As the season winds down, only a handful of 10 teams remain listed on the Shortlist in order of worthiness for the top two spots as follows:
Auburn, TCU, Boise State, Oregon, LSU, Wisconsin, Stanford, Oklahoma State, Ohio State, and Michigan State.
Two of the three teams I called for to drop from the Shortlist last week defied my predictions, both of them on the road and representing the Big 10 conference:
1) Wisconsin finally breaks through in Ann Arbour against Michigan to all bet sew up a Rose Bowl berth as they win 48-28. Between finally defeating a top ten ranked and the within their grasp BCS bowl game, this season has all the ingredients to pass for a banner year of Badger football despite the long-shot Shortlist odds stacked against Brett Bielema's team as the final weeks are played out in 2010.
2) Ohio State refuses to let their own title dreams die against a determined Iowa squad on the road in Iowa City as they eek out a 20-17 win in ranked teams. Now with only arch-rival Michigan standing in their way the Buckeyes are left to question just how they let a peach shot at the national title slip just out of reach during their brief stay at the top during the halfway point of the season.
Despite overextending my prognostication fortune into one conference too many last week, I expect the attrition of the Shortlist to increase on a percentage basis this week as so few teams left mean each upset spills the apple cart even more by comparison and the suspects to find themselves thrown off near the journey's end read as follows:
LSU, Michigan State and Boise State.
The three states of despair should stretch across half of the timezones in the country as the weekend concludes here on the Shortlist to the Site of the Shanghaied Ship when all is said and done but even barring a lack of eliminations the rankings themselves are likely to be prone to a shaking up of their staid organization regardless.
Who survives and who falls will set the stage for a tenacious final few weeks as the top teams jockey for the inside track to play for it the biggest prize in the game in the only game that really matters in the dawning New Year.

Soup sorry for the VT game i arrived in Ft. Lauderdale only 2 hours before the game with the family.I felt like i was the only one in the stadium wearing my Canespace T-shirt. I will go to many games in 2011 and i hope to meet you and Solar. My seats were just behind the Canes and the horrible Coaching staff...I really enjoyed watching Lamar Miller...He is great!

Hill and the rest of UM's 16 seniors -- including seven from coach Randy Shannon's first recruiting class of 2007 -- will end the regular season Saturday against South Florida having failed to earn a trip to a BCS Bowl game or the Atlantic Coast Conference title game. Had someone told Hill that five years ago, he said, ``I probably would have thought they were slapped stupid.''

According to the team's injury report released Thursday, sophomore Mike James will sit out because of illness. James is third on the team in rushing with 394 yards on 66 carries. He has scored three rushing touchdowns.
Defensive end Marcus Robinson, who has five tackles for loss and 2 ½ sacks this season, had season-ending surgery on his knee and is out for the rest of the season. He was injured against Virginia Tech last weekend.
Also out because of illness: backup middle linebacker Kelvin Cain, who has been sick for about a week, coach Randy Shannon said

By the time the Hurricanes arrive for their final home game of the season Saturday, the cosmetic changes at Sun Life Stadium will be complete.
Their distinctive "U" will have been spray painted at midfield. Large green tarps with that same logo will be blanketing seats in the corners of the upper deck. And their own ring of honor will cover up that of the Dolphins.
But aqua, like always, will be everywhere.
That's how it is for the Hurricanes as one of the handful of college football teams in the nation that play their home games in NFL stadiums — they get the luxury of playing in a state-of-the-art facility

If you ask Hurricanes players what the most disappointing thing about this season has been, you'll pretty much get the same answer – the Virginia game.

Randy speaks like a man who knows his job is NOT in danger. (Which apparently is correct, in spite of what we "fans" want.)
He'll get AT LEAST one more year IMO, and that is win or lose tomorrow. (I've heard many people say his job is on the line vs. USF, but I don't believe tomorrow matters a bit to Donna or Kirby in terms of "one more year."
I would be SHOCKED if anything different were to occur.
I will also be shocked to see any big shakeups on the assistant coaching staff. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if there are NO changes. (Again, there is NO pressure on Randy, so HE will probably not apply any pressure on down the line... )
I believe if we lose any assistants, it will because THEY want to move on, (or get called to move like Bill Young last year.)
My final view is... let's enjoy tomorrow for our Seniors, (hopefully we TOTALLY throttle the Bulls). By the way, I HATE that they have "stolen" our white helmets with a U on the side... those copycat Cane wannabees!
Well, that's my feeling on the day... kind of a Black Friday reality check I guess... LET'S GO CANES!

