This message is brought to you via email by the UM Athletic Department (with photos and commentary by Canespace). Note to Kirby: U should have asked us first before you initiated this knee-jerk repsonse to what happened at the FSU game. I'm jus sayin...
Dear Hurricane Fan,
In an effort to provide an optimal game day experience for all patrons at University of Miami home football games, the UM athletics department and Sun Life Stadium have planned several enhancements to the game day operations including an increased security presence, opening parking lots 5 hours prior to kick-off for North Carolina and directional parking.
"The game day staff at Miami and Sun Life Stadium are committed to providing a first-class college football environment," said Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt (seen above R).
"We have, and will continue to work diligently in an effort to improve the traffic and parking flow at the stadium, increase the security presence, provide a higher level of customer service at the pass gate and further emphasize the shared policies for fan conduct.
"We want all of our fans to help by taking pride and abiding by the U Respect code of conduct: respect the game, respect the fans, respect the U."
Beginning with this Saturday's game against North Carolina (7:30 p.m. on ESPN2) the following changes will be instituted.
Increased Security Presence
UM and Sun Life Stadium have increased the ratio of security to fans to the highest level. UM and Sun Life Stadium have asked security and local law enforcement authorities to be more vigilant and make every effort to arrest or eject individuals that act outside the law.
What to Expect on Gameday: A more visible presence of security staff, law enforcement and university personnel monitoring game day atmosphere.
CANESPACE COMMENT: This increased security is for people like RaizeCane and his friends (seen above) who consistently test the limits of proper fan behavior and therefore require constant sight and sound supervision by heavily armed military personnel. If you do go to the game you will almost certainly be arrested and if you are lucky you might get shot. But hey, life is full of risks anyway, right?
Opening Time of Parking Lots
Parking lot gates will open at 2:30 pm for the North Carolina game.
What to Expect on Game Day: By opening the parking lots 5 hours prior to kick-off for this game our fans will experience less traffic and parking congestion.
CANESPACE COMMENT: We like this new rule. We always arrive early anyway so the earlier the better as far as we are concerned.
Directional Parking
All parking, both pre-purchased and those purchased on-site, will be directed by stadium personnel to individual parking spots at Sun Life Stadium.
What to Expect on Gameday: All cars will be directed to spots in the lot relevant to their parking privileges and fans can expect a more efficient and organized drive into the stadium and to your specific lot. Groups of fans that want to congegrate together for tailgating purposes will need to enter as a caravan of cars and/or plan to arrive at the stadium at the same time.
CANESPACE COMMENT: This rule is the worst of all of the new rules and the one we hate the most. Apparently it was implemented for fans like Canezilla and Canechic. Canezilla has a monster crew that tailgates together in East 22 but arrives in different cars at all different times. Canechic (seen above) always arrives late and then complains about the traffic and the parking hassle she goes through at West 32. Even when we went to the UCF game last year near Orlando where she lives she was over an hour late.
Either way tailgating with your friends as you know it has ended. That is sad, very, very sad.
Revocation of Ticket Privileges
Any ticket holder that is ejected or arrested during a UM football game will be subject to the revocation of their ticket privileges for the remainder of the 2010 season, subsequent UM football seasons and/or other ticketed events at Sun Life Stadium.
TEXT ALERTS: Report Unruly Behavior
Should you encounter any problems, please:
• Notify the nearest usher, police officer or guest services staff member
• Send a text to 41513, type the word FAN followed by a space and your explanation of the situation.
CANESPACE COMMENT: This rule was obviously implemented for fans like MoneyCane, AngryCane and CaneSteeler. Money (seen above) kills people, grinds them up and dumps them in the ocean for a living. Well not really, he just studys weather at GT. Angry has been known to clear out entire rows if not sections at Joe Robbie, ProPlayer, Dolphin, Landshark and Sun Life Stadium. One time when we went to The Swamp in 2003...well I will not say exactly what went down, but you had to be there. CaneSteeler has clearly stated that he is willing to throw down with people who make racist comments on the blog (we are totally with him here) or anyone who in his presence on game day criticizes The U, the coaches or the players (again we think he may be entitled).
Traffic Alerts
UM, Sun Life Stadium and security will utilize permanent highway/turnpike electronic signage, temporary roadside electronic signage and 560 WQAM to better communicate traffic and parking information throughout the `Canes four hour pregame show. As parking lots fill and congestion areas develop on the streets and highways leading into the stadium, WQAM will alert fans to alternate and/or more efficient ways to get into the stadium.
What to Expect on Gameday: Updates on a regular basis, as often as every 15 minutes, on the home of the Miami Hurricanes.... 560 WQAM
CANESPACE COMMENT: NEWS FLASH...Traffic sucks in Miami. Mean people suck too. Canezilla and LT#36 (seen above) on this agree. Some people drive agressively and others simply don't know how to drive. A small car fire on the Turnpike prior to the FSU game derailed thousands of fans plans to arrive early. We plan on either stealing a blimp or repelling from a helicopter Swat Team style, with our coolers, grills and all, for the next game.
Tailgate Policies
UM, Sun Life Stadium and law enforcement will monitor the tailgating area at the same level as inside the stadium.
What to Expect on Gameday: A greater presence from law enforcement and security personnel in an effort to provide a collegial and positive game day atmosphere.
CANESPACE COMMENT: Fun is bad, tailgating is fun and therefore, tailgating will no be longer allowed. If you do want some fun that's gonna cost U extra. A LOT extra!
So basically here are the new rules at Sun Life Stadium:
1. Arrive early, or you will be arrested.
2. Lose your friends; you never really liked those people anyway.
3. Don't tailgate or have fun. If you do, you will be arrested.
4. Find your seat, remain in your seat and please be quiet during the game.
If you don't stay in your actual seat, or if you sneeze, burp or God forbid pass gas during the game, you will be arrested, or shot, whichever comes first or might best prevent you from coming back to Sun Life Stadium.
Thank U for spending your hard earned money to attend the game.
And please...don't ever come back!

