expressing displeasure with DVD.

Thanks for the correction. First in sacks and second in defense in the ACC.
National rankings not so good
Posted by: WindyCane1 | September 13, 2010 at 10:21 PM
players don't need to be tweeting during the season.
This isn't a knock on 411 at all.
He knows he and I are tight for a long time here
Tweeting is here to stay for sure. til the next big thing.
But for me personally I don't need to know instantly what everyone is doing.
I guess I just don't care?
I know I'm in the minority, on this but I just figure I will know when I need to know.
Posted by: solarcane | September 13, 2010 at 10:21 PM
windy, no sweat brudda,
I was gald to see you took time to post some stats.
We only need to lead the ACC, the national rankings will be determined by how different conferences play defense.
Remember there are teams like Houston, UTEP that can score 60 points a game and play no defense.
We lead in the ACC we will have the opportunity to play someone out of conference again at the end of the season and we will know how far we have come.

That Twitter stuff IS a distraction.
There was a really good linebacker named Brian Bosworth that let his appearance and celebrity become more important than his play.
By the time he realized it, his celebrity status was that he was a clown.

I like your comment solar...
By the way to answer your question Storm was in full pads against OSU. Also late in the game Berry seemed hurt...
Posted by: Montreal-Cane | September 13, 2010 at 10:53 PM
SOUP here is a suggestion for the blog...After every games bloggers could rate
the starters on offense and on defense.
Posted by: Montreal-Cane | September 13, 2010 at 10:57 PM
monte thanks,
I have to admit there were a couple moments here and there that I wasn't watching the game, I had that burning in the pit of my stomach.
I'm hoping Storm hangs in with us.
He has a shot at being the starting back on a top 5 team in a year or two if he can be patient.
Posted by: solarcane | September 13, 2010 at 10:59 PM
Got this from Eye on the U, Manny's blog
I agree with it 100%
I'm tired of looking at the same crap from last year. RS must go. Lack of game preparation, no matchup advantages, poor tackling, and no game adjustments. Hey Randy, how about some tackling drills this week? How about abandoning that pro-style two receiver set? How about 3, 4, or maybe 5 receiver sets getting our receivers in man-to-man situations where they can make plays? How about some bubble screens, slants, or half back passes? Again, let's challenge every defender and see if there 3rd best corner or linebacker can run with Lamar Miller. Open up the playbook and stop making Harris throw into double and triple coverage (Hankerson had 3 men defending him on that first int) then blame him later.

If we do this we win every game from here on out.....
Posted by: elliott | September 13, 2010 at 11:05 PM
Damn I got my Pitt tickets through UM and I am in section 505, I would have been better off going through the Pitt ticket office!
Posted by: canesteeler | September 13, 2010 at 11:07 PM
We need to abandoned that Pro style for the rest of the year (except running plays of course.. Switch up 5 wr sets with Streeter, Miller, Benjamin, Hankerson and Latwan Anderson. Go for the mismatches not sold on Whipple and I am starting to real doubt him as an offensive coordinator.
Posted by: elliott | September 13, 2010 at 11:08 PM
Almost makes me want to get a twitter phone or twitter computer or however you tweet...
Human nature to always compare to the best. If I could, I would compare this years team to the last Canes team to win a bowl game, 2006, but what fun would that be?
Posted by: DZ8 | September 13, 2010 at 11:10 PM
canesteeler.
Stick with the 505
you know UM would recognize your name and put you out in the parking lot. lol!

Any of you guys with a PS3, going to get the Move bundle?
I went with the PS3 after two Xbox RRoD episodes
I must say the PS3 is less noisy, and is smooth as can be for a couple months in.
I use the PS3 exclusively to roam around in Red Dead Redemption, while slaughtering anything that moves.
I have a Wii but it is so inaccurate as far as motion goes nobody uses it anymore.
I'm thinking of getting the Move stuff for company, and the kids to mess with.
What do the gaming experts on here think?

Right now, I am not sure I want to see this team rely on Jacory. I want to see them run the ball. I really think the rely on Jacory to win the game experiment needs to end. Establish the run, even if this means you play the freshmen if they are better run blockers, and then carefully let Jacory throw. But do not rely on Jacory at this point, he hasn't earned it.
There are 5 talented runners and none of them has the propensity to turn the ball over like Jacory. Keep feeding them. We have a very good defense. Let us stop losing games because we are relying on one guy.

