So Pete Caroll is rumored to be interested in the job with Bob Stoops as his assistant and Jimmy Johnson as recruiting coordinator. Also, Ray Lewis strength and conditioning with Rex Ryan as Defensive Coordinator and Bill Belichek as Offensive Coordinator and in charge of player development. Wr coach is Curtis Johnson and TE Coach will be Rob Chud. Rb coach will be Ed James and QB Coach will be Vinny Test with Ken Dorsey. We will follow that by paying each top player in the country a starting salary and now allow NFL players can come back to college and finish degrees and get higher education.. It is rumored that Andre Johnson and Reggie Wayne are heading back to the U for Masters in Football degrees. Also, new rule in NCAA football players that play for Miami can take horse hormones and steroids to enhance abilities while other teams trying to inmate the U will be given the death penalty. Thank you for taking a trip down fantasy land...now back to reality...

I heard since we are still paying Coker that we might bring him back for a year or two....

We just need a good coach to get us over the hump. My money is on Jim Haurbaugh or Gruden!!!

Bad Bart

Mark Richt would be nice, as would Cristobal or Trestman

2002nemo

Larry Coker?

ARCane

Wow!

roachcane77

I don't see Harbaugh leaving Stanford... that's just too much of a lateral move.

He's probably waiting for the Michigan job anyway.

Montreal-Cane

Mike Leach, Chris Peterson, Gary Patterson, Chucky, Mark Richt, Mario Cristobal, and Marc Trestman...those are the ones I've heard...

May be Mario or Mark Richt...Mark Trestman
will win the Grey Cup tomorrow with Montreal and will be available on Monday...Lol....

Randy will be a good DC up in a booth on a team somewhere.
He will be more comfortable out of the public eye, still well respected, and making a nice paycheck.

Goodbye Randy, good luck.

Pinoycane

Good Luck Randy Shannon. The Shannonites are no longer.

mi@mic@ne

I am surprised Stoutland is the interim coach.. evidently the Shannon Whipple disagreements were a major distraction to the team.

roachcane77

ITU is saying:

Brent Venables, Oklahoma Defensive Coordinator
Current Salary/Status $395,000
Age: 39

Close friend of Holcutt,,, never a been a head coach in college though...

MattInNY

DING DONG THE WITCH IS DEAD!!!!! Bye, bye crappy Randy Shannon!!!! Don't let the door hit you on the way out. He was never the right guy in the first place. In any case, Shannon is gone, its a great day!!!

that would suck. didnt we just endure that kind of crapass move?

Canefantasy

The talent in Miami is tremendous. Any Coach that wants to elevate his career will be knocking at the door. Shannon did a heck of a job recruiting with what he had. All these places Oregon, Florida, USC, Ohio States invest millions and millions in recruiting and slimy ways and political warfare to get players to come to their schools. While Shannon built relationships and invested time, energy, and love. I think Shannon's departure will hurt us from getting the type of players we have really fallen in love with recently at Miami. I think to win today you have to really sell yourself to the devil. I think that we will start seeing the Willie Williams and Thugs that Florida and Georgia and these top schools deal with back at Miami to start winning again. I would rather have a mediocre 9-4 or 8-5 years with the players we have now.... then what we are about to embark in with entitlement, bribes, and sleazy tactics to get players. the Urban Myers and Nick Satans do this and I can see Gruden or Leach doing the same. Tonight, I am really encouraged to possibly get a top tier coach and be lead to a NC, but on the flip side I feel that we have really lost tonight with loosing Shannon..Things will be different around Miami thats for sure!

MattInNY

Oh, and if its not too much trouble, can we release Jaskinny Harris too from his scholarship and have Shannon and Harris on the same greyhound bus out of town. If we are going to clean house, than clean house. Harris has to go too!!

raizecane

that would suck. didnt we just endure that kind of crapass move?

