BREAKING NEWS REPORT FROM MIAMI...
We are getting word from the street that there was a college football game in the State of Florida yesterday between two teams in the Atlantic Coast Conference that for obvious "national security reasons" will go un-named.
We had two reporters on the scene (RaizeCane and OGV seen below) who recanted these first hand accounts of the activities they observed while under the steady and consistent observation of the always lurking gorilla media.
First there were the usual obligatory tailgate photos of the many highly invested, well fed and well lubricated Hurricane fans often referred to as "tailgaters". These hard core fans always reflect what is good and evil and necessary in every 'Canes fan. At least as we know them!
Our two reporters on site went deeper into the scene to uncover the real story behind this event. They then sent these images of those in attendance in addition to their written reports of the people, places and events of the day.
The "Band Of The Hour" rocked! They found their way into our tailgate and proceeded to blow the doors off of the surrounding area. Then these lovely young ladies showed up and this, as usual with RaizeCane, happened:
As U can see we were having a great time, relaxing to the tunes of the band, enjoying the company of fellow Canes fans and savoring every moment.
Then this guy and his friendly dog showed up and we knew we were all in trouble. So I distracted them by taking a photo while the other members of our entourage hurriedly scampered far way from the highly alerted dog.
Next up came the full moon warning that Miami was almost certainly going to lose. We don't know why or how but Miami has lost 37 of the 40 games played on a full moon night. Not really we just made that up to fit the story line and because it sounded good.
But anyway there was a football game played and here we demonstrate actual evidence of that by demonstrating a photo image of the opening kickoff!
Number one, an "insider" told us this was an offensive play:
Number two, an alleged "insider" told us this was defensive play:
So that is our story of the alleged "game" that took place in an undisclosed location in Florida on November 20, 2010. We hope that you like our recap of the events as we saw them happen.
Or at least as much as we are willing to tell you...

Coach Randy Shannon has vowed he "won't lose this team" and UM players insist they won't come out flat on Senior Day against South Florida after the emotional loss to Virginia Tech.
Their ACC slate finished, the 'Canes (7-4) must beat the Bulls (6-4) to have a chance at matching last season's 9-4 record. They won 31-10 last year in Tampa and 27-7 in 2005 in the teams' only other meeting.
USF had won three in a row under first-year coach Skip Holtz before Saturday's 17-10 home loss to Pittsburgh. The Bulls rank 103rd in the nation in total offense (311.6 yards per game), but 25th in total defense (325.2).

Injury update
QB Jacory Harris, who has missed three consecutive games due to a concussion, will start Saturday if there are no setbacks in practice, Shannon said.
TE Asante Cleveland had two catches for 3 yards against Va. Tech after missing the previous game with a concussion.
They said it
"We've improved in a lot of things from where we were. Do I think we're a better football team than we were last year? Yes, but our record doesn't show it." – Shannon on UM's 7-4 record after going from five wins to seven, and seven to nine the previous two seasons.
Posted by: SOUP | November 22, 2010 at 12:06 AM
That being said at what point does Shannon start taking the blame from the administration?
In his four years, UM is 4-9 against ranked opponents and has yet to win a bowl game or even get into the ACC Title game.
Virginia Tech, which came over with UM from the Big East, will be making its fifth trip to the conference title game in seven years. Even Boston College has made it to the ACC Title twice.
No, Shannon wasn't handed the keys to a Ferrari like Nick Saban was at Alabama. But when you consider that Mario Cristobal is on the verge of winning the Sun Belt Conference with FIU after being handed an 0-12 program, the current state at UM is a little embarrassing to say the least.

A comment from another blog that I found interesting:
I’m going to lay it all on the line, folks. I’m not shouting and I’m not coming at anyone.
This is a Canes Football board/blog. Canes talk, about current events and happenings.
This is a place to bitch and moan, let it hang out, air your dissatisfaction or satisfaction about what’s going on. Right?
That said, if someone doesn’t like what the majority are saying, I’m sorry.
This is the place for all this talk. I’m not going to make excuses for it, because I enjoy it, and I enjoy most of you.
Why is this so hard to understand? You can’t bitch to your wife, that’s why you come here. You can’t bitch to your co-workers, b/c I ‘m sure they’re all Nole or Croc fans and could care less. That’s why we collect here to have these discussions.
I have not said anything of a personal nature to anyone, and I will not. But don’t take a personal disagreement from me as threatening or otherwise. Nobody has been banned, nobody’s been edited, nobody has had comments disappear. And they won’t really unless you cross that taste line that has been extended to everyone here.
So any comparisons to TOS is completely ridiculous and not based on facts.
I’m allowed to have an opinion and express it. And I’m allowed to defend my positions, as all of you are.
I know we’re all a little testy right now, me included. Just take a chill pill, deep breaths, we’ll be okay.
Go Canes!

