The Game: This week your Miami Hurricanes face ACC rival North Carolina at Sun Life Stadium at 7:30 PM. We encourage all Hurricane fans to come on out to the game and support the team.
UM head coach Randy Shannon faces his former boss and mentor as well as current nemisis in Tar Heel head coach Butch Davis. Davis has taken Shannon to the woodshed for four straight years, but we predict that trend will end in 2010.
As I have stated previously several times publicly here on the blog: Miami will beat UNC this year. I am guaranteeing it. I GOT THIS!
So come out to the stadium, eat some delicious tailgate food, have a beverage or six, enjoy the game and go home happy after the Hurricanes beat the Tar Heels. Can U think of a better way to spend a Saturday evening?
Hotel Accomodations: As you know by now the Canespace official hotel is the award winning Hampton Inn in Plantation. Here is more information on the ONLY place to stay for Hurricane games:
If you are traveling to South Florida for a University of Miami football game this year then we highly recommend that you stay at the designated Canespace hotel for these events: The Hampton Inn - Plantation.
This award-winning, luxury hotel is situated in an ideal location just West of University Drive and just a few blocks north of I-595. The Hampton Inn is located near numerous restaurants and several sports bars, is in walking distance to the Broward Mall and only 20 minutes from Sun Life Stadium.
Hurricane fans from near and far literally take over the hotel lobby and patio before and after UM home games. There are always opportunities for car pooling to the game, purchasing tickets and snatching up one of the prized Canespace T-shirts.
Canespace usually throws a "Party On The Patio" after every home game with free food, beverages and prizes for UM trivia contests. With a lush, tropical setting and a large pool and jacuzzi, the Hampton Inn patio is THE place to celebrate each Hurricane victory in 2010!
The special Canespace Rate is $89 and includes a FULL hot breakfast.
For reservations please contact the hotel front desk or speak to:
Susan Stern, Director of Sales, Hampton Inn Plantation: 954-382-4500
Or reserve your room on line with Canespace Corporate Code 0002702804 at:
www.ftlauderdaleplantation.hamptoninn.com
Tailgating Information: The Canespace tailgate can be found in the East 12 area of the Sun Life Stadium parking lot. Enter the stadium off of Florida's Turnpike, turn right and park as close to the stadium as possible. We suggest you get there early (4 PM) as the game is basically sold out and the crowd will be eager to arrive and get their mojo working and their buzz on.
Look for the Canespace banner in the East 12 parking area when U arrive. Some food and beverages will be available for all that show-up but we ask that you bring some additional snackage and your favorite beverages and do what you can to help support the party.
GO CANES, BEAT UNC!
Score Prediction: UM 27, UNC 20.
Go Canes

Kirk Herbstreit is following the once bitten twice shy rule.
On Joe Rose this morning, he is picking UNC big. He says that nothing has changed from two weeks ago from the team that got trounced by FSU. And that UNC has that former Canes "Us against the world" attitude and are on a roll.
So, can we prove Herbstriet wrong TWICE in three weeks?

Ohio - where U flying in from? Check the rates flying into Miami, Lauderdale & West Palm (figuring your renting a car?). Even if U weren't goin to rent a car, U may save by flying into West Palm & driving.
Check flying out of a different airport also.
Posted by: DallasTXCane | October 19, 2010 at 11:27 PM
-------------------------------------------
Ohio-If your renting a car the prices wont be so much different at airports, so expand your search to West Palm, Orlando, Tampa, and even Jacksonville. If you can fly down Friday, the drive won't kill you..

Carried this over from the previous blog. Hope that's ok.
I'd be flying in from Pittsburgh, PA. Closest airport to here. I had only checked flying into Miami International. I will check the others.
I don't know anything about the area as I've never been to FL, so I had no idea how close other airports are. I probably would be renting a car, yes.
Thanks to both responses!

DTX,darC,
check this out.
I'll paraphrase it, but you get the idea.
I had a big GT fan that scans the Internet mostly about racing, but never blogs anywhere about anything skim through the entire last blog article's comments.
He summed it up perfectly to me.
What you guys have there is The Toyota Recall Forum under the title Canespace.
You guys have a brand you love and are loyal too.
You hate that the current model isn't the Consumer Best Buy that it was for a decade.
You whine about what each other is saying because you're stuck with 36 more payments to make on your current car, and the newer model costs more than yours is worth trading in for.
Posted by: solarcane | October 20, 2010 at 09:30 AM
4 real there exists another team in Miami with no school affiliation, no administration, no grade qualifications, no fund raising for the medical, law or business school, it's called the professional team Miami Dolphins.
College teams do not exist without the school, they go hand and hand. If RS proves to be a bad coach then he will be gone.....you all cried like babies about Coker and Shalala let him go. I am a huge competitor in everything I do and I want the Canes to win more than anything.
Canesteeler it is on these players, they have got to have a hunger to win because at the end of the day it is their name on that jersey! I was a Real Estate Closer for 10 years and I never, ever, never, ever signed my name to anything I was not proud of even if my boss said I had to. Because at the end of the day no matter where I work or who I work for my name is on that document and my name and reputation is all I have.
I believe this has become a belabored point. Take into account that as much as you guys love canes football and I don't deny that you do, the university is first and the football program 2nd. Just the facts!!!!!

solar, great analogy from your GT friend.
And the reason we are upset is because we figure that basic items are suddenly broken and we end up having to DEFEND those things from Honda owners that are holding up their latest trophy. For years, we were able to RELY on our car, but even though most of the time the car works fine, we get to see the few failed incidents on NATIONAL TV (GT 08, VT 09, FSU 10) and the 911 call is getting replayed over and over again on ESPN.

