When your Miami Hurricanes played the Florida State Seminoles at Sun Life Stadium on Saturday night on national television, they coulda made a statement that they are back in the National Championship picture.
Four years into the Randy Shannon era, with all of the "Cokerites" now purged from the team and with the current players that were recruited and coached by Shannon himself having enough experience and talent, the Hurricanes probably shoulda beat the Seminoles, especially playing at home.
If Miami had won at home against FSU the 'Canes certainly woulda moved back into their rightful place among the top 10 in the Nation, especially with the many shocking upsets that were happening all over the Country on this second Saturday in October.
Fans like John and Tammy of Sebring (pictured below) shared their tailgate goodies with other Canes fans but were worried about their team's ability to prevail in this tough and always competitive intra-State rivalry.
With all of the storied history of Miami vs FSU series in the record books something had to give on this lovely Fall day in the 305. Miami fans felt that the breaks and Lady Luck would certainly be on their side. I mean seriously, how many times had she reared her beautiful head for the Hurricanes against the Seminoles and their former coach Bobby Bowden?
While the odds-makers had the Hurricanes down as 6 point favorite and many Miami fans thought that theIr team might actually blow out the 'Noles this time around, what most Hurricane fans like Canezilla and his lovely wife (seen below) were hoping for was another wide right, or a wide left, and a win.
Unfortunately, someone obviously either didn't get the memo, the email, the Tweet, the text message or simply forgot to tell your Miami Hurricanes that they had to play the game and win to make all of the "shoulda, coulda, woulda" stuff actually happen.
Instead, the team with "The U" on their helmets decided to take the night off and spend their time watching these three girls above and the team with "The Spear" on their helmets dance in the end zone on Miami's home turf.
But then, who can blame them, right?
But fear not loyal Hurricane fans, a record of 10-2 will get you a rematch with these same Seminoles in the ACC title game in Charlotte, NC on December 4, 2010. And oh, what sweet, sweet revenge that would be.
Let's update the base 4-3. NFL team line up all over the place and bring it from all angles. Team know how to attack our 4-3 and it is up the middle....

From another blogger named "Dukie Lang":
I'll pull out a George Carlin quote.
I don't know if I'm QUITE as this point, but I can use a good laugh.
"I've decided it's not necessary to suffer and feel crappy just because my teams suck. What I do now is cut 'em loose for awhile. I simply let them go about losing, as I go about living my life. Then, when they've improved, and are doing well once again, I get back on board and enjoy their success. Yeah, I know, I can hear it: diehard, ***hole loyal sports fans screaming "Front-runner!" Goddamn right! Don't be so ***in juvenile. Teams are supposed to provide pleasure and entertainment, not depression and disappointment. "
RIP George Carlin.
RIP Canes' season.
Posted by: SOUP | October 10, 2010 at 08:59 PM
Every year this team has improved under RS.
This year was suppose to be the year the Canes take that positive leap and go to the ACCCG!
if the Canes dont make it to the ACCCG, then this season is a step back. I personally, never expected this team to contend for a NC this year and I know most of you didnt either.
10-2 is still possible!
VT had a tough loss to James Madison and rebounded.
UNC started 0-2 and is playing better.
This isnt the time to fold the tent. So lets keep our heads with 7 games to go. The season isnt over yet!
ACCCG or bust!
Go Canes!

Ah, for one of the first times I can claim to be happy to have been forced to give up tickets to a game to attend a major family occasion. As the updates came in all I could do was try not to think too much about the game. The occasion turned out to be a nice distraction instead of my annoyance level going off of the charts.
I can't claim to have any opinions about who played how, given that I haven't actually seen more than a few highlights yet (and I'm not sure I can do my usual and watch the replay with one as bad as this one was). Just gotta wonder what being on national TV and losing at home this way, described as practically giving up toward the end, does to the image and potential for any near-term improvement. I'm sure the questions about coaching and Jacory's mental development have been discussed enough in the prior board, so I won't go there.
The sun did come up today fortunately, so there's always hope, eh?

If CaneSpace had existed back in 1998, I do wonder what the reaction would have been when Syracuse put 60 points on us?
Given Jacory's injury problems, I think Shannon should go back to his 2008 model and split time with Harris and either Morris or Highsmith.