I agree. Miami needs to hit a HR with it's next hire. No if, and's or but's about it....

herbieibis

Since Mussberger, says we finally canned Shannon, I'm sitting here and watching Oak & OSU and wondering why our offense can't be this explosive. We had speed and everything you need to average 40 pts a game and all we can score is 28 against Duke, 19 @ Virginia and 20 against SFU, thre sorry ass teams. These 2 teams would average half a hundred against them.
We don't need Gruden, or any other coach from the pros because they won't stay long. OSU's Offensive coordinator, Halgerson. These 2 teams are scoring at will. I'm loving the spread more and more. It's to hard to find a true pro style QB. 75% of high school teams are running the spread. They need to get a new head coach in place quick, .

VA Cane

I do not see Petersen Patterson or Richt coming....I like Gruden in the booth, he had a good Oakland team, won at Tampa with Dungeys guys, but he had to get them to buy in....never impressed with his offense, what offense...but I bet he would be a good recruiter....and he is into the game....a real gamer...think it is rumor though....I think with the Coker money, RS and finances the way they are.....that the U will be a tough sell....Pres and AD are cheap, they just want to fill the post to keep our mouths quiet, and make us believe....Rage Against the Darkness e mail those 2 A**HOLEs and tell them we want a real coach....or their ass is next!!!

AlpharettaCane

Roach - interesting angle, who is close to Holcutt....?

Shannon has been nicked - fatally.

Hate to see Whipple go - liked the "verticality" he brought to the offense. I pictured Shannon and Whipple in front of the board of trustees, each pointing at each other and saying "he did it!" "No, he did it first!" "No, it was his fault!"

CGNC

"Shannon's departure will hurt us from getting the type of players we have really fallen in love with recently at Miami."

???????

mi@mic@ne

The best is Butch... he can assemble the best athletes. Where can we get a guy in that kind of JJ mold?

Six

VACane - ya brother, I have nothing to get mad about when the USF peeps around here try to give me the bidness ... they won ... without BJ Daniels no less

They sent Bobby Bowden out with a loss

They sent Randy Shannon out with a loss

You know what was crazy? During the game today, I said to a guy I was working with, it's sad when I can say that USF looks like it has more promise with their head coach than Miami does with its head coach

dadesfynest83

Brent Venables ???

ok...I can deal with that. That's would be a nice hire with a guy that's been running a "D" who's traditionally known as being solid...I'd like more of a splash tho...

solarcane

herb,
We won 5 NCs with coaches that didn't stay long.
We need a great coach to win a NC, get us back in the limelight then we can make do with a pretty good coach or two and cruise like we did when was fab.

MattInNY

Canefantasy you are funny! Did you really just type that Miami lost tonight when they fired Shannon!?!?!? Really dude?!!? I guess you like seeing 3/4 empty stadiums, averaging 5 loses a year, a head coach who has no clue what he is doing, players unprepared for games. Get real bro!

CGNC

Frm Manny

Over the past month, I've been told by several sources who have a vested interest in UM that Georgia's Mark Richt and former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach are at the top of UM's wish list. We'll see if that comes to fruition.

MattInNY

Miami needs to hit a HR but unless they are willing to open the wallets and pay for a top tier guy, than they will get exactly what they pay for and they will have Randy Shannon all over again. Miami got what they paid for in Randy Shannon! In todays world of college football, money talks. Miami's reputation will not cut it. Those days are over folks!

Sebastian

Butch and Leach are 2 bums that shouldnt even be considered for the BOSS position

VA Cane

Butch got us there when he was here....but he said he was here to stay and booked to the NFL...I know its a dream for all coaches...but he was not good in Cleveland...and I am not impressed with the players or record at UNC...they had good teams in the 70s and 80s....but have never been a big time school....I do not know that Butch can get us any further than RS...and he has dirty laundry he knew what was up at UNC. Thats one reason I never really liked Erickson....I think he was a greasy cheater as well.....he was fortunate to have followed JJ....got good players and had good teams due to good coaches, JJs and HSs name....

mi@mic@ne

Butch had a bunch of NFL talent on UNC... its really tough to recruit in a basketball school. Butch assembled the 2002 team.. arguably the best college team ever. We need some bad playas.. they get at it in the crunch.

dadesfynest83

Any idea on what coaches are possibilities?

