And how many wives are gonna look better than Eva Longoria?

BahamaCane

Ungar, Eva is a 8 or 9 on a scale of 1-10. Thats one beautiful woman.

DallasTX Cane

Continuing the concussion theme...

Tre Newton is a RB at UTexas and the son of former Dallas Cowboy Nate Newton. Tre played HS at Southlake Carroll and was one of several future D1 players and stars playing in that much-heralded Miami Northwest vs Southlake Carroll game a few years ago.

Tre and his family announced a couple of days ago that he could no longer play football due to several concussions he has sustained during his career. This is very unfortunate as, by all acocunts, Tre is a fine young man and although not tearing up college football as a RB, had a decent college career going with a real possibility of playing in the league eventually. he and his family decided it was no longer worth the risk.

Regardless of how jacory has played this season, he is a CANE and has been a positive aspect and contributor during the long, slow climb back up the college football mountain. He has provided us many moments of pure joy and, IMO, left it all out on the field for the CANES many times. Maybe he could have worked harder or been more serious off the field. Maybe not. Anyway, point is our knowledge of concussions and the long-term affects of multiple concussions is growing every day. We should all wish for the best for Jacory and his health.

Ungar

There are a couple of pictures out there of her without makeup that make her look not so hot, but I can wait for the makeup to be put on rather than hook up with some other teammate's wife. Unless his teammate was calling it an "assist". You know, his teammate sets him up, and he "scores".

Another view...Football head injuries are right out on the field wether they occur in a game or practice. Many industrial accidents have caused brain damage similar to concussions and many go un detected. An example, before Dr's had the MRI ( invented by Dr Damadian who started Fomar Corp, and produced commercially in 1980) Neurologists tried with visual techniques to determine a person's ability to function normally, I hope JHs doctors use the tools we have now to make certain he is OK
Fran
I suffer from brain damage both from uncontrolled B/P and a fall to the hanger floor working on an aircraft in 1976, there was no MRI then

FROM WWW.HURRICANESPORTS.COM:

Lockdown corner Brandon Harris leads the nation's No.3 pass defense and No. 2 pass efficiency defense. He is not a popular target for opposing quarterbacks. He has blanketed his opposing wide receivers so well that teams have only thrown in his direction 30 times over 10 games (3.0 times per game) and he has only allowed an average of 1.2 completions per game (12 total) in his area this season. Three teams have not been able to complete a pass against his coverage and three have only completed one pass. He has broken up seven pass this season, including three in the last two games.

* Over the last two games, Maryland (30 passes) and Georgia Tech (17 passes) only threw in his direction seven times and completed just one pass. Harris had three pass breakups on the seven passes in his direction.

SOUP

OK....so will anybody be at the Hampton Inn on Friday night?

CHRIS WHELPTON (OGV) WILL BE THERE. THERE ARE ALWAYS SOME CANES FANS THERE OUT ON THE PATIO AFTER 7 PM.

Will anybody be partying after the game?

I WILL NOT, FAMILY BIDNESS WITH THE WIFEY.

Who's going?

SOME PEOPLE.

Where the tailgating taking place at? What time are we starting?

EAST SIDE/NEAR STADIUM, CALL ME FOR LOCATION.

Now that we know Morris is starting ,these are the kind of questions we need to be asking. :-)

U ARE CORRECT SIR!

See, this is where I have a problem with Jacory Harris. Let's say he was facing a Brandon Harris defense. Rather than doing the smart thing and avoid him like these other teams have done, he would take it as a challenge and throw right into his coverage. I have problem with confidence, but a healthy dose of fear is also useful.

Is it Jacory? Does RS always say "We just play our game"?

Ungar

Tough to say. Most of the Shannon and Whipple Era has also been the Jacory era. But I don't recall Marve or Morris doing the "throw deep into double coverage" bit as often.

But since it is leaving Jacory's hands, I but most of the responsibility (and credit when successful) on him.

j.w.

