"Today Golden added Cleveland Browns WR coach George McDonald as WR coach to his UM staff. And while encouraging and exciting it was not the big announcement that he had promised last week that all Miami fans were waiting for."

I don't know about ALL Miami fans, but quite a few are.

BTW, if the football titles are listed on the logo, shouldn't the basketball and baseball titles be listed too? I mean baseball titles?

Terrell Chestnut decommits from Pitt & Considering Miami

It wasn't an easy decision. In fact, it took some deep soul searching for Terrell Chestnut to decommit from Pittsburgh and begin the recruiting process again. The talented 5-10 Pottsgrove defensive back is one of the best all-around players in Pennsylvania, and one of Tom Lemming's Top 25 cornerbacks.
Projected to play defensive back at Pitt, Chesnut will visit new Miami coach Al Golden on January 28, but before that, he will visit Villanova this weekend, followed by West Virginia the weekend of January 21 and then Miami. He's also hoping to arrange something with Boston College.

"Coach Golden did give me a scholarship offer at Temple, but they told me that they really didn't think that they had a shot at signing me when I visited Temple," Chesnut said. "I liked Temple, it was a program on the rise and Coach Golden was doing some good things there. I'll definitely think about Miami. But for now, I'm taking the process slow and I'll probably wait to commit on signing day."

Hey guys need help. Lately i've been reading how coach shannon burned alot of his bridges in the miami/dade area . Is it true ?The reason being looking at the BCS SHIP GAME alot of players where from the miami dade area. I just cant help but wonder why we didnt recruit some of those guys . Maybe that another blog to start just looking for info / examples me personally . I thought he was a good recuiter .

macjones

For U'all bytching, moaning and whining Cane rUffians.

PERHAPS, the bloody reason why Randy Shannon and his staff couldn't recruit some of those SoFla prep players, is because they simply DIDN'T QUALIFY ACADEMICALLY! dUh.

And, it's simply foolish to believe Miami has the market cornered on ENTIRE SoFal Tri-county areas.

For, the Hurricanes are always going to miss out on some very good H.S. players. Be it past, now or future. dUh.

EVEN COACH Golden and his Miami staff will probably lose some decent recruits! Capice. But not for lack of trying.

954cane

auburn has 3 players on their roster that were broward county super 11. one was broward player of the year. none of the 3 were even offered a scholly by shannon.
k from st. thomas
dt from dillard
lb from deerfield

are you gonna tell me the k from st thomas didnt qualify academically

954cane

its understood that you are not going to sign every great player from 305/954 but you at least have to try

THE MAN

Seriously, saying UM has "tough" entrance requirements as a reason why they weren't getting players is just an EXCUSE! Everyone needs to accept that Shannon wasn't as good a recruiter as we all thought he was. I mean read what all the coaches are saying now. That is proof enough. Hopefully Golden will actually show a personality and form relationships with S. Florida coaches instead of just one school. Look how that turned out. Set this program back 3-4 years...

DZ8

Miami would need to have 100 scholarships a year, plus lower admision standards, to make sure we get every recruit that pans out from south Florida.

It is what it is. We can't get them all. Don't get me wrong, some of them were no-brainers and/or dying to get into Miami and we ignored them.

Obvious flaws in our hopefully previous system.

954cane

mike blanc from deerfield beach was never recruited by us. auburn, arizona state, michigan state, and rutgers
WOW good one coker, and shannon for that matter
however that year we signed studs, chaz washington and josh holmes

dwayne bowe had his offer pulled by us in 03. he wanted to go to the U badly (well documented. Florida, FSU, and LSU (where he signed) didnt pull scholly
that year we chose darnell jenkins

josh bynes was broward county defensive player of the year, recruited by Auburn Arizona State Iowa Louisville Notre Dame South Carolina UCLA
was not recruited by the U, now guess howmany linebackers we signed that year, a big fat fking ZERO

954cane

josh bynes had grades to get into ND, was the broward county player of the year and didnt even get a scholly offer. WHY??????? He is the current captian and leading tackler of the nat champ Auburn Tigers

360Cane

Academics is an excuse. The papers going into administration will have student-athlete written in a corner. Sometimes the sport they play is written at the top of the app.

From what I hearing, Shannon was lazy. And if this is the case then it explains why he did not go after kids. Everyone deserves a chance and if Randy REALLY wanted them here, he would have benn blowing Shalala's phone up to at least interview the kid. And if that kid really sold himself, Shalala would probably let him in.

We are not robots people. We are human beings. And it's those relationships you build that get you through life. Who ya know not what ya know.

360Cane

And I am sure Shalala knows how tough it is to study play books and school books. Football players should honestly get credits for playing to trim the school work load. I don't think the normal college student will ever understand how much work is truly involved to be a college football player.

You gave me the free ride to come here. Now pay me cause I'm too busy to work since I have all these classes to study for, weights to lift, meetings to go to, and playbooks to study. Ya dig?

CaneRock

What difference does it make if Miami noticed those kids or not. Those kids were better off with the decisions that they made.

