Today at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville Virginia your Miami Hurricanes will face the Virginia Cavaliers in an Atlantic Coast Conference match-up.
Here is a little more information about Scott Stadium:
Scott Stadium is situated on the campus of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. The stadium was built in 1931 and is the oldest football stadium in Virginia still used today. The stadium has a seating capacity of 61,500 and had a record capacity of nearly 65,000 for the season opener of the 2008 UVA football season. Scott Stadium was built as a replacement for the old Lambeth Field, or Colonnades as it was called. The stadium bears the name of UVA benefactor Frederic Scott and is one of the most picturesque settings in college football with a wonderful view of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
The game is scheduled for noon and will be shown on ESPN as Miami looks to take another critical step towards their first ACC title.
If the Hurricanes can manage to get past UVA and Georgia Tech on the road, and overcome Maryland at home in between those two games, the final conference game on November 20 against Virginia Tech at Sun Life Stadium will likely be for the ACC Coastal Division crown and a spot in the conference championship game on December 4 in Charlotte, NC.
But first Miami must keep its focus squarely on Virginia today and avoid a mid-season let down that the Hurricanes have been prone to over the last few years. It would appear on paper that the Hurricanes (5-2, 3-1 ACC) enter this game with several advantages over the Cavaliers (3-4, 0-3 ACC ).
Miami is a heavy favorite (+16 points) to win their third game in a row (after the tough loss at home to FSU) and to notch their fourth ACC victory of the 2010 season.
However, Miami must be cautious not to come into this (or any) game over confident and play slow, sloppy or lethargic and the Virginia game appears to be a perfect set-up for this to happen: A road game against an over-matched opponent after a big win at home against a bitter rival.
After the Hurricanes big win last week at Sun Life Stadium over ACC rival North Carolina, Miami must stay motivated and play with the same level of energy, enthusiasm and sense of urgency that led to the victory over the Tar Heels.
I think they will, so I am making the now infamous call once again:
"I GOT THIS!"
Score Prediction: Miami 34, Virginia 13

on one hand this is a shame. miami being held to a higher standard (yes i know our past precedes us), but this is ridiculous. other teams get away with this stuff but we get penalized. our kids are trapped between the lame expectaton by the administration (and implemented by boss) to be expressionless robots and the unreasonable and unfair standard that are kids are held to by the refs and the national media.
to be truthful-- i likey the way this is shaping up-- another us-against-the-administration-media-refs-and-the-world! keep hatin, keep tryin to confine us, limit us, hold us back, and watch us come out swingin haymakers. i wish that shannon would take the risk to let these kids express themselves-- let the sentiment against us rise like a tidal wave-- and watch us blow it back-- with the force of a hurricane(s)!

28 - 17 Miami...I hope I'm wrong, but we normally play down to our comp..and after a big win we get big headed..if we blow UVA out, then its a great sign of maturity for our Canes...imo

On the U Va vs Miami poll on their blog the voting is going 80% Miami blows UVA out.

I keep bloody bloviating, that Miami wins going away.
Freak', it don't take no SIX'er too realize that. LMAO
Miami, F-L-A Hurricanes 41
Cavaliers 6
The only way the Canes don't break the 35 POINT BARRIER, is IF the Whipple Factor takes a ' step backwards, ' again. LMAO
Seeing that Virginia is ' pass happy. ' Perhaps Miami's D-secondary brings one back for a T.D. Yous know, an INSURANCE touchdown. LOL

