After all of the well deserved criticism and complaining about your Miami Hurricanes unimaginable loss to lowly Virginia last Saturday the promise of yet another another college football season now appears to be slowly sinking over the horizon like just another South Florida sunset.
The dreams that were once filled with National Championships, ACC titles and the brilliant colors of "orange on one side, green on the other side" now are fading once again to shades of grey, then black.
And yes, while there remains the slim possibility that Miami could wind up in the ACC title game with a little help from their friends, the stinging and humiliating losses to FSU and UVA will not fade from Miami football fan's memories easily.
Sure winning the ACC crown and going to a BCS bowl game would assuage much of the pain and loss experienced during the regular season, a season that was filled with so much hope and now appears to have hit the proverbial wall one more time under head coach Randy Shannon.
When you are young and literrally live and die with every Hurricane game, losses tend to affect you tremendously and for long periods of time. As you grow older and gain more perspective on what is really important in life, losses by the Hurricanes carry less weight in the overall scheme of things.
Back in 2007 when Canespace was first started, blogging was all the rage. It was new, exciting and building and growing the blog meant everything to me. When you invest much of your own money and most of your spare time in anything it becomes a big part of your life and eventually serious business.
Sometimes too serious in fact. I'll admit, there were probably times where I took the blog, and myself, a little too seriously. I worried too much about how many site visits we would get or wondered about how many comments bloggers would post. I banned some bloggers and damaged relationships with others. To me it was a competition, and one I was bound to try to win or die trying.
Yet soon FaceBook, Twitter and other Internet applications would emerge to compete with the blog and it too became less important in my life. So let this be a lesson to all of you Hurricane fans out there:
Football is important, blogging is cool but there is much more to life than that.
In fact, I'd rather be fishing.
Longtime Canespacer SolarCane (seen above) and I recently had a chance to kayak and fish the beautiful and prisitine lake at Uncoi State Park in northeast Georgia. Solar was gracious enough to have me stay at his spacious home in Cleveland, GA for a few days before and after the Clemson game.
And while the game was great and Miami won I would be lying if I told you we had more fun at the game than we did kayaking and fishing.
At Unico State park we spent the entire day on the lake with no other boats in site, managed to catch a few fish and basically relaxed, laughed and shared a great day on the lake.
So when you feel yourself getting all caught up in college football, or wins and losses, and you feel like you are going to break or break something, take a step back from the stadium, the television or the blog and remember that there may be just a few things a little more important, and possibly even more fun, than watching the Miami Hurricanes play football 12 times a year.
You should try it sometime. Really, you should. And if these pictures don't help convince you, then there may be no hope for you at all.
I'm just sayin'...

BTW, how OLD is that shot with the Ibis and the Miami Guy.
1. The beak is all screwed up.
2. The head is not swollen enough.
3. The mustache is still black.
Stunning that so much has changed in three years.

Speaking for myself
I will not miss 1 snap of any of the `Canes game to make a statement about anything
I will not wear anything that will call or support the firing of someone on the `Canes staff
I go to the games because I fully support and back my `Canes
I have never nor will I ever boo my `Canes. Im one of those fans that will always be there no matter what
I might be alone in this view but I believe Whip and Morris will mess better together
Well - Well - Well
Waa Waa Waa!!!
WE Suck everybody sucks...
What?
This post above was written by a true fan!
Should we criticize the players? The Coaches?
Can we question the plays, the emotion?
YES WE CAN...
But I ask this...
Can any of us, U or me even lace up in their shoes, Strap up and do any better?
I watch 300lb 5'6'' peewee football coaches tell they're kids they can't run fast enough?
WHAT?
These young Men are attending college and live in one of the most distracting enviroments in the world.
I applaud them when they win. I pray for them when they lose. I support them ALWAYS!!!
CANE YESTERDAY
CANE TODAY
CANE TOMORROW

miamicane it really does not matter we really have no pull and in the end this team is about the players. It belongs to them they run out on to the field with their names on their backs...you want to win, you will. Not really sure what these kids really want but it sure does not look like they want to be winners! Balls in their court, on their field and at their school, it is up to them.
Posted by: canechic | November 01, 2010 at 08:35 PM
So then Virginia's players WANT to win but Miami players don't?
UVA came into the game 3-4 and 0-3 in the ACC so in those games they WANTED to lose but then SUDDENLY thay all wanted to win.
Yet Miami in fact wanted to lose? How did we get ALL of the losers?
OK, yeah I get that.

