As the Miami Hurricanes head into their next ACC contest against Georgia Tech in Atlanta UM the Hurricanes' season and head coach Randy Shannon's coaching career literally hangs in the balance.
And if you think for one minute that it doesn't then you should consider this:
Technically Miami must beat Georgia Tech today and hope for a VT loss to North Carolina to set up a winner take all match between the Hurricanes and the Hokies next Saturday in Miami.
Miami took care of the Turtles last week and now must take the sting out of the Yellow Jackets to keep their ACC title hopes alive for the 2010 season.
Technically Randy Shannon will complete his fourth season as head coach at Miami on 11/27/10 against USF at Sun Life Stadium and has never even come close to winning an ACC Championship.
Georgia Tech under Paul Johnson has.
Shannon's overall record as of now is 27-20 and 14-16 in the ACC.
Technically that is not good. Technically that stinks for a school like Miami.
Techincally that could get U fired even if you are graduating all of your players.
He has to win out this year or face serious consequences and watch as Georgia Tech's band (seen above outside of Raymond James Stadium) plays at the ACC title game while Miami sits at home.
Technically we think Coach Shannon can get the job done and that he will this Saturday. He simply must. He absolutely has to.
GO MIAMI, BEAT GEORGIA TECH!!!
Thanks a ton Soup! Those places look awesome.
We are having a week long party up to the wedding and need this kind of info to help with entertaining the guests. I wanna hit up a full moon party!

My pleasure to help out!
U can't go wrong with ANY of them. They are all a little different, some more local, some more touristy, but they are ALL good.
If there are a lot of couples/women involved U may wanna start at The Islamorada Fish Company and then work your way down the list.

Hey Beer, I'm driving over for Roger Water's tonight right after the game!! I have tickets to the Tampa show on Tuesday as well!! I got to see the "Dark Side of the Moon" show in '06, so my expectations are very high for tonights "The Wall" show.
The first thing I checked when I got my tickets a few months ago was when UM was playing!! I was praying the show and the game would not overlap!!
Go 'canes!!

Go back and read the post again and try and stay calm a focused, and resist channeling Captain Optimist.
Everything in that post is facts not infatuation or hero worship.
your wotrds:
In the 20 year period from (1983-2003) Miami was one of the top 3 winningest or "BIGGEST" football programs in the Country
my words:
We were only relevant for 19 years in the world of college football.
We did all our NC winning in a very brief segment of football history.
That's exactly the same thing, you are just making my point.
I asked if Stanford was harder to get into than Miami. I never said Stanford is more relevent than Miami in the history of college football.
How you got mixed up interpting it I dunno.
We were good for twenty years ,thats not a long time when you look at how long college football has been played.
It's up to us to be good for twenty more years in a row. But we need the next twenty to start pretty dang soon.

Im going to give this `Canes score prediction thing one last chance
I havent been close on 1 score the entire year but im going to try it today
`Canes-38
`Bees-27
I will point out 1 thing for the best team in the 305 right now
`Canes 6-3
Heat 5-4
Panthers 7-7
Dolphins 4-4
Posted by: Sebastian | November 13, 2010 at 10:53 AM
And remember during that 20 year period there was a very bad 7 year stretch. So in total we were relevant for maybe 10 of those 20 years? Compared to USC, Notre Dame, Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan........

Nick says I need to include Oklahoma and Nebraska to my list
Posted by: canechic | November 13, 2010 at 11:00 AM
canechic,
I think a lot of Miami fans perception of the program comes from how old they happened to be between 1983 and 2001.
Younger fans see our great teams in documents and You Tube clips. They might think that is how it has always been.
People that were around 19 or 20 in the 80s became fans right during the peak of success.
They are just starting to realize we aren't going to be the 2001 Canes every season and that's hard to accept.
The older fans, that sat through what we are going through now, before the great years, realize how wonderful and improbable a run like that was.
That doesn't make anybody a truer fan or bigger fan.