Ok, i have something to say about last night....I believed in this team, but not anymore, its the same old story. 2007, after beating Texas A&M, the Canes come out against UNC and go down 3 touchdowns in the first half...In 2008, they win a big game against VT, ranked in the top 25, then let GT run all over them. 2009, after beating FSU, and GT, they lay a egg against VT. Bounce back and beat OU, then lay another egg vs Clemson. Then last night...Its pretty sad when Allen Bailey is yelling at guys in practice for goofing off, I'm sorry, this isn't a team of freshmen, they should know to take every game serious. No one gives a damn about your "swagger", your not the Canes team of old, please don't think teams are scared of you after beating Pitt and Clemson. But Im going to blame myself for feeling this way about this team. Its my fault for believing J12 was a potential Heisman Candidate, when hes not even close. I thought he was a leader, but obviously hes not. Sorry everybody, just had to blow off some steam...Its just sad to see this team cant handle success, and rather be underdogs or counted out before they wanna get their act together.

Monty...See U at the VT game. Solar and I will be there and we gonna have GOOD time!
I have a MAD tailgate thing going on in the East 12 area. Music, food, beverages and dancing girls are everywhere.
U should meet us at the Hampton Inn so we can all ride together. I have the parking pass so U can save $25 at the stadium.
Posted by: SOUP | October 10, 2010 at 09:10 PM
What I mean is that in 1998 we were blown out by Syracuse in such a fashion that had not been seen in perhaps two decades. Absolutely humiliated. If CaneSpace had existed, we would have been calling for the head of then four-year coach Butch Davis. Yet within two years the pieces were in plcae for a run at the national championship.
Perhaps it is too soon to judge four-year coach Randy Shannon.

I have lost faith in the team and coaching staff. Fuck traveling to the GT game! How could they play such uninspired football in front of a national audience and and a sell out after being on the road for a month. Nothing and I mean nothing leads me to believe this team can run the table! I love the U but they make it very difficult to stay a diehard fan and to continue having me spend my money to see shit!

Got home 3 hrs ago. Im sick to my stomach, depressed and can't get this awful feeling out of my system. Im sure just like you all i had numerous of family /friends attend the whole weekend. I love seeing CANES EVERYWHERE to the - Walking in a Miami restaurant / store,The tailgates, alumni sharing memories, little kids wearing the U gear on throwing the football, the bar b que, the student section being rowdy, to our cane mothers and wives being just as crazy as the men, to the cane fans from across america traveling to see this game. I even had the privilege to go on the field before the game with my cousin(former player/alumni). Also I had the pleasure of being introduce and chatting it up with Edge James after the game(Mind you I left @ the beginning of the 4th LOL). To our players and our coaches to allow that to happen last night on national t.v. leaves a sour taste in my mouth about the program. President Donna Shalala is definitely included.-(The program is at disarray) Im loss for words. Its like lemonade! If made right its SWEET! If not its BITTER but you still LOVE this drink.

LOL@roachcane..
Im good man, just had to get that off my chest..I'll be sitting on a comp next Sat watching and rooting us on vs Duke...Its just sad some of us show more emotion then some of the guys on the team.
Posted by: Playa..The Blogger Formerly Known as Rashad | October 10, 2010 at 09:23 PM
Other thing...I get tired of reading how players come out and vow that "games like these will not happen again", that they "will never get complacent again". Most of this team played in last year's Va Tech game...didn't they remember (besides Bailey, who was on teammates in practice this week)? All I am left to think is that if the Canes go on a roll again, get a few wins, then the complacency will return and they will unexpectantly get smacked down by a Ga Tech or a South Florida. Then repeat the cycle of how "this will not happen again", "we will not get complacent again."
Last night's first half performance was ridiculous. Regarding Jacory's injured shoulder and groin, if he is too injured to make throws and help his team, and if Randy Shannon refuses to pull him out as long as he is still alive, then Jacory should pull himself out. If Randy Shannon was head coach at Texas I think that Colt McCoy would have played the entire BCS title game, even if he could not lift his arm past his shoulder. Let a healthy Highsmith or Whipple play! The Canes are supposed to be loaded with skill position talent, right?
Posted by: TonyCane | October 10, 2010 at 09:25 PM
I went to the NW and Central game friday night. Bridewater is built just like Jacory but he is a better athlete with a stronger arm. The entire game he may have taken 4 snaps under center. WE are bringing in a great athlete who has skills but we are going to put him in a pro style offense which makes no fukking sense. UM it is time to change schemes on offense and defense. I know changing schemes doesn't mean a damn thing if players don't perform but schemes allow you to use your athletes much more than this boring ass pro style offense. If our tight ends suck open this shit up and go five wide, spread the defense and use your athlets in space! I am done! Pissed off, fed up ......
Posted by: canesteeler | October 10, 2010 at 09:29 PM
Whipple is similar to Charlie Weiss in that they both seem to think they have a “schematic advantage.”
They believe so much in THEIR schemes, that to change anything hurts their ego more than anything. Inevitably, the team suffers!
The defense will be fine.
ST needs a new coordinator.
And RS and Whipple need to have a heart to heart!