Miami’s offense gained over 200 yards rushing for the third straight game and the fifth time in the Hurricanes’ last six contests with 262 yards on 42 carries against the Hokies. Lamar Miller ran for a career-high 163 yards and a touchdown on just 15 carries for his second 100-yard rushing game of the year. Damien Berry also had 47 yards on nine carries while Mike James had 30 yards on five attempts.
The Hurricanes’ air attack was yet again led by All-America candidate Leonard Hankerson, who caught six passes for 79 yards and touchdown. His touchdown - a nine-yard pass from Stephen Morris in the first quarter - set a new single-season record for Miami as Hankerson passed Michael Irvin’s record of 11 set back in 1986.
Hankerson also became just the fourth player in school history to record 900 receiving yards in a season against the Hokies. His 958 receiving yards this season currently trails only Eddie Brown (1,114 in 1984) and Andre Johnson (1,092 in 2002) for the highest single-season total in program history.

Orlando Franklin
Franklin is the most experienced Hurricane on the 2010 roster, having played in 49 games and started 38 in his career. This senior has been a mainstay on the ‘Canes offensive line at both the tackle and guard positions. In 2009, he earned All-ACC honorable mention honors after grading out at 95 percent with 51 pancake blocks and 13 lumber jacks.

The USF fans around here that do know football have been telling me they are glad they are facing us on Sr. day because they figure it limit the touches of LM6
At 1st I started to laugh and say a few choice words to them but then I thought about it and they might be right. Berry and Coop could very well get a good chunk of the carries since they are seniors. So I just muttered a few bombs their way, told them just be ready come Saturday and walked away. Someone please convince me LM6 will be the feature RB

Comment on another blog in reference to Harris' dad whining about INT12 not being the starter.
LOL at "Not giving the kid a chance" ARE YOU F***ING KIDDING ME!? Jacory played this whole season plus the last season entirely how is that "NOT a chance!?" He is a very poor Div. 1 football QB. Watch College football everyday Saturday like I do, watch game after game, you will see it is extremely common to see a supperior QB behind center. Better arm, smarter decision, sells the play action better, pump fakes better, scramble better, physically tougher, better leaders etc. Harris is horrendous. "
Those comments are very accurate and sum up the truth about Harris.
It raises THIS question...why on earth have fans been calling Jacory "special" for so long? Seriously, there is absolutely nothing about this kid that is special. Winning in his school? Meh. Standing emotionless in a GT blowout? Meh. Fourth quarter comebacks against crappy teams that were tired? Meh.
I hope Harris is doing his school work because he'll need his degree. No NFL GM in their right mind will even give him a glance. What would ONE hit from Troy Polamalu do to this kid?
But I digress. Harris just isn't a good QB. The hoopla that has surrounded him seems to indicate that The UM fan base is so battered that it will cling to anything that has a ray of hope.
Posted by: Tcoak | November 25, 2010 at 12:46 PM
Much of the recent warranted, criticism of on Jacory Harris has a resounding ring of truth to it. Do yous Canespace Kadets bloody hear it!
However, U'all Cane rowdies bloody fell hook-line and sinker for the freaking HYPE surrounding Harris! No.
Before he set foot on the breathtaking, beautiful Coral Gables campus, Harris was bloody ANOINTED the savior of Miami, F-L-A Hurricane.
For instance, is it J12's fault the bloody lot of Miami rowdies put so much freaking expectations on Harris. Especially U'all in this here Hurricane college sports forum.
Was it the juvenile, Jacory's fault, that the SoFla Hurricane football press corps made him the second coming of the Cali Kool, Kalm QB. I think not.
Yeah, yeah Harris deserves plenty of the blame for Team Shannon's pathetic record in 2010.
And so does the Whipple Factor for putting J12 in " harms way! "
But, bottom line is this, all Hurricane football elements share blame in making Jacory Harris a Miami QB from the distant and distant and distant pass.
Finally, the bloody Cane irony is this. Coach Randy Shannon tied his arse to the Jacory Harris wagon, and this could cost him his title after the 2011 season. Buyout anyone.