OCALACANE... I'm currently in Ocala. (Girls' State Golf Finals.) We're playing at Ocala Golf Club. (36 holes over Tuesday & Wednesday)
Played a practice round today... kinda hilly round here compared to the flat SW FL courses that we're used to.
That reference to the 300lb coaches is SO true... so many @ssholes WITHOUT A CLUE running their mouths and ruining the fun for so many kids.

Are those.... Orange seats?
I remember a green and gray Dodge Dart that I could take apart like a Lego toy. Engine was so tiny, had enough room in there to fit two suitcases. Gas in the carbeurator was the cure to everything.
Never had the need for speed, just the need to get to work and have a spacious back seat.
Maybe we just need to pour gas on the team, just on one leg, I bet they would play with a little more enthusiasm. Tell them penalties will get the lighter brought out. You know, "Light a fire under them!"

OCALACANE
Yeah, I had thrown that post out there the last blog thats was going wild about making statements to the current staff
I just know me and my wife(when she can get time off)will not miss 1 second off any game and I refuse to leave no matter what the score is until the game is over.
They dont make a rock hard enough to beat me over the head to give up on this staff and dang sure not going to give up on any of these players
Im here however long it takes
We lost Saturday and while I was upset and shocked about it the 1st thing I was trying to do was call and find the condition of JSilk. At that point I was way more worried about the health of #12 then I was about the future of Miami. I deeply felt bad for #12, he has given us everything his body could give
Go `Canes

For all you Donna haters take some time to read this article:
When the Badgers battle top-ranked Ohio State at Camp Randall Saturday in this year’s biggest game, the person who started UW’s two-decade football ascent will be in the crowd.
Donna Shalala, who as University of Wisconsin-Madison chancellor hired athletic director Pat Richter, who then hired coach Barry Alvarez, who then won three Rose Bowls, says she plans to attend with current Chancellor Biddy Martin.
In talking with Shalala last week, I asked her to recount her UW days and proudest accomplishments, and she laughed and said one topic that others often cite is the university’s vastly improved football program.

Is it safe to post here again/yet? It ain't the team or attitude of old, but it's still the U (and a better one at that, if we don't look at the football team's record). That being said, they still want the money the football team brings in, and given the nature of our fans, the price of the tix and parking and the the current economy, this type of performance isn't going to cut it. Anyone want to guess at the size of the crowd for Maryland?
Gonna be away for Maryland and VT myself, so I'll have to settle for USF in a few weeks.
On a positive, anybody think the very young OL is going to be something else in 2-3 years?

Jon Gruden please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shannon lost the team

Native, this guy wants to take credit for the Fax machine? Nah, that was his dad's generation that made that.
Guy is an obvious Arlo Guthrie fan. It was an Alice's Restaurant kind of start there.
"I am looking at the screen, and then I am looking at this guy, and then I am looking at the screen, and they didn't give a number to call, since I had found him."
"Here's to living off your dad as long as you can"? Wow. And his own fans don't catch the irony of it.
Posted by: Ungar | November 01, 2010 at 09:28 PM
Gruden needs to be coaching somewhere
It wont be here but he does need to be outside running around coaching

The pass to throw comparisons for the last 5 Canes games.
In the Clemson game: 33 passes/43 runs, Canes win
In the Florida St game: 49 passes/36 runs, Canes loose
In the Duke game: 34 passes/42 runs, canes win
In the UNC game: 32 pass/42 runs, Canes win
In the Virgina game: 42 passes/29 runs, Canes loose
Anyone see a trend?

Teams we have played in conference so far have a combined 9-13 ACC record and yet we lose to two of them.
This year's Coastal was all but handed to us.
I don't see the division or conference being this soft again for awhile.

Yea but then, by 2009 we would be ACC champs, top 10, everybody hating us... might I say fearing us also.
Just need a few more pieces of the puzzle, maybe a boss or hog, Randy will get together before you know it.