Exactly what I've been saying/thinking
Posted by: DrewZ2 | September 14, 2010 at 12:37 AM
I posted this elsehwere but it really is a continuation of my earlier thought first posted here.
I think the Jacory experiment is over. He has been treated like the second resurrection of Ken Dorsey but the results are not the same. It is time to move this offense from being on his shoulders to a more balanced one.
Damien Berry, Mike James, Lamarr Miller, Storm Johnson, and Eduardo Clements are all great backs. Instead of relying on Jacory and his propensity to make mistakes, let us feed these guys over and over again, and play defense if the offense can't pick up ten yards in three tries. This defense was very good, even after Jacory put them in tough spots time and time again. Imagine if they had a ball control offense to work with.
The Jacory experiment has failed. It is time to find the best run blockers on the team, and I don't care if they are freshman or not, and let them open holes for the talented running backs. Most of these running backs were more highly rated at their positions than Jacory out of high school. In appropriate spots, let Jacory throw, but do not rely on him to be the offense.
The Dolphins made the same mistake with Marino. Yes, he could dazzle in individual games. Clayton and Duper were wonderful receivers. They never won a championship because it is too much, in a team game, to ask one guy to carry the load. Ditto Fouts, Tarkenton et al. It wasn't until Jimmy convinced Aikman not to make mistakes that the Cowboys won a Super Bowl post Landry.
College is no different. Haven't we seen, year after year, that gun slingers can give their teams good records, but not win it all? McCoy last year, Bradford the year before, and you can go down the line. Teams win as a team and do not rely on the quarterback only to win games.

This chick wears this kind of stuff while interviewing professional athletes - IN THEIR LOCKER ROOM ... and she wonders why she got some cat calls from some of the players?

http://pasion-aguila.webatu.com/albums/994/Ines%20Sainz%20MxFutbol%20%2820%29.jpg
GTFO of here with her or anyone being surprised that it happened with the Jets -or- any team for that matter. I don't think female reporters should be allowed in the locker room anyway ... how many male reporters are allowed into a female volleyball locker room after a game to interview them, while they just got out of the shower or are getting ready to shower?
No one should ever be surprised by what they see or hear when they subject themselves to going into a locker room of a team. That's their territory - not the reporters or the media
Am I saying that Ines Sainz should wear a big baggy nun outfit? No. But you can still wear clothes that are professional looking and not look like you're some star f***er groupie that tries to land athletes for their cash
Unreal that this is even a story

Ken Dorsey is the 3rd string QB for Toronto in the CFL. He is helping a lot with coaching. He said that he would love to coach at any level eventually with the Canes...I think his career as a player is almost over. I think he could help the offensive coaching staff and our QBs
at the U starting as a graduate assistant in the near future...

On this we agree. Still some will complain that if the Canes go to the running game that "this is too conservative an offense".
A balanced attack is good, but you can't afford to constantly fall behind early.

If IcePick gets his head together the next four games we will be a lot more tolerant.
Watching Phillip Rivers get pizzed at himself and his receivers, reminded me how his fire carried NC State and Chuck Amato for 51 straight games.

Finally the dr. has cleared me to leave the house as much as I want
Meaning I will be at the Pitt game which equals a `Cane victory
JMO but when the `Canes are in a 2 WR set it needs to be Hank and the Byrdman
Shannon and Whipple just have to remind J12 that this year not everything is on him to win the games. He has the cast around him that can take that load off of him
Just play within yourself and the `Canes will prevail every single time

-----------------------------------
411, no one realistically expected the Canes to go undefeated. We knew they were going to loose at least one game and they did.
In a way i am glad the loss came to the #2 ranked team because now the Canes know they still have some work to do, got humbled and now will be more focused the rest of the year.
A loss to a mediocre Pitt team, an ACC team, or a FAMU or South Florida team would have been more devastating.
Like i posted previously, the o-line played better than expect considering their opponent and their lack of experience. If they stay healthy, come mid season, JH will have all day to throw and those RBs will have huge holes to run through.
I am very excited about the rest of the season.
11-1, Go Canes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