It's probably both. Winston was right when he said the dumpoff is not a bad option, but the playcalling since Morris took over is a heck of a lot different than when Jacory ran things. I'm not talking about the rushing attempts, I mean the actual commitment to running from the beginning of the game and doing it even on 2nd and long.

If I had solar's free time, I would put the entire braintrust of the Canes in the in one of those videos

Is that a bass between your legs or are you just happy to see me?

HEY OH!

NGHA 5:30...

Old Skool

Dang Solar
I'm jealous. You get to go fishing. I get to chow down on a heaping helping of problems with a side order of stress.

solarcane

skool I wish you were out there.

I took the fish finder out to try and get some landmarks where the trees and big structure is on the bottom.

55 degrees, wind blowing about 18 to 20 mph white caps on the water.
I had to anchor to even cast.
Kayak was bobbing around like it was in the ocean.
But catching fish makes it all worth it.

Call me tomorrow and tell me how the project is going.
And what your next moves are going to be.

ROLLCALL......Who is planning on going to the VT game besides Soup, Canechick, Canez1 and Playa?

Soup - I will contact you either tomorrow or Friday for details. But I would think if we wanted to tailgate, and we have to go in together to park close to each other so is that info being being passed along to all? Just need an idea of how big a bottle(s) of rum I need to bring, LOL

SOUP

Raize...are U staying at The Hampton? Or are U driving straight in?

If staying at the Hampton, or not but arriving early, we could meet there at 11:00 and drive in together.

If not then U are on your own?

411

I'll be driving down Sat am. Have friends coming from Jax, then we are driving down together. Meeting others that live in MIA. We will go straight to stadium but have no idea how much prior to kickoff we will get there. Excited about this game, expectations for season are lowered and just happy to watch Canes football. I like our chances against VT, just depends which team shows up. I love the way they are playing with/for SM17. And with our RB's there is always reasons to be positive!
Go Canes!

Chase Parham last week had an interesting article about how the new bats are changing the college game. It has always been an interesting debate on whether the metal bats were juiced too much, causing safety issues and leading to higher scoring games.

The early feedback on the new bat standards is that there is much less “pop” in the bat, making scoring much more difficult in the 2011 season.

The College Baseball Blog recently surveyed a smattering of college coaches around the country regarding use of metal bats. The opinions are drastically different depending if you were a power hitting team in the past or a team that believed in good pitching and defense to win ball games.

SOUP

Jim Schlossnagle of TCU thinks the bats will change the game a ton stating:

“I don’t think there is any question that the new bats are going to have a significant impact on our sport. What remains to be seen is whether that impact will be positive or negative. I, personally, thought that our bats last year were perfect for college baseball.

I believe that college baseball is a different game than professional baseball and that, with last year’s bats, we had it about perfect for the college baseball fan.

Like everything else, I guess we will have to adjust but I’m not sure the college baseball fan is ready for 2-1 ballgames all the time…we’ll see.”

Not staying at the Hampton but it looks likes its between where i am staying and the stadium so it shoudn't be a problem to meet up.

Is that where everyone id tagging up?

canesteeler - keep it up my man

Water is your best friend. Cut out the soda if you drink it. Get more fiber in your diet as well. Eat nuts, cashews, almonds - they help with your hunger cravings. Stay to the outsides in the grocery store, all the stuff in the middle is usually not great for you at all ... you notice that the fruits/vegetables/meat/fish is all on the outsides and all the junk is in the middle. Try to keep processed foods to a minimum. You can use other things to snack on - I use celery sticks instead of chips, to dip into salsa and chomp on those bad boys

Set some goals big dog, hardest part is just starting off - once you get rolling and see/feel some change, you'll be all good and it'll be a lot easier. You'll feel a hell of a lot better as well - seriously. That's not just b.s. You won't get the feeling of dragging through the day

Six

BahamaCane - it happens and there is always a reason ... no, it's not just b/c all men are dogs - even the women who some guys think are hot, doesn't mean that they're taking care of business in other places

And remember, Eva looks like that with probably a hell of a lot of time getting her face done up. If that's what you like, that's cool man

She's not for me though .. and obviously Tony felt the same way, ha

What's that saying? For every hot woman out there, there is also some guy that is sick of her sh*t .... and it most likely goes both ways

DZ8

VA Cane I know you went thru some tough times recently but you are our local "eyes & ears" expert on VA Tech. Any thoughts on the upcoming game? How'd the team you coach do? Still got the streak going?