Your Hurricanes are a Senior Day - 11 1/2 point chalk. Yeah baby!
Therefore, it's my civic, humane duty to advise U'all Miami " degenerates, " to bloody LAY THE POINTS and watch the Canes COVER the Sin City spread. No not a Turkey Day buffet. LOL

If somehow, someway, in some sick twisted world of fan pain & suffering, USF wins against the Canes ...
I will move from Tampa. I'm not f'ing joking
I'll move down to Sarasota, out to Lakeland, or up to Wesley Chapel
I live 2 minutes away from the "Bulls Heaven" store and the "Bulls Club" bar ... 7 minutes away from the actual USF Campus
I'll also be the biggest fan of getting rid of Randy Shannon the very next day after the loss
There is absolutely NO excuse at all for Miami to lose this game. Zero excuse. I said I'd give Boss Man 5 years and my patience is starting to wear thin now at the end of year 4, mainly b/c of the same damn mistakes that have been occurring .. players not being prepared .. some players still cowering down for the most part when adversity hits .. Boss Man being hypocritical by benching some players and not benching others, for their mistakes
I thought I heard it all when I learned that Duke was a hard place to play - that's when I knew that Boss Man was reaching as far as he could for excuses
But to lose to this USF team? at home? Beyond inexcusable and if anyone doesn't think so, you obviously haven't watched USF this year and what they're working with
Posted by: Six | November 26, 2010 at 11:56 AM
There are times one Randy Shannon is too loyal to a fault. No.
For instance, he just may continue to keep Hurricane assistants on the payroll, and he obviously has this code of loyalty with Miami seniors and junior. Think freshmen and or sophomores deserve to get more playing time in lieu of the Hurricane upperclassmen. No.

Why is it that some of us fans feel that urgency to win and it feels like our backsides are on the line but those that in reality need to dont?

Dude, yous need to get a reality check with the vast majority of your college pigskin touts. That's the " upset special " one. No!
Because ain't no fUc!in way the Broncos lose tonight's game! U dig!
Heck, the Colorado Buffaloes have greater chance of pulling off a miracle victory than Nevada-Reno.
By the way 57'er, Boise St, just happens to be a decisive bloody - 14 1/2 road favorite.
A road game where the Wolf Pack will be playing on Senior Day. A road game in Reno, which will be televised nationally. Motivation for the home squad anyone.

Posted by: Sebastian57 | November 26, 2010 at 12:05 PM
That's because Team Shannon is just another " middle of the road " college football team. That's all!
For instance, this particular 2010 Hurricane squad is miles and miles and miles away from the 2004 and 2005 Miami teams. Imagine that. LOL
Chit, take a combined total of six or seven offense and defensive unit starters from either the 2004 or 2005 Cane teams and replace them with six or seven current Cane starters, and I guarantee you this. Miami, F-L-A enters their final home game of the season with only " one loss in a best case scenario, " or " two setbacks in a worst case scenario. "
The Cane reality is simply this. Too may Hurricane recruits from both the Senior and Junior classes were bloody OVER RATED coming into the program. And the overall record shows this, as well as the bowl record indicating this.
Yeah, yeah it's not only on the Miami players.
But the carousing, lush Barry Switzer once said it's... ALL ABOUT THE THOROUGBREDS. For instance, championships anyone.

I don't care one iota for this " mix signal " situation coming from Shannon. QB controversy anyone.
This Hurricane drama isn't very conductive for the recruiting of future Miami ballers. No.
It would seem Randy is speaking with bloody red InjUn fork tongue. Ugh, ugh. LOL
Perhaps Latwan Anderson knew what he whined about. Too much mix signals from the Cane chief with his Cane players, and way too much of the University powers that be " handcuffing " one Randy Shannon.

Sebastian57 - I'll be over at the Jefferson High game tonight in the 3A Region Semi
They're taking on Pasco - both teams are 11-0, but as you know, Jefferson throws the ball like crazy. Pasco can throw it as well, but, they don't have the 3 WRs that Jefferson has ... not only that, but Q.Williams for Jefferson also has the arm to unload bombs to his WRs, so they score pretty quickly
If Quentin throws one more TD this year, he'll have the Florida state record for career TD passes thrown
Q is at 100 right now, he's already passed Xavier Lee, John Brantley and Tebow in that category
He's only 426 yards away from breaking Tebow's career passing record
Not only that, but, he's 4 TDs away from having the single season TD pass record that Aaron Murray set with 51
Q said he's going to Bethune Cookman
The Robinson at Jesuit game tonight should be good .. but Jesuit has to play better than they did in their last game or else they're going to get their ass kicked. They looked horrible against Tampa Catholic

86 - if Boss Man loses to USF, I'll be calling for his head immediately ... not joking at all. I will lambaste him on the radio and on any kind of electronic media forum there is
Again, it's not personal - it's business. I love the story of the guy, the adversity he's overcome, etc. that's not what this is about. I love the Canes even more than that, they're the #1 priority .. and Boss Man won't exactly be hurting in the financial aspect if he does get cut loose
If he loses to USF, I'll have a chainsaw in one hand a damn Hattori Hanzo samurai sword in the other, with a machete in my teeth - ready to cut him loose

Believe it or not, it's not like Shannon and Marky Mark are on the best of terms.

