wow i had no idea UM went thru so many helmets.... i mean when they came into the national spotlight they never changed their helmets from then but that is a cool site - thanks solar

I'd like to see those black & white lookin' things we had on in the early goings of The U 30 for 30.

I call those particular jerseys, The Solars........

Anyone ever seen a shirt or ballcap with the hurricane flag on it? I think that'd be pretty sweet.

A couple of quotes from Dan Mullen, at Miss State:

"If you put a dot on Starkville and draw a five-hour radius around it, there is enough talent for us to win a national championship. And those are kids who grew up with similar values in the south and a work ethic they were brought up with and had instilled in them. And there's also the opportunity for their families to come watch them play.

"When I saw the talent base here and in that area, I thought we could get players to come play for us. If we can get players here, we will be good enough coaches to coach 'em up on the field that we'll be successful."

"As of right now, they like me a lot, so they may keep me here for a while. Hopefully, I can make it through the 12-year gauntlet that seems to be about the lifespan of a coach.

Someone told me you have a two-year grace period, and every year after that, you kind of upset about 10 percent of the alums. And you never win them back. I am two years in, so in 10 years, I will have annoyed 100 percent of the people here and they will be ready to get rid of me."

Drew72 - man ... hearing Barrow preaching at the beginning and Randy Shannon "Ray Lewis-ing" in the locker room ... with that music ... gets you jacked up

Sean Spence had a nice line "Ain't nobody here for us, we're here for ourself" .... with the barren stands surrounding them all in the background

Which ACC coordinator is most likely to be a head coach in the near future?

Former UM D.B. Coach and current FSU D- Coordinator Mark Stoops ...

Hhhmmmmmmmmmm ?

Which ACC Head Coach is likely to be a coordinator in the near future?

Thanks for the youtube link Six. Put a smile on my face after all the negativity in Canedom this week:)

How does youtube have so many cameramen that they are out there filming SO much stuff? They must be rich.

Quarterback Jacory Harris, who will not play Saturday at Georgia Tech, surfaced at practice Wednesday for the first time since sustaining a concussion Oct. 30. Harris wore his white jersey -- no pads -- and black shorts, but did not don a helmet. He threw passes during individual drills.

True freshman Stephen Morris hasn't taken Harris' starting job — coach Randy Shannon has made that clear. But in just six quarters of action, Morris has stolen support from J12, a once-popular figure who started 22 consecutive games before last week and ranks second all-time at UM in touchdown passes (50) and third in passing yards (6,193).

The Hurricanes' leading rushers, Damien Berry and Lamar Miller, practiced Wednesday in full pads and are expected to play in Saturday's crucial game at Georgia Tech.

Has Randy Shannon gotten himself into a little feud with Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson.

During his news conference at UM on Tuesday, Shannon said Georgia Tech employed the chop block as part of its blocking scheme. Chop blocks are considered personal fouls in college football and bring a 15-yard penalty. A chop block occurs when a defensive player is engaged by two opponents, one hitting above the waist and the other below.

hi pb,
Kennedy turned into a bad boy after he got here that's for sure.
Cortez was damn lucky to have Shannon as a roommate.
Remember what a huge fat azz Kennedy was at first, you would see him in for what two plays? then he'd sitting on the sideline gasping for air.
He looked like he was going to be a bust.
Randy gets in his room and turns Cortez into an NFL hall of famer.
Posted by: solarcane | November 10, 2010 at 02:40 PM

Soooo... Using this logic, we just need Randy Shannon to sleep with each player.

"Seantrel, tonight is your night with me. Bring your pajamas, I don't want any bareback mountain catching me from the "blind side"."

Prospective NFL players will be BEGGING to sleep with Randy. "Just a gigalo, everywhere I go..."

That is shocking, but I am thankful that they caught this.

1:15 The play I was talking about before when I gave him a shot at best lineman status.
1:45 Is that little boy the same one that not only played for UM Baseball, but is now almost 30 years old? GOD AM I GETTING OLD!

THANK U! to all the Veterans out there.

I'll have to watch it from home Ungar, not allowed youtube @ work. Damn the man!

Lmao! Ya know, I don't remember where I heard it, but I read a story somewhere about this girl who kept sending emails, mail, phone messages to Youtube to get someone to come to her house to film her because she had something really awesome to show them.

...They never came. Lol

I would go! Girl showing something awesome? I'm there with my cameras!

Michael Scott in The Office was planning a party and he told someone, "Call youtube they should be here filming this."

Thought it was hilarious.

Captain Optimist aka Cavaleer

pbc that's a good point.

Marve being to short, but Jacory being just the right height.

Makes Jacory's penchant for throwing picks even worse.