Oh and by the way I was at Sunlife last time 1/2 hour before gates opened but our tailgate friends were stuck on the turnpike behind the car on fire. Today will not be nearly as bad. North Carolina fan has manner and this game will not bring out the Miami fan who has no manners.

As if the tension wasn't high enough, here comes former UM coach Butch Davis and his overachieving Tar Heels to ratchet up the stakes in an ACC showdown that can calm the masses -- or put them over the edge.

Hurricanes players can pick any of these motivations they want, or several of them.
If they do, the significance of Saturday night's game against UNC won't slip out of their grasp.

Ledger
The way North Carolina coach Butch Davis was throwing around hyperbole this week, one would wonder if the Tar Heels had any chance to beat No. 25 Miami.
He raved about the Hurricanes' receivers, then their quarterback, running backs, defensive line, secondary, returners, speed, even their schedule. In short, Davis was delivering the same ominous message as he has just about every time he's had to face Miami.
By the way, since taking over in Chapel Hill, Davis is 3-0 against the Hurricanes.
"They've got our number now," Miami coach Randy Shannon said, "and we've got to find a way to change it."

Former UM quarterback Bernie Kosar said during a radio interview on Friday that he was aware of a players-only meeting this week. The Hurricanes, a 6 1/2-point favorite Saturday, have lost three straight games to North Carolina and Davis.
Happy Gameday!!! Go Canes!!!

That unruly fan texting thing cracks me up. It wouldn't even work because of the drain that is placed on those cell towers around the stadium with all of those phones in one place. the text will not get there until very late. Im going to text every UNC fan out of my section.

beeri
There was a special a couple seasons back where Auburn started the early texting fans out experiment because of their own home game fans boozing.
They were one of the first schools to use it.
They have it down to a science there.
Now when you act like an azz and run your mouth, an entire row of them simply pull out there cell phones, hold them up in the air, point at you and before you can say sis boom bah you're in the parking lot tailgating.

How are we the favorites in this game?
(rhetorical question)
Posted by: DZ8 | October 23, 2010 at 11:34 AM
I am surprised by how large of a favorite we are in this matchup. I only see one of two scenarios playing out. Miami wins by 10 or more or we lose. IMO, we won't win and not cover the spread in this one.
I think the entire program feels the pressure and enormity of this game tonight. They will show up, execute, and put together a solid game plan. The O will finally click and ST will lay the wood yet again to Carolina (what is it about the ST and the highlight hits they seem to lay on NC and where is the the rest of the season). We will get to Yates a few times and force a few ill advised throws. I see this being a "signature" win for RS and this canes team and they turn the corner for the rest of the year.
TONIGHT THEY PLAY LIKE THEY DESERVE TO WEAR THE U!

The cell reception down on the field in Sun Life sucks
I tried to send a text during the game to someone at the game, couldn't get a signal unless I walked around with my cell held up above my head like I was at a damn hair band concert and they were singing "Every Rose Has It's Thorn" and I didn't have a lighter to hold up like the rest of the people to sway back and forth

Dookies made 3 nice stops at the VTech 3 yard line - but VTech went for it on 4th/Goal and pushed it in
What a difference it makes to have WRs/TE that can catch consistently .. a QB that is fearless & has a necessary arrogance that is backed up by his play
Whatever miniscule home field advantage the Canes will have in the game against the Turkeys, they'll need it and every other voodoo, ju-ju, superstitious help they can get

Six, i am watching this game as well and have noticed that VT secondary seems average and looks even better against Duke's receivers who cant get any separation.
Their d-line isnt getting any pressure on Duke's QB unless they blitz. Dude has time to throw.