New name for OC

Looks as if we were right to speculate that Arizona Cardinals WR coach John McNulty -- a former Al Golden teammate at Penn State -- is no longer the front-runner for Miami's offensive coordinator position. After the school named a new WR coach on Tuesday, a Hurricanes spokesman said that Golden would hold off on an announcement on his OC, leading everyone to guess that his target is with a team still alive in the NFL playoffs.

The likely culprit? Seattle Seahawks QB coach Jedd Fisch, who was Minnesota's offensive coordinator in 2009. Fisch is a Florida alum who began his career as a grad assistant under Steve Spurrier, but save for his stint with the Gophers he's a lifelong NFL assistant. Fisch presumably comes recommended by Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, whose son, Brennan, is Miami's new TE coach/recruiting coordinator. And after watching what Matt Hasselbeck did to the New Orleans Saints last weekend, is it a wonder that Golden might want to sign up Hasselbeck's position coach?

It just goes to show you that you could be in the wrong occupation and be miserable ... causing more problems than helping. Understanding how to communicate with and motivate people is a prerequisite in coaching.

AG is a natural fit because he gets excited in developing people and then getting the win. I would bet he is more motivated to see the player succeed than to see the win. We should be excited because the players are very lucky to be in the inside of the U family.

954,
Bluestein thinks losing Teddy will set us back years. He says Rudduck and Brissett are no comparison, I disagree. These spread guys, for the most part, are never going to make good pro QB's, of course we are talking pro here, we're talking college, unless we had a good QB coach, Bridgewater would be learning from scratch on how to be a pro-style QB and the same with Brissett. I would think we would want a kid that's been a pro-style offense, in High School, to come in and be somewhat ready to play right away. I don't think that would happen with Bridgewater or Brissett, just because of the systems their in.
O'leary and most of the so called big time players in the state, are loving them some FSU and I don't know what he's waiting on. It's no secret where he's going.

Because there's a reason WHY Hocutt, among others in the admissions office, finally decided to go with the N.C.A.A. academic standards.

And, also, someone said previously from here on out, those potential recruits whom are on the Orange and Green borderline, academically speaking, would meet with a committee of University suits, which A.D. Hocutt is a member of said committee.

Wartown cane

The only guy that could have made a case to stay was stout but as far as I'm concerned golden can start from scratch , his guys his philosophy. The entire staff will now all b on the same page , all will b loyal to Golden no different agendas

Zaro

herbieibis,

I thought this the other day. I believe with Coach Golden we will have stability with his group of coaches. Now Miami needs a Offensive Coordinator, O-Line coach, (This will be key as Miami's best group of young men IMO..) and with recruiting ending a couple weeks later.... We need that help.

funny about Coach Stout though...why would he leave the best situation Henderson,Liner,Horn,Washington,Jones and a host of others..

However, Miami's O-line play was the best since the 2003 season. Relatively speaking.

And if it wasn't for Stoutland's Cane line play this season. Miami would absolUtely be staring at a losing season in 2010. AbsolUtely gUarantee it!

CaneRock

So Herbieibis, how many of our "Pro-Style" QBs made good "good pro QBs"? Besides Kelly and Kosar like 15 years ago, none of our other QBs have set the world on fire. macjones

U'all CaneSpace rough necks of the Cane horde need to bloody well give Stoutland some slack.

Because there's a reason why Coach Golden wanted him part of his new Miami staff!

And FWIW. I don't have no issues with Stoutland seeking a career move.

pbcfrcane13

No Auburn one that game because of one player. Cam Newton. Auburn is only good because on one playe Cam Newton. There is a reason nobody is even thinking about them having a chance to repet. There is a reason why Gene couldn't coach in ISU or his first year in Auburn. IMO of course

herbieibis,
I agree with you about bridgewater. He is jacory with more ip on the ball.
if it were me I would recruit 2 pro-style qb's every year regardless of what the star system says. your bound to find yourself a qb with those odds

Ungar

CaneRock, far be it for me to defend Vinnie Testaverde, the colorblind fool that cost us the 1985 and 1986 titles, but he DID have a good career in the NFL when he wasn't on pathetic teams. I mean, the Bucs were horrible with Steve Young, too, so you can't blame him for that, and his stats when on a good team were decent.

For example, 1998 29 TDs to 7 INTs.

But I still disliked how he snuck in as a backup to Kosar and then cost him the job. i am sure he didn't do it on purpose, but it still stank to high heaven.

Career
214 games started
90-123-1 Starter record
3787 of 6701 for a 56.5 completion percentage
46233 yards, 275 TDs, and 267 ints.

Not Marino, but better than Henne and a bunch of other pretenders out there.

Heck, I would rather have the 1998 Vinnie than the 2010 Henne.

macjones

Funny, but Oregon recruited Jacory Harris HARD back in 08'. I do believe Jacory also took a trip out to rustic Eugene, Oregon. No.

And just IMAGINE, Jacory MAY have been the starting QB for the quacky ducks this past Monday night.