Yes, at The Hampton Inn at 11 AM. Meet in the lobby.

It's only 20 minutes to the stadium from there so we will be there by 11:30.

The MIAMI-VIRGINIA TECH SERIES

The ‘Canes are 17-10 all-time against Virginia Tech.

The last time Miami played host to Virginia Tech, the ‘Canes won 16-14 in 2008.

The series began in 1953 and the two programs have met every year since 1992.

A ‘CANES WIN OVER THE HOKIES WOULD...

Improve Miami’s home record to 4-1 this season.

Give the Hurricanes six wins in ACC play for the first time since 2005.

Move the ‘Canes to within a game of Virginia Tech for the Coastal Division lead.

The COACHES

Randy Shannon is in his fourth season as Miami’s head coach and owns an overall record of 28-20.

Frank Beamer is in his 30th season overall and 24th at Virginia Tech, where he is 195-94-2 as the Hokies’ head coach.

SOUP

Streak CONTINUES

The University of Miami’s impressive streak of former players scoring touchdowns in the NFL continued in Week 10 when Javarris James scored an early touchdown Sunday afternoon for the Colts against the Bengals.

At least one former ‘Cane has now scored a touchdown every NFL week since Week 15 of the 2002 season - a span of 132 straight weeks.

Ungar

Anyone else concerned about what happens if Morris gets dinged up?

I mean, that is what cost GT the game versus VT, and since we saw Whipple out there once before, the VT guys MUST be thinking it is worth 15 yards to get Morris out of the game.

Beamer and his squad are not bush league and would not pull such a bush league move.

solarcane

I'm more concerned if the bubble bursts and he throws 3 picks in the first half.

or VT runs till they cramp up.

But if neither of those have happened by halftime I think we will be looking good.

solarcane

Watching Spencer Whipple imitate Tyrod Taylor while running the scout team, must be a lot like watching Peter Boyle play Frankenstein's monster.

Ungar

It could be worse.
HOW?!?
It could be raining.

Ungar

BEER, it doesn't have to be bush league, look at the GT QB, and look at Harris versus UVA.

I mean, the UVA guy KNEW the ball was gone, and drove Harris into the ground. No penalty called, but it had an impact on the game.

T could do the same, risking a flag that might not come. Big gain for minimal risk.

Or... I could have just tossed that out there to get some discussion started because the blog looked as dead as Boyle's character. 8-)

"I'm from Miami and I was undecided but I remember during my official visit, I ran into Reggie Wayne. He asked me, 'Do I want to be good or do I want to be great?' And I told him I wanted to be great," said Beason, now a star with the Panthers and one of 11 former Hurricanes named to the 2010 Pro Bowl. "That conversation kind of stuck with me, and I chose Miami right then and there just because of the intuition, the gut-feeling I had."

WOW! Now THAT is what we need to see more of. It just seems like these guys take plays off, games off, weeks off, when they should feel the pull of competing with the best in the NFL, not just treading water in the ACC.

CGNC

Six - celery sticks in Salsa - genius! I love salsa - just want to stay away from the chips. I will make an spinach, cheese omelette with salsa on top sometimes

Ungar, I watched the Auburn Georgia game recently and when Georgia felt that Fairley (or whatever his name is) took a shot at their QB next play they went after him. Why didn't we do that?

Ungar

Well, since there was an INT on the play, they had to wait for the next time out, and by then we were down 7. Whipple was sent out there, and there was no room for error or for going after the guy.

Still, it would have been nice to see the guy get "double teamed" on a few running plays going the other way.
