Coming off of a difficult loss against FSU at home last week your Miami Hurricanes (4-2, 2-1 ACC) decided they had seen enough garnet (and gold) so they decided to seek out a team wearing a nice pretty blue (and white).
The 'Canes found their victims wearing the uniforms of the lovely little Blue Devils and then proceeded to take out their frustrations on Duke in Durham, NC on Saturday by the score of 28-13.
It may not have been the crimson colored blood bath that some Hurricane fans wanted or expected but when it was over it was enough for most Miami fans: a solid if not predictable ACC win over lowly Duke (1-5, 0-3).
Wrap it up, I'll take it.
The Hurricanes were efficient if not impressive against Duke, a university known more for their basketball skills than their football prowess. Duke may dominate the hardwood but on the green grass they have been (and it appears that they will continue to be) a bottom dweller year after year in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
The Miami offense continued to show inconsistency and struggled in spite of being given numerous opportunities via turnovers delivered by a tough and at times dominating Hurricane defense. The Hurricanes defense offered up seven, count them, seven turnovers to the starved Miami offense.
And what did they produce? A measly 21 points. So the UM defense decided to score on their own when big, fat DT Micanor Regis took one in for a pick 6. We like it when the big uglies score. In fact, we like that a lot!
Two positives from the game were that the Hurricanes may have found a much needed MLB and a developing star at TE. UM LB Kelvin Cain made his first satrt in the middle for a mysteriously missing Colin McCarthy and TE Asante Cleveland may have proved himself good enough to take over the TE spot for the 2010 season and beyond. Both Cain and Cleveland are Freshmen.
Next up for the Hurricanes is North Carolina and former UM coach Butch Davis. Many have wondered why Miami has lost four straight to the Tar Heels. We have heard from the professional excuse makers that since 2007 Miami has either been too soft, too young, too injured or too something or other to beat UNC.
Some have even questioned if Randy Shannon has what it takes to beat his former boss and mentor. Officially and for the record I say he does and that in 2010 no excuses will be necessary as Miami will beat UNC.
So join us at Sun Life Stadium at 7:30 PM this coming Saturday to see your Miami Hurricanes beat the Tar Heels and see for yourself as Swagger makes a jubilant return to the 305. In case you missed it or have not been paying attention I am personally guaranteeing a victory over UNC this coming Saturday.
And, like I have said many times before:
I GOT THIS!
Could it be?

Skool...it simply means that Miami wins. I'll give a score prediction later this week before the game.
Last week if u recall I had called UM 34, Duke 13, and if Randy would have let Mike James run the ball of few more times at the end of the game, it would have been spot on.

Wow this week will be nothing but bitch!n, not sure I can stomach it.....I would not want to play for any team with Miami fans, Heat did not win a pre-season game and the sky is falling.....Dolphins, Henne is horrible, Sparano stinks, Ricky despite running his @ss off is always seen negatively..... Marlins.. ok now that is on the owner...Canes...Jacory terrible, black, Shannon horrible, Whipple horrible. Panthers are winning but it is only a matter of time. I am not sure about the soccer team, have not heard anything negative about them or maybe Miami does not have a team. Ugh all this whining is just getting annoying.
Let's see Butch was a horrible game day coach, Coker had to go, Now it is Shannon....whose got next....and would you want to coach here?

I was thinking about Boise States players state of mind compared to Miami's.
Forget about each teams schedule and focus on the players for a second.
Boise players take themselves very serious.
They have as much pride in their team's success as we had in the 80 and 90s.
They have the attitude they can beat anyone anytime.
Boise executes it's offense with precision.
They line up in their formations, make their shifts and adjustments like a machine.
They run plays that allow them the best chance of success, and the best use of the clock.
They have a quarterback that protects the ball and moves the offense. He is a steady confident leader.
They have proved their doubters wrong time after time by beating very good out of conference teams.
It's our nature to point at things we used to do well and blame everything from the guy that makes our schedule, to the weather for or current state.
Maybe it's time the players and coaches and fans here look at the team everyone loves to hate because those players invest what it takes, and takes it's football program so serious.

ANOTHER THING ABOUT LEADERSHIP ON THIS TEAM.ITS GOING TO BE HARD JUST TO GET AND BE A LEADER NOW.ITS LIKE YOUR GIRLFRIEND SAYING U NEVER SAY U LOVE ME THEN EVERYDAY U START SAYING IT.YOUR JUST SAYING IT BECAUSE IT BECAME A ISSUE.SAME WITH THIS SITUATION PLAYERS WONT TAKE IT SERIOUS BECAUSE NOW U WANNA START BEING A LEADER? WHAT DO I KNOW...

They have proved their doubters wrong time after time by beating very good out of conference teams.
Ok outside of VT who have the beat? And do not say the Beavers cuz they got beat by U of Washington.
I love to route for the underdog and I think Boise has a good team but could they do it if they played in a decent conference? Not sure if you have to get up every week to play a good team (even just good) they have played 2 tough games that is it....

They line up against cupcakes throughout the year and much easier to show those things when you play poop for teams

U don't make a guarantee with an "OR" or then U are really confident in guaranteeing it in the first place are U?

Any chance of moving Coln back to OLB with Spence and then you leave Cain in the Middle?
Posted by: pbcfrcane13 | October 17, 2010 at 12:26 PM
Well, there is a $4 million coach up north that has lost 3 straight. And was recently embarrassed on their Homecoming by a 5-2 MSU squad. It's funny how they are screaming for his name when he just went 14-1 last year. They are even asking for John Gruden to come coach.
Loyal fan bases...don't exist!

Miami had four interceptions against Duke.
That makes 12 INTs through 6 games this season. Last year the Hurricanes had 9 INTs in 13 games.
Vaughn Telemaque picked off two passes and DVD, Micanor Regis and Ryan Hill all had one INT against Duke.
The last time Miami had four interceptions in a game was 1n 2007 against Marshall.