Because the current Oregon offensive staff, as well as the Duck's A.D. obviously saw Top 10 signal calling potential in Numero 12.

pbcfrcane13

They saw a top 10 signal caller who can only run the spread.

pbcfrcane13

This is way i think Bridgewater was smart. He saw how much struggles Jacory had in a pro stlye Off when teams finally had tape on him.

Texascane

Guess who this is...

Ht: 6-foot-4
Wt: 200 lbs
Forty: 4.64 secs
Bench max: 245 pounds
Squat max: 500 pounds
Vertical: 34 inches
GPA: 4.28
ACT: 27
Class: 2006 (High School)

His senior year he threw 19 TD's and 15 Int's on a team that was ranked 2nd in the State (Preseason) and didn't even make the playoffs...

Sam Bradford

Nobody even offered him until Leach at TT.OU then offered as a "Legacy"...

Leach says what he saw in Sam Bradford was size, arm strength, quick release, that GPA and toughness. The prototypical "Pro Style" QB.

Oklahoma has four QB's built the same way...Blake Bell, Landry Jones, Allen Drew and Ben Sherrard...all over 6'4"...all pro style passers and Jones will be a Heisman favorite in 2011. Then Bell.

You want good QB play, get a pro style QB to start with..."players not plays"...

Is Florida's Hiring Of Will Muschamp The Best So Far? We Rank The Newly Hired BCS Coaches

By Spencer Hall - Contributor

The BCS schools' coaching hirings are ranked to this point, and are all far more dangerous than you would expect (especially you, Florida, and your risky Will Muschamp hiring).

Dec 13, 2010 - College Football Power Rankings this week covers the top five hirings and firings in the college football season thus far. These cover only BCS institutions, and they themselves are rank guesswork.

2. Miami. Al Golden may be the steal of the hiring season, but let's say a word for Randy Shannon: sadness. That is not a commentary on Miami firing a man who had dedicated much of his professional life to his alma mater, because that is their right as his employer and it's not like Miami skimped on the chances for Shannon. Miami played morose, spotty football underneath Shannon and gave him every chance to pick a competent offensive coordinator and Shannon, loyal as he was, failed on both counts with a .500ish record in the ACC and zero consistency.

Change comes in the form of Al Golden, Temple coach who is really, really excited about this opportunity to flee Temple, a place where he somehow managed to take Temple to a bowl game despite having no facilities, no recruiting base, no support, and wild dogs roaming their practice fields.* He is a superb recruiter going into one of the nation's richest talent beds, and unlike Randy Shannon elicits a physical, consistent, and no-frills brand of football out of his talent. Kudos all around to Miami, who must remember to keep the dude out of the Pixie Stix prior to the game. http://www.sbnation.com/ncaa-football/2010/12/13/
**************************

THE STEAL OF THE MAJOR COLLEGE PIGSKIN HIRING SEASON!! Get outta' here. lol

Also, notice how Mr. Spencer took a RELEVANT shot at BOTH of Miami's past O-coordinator's under Randy. Say it ain't so. LOL

macjones

You want good QB play, get a pro style QB to start with..."players not plays"...

Posted by: Texascane | January 12, 2011 at 01:57 PM

That's WHY Miam's former O-coordinator FAILED TERRIBLY at tweaking the offense to suit his QB's overall strengths. For instance, he had two seasons and Spring ball to do this.

And as one Cane fan mentioned above, it was only a matter of time before opposing D-coordinators read the Book on Shannon's last O coordinator, as well as having scouted Miami's starting QB's WEAKNESSES in said offense. 2009 Virginia Tech and 2010 F.S.U. and Notre Dame games to name a few.

Guarantee Coach Goldens' new offensive coordinator will implement an offense to Miami's current QB's and future signal callers!

macjones

This is way i think Bridgewater was smart. He saw how much struggles Jacory had in a pro stlye Off when teams finally had tape on him.

Posted by: pbcfrcane13 | January 12, 2011 at 01:55 PM

jUst MAYBE, that's one reason, among others, WHY Harris hit the proverbial QB ceiling and never EVOLVED as a signal caller.

Thank Allah, that Golden's new O-coordinator will incorperate a offensive aroung the current Hurricane QB's, as well as future quarterbacks.

The only possible way Golden and Hocutt sale Ruel on The U, is for Shalala and the rest of the powers that be in Coral Gables, offering Ruel a bloody BLANK CHECK, which is comparable-sp. to what O-line coaches are paid by Top 10 B.C.S. programs, i.e. Roll Tide, Oregon, Auburn, Wisconsin, Ohio St., to name a few.

Golden cuts ties with Davis

“He lied to me,” Davis said. “I don’t know what’s up with the coach. He was trying to be extra tough on the phone for no reason. He kind of had an attitude with me and my parents. That didn’t go well. My mom is mad, my dad is mad. We have always been all about Miami our whole lives. It seems like he wants nothing to do with Randy Shannon’s players. He wants to bring in who he wants to bring in. He said it’s in my best interest not to go there and basically it wouldn’t matter how good I was that I wouldn’t get to play. That kind of hurts, but you move on with life and you hope the next decision is a good decision.”

Huh??? what the hell is goin' on?
