As I predicted last week only 11 teams are left on the Shortlist in 2010 and the programs rate in order of worthiness for consideration of a top two ranking as follows:
Auburn, TCU, Boise State, Oregon, LSU, Stanford, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Ohio State, and Michigan State.
Between calling the sad homecoming in the Florida capitol a month prior to it transpiring and going four for five in Shortlist elimination predictions, this comes as close to a banner week as you'll ever see on the Shortlist for myself, but one team found a way to breakup the perfection for me last week:
1) LSU makes the Tide lose in Baton Rouge by a final score of 24-21 as the most overpaid coach in America loses to the second most overpaid coach in America. Unfortunately for exasperated Tiger fans, Les Miles now looks like a near lock to remain on the Shortlist until the end of the year. Having me said that publicly now, he's sure to lose the battle of the Golden Boot which he's 1-3 with an overtime win in the last three years. A small price to pay to get rid of the biggest head coaching joke in the game on the Shortlist in my opinion and one I'll be all too happy to pay when it turns out that way.
Of course, that means only one team found themselves off the Shortlist last week despite me not calling for them to, the wire-to-wire pole sitter on 2009's Shortlist:
1) Alabama. Memo to the cousin-marrying-state: The Bear is still dead, Mark Ingram Jr. couldn't hold Bo's jock if Jackson placed it in his hand to start with and Little Brother is coming for blood this year. It's not too soon to convert now before it gets real ugly for the dead-sea-washout fans.
I'm extremely tempted to predict no one falling of the Shortlist this week but ultimately, I can't go with the prevailing conventional wisdom and have to call for an unlucky 13 wins by Texas in a row over the only team I expect off the Shortlist this week:
Oklahoma State.
When you haven't won in Austin since World War II was wrapping up, you've still got a lot to prove as a program in my opinion, but the Cowboys can and do have the talent and ability to end the futility this time around. The results against common opponent Nebraska though forces me to make this against-the-grain call, even though this presumed pre-season, "W," for Texas no longer can be considered as such in November.
With so few teams left in contention the eliminations will slow to a trickle as we navigate down the final weeks and possibly the most surprising end to a football season in memory draws ever closer with each upset result here on the Shortlist to the Site of the Shanghaied 'Ship.

I remember hearing this as well but I think it was assumed this would be a prime time night game - white out @ G-tech with coastal division title implications. I'm putting my money on white jerseys/orange pants!
Posted by: ColoradoCane | November 10, 2010 at 03:56 PM
Didn't we wear all whites in Atlanta two years ago when they manhandled us?
Posted by: ColoradoCane | November 10, 2010 at 03:57 PM
CG, LMAO!!
I'll take 16 asian girls on one bike versus a guy rubbing his nutsak on a horses back 100 out of 100 times lol!!
Posted by: solarcane | November 10, 2010 at 03:58 PM
drew,
I think GT is one of only a couple teams in the country that wear their white jersey for their home jersey.
If that's still true we will be in a dark jersey.
I'll try and ask the GT fans around here if GT always wears white at home though

The Team That Can Never Play a Color-vs.-Color Game
By Paul Lukas, on July 19th, 2010
As you probably know, Georgia Tech always wears white at home. And since almost everyone else wears color at home, that basically means Tech wears white for every game. They also seem to be one of those teams that revise their uniforms on a near-annual basis (I believe that’s actually part of their deal with Russell Athletic — a new design every season), so each year they trot out two new jerseys, one of which never gets worn.
Russell has come up with a novel solution to that problem this year: The Yellow Jackets will have two different white jerseys — one for home and one for the road. As you can see, the only difference between the two designs is that the home jersey has a gold collar, cuffs, and side panels, while those elements are navy on the road version.
Georgia Tech isn’t the first team to have two white jerseys, but I’m pretty sure this is the first time a team has had separate white designs with specific home and road designations. It’s a merchandising boondoggle, natch — a way for Russell to market two jerseys that are in regular on-field rotation instead of one.
Such distinctions notwithstanding, is that a miserable design or what? If forced to choose, I’d go with the road version, but it’s a train wreck either way. Yeesh
Posted by: solarcane | November 10, 2010 at 04:06 PM
I think if Randy refused to the NCAA about wearing a dark jersey on the road maybe GT has to wear their gold or navy blue jerseys
heck I dunno lol!

I believe you are correct solar:

I've seen it three times and am ALWAYS amazed.
Posted by: SOUP | November 10, 2010 at 04:11 PM
colorado,
great minds lol!
The only reason I thought they always wear white at home is every GT jersey i see on fans here in Georgia is the white one with gold collar
I think GT in gold helmets, navy blue jerseys and white pants looks better myself.
It looks more Notre Damish when we are playing them.

Solarcane - Viva France! LMAO. Hey, that guy can flat out ride! And the horse is honest - those fences look 5-6 feet - talk about trusting your partner.
UMike - no I am not. The only game I will go to this year would be the ACC title game (cough cough) if they make it :-D
Posted by: CGNC | November 10, 2010 at 04:43 PM
DTX - worse team ... the Dallas Cowboys of 2010 or the 2007 Miami Hurricanes
Kitna making $4 Million to me is a complete joke. Why is your back up making that kind of money? Even as starter before he came to Dallas, he'd only thrown more TDs than INTs in a season 3 times - from 1997-2010
Also, what in the hell is wrong with their Defense? 2nd to last in the NFL in PPG given up (232)
I don't mind it too much though - seeing both the Longhorns and Cowboys struggling this year makes me turn my frown upside down on bad days ... esp. seeing a Cane (Sam Shields) grab an INT away from Miles Austin in their last game
Posted by: Six | November 10, 2010 at 02:43 PM
LOL. Toss up Six. I'll say this year's 'Boys tho. They're "professionals" right? Plus, no one on the Cowboys can tackle like Bosher! That was a real pretty play Shields made. Without caring at all about any debatable implications to the CANES coaching situation, I'd like to say it's really cool to see Sam Shields not only playing in the league but excelling. That guy truly turned it around and went from dead end to NFL starter. Plus, a few more plays like the one U reference and he'll be in the Pro Bowl some day. I'm happy for him.
Posted by: DallasTX Cane | November 10, 2010 at 05:15 PM
D Linemen? JB no doubt.
Now, I don't remember The Stork so won't speak to his ability comparative to the other greats, but he is obviously top 5 or better. Warren Sapp turned out to have a better pro career than Russell Maryland and was probably the better college player also. Russell is more of a personal fav for me tho.
Cortez Kennedy though is probably right there with Jerome and perhaps should be considered a snails azz width above because he was blessed to play a full pro career. Too bad he played in Seattle. If he'd spent his time (the 90s) playing in San Fran or Dallas or Green Bay or Denver or...anywhere other than Seattle, he'd probably have been a 2nd ballot HOF'er.
Posted by: DallasTX Cane | November 10, 2010 at 05:25 PM
Sapp is a tough one for me to judge- loved what he did on the field, but always thought he let us down with the positive test and his conditioning could have been better. The the cover-up that followed contributed to the punishment UM received.

CGNC, My uncle asked me to break one of his Quarter horses out of the starting gates at his horse farm when I was 16. The horse was OJ's Magic who wound up horse of the year at Pompano later. I was wearing coochie cutters ( jort jorts) because we had just come from the swimming hole, and needless to say by the time Me and Magic had gone a quarter mile half of my boyz were on one side of them jorts and half on the other side and I was one hurtin' little jockey.