An excerpt from a Hurricane blog. A bery interesting read. http://blog.allcanes.com/
" I also want to see Mark Whipple calling a game that suits the strengths of J-Harris, instead of one that asks him to do too much. "
>>>>>>>>>
Macjons, imagine that. haha
Whipple really doesn't call plays to any QB strength to be honest because he prefers formations that telegraph the play to the defense before the snap of the ball.
Like that pivotal 4th and 2. He was already set in the Idiot Play- no RB, QB under center.
Thankfully SHANNON CALLED A TO and let Mini Martz use that jug-head of his to put us in a call that actually DISGUISED something. Results?? 25 yard play-action pass to Cleveland.
Posted by: Captain Optimist aka Cavaleer | October 29, 2010 at 07:56 PM
However Captain O, you'd have a mighty difficult time trying to reason with the SIX'er, and The Whipple Factor. LOL
Seriously though, it don't take no major college football Einstein, to know Miami's execution ain't been on par. Yet, it's getting there.
But, that SIX'er only BELIEVES what he what's to BELIEVE concerning the Whipple Factor.
In other words, it's ONLY bout' the execution with the SIX'er. And nothing else. LOL
Chit, that SIX'er probably doesn't take into consideration, that opposing D-coordinators have the ' book ' on The Whipple Factor. F.S.U.'s Stoops anyone.
Miami, F-L-A Hurricanes 41
Cavaliers 6
BLOODY TAKE THAT, U'all DOUBTING Cane-ites. LMAO
Posted by: macjones | October 30, 2010 at 10:46 AM
Anything less than Miami scoring 40+ and keeping Va to 10 or less will be a huge disappointment in my book. If the offense does not start clicking against this defense today I hold no hope for the season.
Man up boyz, and get it done! Miami 44-7
Posted by: 411 | October 30, 2010 at 10:49 AM
Coach Shannon has let the guys run with their emotions on the field now and I dont see him changing things up. Of course letting it get to the #31,#1 point on the field might be toned down a bit because of the penalty. I agree with the penalty on that.
Forget what the media or anyone has to say about Miami
Just take a good look at the graduation rate that RS and his `Canes have produced and the lack of convicts they have running around the field and thats all the proof anybody needs to know about RS, the leader of men
Its 3 hours a week that these kids can let loose and play with emotion...so my guyz from the U, go do what it is you do
RS has these guys keeping clean off the field and out of the police blotter. Prepared to be men when their next phase of life away from the U starts
So to anyone from the media to fans of other teams that want to question if our reputation is a problem
I say: Pucker up and kiss my big fat white azz

" "That's definitely something we're just going to have to deal with," Harris said. "We really can't worry about it too much, even though we've been getting it a little bit after the North Carolina game." " Brandon Harris
" "You hear things like, 'Oh, here they go again. They're going back to this. They're trying to go back to Thug U.' It gets to the point where you're like, 'OK, if any other team does this, it's not an issue, but when we do it, we're looked at in a negative aspect.'" " Brandon Harris
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Voila! Harris bloody SPEAKS trUth TO POWER. Can U'all dig it!
Seconding B.H.'s notion, I've been of the same ' school of thought ' as Brandon, concerning having fun between the lines of competition. Matter of fact, I've been bloviating about that for many, many moons. LMAO That's for the six'ER.
For instance, my personal BETE NOIR team goes beyond any reasonable display of celebration, be it in stinkin' Lincoln or on the road, and freakin' ' gets away with it ' approximately 90% of the time. Go figures.
Oh that's right. That Herbie Cornhusker program is one of the upstanding, proud, traditional, conservative, ' never do no wrong ' icons of major college football.
So, they get the bloody ' benefit of the doubt ' from game officials, approximately 90% of the time. LOL
Bottom line is this, the Miami, F-L-A Hurricane football program is ' damned if they do, and damned if they don't regarding ' theatrics ' on the turf. LMAO
In other words, it's a ' no win situation ' for Coach Randy Shannon and his Hurricane program!
Yeah, yeah there are some of U'all Cane rowdies whom say no to such ' clowning matters. ' And let the players ' actions ' on the field do the talking and what not.
However, I say WAKE THE fu!K UP. This ain't your 40's or 50' or even 60's no more.

what does shannon mean by "protect yourself, we understand what you gotta get done tonight?" (6:50 mark)

Someone dry humping my leg again, and then smashing watermelons on stage
You're completely correct, every college football team has the book on Whipple and how to stop him via Stoops from FSU
Might as well just expect to be beaten by all the other teams on the schedule from here on out like they were beaten by FSU, b/c their defense will know exactly what the Canes are going to run every play
Unreal.
Sebastian, was at the Countryside/East Lake game last night. Was wearing my "The U Invented Swagger Shirt" and over on the East Lake sideline. A couple of their staff asked me where I got it and said that their OLine coach played at Miami last year. I looked over near the head coach where all the kids were around him - and I saw AJ Trump. I talked to him after halftime, he came up to me and said "great shirt" and we talked about the team this year for a little bit before he had to go

say that mac!!!
i'm with you. how about we let these boys do their thang-- and we get so good, our talent and force becomes so unstoppable that the penalties we get are outweight by the thrashing that we are given our opponents???? what if expressing ourself unleashes the talent that we know is on this team so that the penalties (and negative press-- which by the way is good press) are nullified and diminished in their affect because we are winning games and championships-- i say unleash the fury!!!! bring the pain!!!