Freshman linebacker Kelvin Cain made his first career start at middle linebacker today. Cain, who also forced his first career fumble in the first half, finished the contest with 9 tackles.
Defensive Back Ryan Hill (10) and defensive tackle Micanor Regis (9) recorded their season-highs in tackles in the win.

Isnt Kelvin Cain one of those none 5 star or 4 star prospects Canes fans didnt want in this recruiting class
Posted by: gcane | October 17, 2010 at 12:45 PM
From Steve Gorten at the Sun Sentinel:
* The Hurricanes committed 12 penalties, nine in the second half. In the fourth quarter alone, they were offside on defense four times and penalized for a personal foul. “We had some bone-headed penalties,” Spence said. “We’ve got to play aggressive, but smart as well.”
* Miami’s 448 yards of total offense were a season-high and the ‘Canes’ most since 496 yards against Duke last season. Yet they managed just 21 points on offense against the Blue Devils, who came in ranked 115th in the nation in scoring defense at 39.8 points per game.

Cain was rated the 10th best outside linebacker in the state of California ... As a senior, recorded 80 tackles and nine sacks while also returning eight kickoffs for 150 yards ... Played at Portland (OR) Grant High School, where he finished with 61 tackles and seven sacks as a junior.

Kelvin Cain out to shed “sleeper” label
by: Shandel Richardson January 21st, 2010
Kelvin Cain has heard all the talk. When he committed to Hurricanes in early January,it was met with little hoopla from fans. Cain wasn't exactly highly ranked coming out of Clovis (Calif.) Buchanon High. He was immediately referred to as a "sleeper" recruit.
"I mean, I really don't care what people say," said Cain, a linebacker. "They think I'm a sleeper. All I want to do is just work and get better. I really don't pay attention to that Internet stuff. I really don't look at it. It's pointless to me."
The 6-foot-4, 210-pound Cain, who will begin his official UM visit Thursday, was being recruited by the likes of Nevada, Arizona and Fresno State. He jumped at the chance to play for the Hurricanes, basically shutting down the recruiting process after accepting the offer.
"I know what I can do on the field," Cain said. "I'm a big guy with quick feet and I can play outside and middle linebacker. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. I'm going to do what I've got to do."

DURHAM, N.C. -- If the University of Miami's loss last week to Florida State was agony, the 28-13 victory over Duke on Saturday was torture.
The humbling by the Seminoles made Hurricanes fans want to hurl crockery. The display of mediocrity against Duke made them run for the medicine cabinet.
``A win is a win,'' UM defensive lineman Allen Bailey said, echoing his teammates and coaches in a perfect summation of the joyless, messy, successful performance.
But when you go to a five-star restaurant, you don't want to leave with the assessment that ``a meal is a meal.''
UM, a five-star program ranked No. 12 a month ago, should have beaten lowly Duke by more than 15 points, especially when the Blue Devils surrendered seven turnovers. Poor Duke quarterback Sean Renfree was the gift that kept on giving. The kid had a rough day, throwing five interceptions and losing a fumble. How close would the game have been without those turnovers? Duke has given up an average of 40 points per game.
Football isn't figure skating. Nobody is awarding points for artistry.
Scoreboard, baby -- that's all that counts.

#9 Arizona (5-1) got beat by Oregon State (3-3)
#24 Oregon State (3-3) got beat by Washington (3-3)
#18 USC (5-2) got beat by Washington (3-3)
It's all crazy out there in the Pac
I don't think people will have to worry too much about Boise being in the NChamp game - the way the BCS rankings are come toward the end of the year, it will probably be a very very slim chance if any. Boise would have to beat all of their opponents by a pretty large margin, running up the score, to make a dent in it
Boise can't help what conference they're in. They can't help that they've improved dramatically over the other teams in that conference, while the majority of other teams in the conference haven't. I do agree that they do need to go onto the road and play some other people. Boise could be their own worst enemy b/c of that - on the flip side of that, who says they haven't tried to, and I'm talking about knowing legitimately about who they've tried to get games with ... not reminiscing about who people thought they heard Boise tried with
Boise has won both of their BCS Bowl Games
Here are some other schools and how they've fared in the BCS Bowls recently:
Ohio State - lost 4 of their last 5
Oklahoma - lost 5 of their last 5
FSU - lost 4 of their last 5
Michigan - lost 3 of their last 4
VTech - lost 3 of their last 4
Notre Dame - lost all 3
Cincinnati - lost both 2
Iowa - lost 1 of 2
Nebraska - lost 1 of 2
Oregon - lost 1 of 2
Penn State - lost 1 of 2
Rocky Top - lost 1 of 2
Teams that lost their only appearance in a BCS Bowl: Pitt, Purdue, Stanford, Syracuse, TCU, Texas A&M, UCLA, Wake Forest, Washington State
I think that if Boise were to join a BCS conference, that they would evolve with that conference. I mean seriously, just how tough is it in the Big East? Come on. Do people really think that Coach Petersen and his staff wouldn't evolve to compete within a BCS conference? That more and more kids, higher rated kids if that's your thing - wouldn't want to play for Boise, if they were in a BCS conference, knowing that they would have a chance to legitimately play for a BCS title without the college football nation poo pooing upon them as an at-large bid?
Why in the hell would the Pac-10 want Colorado to join their conference instead of doing whatever it could to get Boise State instead to make it a stronger conference? Colorado? The hell exactly do they bring to your conference?
It'll be interesting to see what Utah does in the Pac-10, b/c they're another school along the lines of Boise State. Kyle Whittingham might be a model of how he can take his team from a smaller conference, into a BCS conference - for Boise State and Chris Petersen