Posted by: Bad Bart | November 27, 2010 at 11:09 PM

Not in any particular order...Mike Leach, Chris Peterson, Gary Patterson, Chucky, Mark Richt, Mario Cristobal, and Marc Trestman...those are the ones I've heard...

*** oh yea, and Dan Mullen***

mi@mic@ne

Butch was JJs d coordinator

AlpharettaCane

Herbie - read that Halgerson was one of 5 assistants / coordinators who were considered on the way up...others were Malzhan, O coordinators at Mich State (Treadwell) and Boise St (Harsin) and Kevin Steele, D Coordinator - Clemson.

Personally, I don't think any of those are viable candidates.

BEERicane

We are getting RS part II aren't we?

CGNC

C you - it is midnight - have to get going before my coach turns into a pumpkin

Six

I have nothing against Boss Man at all. I said I'd give him 5 years to turn everything around from what he inherited. But it was tough to watch the team come out unprepared and go into a shell when faced with adversity - even with trying to figure out any kind of reason why and defend it. Then when Boss Man said that Duke was a tough place to play - that was it, it was over for me

He just wasn't head coaching material yet

Too loyal to some players, to an extreme fault. Benching some players but not others

The time management issues, eh, even Butch Davis and Les Miles still have those

Do you blame the guy for taking the head coaching job? Wouldn't you? He was the 4th or 5th choice or whatever it was .... in his case, yes, you really do get what you pay for. Does some of the blame lie on Miami for not being able to land who they really wanted and then having to settle?

I wish the guy well and he isn't exactly going out too badly in the financial aspect of it

One thing you can't hold against him are some of the players he did bring in. More good than bad in the past couple of years

The future looks good b/c of these players. Linder, Henderson, Lamar, Storm, Cleveland, Cain, etc. and of course some of the older players he brought in - Brandon Harris, Sean Spence, Washington, etc.

So whoever they do bring in, hopefully it's someone with head coaching experience and not just coordinator only experience - b/c this team right now needs a shot of someone that knows what to do with talent and lead it

I didn't mind the way that Boss Man thought about trying to raise these kids into men ... but it's too bad he couldn't spend as much time getting these kids prepared for game as much as he could for the classroom and beyond as well

VA Cane

Saw on the Herald where a guy said keep all the defensive coaches....so we can continue to arm tackle, leave TEs open, blow coverages or allow 80+ yard runs? I think that head knockers saw the confrontation between RS and Whip....blamed them both and let them go....some of these players need to go too....take those Free Rides back...I do feel really bad for RS....cause I know it hurts him....he does love UM....but I guess it had to happen....especially after these last 5 weeks. I went to the UVA game to try to get away from my Dads death....what a mistake.....I saw a team die on the field....UVA was just a joke...but they played that day...kind of made you see that things were going south and that this was going to happen

AlpharettaCane

Shannon reaped what he sowed. Perhaps next time around he'll be a little more open, a little more humble, a little more approachable.

Coker got the last laugh on that prediction.

Re Richt, the radio stations here in Atlanta have a ball busting on how stoic and un-emotional he is......

My Christmas wish is Harbaugh, although Rich Rod seems like the ice just got thinner with another blowout loss to the Buckeyes, and Harbaugh seems like a natural replacement.

Felipe.

Cristobal, Chud(polishspellingski), Malzahn, if Gruden isn't up for it.

Six

Jim Harbaugh is my fantasy world coach, much like Gruden is to others

Here's the question as well - say they do spend the coin on getting a next level type coach .... how much coin is it going to cost to get his staff as well

That's the first thing that came to my mind when Gruden's name came up. Even if they did have the money to get him - which would be insanely surprising if they did - could they afford a staff for him as well, and what's to say he wouldn't do a stick-and-move and bolt for the NFL soon b/c of the job opening possibilities there?