Im not sure which game im heading to tonight. The playoffs around here are always a must see
BCC has a bye into the 2nd round of the FCS playoffs and will be hosting New Hampshire next week. They had a very good year
You mentioned Xavier Lee, what a waste of an arm that was right there. He was a 386 boy(Seabreeze) but never got his crap together. He did have a very strong arm. Maybe that gimmick azz offense Seabreeze ran cost him any chance of learning how to run a real O

Happy Thanksgiving all, hope you all had a great day.
I have found a season of promise has turned into another disappointment. We played OSU close; obviously they were superior, but we fell apart in a big game. FSU, VT and UVA are all films of how not to play this game. I do not like to point the finger at individuals, and not 1 player or coach is to blame. They all share the blame, and we have all eaten of the devils cake as well.
Coaching does not develop players fully, does not hold people accountable and plays favorites. The head man is a good man, but not without faults. Upper extremity injury....ridiculous language. Tell it. No emotion for the game on that sideline...it looks like he expects to or even enjoys 8-4 7-5...as long as administration is happy. Playing people who make the same mistakes over and over because you like them...foolish.
Penalties we are good at..we lead the nation. You cannot win like this. It is a major sign of undisciplined football. To be the best at it...shameful. Tackling...we are horrible. Too many long runs, too much grabbing, over running. Dropping the ball...you catch with your hands.
Attitude. Just because you have a U on your hat does not mean better, superior, Superman. I get the feeling a lot of people have succumbed to this belief. It takes effort, focus, humility, desire, sacrifice, commitment to win. We have some that do this...but others that do not. They are happy to be along for the ride. Players, coaches and even fans.
If you want to go 8-4, 7-5 for 20 years, and graduate every kid thats fine. Why not graduate every kid and go 10-2, 11-1, 12-0 and win a couple titles? Lombardi said "Winning isn't everything, but wanting to win is the only thing". Do we look like a team that wants to lay it all on the line, each play each game each season from top to bottom? I hate to lose...it happens...you get beat. My charges finished this season with a loss....we all lost together to a team that was better that day. I hate it...but I am going to continue to coach, and work harder with my guys to get ready to win again. Because we want to win....not compete, not just try, not hope....we will be back. I know I can be critical...I try not to direct it at one individual....I feel there are a lot of coaches and players who are happy to wear the U and finish 2nd or 3rd, or take a play off...or two...or just unemotionally shake their head and stare....instead of wanting to die rather than lose....whatever it takes within the means and rules to win...2 ways home...death or victory...Apocalypse Now football. Just my humble opinion...VAC

Thankfully both the Whipple Factor and Randy are relatively professional, and leave animosities at home. No.

Mac, i would be some what surprised if Whipple comes back. He and Randy dont share the same philosophy offensively.
The new commitment to the running game was by force not by choice and I think running the ball 40+ times a game was what Randy envisioned from the get go.
I dont think he wants a 50/50 run-pass offensive. He wants the play calling to be 60-65% run.
Whipple isnt a run first OC and doesnt have the patience for that type of offense.
If the o-line plays even better next year like I hope they would, whoever the qb is probably wont have to throw the ball that much at all.
Baring injury, the o-line regressing or is decimated by injury, LM will be a Heisman candidate next year!
Vault that!

Bama vs Auburn on at 2:30.

ToUt of the weekend from the second coming of the late Dimitrios Georgios Snyodinos. LOL
I don't wanna' the points. I don't needa the points. By golly, I'll take-a the points.
Lay down the sawbuck on the Auburn Tiger and the + 4 points. LOL
Too much of the War Eagle Cam Newton, for Saban's Roll Tide D-unit to handle! No. Because, that's what it will eventually come down to.