I have tried a couple times to get him to come on here the week of GT. He thinks blogging is pretty lame, but doesn't put anybody down that enjoys it.

Wish I could join all of you. This older Cane loves all the Canes just like all of you.
IS this a night game?
We CANNOT lose at home again against Butch Davis. I wish he were still here.
He's got that 100% inner drive and shows it to all of his players. He pumps them up big, just like he did when he was here.

I want my Saturn to have 6 cylinders, but they only sell a 4.
I want my Saturn to be as popular as it was when it first came out, but the company no longer exists...
I want my Saturn to be as different and bad azz as I once thought --- but in reality, it's just a chevy with a different name.
I want everyone to love my Saturn...but in the end...they never will.
Yhen I realize:
My Saturn takes me to work everyday
MY Saturn doesnt break down more than any other car...
I used to have great times in my Saturn...
My Saturn is MINE...and I love my Saturn.

34 drops in 6 games. I cant put even 50% of the blame on our coaches when we have a stat like this. This doesn't explain the egg we put up for FSU, but to me its a telling stat. Probably the most interesting of the season so far. Make you wonder what the issue is.

Manny posts Anderson gone from football. Shannon's reply "he's in track, it pays the bills" another 5 star flop. It seems to be a curse here, either that or we can't coach talent.
I'm going out on a limb and predict we plow Carolina, with one of our rare good games 27-13 and that will leave us with our other two headache teams, G.Tech & Va. tech, which one of those will we revert back to our old ways with (FSU-OSU?

Better late than never. On a topic yesterday about Miami being a university and all that. That we should appreciate it as a university of higher learning, yada-yada...
But wasn't it Miami football that crushed administrations with enrollments back in the 80's? Once they started winning, the line to get into this school was stretched all the way to Fort Lauderdale.
I wonder what the enrollment rates have been like since 2000 to now. Do they even see a decline when our sports programs aren't doing so hot? I'm just sayin'.

Man, you get such better deals on flights if you book the hotel with it as a package. Like $150 off. Problem is, I'd like to stay where all the 'Space ppl are staying.
Flying out of Columbus, OH is about $180 cheaper too. Which is only 1 hour difference in driving time.
So we're both looking at about $834 total for flight, room, and game tickets. Not bad.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | October 20, 2010 at 01:58 PM
This is where we'd be staying with the deal I found.

Mentality. Off-season workouts. Leadership. Talent behind them. You know, the things that have nothing to do with coaching.
I think with Shannon getting all these kids that win state titles isn't working. They probably come in with the mentality that it's just going to fall in their lap. We desperately need a gladiator on this team. We need an Ed Reed, Michael Irvin, Ray Lewis, Sean Taylor type mentalities. I'm not sure about the other guys, but I know Ray Lewis didn't win a state title at Kathleen.

360 I said the same thing,
Once these guys proved they can get on the field at the U their commitment to excellence diminishes it seems.
What I do know is, getting the Canes back into the top 5-8 teams in the country is far more complex than hiring a new head coach, and eliminating trouble makers which is what I and a lot of others believed was all it was gonna take three years ago

Glad you found a better deal on the flight Ohio! That looks like a nice hotel also. If U want my opinion...
If U want more "romance" with the special lady that weekend - taking her to the beach at sunset, nice dinners, etc - then, stay at the nicer hotel and limit the drunken canespace orgy...holding your lady's head while she prays to the porceline god doesn't make for the most romantic of nights...her holding YOUR head is just plain wrong.
However, if U (and she) are looking for the S.FL equivalent of the Roman Bacchanalia and just want to party...stay with the canespacers.
Either way, U r going to have a great time.

I hear U CGNC. It took us less time to recover in the 90s from a more desperate situation. I think that is part of what is so frustrating to so many posting here. We're going on 5-6 years of mediocre now.
Still, I hold out hope that we'll win out. A 10-2 record with an appearance (victory?) in the ACC title game will restore some measure of respect. Add in a win in a bowl game and we'll have reason to believe we can be "national players" in '11. Anything less and I expect the sun to rise in the west.

Ya, we're not really coming to be romantic. She's a recent convert from a WVU fan (Where she graduated from) to a Cane fan. She wants to drink and tailgate and go see the game, as do I.
With the extra time we'll have, we'll probably go down to the beach and check it out. Maybe have dinner there as well.
That said, I see this weekends game as their last real test until VT, so we've decided if they beat UNC this weekend, we're spending the $$ and will be there on Nov 20th!
My thought process on this is: Beat UNC and we're 3-1 in the ACC. Virginia, Maryland, and GT shouldn't beat us. So that puts us at the VT game being the game that puts us in the ACC championship! I WANNA BE THERE FOR THAT!
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | October 20, 2010 at 02:45 PM
Thats good thinking Ohio. U definitely must hang at the beach - get a tan, down many drinks and find some good seafood. Maybe some Lauderdale locals on here can point U in the right direction. I grew up in Lauderdale and have family all over Miami, but haven't claimed residence there in a long time.