I like Morris, we all do.
You already see the same people that were going to Jacory's Sophomore Heisman Award Reception, grinding away on Morris' leg.

Posted by: solarcane | November 10, 2010 at 10:58 AM

Just like people were doing when Kenny Kelly went down.

Reality is reality. Morris is bigger and better for this system and possibly this TEAM in every way.

And I don't recall ANYONE talking about J12 for Heisman after the midpoint of last season, let alone this year.

I read that just after "U" posted it. I was almost suckered into responding by explaining that all the vids were uploaded to U tube by individuals with a camera or phone capable of taking vids.
BUT I WAS too Smart:-).

That was the point, and as expected it went right over your head.

No one was talking about Harris after he fugged up, just like the won't if Morris screws up and Bridgewater beats him out.
I don't know if that happens or not, you don't either, no one does.

Capt you will immediately build Morris' legend and proclaim he is exactly what we need just like you did with Coker, Shannon,Jacory, and dozens of others over the years.
Eventually you might want to let the person prove they aren't a one night stand. It gives your opinion a lot more credibility if the predictions you make ever pan out.

Sit back and let Morris play a couple more than 6 quarters before you compare him to Dorsey talking Kellys place.

When you get ready to tell me this has nothing to do with what you are talking about go back and read a couple hundred of your posts about how positive you are Shannon is going to be a great Head coach.

Its the same thing every year with every player or coach that comes here.
You state how tremendous and important they are and go on for a season or so, then they turn out to be very average and you suddenly explain how useless they are after we have told you that very thing months or years before you realize it.

It isn't gonna change, so tell us how Morris will have more Tds than Jacory by his second year.

His name IS Captain Optimist:)

Good call Fran! I remeber once solar corrected me when I tried to make a joke about Reno 911!!

Happy Veteran's Day everyone! And THANK YOU, Veterans!

There isn't anyone winning the Heisman in this offense lol! I'm not gonna give up on J12 yet. I think he could be highly successful and effective if Whipple dumbs the offense down like he did for Morris last week. No QB is going to be successful when throwing fades, posts and flags every damn play. Where in the hell are the crossing routes and slant routes? Use those shorter quick hitting routes along with the run game to open up those deep routes and I think J12 is a different QB with much better numbers. I do like the fact that Morris passes get to the recievers much quicker allowing them to use their speed and elusiveness to turn short gains into long gains but I'm not crowning him quite yet. (Put up 400 and 4 TDs on GT this weekend and I might change my tune!)

Happy Veteran's Day everyone! And THANK YOU, Veterans!

^^^^^ what he said ^^^^^^

Deep felt thanks to everyone that has or is currently, doing or done, the most dangerous job in the world to ensure our freedom or the freedom of others

I have 2 in my family. My grandfather, who was stationed in England and flew in B-17 bombing missions over Germany. A whole different world for a 20 year old cowboy from southwest Texas. He was in charge of the Norden bombsight on the plane. A very deadly piece of equipment

My brother in law, who was stationed over in Korea and was 101st Airborne, Special Forces

For those who have WW2 vets in their family, spend as much time with them as you can, take a tape recorder or video camera and just talk with them ... sometimes a hidden tape recorder is good, b/c when certain people see that they're being recorded, they don't act or speak as natural. These men/women are real treasures and are slowly passing on, we need to preserve their stories. I've got some from my grandfather that still boggle my mind, even though I've heard them plenty of times, they never get old .. and as I asked him more questions as I got older, I got more side stories to the main story he would tell

Ultimate respect and thanks again to all those who have served or are currently serving

38-21 Canes over GT!

Once again, LM6 goes for 100+ and 1-2 tds, and Morris continues to grow up before our eyes.

DZ8 - ya man, that video was great. Drew72 actually posted it first ... great find by Drew72. I always wondered at Canes games, who were the guys that were running around with the little hand held cameras on the sidelines, and allowed in between the 35s, right in the middle of the Canes sideline next to the coaches. We're not allowed to stand past a certain point, the 35s to the 50. There's a line that stops right there at the 35s and they have people standing there to tell you to get back if you cross it

I always wondered what would happen if you crossed that line. Like, if I put my foot across it, would I go into another dimension or something similar to what happened in "Field of Dreams" and turn from Archie Graham to Dr. Archibald "Moonlight" Graham

Respect and love to all vets today!