Maybe Papa Cam will take some of that coin him and his son took and bet it on his Tigers to win the Iron Bowl then

Voila!
Another p.r. HYPE thing with that Whipple Factor. And baby, I come straight. Because I foolishly fell for the hype.
Yeah, yeah the Whipple Factor had it's moment under the full moon in games against both F.S.U. and GA Tech last season.
However, since those two games in '09, the majority of opposing D-coordinators have found tendencies in the Whipple Factor book. Red Zone offense anyone!
In other words, perhaps Miami's offense has regressed too much. No.
For instance, Team Shannon goes off for 505 yards against Maryland, and still only scores 24 points. And it took a last second T.D. to pull that one out!
By the way, numerous college football teams which tallied 500-525 total yards last week, posted winning scores in the UPPER-30's or MID-40's range. Go bloody figure.

Bloody Orange and Green SOUR GRAPES! Nothing more and nothing less.
Are yous that naive and or gullible to believe major college football " ain't corrupted. "
Well, are yous!!!
Baby, it's just a matter of getting caught red-handed. That's all. Butch's Carolina program, anyone.
Heck, one of the " cesspools " of college pigskin CORRUPTION happens to be in Stinkin' Lincoln, Hinterlands. 4 bloody real.
bUbba 57'er, yous be an intelligent, college educated good ol' boy. So, yous should be able to see the forest for the trees. Or is that the Sequois for the woodlands. LMAO

If I could ever decipher what the resident Nebraska Osborne lovechild on here says, then maybe I'd .... nah, I still wouldn't care even in trying to fake politeness
Didn't the same guy call Jacory the "chosen one" while trying to diminish what Morris was doing in his first 1.5 games?
Eh .. like I said, if I could decipher
Someone get something to the equivalent of the Wind Talkers used in WW2 in here, so we can break the code

I think we were very predictable...Ds could key on our pass tendencies...you got a OC who is pass happy, never looks to TE (though other than JG who looks great in NO there were none)you have a qb who stares at his target as if it was a Sat night stripper, and thinks it is ok to throw into coverage, you have 1 good receiver on the filed, one who cannot catch, and some on the bench....instead of getting a shot....it was a pickfeast for DBs....as far as points....we march up and down like Sherman to Atlanta....but penalties, drops, fumbles, goofs, mistakes, missed fgs....all account for little to show. I would rather win 24-0 with 300 yds of O with half their star players on the sidelines from getting blasted by our blockers and knocked out by our defenders....I could give a damn about leading the nation in total O, passing, rushing....stats are not as important as results....I really track turnovers and ratio, Third down efficiency, yards per play, penalties and yards.. they tell me how well I am executing basic fundemental football.

Sebastian57 - here's some inside news for you about ESPN 1040
They're moving from their location next to Westshore, out near Lar-ghetto
Their corporate line "b/c we want to be closer to our tower and signal"
That's b.s. That means absolutely nothing. It means they probably can't pay the rent in their penthouse suite anymore where they're located now
I might be jumping ship, as well as others. When I told them that, they immediately asked about the possibility of using Skype and if that would help in keeping interest. I highly doubt it man - I have fast speed, but not FIOS fast. I'm not enthused about making the drive out to Largo to do a show
Will be interesting to see what the Sports Blob and Ronnie Lane/Mark Carrier say about it as well. The Blob had been talking about doing her show from her house anyway, hell, it might actually be closer for her when they move the station out to Largo
Going from driving 14 mins down to Westshore to driving possibly 45 minutes to do a show? Nope. 1010 CBS Sports Radio is closer than that and I can get a show on there without having to buy time like the rest of those people do

Six,
If you do move over to 1010 let me know. I havent listened to the Blob in quite awhile, I just couldnt take it anymore
I dont think ive ever heard of anyone wanting to move anything to Lar-Ghetto...I lived there for about a year and I couldnt wait to get out of there

instead of wanting to die rather than lose....whatever it takes within the means and rules to win...2 ways home...death or victory...Apocalypse Now football.

MEA CULPA, MEA CULPA. Seriously!
The macky is just bummed out about Team Shannon and all.
So much expectations, and so little to show for. No.
Maybe that's why The Mack is using that Tampa Cane fan, as well as the 57'er as Pinata's. Metaphorically speaking mind yous.
Because anyone from Tampa using MACHETE and HACKSAW code words, is probably UNCONSCIOUSLY a wee bit pyscho. Think of one who relies too much on the PRIMITIVE BARBARIAN NEANDERTHAL Reptillian brain factor. LMAO
Speaking of Pinata's. I hear they have a whole lotta' good ol'e spicy food in The Pass.
2010 Sun Bowl
Miami, F-L-A Hurricanes ( 8-4 ) vs.
California Golden Bears ( 6-6 )
A real college football telly ratings type of bowl game. LOL Eh Cane-ites.