Would an NFL lockout help the Canes if they did somehow go into fantasy land and get Gruden?

AlpharettaCane

Assume Pannunzio guilty by association?

mi@mic@ne

We need a coach who knows what the old Cane d development was all about.. the philosophy... and we need a guy who knows how to develop players into pro material .. Miami is not like any other college town. We have the best athletes in our back yard. But they need to develop.

VA Cane

Well put Six.

I know one thing....not interested in Leach....he is not a football coach he is a social joke. Texas Tech Football....give me a break...that gimmick football....maybe it sells, but i am not buying. He is a slob and has never heard of defense. Hated those teams and players....just cannot see it. This search will take a while, and its gonna be tough. All those All Pros that have complained out put some $ on the table to help....cause there are a lot of them who make it.

Six

Wouldn't you guys want a head coach with experience to come in, instead of another coordinator?

It will never happen, but, can you imagine if Bobby Petrino came here? Talk about the Canes being atop of the most hated list again ... that guy took a Louisville program and did alright with it. He's a pompous ass, but, you'd like him as your head coach b/c of it as well

I didn't like what he pulled at Atlanta, but, you see what he's doing with Arkansas

AlpharettaCane

I have a feeling that money, although an issue, won't be the barrier we all think it is...

Some mega-rich donors / ex-players, I would hope, would step up and do what it takes.

Wonder how many $5MM Schwartzes are out there? And maybe the HC takes lower salary in order to help fund some top-level assistants, a la Tennessee when Kiffin loaded up with his top-name assistants

Canefantasy

Seriously, I do not see the University putting up huge money for a real slim shady. My fear is that Shannon knew these kids and new recruits for years building these amazing relationships and really learning their characters off the field - getting the type of players Sean Spence, Allen Baily, Ray Ray Armstrong. Honestly, look at our team it is freaking amazing off the field. And has potential with proper leadership on the field to be great... Trust me we have more amazing potential first rounders because of Shannons ability to recruit than we have bad Benjamins dropping wide open balls out there. Storm Johnson 71 yard run is proof we are loaded with talent.. he was what 6th Rb in the depth chart. I think that we are going to start seeing these 5 stars with the amazing classes like these other programs which is all fine and dandy and hopefully translate on the field. we will win again with Julio Jones and Aj Green type players. My only fear in loosing Shannon is our image might leave with him. He really cared and wanted the best out of these men off the field. However, I think that Shannon needed to go and is a terrible head coach but he will be missed with all the other aspects he brought to the table. He seriously was great at being a defensive guru, Recruiting, Bleeding orange and green, and discipline off the field! My biggest fear is that we start becoming the old U again off the field... also sad if you think about where all of are priorities lie. I don't care if we are getting shot, scandals, violence, thugs as long as we get that National Championship again. If you look at any top program with top recruiting classes you get entitled baby immature Terrell Owens/Cancers all over your team... Look at Georgia or Florida or Alabama or Notre Damn, or USC...All I am saying is I hope the new coach can bring us to glory land by getting the type of character and players Shannon got off the field and translate it on the field as well which is something Shannon couldn't get done and it cost him. Its sad to see him go like this.

mi@mic@ne

I read that the U signed a new 3 million dollar contract with espn...

AlpharettaCane

CaneFantasy = sorry, disagree strongly.

Shannon was slipping in recruiting...you can't bring in a bunch of kids to big games like UVA (Orange Bowl) and FSU (this year) and get blown out, and not expect it to impact these kids.

And as far as player development, absoultely non-existent. Same mistakes, poorly motivated, penalties, drops, lack of emotion, you could go on and on.

Other programs recruit decent kids - Shannon didn't have a lock on gettin high character kids.