Good afternoon everyone, I want to first wish every one a Happy Veteran's Day. I am enjoying my day off and have been trying to catch up on what I have been missing. First off I would like to say that I am really liking what I have seen so far from Stephen Morris. He has that "moxy" that separates a good QB from a great QB. With that being said make no mistake GT is a good football team and they will be ready for us defensively and offensively. Al Grogh will be ready and I am sure he will throw a few wrinkles here and there. Mainly putting pressure on a young QB who is going to starting on the road for the first time. My prediction is that Miami once again will not be up to there prime for a noon game. GT will rush for at least 300 on our weak run defense. We will look inconsistent on offense and Stephen throws at least one pick. Although we will have some success I see us losing this game 34-28. Look I love our D line at times and really think Spence is very good. But we have a serious problem at linebacker. We do not have a good MLB and the others are inconsistent. Until we get a big, dominant DT and a couple of really good, physical linebackers we are not going to be able to compete defensively at a high level. Just my opinion.

CGNC - if you're ever bored ..

This is the one I'm addicted to ..

And of course there's always this one. Just make sure your speakers are up if you slap the monkey fast enough ..

DallasTX Cane

Thru 9 games our top 3 RBs - Berry, Miller & James - have rushed for 1,361 yds and average over 5 yds per carry.

I don't doubt that we've had plenty of problems with the offense this season and I'm sure we could have used the running game better. However, it seems like the numbers are telling us that the running game has been effective.

I think the impression, especially among the fans, of the offense would be very different IF the WRs don't make so many drops earlier in the season and if JH makes better passes in certain situations (and throws it away in others). IMO we've had open WRs but drops, bad passes and penalties have negated many possible good plays. The same can be said of the running game - how many good runs negated by a penalty? Too many.

Is that on the players or on the coaches? Its on both of course. The players need to do the basics much better than we've seen this season, but the ultimate responsibility for the overall performance is on the coaches.

I'm looking forward to seeing us beat GT! Oh wait...I don't think I can catch the game on TV...espn 3 for me i guess.

DallasTX Cane

Thanks for all the sentiments & a THANK YOU from me to all fellow Veterans.

I have a USMC uncle that served 2 combat tours in Vietnam. A grandfather who served in the Navy in WW2 (who passed before I was born). A sister in the Army on her 3rd deployment to Iraq/Afghanistan. And 2 brothers-in-law who have also made multiple deployments to iraq/Afghanistan. I spent 10 years in the Navy myself.

Just make sure your speakers are up if you slap the monkey fast enough ..

If U slap the monkey fast enough, your speakers wont be the only thing that gets up...

Elliot - I would have to disagree. We shut them down last year and see no reason why we can't this year.

They are also starting a new QB. Now if Josh was healthy, I would give them a chance but with Washington now starting, we should be fine. I am not predicting any score but I think we win.

Just make sure your speakers are up if you slap the monkey fast enough ..

That just sounds wrong........ :-)

Seems like New Haven, and the NE in general produces some quality coaches. Two of NH's former coaches are currently in Miami, Whipple, and current Dolphins HC Tony Sparano. Here's a YT video of New Haven Football:

And since I'm on the subject of coaches from the NE, here's a great LA Times article about Chip Kelly. Chip was HC at New Hampshire before becoming OC at Oregon:

DZ, yea I remember, and yea I am ate up with the dumass lol

Damn, Bishop Daniels has some mad hops. Like D Rose

M17 will remain the starter as long as the Canes keep winning. Shannon will not pull the hot hand. The mistakes M17 made are mental and correctable. That INT over the middle was in large part because he stared down his worst receiver who was covered and he threw it late. I will watch this GT game very closely to see if he makes the same mistakes. If he improves, this offense can be good. I don't think this offense can be as explosive with J12 because he is what he is and that is avg. He has playmakers all around him and he was better than Marve and Cannon Smith. But M17 has performed better against better competition this year.

This will be a lesson to J12 and hopefully he will grow up and mature. Hopefully, he will do what is best for the team, knowing that he was given every opportunity to perform and he failed. UM deserves better play out of the QB position and the players are happy that the offense can be explosive again.

If the Canes beat GT and UNC beat Va Tech (which is very possible) Canes and Va Tech will play for the ACC Coastal Div Championship.

windy I agree Morris is the better player right now.
I think you will see Jacory start the first game he is healthy for. If he falters I think we see Morris from here on out.

I have never seen a Cane quarterback benched because he got injured.
Being penalized for being injured is unfair no matter if we like the player or we don't.

Even when Ken Kelly went down Dorsey came in and started three games, Dorsey broke records, and when Kelly mended Dorsey sat back down and Kelly started the bowl game.

You can get benched for poor play, missing practice, disciplinary actions, class room problems, etc. but I haven't seen a player punished for being injured before.

You could be right though, Randy may crack and do what the fans want instead of team policy, he is got to be feeling his pants catching on fire.
