Thanks to a certain Canespace blogger that will not be identified to protect his identity (Canes411), Twitter is officially dead at the University of Miami.
Surprisingly, some fans are saying that this may be the best thing that ever happened on any blog anywhere! Even more shocking is that most fans are agreeing with the decision wholeheartedly.
And while we may have heard from many sources "that breaking up is hard to do" we simply are not sure what effect that this policy will have on Hurricane players, employees and fans.
Certainly killing Twitter in today's Internet age of Facebook, MySpace and every other known form of digital communication that exists must be much more difficult than that right?
Well, apparently NOT so much.
According to several sources the UM Athletic Department issued an ultimatum for all football players to immediately terminate their Twitter accounts effective today at 2:30 PM.
The question is does this policy apply to all UM athletes. Are UM women's volleyball players and UM men's swimmers covered under the same policy?
Are UM cheerleaders covered under this policy?
Only time will tell, but let it be known that we approve this policy for the privacy of the players, the focus of the teams and the prevention of all of the many unfortunate things that could happen if the wrong information gets in the wrong hands.
So to UM officials we say: GOOD JOB! Winning more games is more important than knowing what each student athlete is doing every minute of the day.
And now for a personal message for UM QB Jacory Harris:
- Lose the tweets
- Lose the image
- Gain the respect of your teammates and UM fans by winning games.
Doing those things will take U further than your wildest dreams...
Yo Yo

``I called Coach Shannon, who is out recruiting, and he told me he's asked players to shut down their Twitter accounts,'' UM sports information director Chris Freet said. ``The goal is to limit distractions and help them focus. There are bigger goals than tweeting.''

Good evening everyone. Glad I watched the game at the Canes party in Columbus and didn't pay $500 for two tickets. Can you imagine?? $500, getting our butts kicked, and pouring rain. I was inside where it was misery watching the game, but at least we were dry and still had some money left. And dummy me, befoe the game I bought an authentic jersey with number 12 on it for Jacory Harris. I'm just saying it's for Jim Kelly's number 12!!!!

One down, now get Facebook and MySpace and then you'll have a team focused on football rather than, "precious," online social connections.

I think Randy can acheive both if he stays loyal to the Sear Trophy and classroom and not to the player.

The only people who should be pissed about the OSU game are the 12%'s. Everyone else has predicted at least one loss this year and hopefully, OSU was it.
Peace...

I love the last part of the comment he slips in there
The school did not announce any disciplinary action against the 5-foot-9 junior, but offensive coordinator Steve Addazio said, "Chris Rainey is not a part of our team right now. That's really all I have to say on that."
The right now part adds alot to it, meaning we should be seeing him sooner then expected

I want to apologize for one of my last posts. I am not trying to say anyone's life is pathetic. We should only care about what they do in practice and gameday, not their personal days. Word? Word.
Sinister, I am also sorry for ranting on about some of your posts. I am just a HUGE believer, if you don't have a solution to the problem then do not talk about it as being a problem. You are who you are, and that's that.
GO CANES!!!

With IcePick having 5 or 6 hours a night to blow now, maybe he mentors Spencer or studies film with his receivers.
What ever he does with his spare time now, I think he comes out next game and sets the tone that he's ready to earn our respect and praise instead of just expecting it.
Posted by: solarcane | September 14, 2010 at 09:19 PM
Soup, it all depends on how focused these guys are. I havent' watched ANY Pitt film, but judging from their play against Utah and NEW HAMPSHIRE, I'd say the ball is in our court.
If we get focused and start playing with some semblance of Hurricane Football, we'll win easily.
If they come out unfocused, hesitant, J12 especially, or whatever the hell afflicts them on road, they'll lose.
Pitt isn't necessarily dangerous but they have two serious weapons, RB and WR, and if you let a team stay in the game at home, you're asking for the worst.
Here's what UM-Pitt is SUPPOSED to look like.....Hurricane Football....
Now as you watch this, ask yourself "what's the difference?" I don't think that team is much faster, if at all than this team, or even much bigger or stronger.
So what's the difference? Talent at a few key positions aside, to me, the difference is INTENSITY, PASSION, CONFIDENCE INDIVIDUALLY AND COLLECTIVELY....
Now, is that something that can be coached? Or does a player simply have IT or not?
I think with a certain talent level it's coached. Watch this and tell me what y'all think it is. Try not to use hindsight. Just watch the play/