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Reggie Johnson posted his third straight double-double and grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds, but the Miami men's basketball team couldn't get past a spirited Rutgers squad and fell, 61-45, on Sunday afternoon.
Jonathan Mitchell scored 12 points and Dane Miller had all 11 of his points in the second half for Rutgers (2-1), who followed up its home win on Monday with another.
After a tight turnaround following Miami's victory over North Carolina Central in Coral Gables less than 48 hours ago, the Hurricanes (2-2) struggled to get their offense going and shot just 29.2 percent from the field, while turning the ball over 17 times.
The Hurricanes, who were held to 36 points below their season average, got 12 points and 14 rebounds from Johnson. However, the Hurricanes' backcourt duo of Durand Scott and Malcolm Grant -- who entered the game averaging a combined 30 points -- were limited to eight points on Sunday.
Rutgers used a 14-5 run early in the second half to open a 40-29 advantage. Holding a 52-43 edge with 3:09 left, Rutgers scored nine straight to open its largest lead at 61-43 with 1:08 remaining.

Anyone think Chud would want the job if Randy were let go? I wasnt exactly in love with him while he was at The U... but now he has a few years as an NFL OC and is the assistant HC for one of the top offensive teams in the NFL. Also he could bring back explosive TE's. Just throwing a name out there... not super, super sexy but a guy that could work out.

Soup, well said... Canespace is THE place for true U bloggers, and it has never been said that you're only welcome here or only a "true" fan if you're always a homer.
Some of the crap said about some of our finest Spacers on the last blog was just that... crap... but hey, we're all here about the same thing, so if somebody wants to vent... have at it. Just understand that YOUR definition of a true fan, and other people's definition of a true fan might be different.
But, like I said, we're all here about the same thing, (the U), and we're allowed to express our opinions whether they rub some people the wrong way or not.
This is America baby... love it or leave it!
Let's Go Canes!

Sorry I didn't post sooner but got home yesterday from the game and all i wanted to do was sleep.....but couldn't because I had unexpected guests who didn't leave till 8:00 PM....
No need to add more to the post that what has already been said about this team. I mean, what would be the point?
Outside the final outcome, I had a blast at the tailgate. It was great hanging out with SOUP, OGV and meeting new folks as well. Also great seeing CC, Rashad, and some other folks as well.

I don't know about anyone else, but once VT grabbed that last lead, I had this feeling in the pit of my stomach that things were not going to go the way I was hoping that they would go.
Why, oh why? Randy took out Lamar Miller, who was ripping that D to shreds, and put in Mike James who, let's face it, is nowhere near as talented as Miller! Why Randy?
Randy, I can't continue to support you if you continue making stupid decisions. That would be like a parent continuing to spoil his child! And Please, leave Morris as the starter, he has much more potential than Jascary does!
Randy, you are breaking my heart, man!!!

CGNC - Wish you were down for the game and joined us. The outcome was not what we had wished for but a good time was had by all. And the weather could not have been any better.....

THAT IS TRUE. After one run in the third quarter he came out and I was watching him on the sideline. He also looked like he had a bruised thigh or a pulled hammy.
Posted by: SOUP | November 22, 2010 at 09:36 AM
Miller was cramping after every run.
Posted by: canechic | November 22, 2010 at 09:23 AM
---------------------------------------------
And he still gained 165 yards lol.
As much as I love Berry, Miller should keep getting the bulk of the carries. He does more with the rock.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | November 22, 2010 at 09:39 AM
Start Miller and then let Berry get in the game later as the defense wears down. Hmmm, doesnt really matter anymore.
Next year... start Miller and then let James get some play as the defense wears down. Let Storm and Clements get some touches here and there. Don't leave Storm & Eduardo!!
Posted by: DZ8 | November 22, 2010 at 09:44 AM
Congrats to Hank for breaking the record.....now if only TB would work with Duper, maybe he wouldn't drop as many sure touchdowns like he dropped two sure touchdowns Saturday.
Morris and Miller show next year!

Hmmm, did I miss something?
Well, I am sure SOUP has it in good hands.
I thought these up this weekend while camping, far away from any internet, TV, or radio access. Might have been a good thing. Please note, they are NOWHERE Near as good as solar's video clips, but I never claimed to be at his level.
What would you call 86Cane if he were 300 pounds? Chunky Soup!
What would you call solarcane going before the Oscars for his movie? Solar Panel!
What would you call Six were on a radio show with a bunch of other guys? Six Pack!
What would you call Native Cane if he provided the best links on Canespace? Native Cane!

BLUE MOON TONIGHT:
That explanation said that the moon "... usually comes full twelve times in a year, three times for each season."
Occasionally, however, there will come a year when there are 13 full moons during a year, not the usual 12. The almanac explanation continued:
"This was considered a very unfortunate circumstance, especially by the monks who had charge of the calendar of thirteen months for that year, and it upset the regular arrangement of church festivals. For this reason thirteen came to be considered an unlucky number."
And with that extra full moon, it also meant that one of the four seasons would contain four full moons instead of the usual three.
"There are seven Blue Moons in a Lunar Cycle of nineteen years," continued the almanac, ending on the comment that, "In olden times the almanac makers had much difficulty calculating the occurrence of the Blue Moon and this uncertainty gave rise to the expression 'Once in a Blue Moon.'"