It would, also, help that the ' Whipple Factor ' has it's bloody act together by then! Yes!?
By the way, perusing a different Hurricane blog prior to tonight's A.C.C. showdown, and here's what this loyal Miami blogger had to say bout' that Whipple Factor.
Matter of fact, he made a couple of points that I was castigated for by the one above. Go bloody figures. LOL
http://blog.allcanes.com/
" The deep ball is still off, ' but even more off, the playcalling of Mark Whipple. ' BLOODY EMPHASIS Seeing Miami in a five wide receiver set on third and short and throwing deep twice on fourth and short last week, both were as illogical as the early third and long draws called the week prior. " YOUS THINK CANE ROWDY. lol
" A year ago Miami converted 81% of its trips to the red zone, finding a way to put points on the board. This year's red zone scoring ranks 102nd out of 120 Football Bowl Subdivision teams and the Canes rank 77th annually regarding third down conversions, as opposed to 16th last season. "
" Opposing defensive coordinators seemed to have solved the mystery that was UM's offense for the first two games last year - Florida State and Georgia Tech. " BLOODY VOILA! THAT'S BEEN MY RANT. Beyond becoming predictable, sometimes the Canes simply defy logic. At Duke, Harris' arm was called on 34 times - 20 of those passes longer than ten yards. When going short, Harris was 11-of-14 for 84 yards and a touchdown. "
" Again, stick to higher percentage, shorter passing plays and rely on the receivers' speed and legs to make plays, not Jacory's arm. "
" >>> Coach Whip, for better or worse, Harris is your guy. This isn't the NFL and you can't cut anybody, turning the gig over to a league vet you signed Monday morning. The mark of a good coach is finding a way to make your players successful. If you want to be cute with the Madden-style, fourth down deep ball against Duke, so be it. Against a stout North Carolina defense, you move the chains and pick up first downs with higher percentage plays. " http://blog.allcanes.com/

The Cane defense saves the day, again. No.
Posted by: macjones | October 23, 2010 at 01:29 PM
Whip has done a good job with the offense. The problem is the decisions made on the field with the receivers and JH. This o is read and react passing. So theres a 50 percent chance the receiver or Jh makes the wrong read. But i do not think these d coachs have figured Whip out... rather the receivers are too focused on their reads and not on catching the ball. If we caught all of the long passes and the rest of the balls in third down situations we might be in the top 5 rite now.
The o passing game is complicated so it is not easy to figure out. Hopefully we replace the tight end keep control of the ball in tight situations and in red zone scoring.
JH needs to tuck the ball and run in the red zone.

' Opposing D-coordinators ' haven't relatively gotten the ' Book ' on the Whipple Factor. How do yous figure.
Err, check that. Just aske Seminole defensive coordinator Stoops. Perhaps his voice of authority will get yous to question your bloody believes.
Because baby, the vast majority- Think 85% - of college football fandom ' believe what they want to believe. ' U' dig!
And, major college football stats don't lie. Yeah, yeah it's all a bloody matter of intepretation.
Chit, even Tar Heel QB Yates gave U'all Hurricane fandom a clue to Carolina's success against Miami, recently.
He said the ENTIRE Tar Hell coaching staff, from Davis on down to his special teams coach, have just PREPARED better than the Canes. And that includes IN-GAME ADJUSTMENTS.