I wasnt able to make any of the HS games last night because my wife had to attend meetings instead of the usual conference calls at home or over the computer
Good stuff getting to hear that you had a chance to catch up with AJ for a few
I see you are catching some heat for defending Whipple
I would say I watch each `Canes game 3 times during the course of a week and its an entire different situation when being able to do that
Its not play calling as it is either missing checkdowns,2 WRs running the same route, a RB misreading a blitz and staying in to block instead of swinging out for a pass or just sometimes doing what IMO is the best thing to do. Play it safe, give the play a chance by getting into a playmakers hands and if it doesnt work then punt it and let the nasty D do their thing

AND... isn't up to The Whipple Factor and his Hurricane O-unit assistants job, to make sure those ' tangibles ' yous mentioned above are ' corrected ' during practice.
jUst wondering. That's all.
Posted by: macjones | October 30, 2010 at 11:52 AM
And dude, if you're going to copy/paste what you wrote on the last blog late, onto this blog, then at least copy/paste my response ... I would, but I really don't care enough to
and your incessant bitch/moan fest about the OCoordinator has risen up to your bitch/moan fest about the Huskers
It's gotten to the point to when I start reading the bibbity-bop-diggity-doh in the beginning of a post, I know that in the range of 98.9% that it's going to involve something about Nebraska
It is a pretty simple thing though, isn't it ... execution. So imagine how you're feeling if you're a coach (not some blogger) and your team isn't doing it and it's holding you back. Like I said, if Randy Shannon himself is saying it - then, well, nevermind and keep living in your fantasy land of not accepting that

Mac: when I saw the celebration penalty I was cheering as loud as I have all year. As always, it's Miami and people will always hate these Canes. Put up your middle fingers and play lights out. All problems will be solved. I hate all the penalties this year, it's been driving me nuts... Except one, that one warmed my heart!!!
Go Canes!

Sebastian - ya, it was pretty cool talking with AJ. Would've been cool if you could've gone, but, I completely understand. I shot 86 a text about AJ last night. I'll probably be heading up to the Sunlake game next week - pretty big game to help determine post-season play
What a few don't realize I guess, is that you can only do so much as a coach until the kid(s) finally decide to do it themselves
You can only tell a kid so many times to stop staring down WRs/TEs and to look off the Safeties - but it's up to him to do it
You can only drill a kid so many times to catch a ball, with JUGS machines or any other method - but it's up to him to actually wrap his mitts around the ball and do it
I also guess that some, if not all, Canes players have an unlimited potential of performance - and it's never been about the possibility of a coach maybe getting the kid to his ceiling and trying to get him past it, but it just won't happen b/c of the kid
For some, it may take just them being sat out a few plays if they screw up to get their head back in it ... for others, they don't even have to worry about that
Headed to Buffalo Wild Wings next to Brighthouse Field .. late

Six...no excuses. The coaches are responsible for the players they recruit and for their performance on the field.
Results are the ONLY thing that matters.
If U wanna just blame it ALL on the players for (A) not having enough talent or (B) of not executing, then have at it.

Im no equipment manager but im going to play one right now
Can we please change these cleats out
The ones we have on sure arent working
Posted by: Sebastian | October 30, 2010 at 12:32 PM
It's not looking good, so far, for Team Shannon.
Yous know Cane matters aren't going smoothly when Jacory falls down, and not a Cavalier puts a pinkie on him. LMAO
Seriously though, Virginia has taken away Miami's rushing attack.
Posted by: macjones | October 30, 2010 at 12:33 PM
I dont think we are going to very good today because we are playing on bad grass... lmao
Posted by: mi@mic@ne | October 30, 2010 at 12:34 PM
Yeah. cleats are an issue. It seems that way every year in Virginia.
We are good for at least 1 big run a game. They just got it. Now the D will sac up.
But miami does seem unusually slow today.
Posted by: BEERicane | October 30, 2010 at 12:34 PM
Canes not prepared to play today (again).
Offense slow, sloppy and fugly.
Jacory is looking awful.
Bosher unable to pin UVA deep twice now.
Defense playing uninspired (again).
Same old, same old. As UMike said before the game UM playing down to their competition as usual.