Now, on to the blog.
This breaking news story is true, there WAS a game there.
Sad to say that one team had to win, and it appears the better team won. Beyond that, we can cover position by position. But really, what is the point. The team we saw was not the team that lost to JMU, and earned the win.
Time for me to look over the old comments, and see how many folks called for Shannon, Whipple, Morris, and Donna to be bought a bus ticket out of town.
Posted by: Ungar | November 22, 2010 at 10:20 AM
At this point i’d even look at Mario Christobal, even tho the competition isnt as good, he took a 0-12 team and now they are 1 win from a bowl game. Shannon is a great father figure, but as a head coach he appears he needs to go refine his skills. Miami isnt the place to learn on the fly. I feel for him, but their are too many weapons on this team to be 7-4. The ACC is just a step above the Big East, weak!!! No way should this team have 3 ACC losses, 1 maybe , but not 3!.

From Manny
"The pass defense is good, but the run defense has given up more than 500 yards in the last two games combined. "

Well LOL why throw against a team when you can run on them?
Posted by: CGNC | November 22, 2010 at 10:40 AM
If I knew for a fact that Randy would be gone if the Canes lost the last two games, I find myself wondering if I would hope for that to happen. Would I really pull for the Canes to lose?
Posted by: Bad Bart | November 22, 2010 at 10:41 AM
In case Manny hasn't noticed, who in the hell have we played that has a good passing QB. The ACC is loaded with average throwing QB's. I can't believe how bad the Dee is. I mean we had about 15 to 16 guys coming back from last year that played alot. Our front 7 has to get better. We play good 2 out of 3 plays but we take a siesta on that one play and then boom 80 yards.
Posted by: herbieibis | November 22, 2010 at 10:50 AM
^ Yup
I've been saying this for years. I would much rather have 3rd and short vs 3rd and +8 any day of the week for this D. We are the absolute worst 3rd and long-yardage defense in the country. And this is unacceptable. Which is why Johnny-cakes needs to go with the rest of 'em.

And with that, there's just two games left in this once promising season. It's hard to get mad anymore when you just know this team has no idea how to compete with any half-decent team. El Paso isn't an impossible trip for me, but I have no interest in spending my time and money expriencing this in person.

--------------------------------
CGNC, i have been asking myself this question all weekend.
The game was going well until the 4th qt. On 2nd and 7 Franklin gets the holding penalty and the game went south from there.
On the next VT possession they take the lead and on the very next Miami possession, on 2nd and 8, Morris throws a pic that VT then went on to score, game over!
Before Morris threw that first pick, the previous 2 plays were running plays that went for 28 yds and 2 yds.
Down 7 with 10+ minutes on the clock in the 4th, like you said, why throw when your running the ball so well is the beyond me.

What a difference getting rid of Coker and bringing in Shannon has made.
Posted by: solarcane | November 22, 2010 at 11:23 AM
This program is such a joke anymore. It used to be a big deal when Miami lost, now its bigger deal when they or if they ever beat anyone of any quality. For this jerkoff to come out and say we should all be fired up for Senior Night and its not big deal to not win the ACC is all anyone needs to know this program is on the wrong track and Shannon is a terrible coach and crummy leader. Why would anyone waste their money and go see these guys attempt to play football and watch Shannon get outcoached. Although judging by the attendance on TV, alot of people didn't waste their money by the looks of it. Shannon is the worst coach and needs to be fired, we all know it. Miami gets what they pai for and they are getting exactly what they paid for in Randy Shannon.
All Miami fans should boycott the Ohio State game next year and/or not give their money to the Hurricane Club until that jerkoff Shannon is fired. Its the only way it will happen is when Shalala feels it in the pocketbook. The University, the city of Miami and we fans who have been there through it all deserve more and derserve better than Randy Shannon as the head coach of a once proud but now mediocre football team.

You ought to read Rudy Chomat's Rant at Canestime. He roast Shannon. Shannon's now blaming the tough schedule as another of his excuses for the teams up and down play. Throwing Morris deep under the us was bush league. No, the kid did struggle in the 4TH quarter but Butter Fingers Benjamin didn't help him either. Maybe some of those 4TH quarter INT's don't happen, if we didn't have defensive bust on the 43 yd. TD pass and the 84 YD. run. We should of taken the FG in the 1ST qT. Berry fumbled but he wasn't going to make the first down anyway. They then drive 84 yds for a TD.
We don't have to worry about teams beating us, if their patient we'll give them the game.
Much won't change next year. We will lose Gordan, Franklin, Hill, Berry and Bosher on Offense but really losing Hill will be the only real loss. That sucker can block. Defensively, we lose Bailey, McCarthey, and R. Hill and Holmes. Bailey is supposed to be some high NFL pick but consistantly, where has he been. McCarthey plays hard but he has way to many bust. I'm sure these guys will be good pro's. We can surely get these guys ready for the pro's but we just can't seem to get them to play college ball, at least not every game.

Thats true, but you have to start somewhere and money talks. I for one am done spending the money on this team. They are not getting a dime from me until he is fired. I will still watch on TV, when I am around, but I am done going to games. Until this Unversity decides to care that 4-5 losses and hiring sh*tty head coaches are unacceptable then I will think about giving my money again. I urge all of you to do the same.