Who on here is an MD? How do you know it's more than a nick? It might very well be a nick, or just a very very bad case of pussitis. (note the sarcasm there...). You guys are right. He's been off. That clemson game he wasnt even in the vicinity about 2/3 of the throws. he just isn't healthy.

I HAVE BEEN WITH CANESPACE SINCE THE BEGINNING . THAT BEING SAID I MAYBE POSTED A TOTAL OF 5 TIMES . TO SAY I'M A TRUE FAN IS THE LEAST HELL MY SON'S NAME IS SEBASTIAN MARINO IF THAT TELLS YOU ANYTHING ABOUT MY LOVE FOR THE CANES AND FINS !!! BUT I DIGRESS I HAVE STUCK BY AND DEFENDED JALOPPY (AS MY FATHER IN LAW CALLS HIMS)UNTIL LAST NIGHT . HE WAS NOT A TEAM PLAYER AND HE DID NOT SHOW ANY LEADERSHIP . I CAN NOT TELL YOU HOW I PISSED I WAS .EVERY TIME THE CAMERA SHOWED JALOPPY HE WAS ON 1 KNEE BY HIMSELF . HE WAS NOT WITH HIS TEAM MATES .HE WAS NOT ENCOURAGING THEM HE WAS BY HIMSELF
A REAL TEAM PLAYER WOULD SAY " COACH I AM DOING MORE HARM THAN GOOD RIGHT NOW" OR "CMON GUYS LETS GET ARE ASSES IN GEAR "ANYTHING INSTEAD HE WAS IN HIS OWN WORLD.
WHEN YOU ARE GRABBING YOUR GROIN MORE THAN YOU ARE HANDING OFF THE FOOTBALL . THAT IS A GOOD SIGN THAT YOU NEED TO TAKE UR SELF OUT OF THE GAME . I DONT KNOW WHAT HIS
LINE OF THINKING BUT COACH SHANNON
SHOULD HAVE YANK JALOPPY AFTER THE 1ST HALF. SPEAKING OF COACH SHANNON
FOOTBALL IS A GAME OF EMOTIONS AND FOR ONCE I ENVIED THE SEMINOLES.I SAW DUMBO ( NOT A TYPO) GETTING MAD , YELLING , SLAPPING ASS WHATEVER IT TOOK TO MOTIVATE HIS TEAM .HE DID IT!!!HE GOT IN CHRISTIAN PONDER FACE WHEN HE SCREWED UP . HE THEN HUG CHRISTIAN AT THE END OF THE GAME . NOT US OUR COACH JUST SHOWED NO EMOTION AND IT RELECTED IN OUR PLAYERS AND THE WAY THEY PLAYED LAST NIGHT. I WILL NOT QUIT LOVIN THE CANES . I WILL HOW EVER QUIT DEFENDING JALOPPY UNTIL HE GET HIS ACT TOGETHER. LAST BUT NOT LEAST NEXT WEEK WE PLAY MIGHTY DUKE . AT 1-5 MAYBE WE SHOULD LET AJ AND SPENCE
TAKE TURNS AND PLAY THE HOT HAND UNTIL IT COOLS. GUYS I KNOW I'M NOT ALONE IN THIS SO BEAR WITH MY FRUSTRATION . SOUP GREAT JOB WITH THIS SITE !!!
Posted by: sebas13 | October 10, 2010 at 09:38 PM
Tonycane, good point, Jacory hurt us more than he helped us. Why not play the back ups? Jacory knows, he's not getting pulled, unless it's an injury. Maybe Shannon, don't want to bruise J12 confidence? He was struggling just getting the ball to the backs. Some players need to be benched, to get a wake up call. I'm a fellow graduate of Northwestern. J12, Aj, Forston, playing with no emotions, AJ, dropping passes and he caught one, and didn't get the 1st down, was barley touch, Forston, got blew off the ball, all night long.
Posted by: 1miamifan | October 10, 2010 at 09:40 PM
bahama,
I said almost the exact same thing.
I think Whipple believes his press about developing quarterbacks( guys that were mega talented to begin with and would flourish with or without him) , having an explosive offense and most of the other crap that he has proved beyond a doubt is inaccurate.
I think Jacory needs a rest for sure.
The kid isn't right in the arm or the head right now.
A disaster against Duke could be his undoing physically and mentally for the rest of the season.

I've been done with Shannon and Whip since last year! Now everyone is starting to see what i've been trying to get through to peoples head. Hopefully a miracle will come and prove me wrong!
Also long ago with zeekee that the pro-style b.s under the center is pure GARBAGE! We have ballas in the back field and we don't even use them and Wrs in my eyes no 1 in the nation can cover. WTH???