Hopefully we stay healthy on the d.
Posted by: mi@mic@ne | October 23, 2010 at 01:54 PM
mac - it was Duke, why not try some plays like that .. as well, what other routes were the WRs taking on those plays underneath that we didn't see but Jacory chose to throw to someone else
Then again, throwing short routes or long routes or medium routes is going to impede your play calling thinking a little when you have diminishing faith that your WRs whom you're throwing to have dropped the ball 34 or 35 times in 6 games
How many drives in the past 6 games have been stalled or killed b/c of one of those 34 or 35 drops?
How many drops did the Canes WRs have last year in the first 6 games and how much did that effect the % of whatever efficiency, wherever on the field? Can you remember just how many times Travis Benjamin dropped the ball last year, compared to this year at the same point
On top of that, you have a QB that is basically mind f***ed if something goes wrong ... when you have a fellow teammate of his since high school coming out (Brandon Washington) and saying how different Jacory is, then a light goes on to where your QBs mind is or isn't
Whether people want to admit this or not either, how much do the Canes miss Dedrick Epps and even Jimmy Graham? Hopefully Cleveland can fill that role b/c Ford has basically been disappointing in filling that role
All the sudden people are harping on Whip and his play calling - which I admit can be frustrating at times but have to step back and look at what the possibilities were on that play - but yet a year ago people were crying about him possibly leaving and almost went to Defcon-1 tragedy level when rumors of him interviewing for a head coaching gig somewhere else surfaced?
Get Whipple the hell out of here then. Seriously. Ship his ass out and bring someone else in b/c he sure the hell doesn't know what he's doing. Jacory hasn't reached his peak at all and wasn't pushed beyond his capabilities last year when people were touting him for possible Heisman candidate - bring someone else in that can take him further along now than he is in reading defenses and not locking in on targets. Whipple can't do that and hasn't tried to either - get rid of him.
Posted by: Six | October 23, 2010 at 01:56 PM
Notre Dame still bloody SUXs! They be down to the Midshipmen at half... Navy 21, Celts 10. LOL
Texas played their emotional hearts and soul out last week against that OVER-HYPED Herbie Cornhusker team.
Perhaps thats why The Mack's Longhorn squad is losing at halftime to ' mighty ' Iowa St... Cyclones 14, Tejas 3.
And the Hokies already have the same total of points, that Miami scored last week, at halftime.
And believe it or not. Beamer Ball will RUN-UP the score in the second-half. 40+ points anyone.

Posted by: macjones | October 23, 2010 at 01:51 PM
You cant figure this o out because the adjustments are made on the field by the playa according to what the d is running...
The only negative about read and react is it can make it easy to make mistakes because it demands more mental time...theres a chance you could lose a step on the speed side. Shula used to run this kind of stuff when Marino was qb. Shula was a master with the passing game.
Posted by: mi@mic@ne | October 23, 2010 at 01:59 PM
"The o passing game is complicated so it is not easy to figure out."
So would it be logical to make sure you have players that can execute it, or change the offense to something the players you have can handle?
I think running a precision timing based offense with players that have to think about where they should be and concentrate on catching the ball is beyond these kids.
Our wide receivers are basically fast athletes, and not particularly aggressive or sure handed.
I think the teams you see with athletic receivers running basic offenses look a lot more comfortable out there.
Hank yea, and Byrd most of the time.
Everybody else looks out of sync, and when the ball does get there they look tight.
TB would probably have three our four more TDs if he ran a go route, out ran the secondary and Jacory just lead him deep.
Like Harris did with his basic passing game to Streeter and AJ in high school.
I would agree when the offense gets it together and Whipple is out for blood we look great.
I'm glad Berry and the defense are here or we would be SOOL.

SIX'er failed to mention that The Chosen One was ' injured ' for approximately 75% of the season in ' 09.
And lo and behold, Jacory is battling injuries, again.
When Harris is physically at 110%, last season's games against both F.S.U. and GA Tech show what The Chosen One is capable of. Yes!?
Posted by: macjones | October 23, 2010 at 02:03 PM
We played the 10 passing plays O style with Coker and Butch... we only had one receiver that was getting open... Johnson... i remember that ... the d completely shut our passing game down accept for Johnson... thats why we had close games where we needed a break to win, when we ran the table in 02.
Look the stats would be off the table if we simply caught the ball.... whats so difficult about asking a receiver to catch the damn football? When a receiver drops the ball its because they there is not enough catches in practice time. These guys need to throw and catch thousands of balls in the off season and they need to focus on it more if there are drops.

Thats probably why Collier was so good.. he wasnt going to class ... he was more focused. hehe
Posted by: mi@mic@ne | October 23, 2010 at 02:11 PM
I remember someone telling me... they went to a um practice when Erickson was coach... he said they had all these stations... for different playas... that focused on ball handling skills. .and they would go from one station to another like clock work. Erickson was the best o coach we had.. he just could not recruit.

Mi@mi,
What's the penalty to the receivers for dropping passes?
They don't get benched, the receiver coach doesn't get his salary cut.
Nobody seems to care except us fans.
The drops make Jacory look bad, the worse Jacory looks the more he forces things, and tries to overcome his receivers mistakes.
Then it seems to snowball.
On player development.
Whipple could be a very good OC. yes.
Whipple hasn't shown me anything as far as being a legendary QB coach.
His prized pupil had Heisman potential.
Is Jacory developing in leadership, mental toughness, quarterback mechanics?
Has Whipple prepared anybody to take a snap besides Jacory?
Aubrey Hill should work out with Duper for a season then get a job at a junior college.