Solar...U are right, I was wrong.
U caught me. Obviously U got me pegged as a Captain Optimist wanna-be and to be suffering from infatuation with UM and Hero worship.
Yeah that's me. Exposed at last. Feels better now that it is out in the open. Thanks!

"We were good for twenty years ,thats not a long time when you look at how long college football has been played."
YOUR POINT IS VALID AND U ARE 100% CORRECT BUT NOBODY HERE CARES ABOUT BEFORE 1970 OR ABOUT ANY OTHER SCHOOL'S HISTORY OR RECORD OTHER THAN MIAMI. THAT'S WHY THIS IS CALLED CANESPACE!
It's up to us to be good for twenty more years in a row. But we need the next twenty to start pretty dang soon.
ON THIS WE AGREE 100%!
GO CANES, BEAT GT!!!

Solar no doubt....many of them just need to get real. Like I said many times great people coming together to do great things is sometimes once in a lifetime.
Beatles
Founding Fathers
1972 Dolphins
Steelers in the 70's
2000-2002 UM football team
And sometimes luck plays a big hand.

Just catching up on the blog. Read alot but dont post much(to emotional after wins and losses its a fault im working on) and while i do think Solar plays devils advocate a little to much some times, it does stimulate conversation though, he is right on with the Boise st jealousy on this blog and his current opinions about our coach and the football teams place in college football history

Solar, beer is right, Stanford is very difficult to get admitted. From what I've seen locally it is very similar to Miami's situation; kids who can get into Cal for football have no shot at Stanford. But if you get into Stanford it's almost impossible to fail out- nobody does unless they commit a major crime (and I'm serious). As for Cal, they take athltetes that Miami won't touch. Cal obviously has a great academic reputation but they are more than willing to overlook trnascripts for athletes. And USC isn't known as The University of Spoiled Children for nothing. :)

CaneChic, I agree with you that Miami was "relevant for 10 of those 20 years", but here's the thing...Miami produced 5 RINGS IN THOSE 10 YEARS! Not even the 49ers produced that many rings in their era of dominance. And the way Miami produced those rings was through innovation, breaking the notion that College kids can't run certain offenses or defenses. Schnellenberger broke the notion that College kids can't run a Pro-Style offense. JJ reinvented the 4-3 defense, so much so, that they now call it the "Miami 4-3". Erickson made the One Back Offense en vogue...

Now on to the predictions!!! I still have no idea what to expct today. I'll go with optimism and call if 20-16 Miami

wartown canes,
I really appreciate that I'm not kidding.
It's tough to be the antpile kicker sometimes.
Think how many good debates and spirited conversations we would miss on here if we were just another homer blog.
GO CANES!!! GO Tarheels!!

And don't think that are Big East schedule did not help us. Look it appears now that "strength of schedule" is losing its luster...Boise could go to the big game with only 2 big games and no conference game. So why play this tough schedule anymore? Big East had some decent teams but really guys we only played a few big games a year and no conference game....sound familiar?
Canerock look at USC's stretches and Notre Dame's Stretches.....They have a pretty good history too.

The refs are going to be one sided... i dont think we can avoid cut blocks.
If our d backs come up and tackle ... turn the play inside... fill the holes.. then we can cut down on the long runs.
I think Morris establishes himself ... he has the mechanics so its just a matter of finding the open receiver. Hopefully we can get Benji in stride with one of those ropes in the first half... Morris is the guy who can give us a new level of play. The d will be motivated if he is successful.

I hope Randy had a nice conversation with the refs today and asked them to be on the lookout for those cheap blocks.

canechic,
Great post with the list on it.
I think we fail to fully appreciate greatness when we witnessed it, but as time goes on we began to realize how fortunate we were to have seen it happen.
At first I thought Muhammad Ali was a big mouth showboater, as time went on and I saw what he did for boxing I realized he was The Greatest.