Posted by: The Truth | September 14, 2010 at 09:25 PM
Cav, the road woes aren't anything that any other team doesn't struggle with due to the inalienable fact in any sport that it's harder to win on the road than at home. Now the false starts, meltdowns in spotlight games, defensive breakdowns, these things are problems you can trace to lack of focus and thus possibly coaching or bad recruiting. Struggling to win on the road is the last thing great teams make the leap away from on their transition from merely good teams to what they end up looking like as champs. As long as the lessons learned last week are used to translate road trips into wins these next two games we'll be just fine.

That game was postponed a week due to you know what in 2001 and the D wasn't as sharp I thought with the scheme as a result.

Some interesting news about Outside World and Heritage Kayak warranties.
I showed Brent (the manager of Outside World) a small hairline crack at the seat of my first kayak.
He said that's not supposed to happen.
He took a picture with his phone, emailed it to the CEO of Heritage in North Carolina.
The Prez looked at the picture, looked at my serial number, and told Brent destroy my 1st Kayak, he is sending me a 2011, free , it will be here in two weeks.
That's a real company right there.

Coaching? No.
Talent? No.

Cokerites? No.
Twitter? Yes.
The reason we lost to OSU is because of Twitter! That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! lol

OGV, that's fair. And that's why I put up the USF game cause we hadn't looked that sharp since GT last year.
And I remember going into that game being very concerned about WHICH team would show up.
That's why I say CGNC is on to something with the road game thing. USF has been the lone legitimate road victory other than FSU since 2005 and before that probably 2002.
J12 in particular has played pizz poor in a lot of those games, even the Ws, like Wake last year.
Hopefully last week was the wakeup call for these guys to figure out that on the road that have to be even more intense and focused than at home.
Ultimately though, real Hurricane Football is as intense at home as it is away, for the opposite reasons of course but the intensity level is just the same.

I like the move by Shannon. Make the players earn their twitter acounts back.
Now J4int can focus reading team defenses and instead of reading his tweets...
I have a feeling Facebook and Myspace will be next if the players start updating their status prior to a game.

Jacory needs to pay more attention to his playbook, teammates, Whipple and the game plan his twitter account, outfits, hairstyle and what he is going to tweet next. J4INT (and the press that follows him) has become too indulgent in the creation of Jacory's cult of personality.
I (and Jacory's P-O'ed teammates) would rather have a focused QB than a self-created "celebrity."

The morning after J12 held his midnite Q&A, Whipple gave the do not throw picks in big games practice session. Jacory must have been too tired from answering 411's questions to retain the strategy. So yes, it is ALL twitters fault!!! Good riddance.

Jacory and his style, and his goat and his twit are signs of what is wrong at UM.
Argue all U want but this is the source of all the problems. Style, attitude and character have everything to do with winning games.
Ray Lewis would EAT J12 for breakfast and then pass him for lunch on a very normal day at Greentree Field.
We do not have any Ray Lewis' at UM right now...and that is the problem.

The whole Ines Sainz incident is stupid
If she hadn't written on her TWITTER for everyone to see, then no one would know about this .... and why exactly did she have to write it on her TWITTER?
I'm completely with Darnell Dockett on this one, when he talked about it on his twitter - "I don't know what was said to her or whatever but u just have to know u going into a TEAM LOCKEROOM, and if its that serious WOMEN STAY OUT!"
You're in the territory of the athletes, being in their locker room. The media basically is lucky to even be allowed there anyway .. and while they're in there, they shouldn't be wearing the kind of damn clothes that Ines Sainz chooses/chose to wear in there. Wear that somewhere else, but you don't wear it in a situation where you know someone is going to say something
Like I said, what do you expect when you dress like this while interviewing athletes?
http://www.strangerockstars.com/images/content/160143.jpg
Ines Sainz is loving this as well, b/c it only gives her the type of publicity you can't even pay for and she's milking the hell out of it
