Solar somehow I knew the Yetti was a Cane! LOL Well the snow was beautiful but then that freezing rain on top of it - it is like walking on white glass in my yard - I couldn't get my car back up the driveway to park it in the garage so it stayed outside. I didn't have an ice scraper so I improvised and used a spatula. And yes, my relocation to Jupiter Farms cannot come soon enough :-D

The cause is a long term and deep rooted alienation from patriarchal connection. Its a disastrous self image created by a pac mentality of their peers.

On top of not knowing who they are.. they face an economic future where they are going to need to carry two or three jobs. This is not good because the American economic structure is becoming more and more controlled by world forces. The world is a socialistic structure.

The kids are used to a life style that is mobile. Their parents go in and out of relationships like changing clothes. This creates a core in the young person that is volatile.

AlpharettaCane

Soup, while agreeing with most if not all of your statements, I was thinking back on a great night out with a co-worker about 15 years ago.

We went to a fight night, a night of what, 5-6 boxing matches, at the local arena. It was great - electric atmosphere, passionate, everyone into it, cigar smoke, sweat....

Not saying that video was like professionals (or amateurs) in a well-defined event, just sayin' that there was an appeal to the sheer brutality of it all.

Not sure who's at fault: society, 24/7 violence on TV, rap lyrics, no parental guidance, Larry Coker.......JK!

Ucane

WELL SAID...Soup-well said!!!

SOUP

BTW...regarding the fight video, I watched about 1 minute and shut it down. I should have removed it but didn't. That was a mistake.

Here is a SAD FACT about our society in 2010:

For decades in FL the most common crime committed by juvenile females was retail theft (shoplifting).

That was until 2008 when Assault and Battery replaced it as #1 among female adolescents.

It isn't funny ha-ha, it isn't a spectator sport, it simply isn't right. That people enjoy watching others brutalize each other and destroy their self esteem is immature, disgusting and inhumane.

Female junvenile crime in FL has increased 67% over the last 5 years. The girls have finally gone wild, and not in a good way.

The anger, hositilty and lack of respect they feel for themselves and each other much less society in general among adolescents has reached explosive, epidemic proportions.

Expect more shootings, more tragedies and more loss of life. Young lives wasted a way before they ever had a chance to "get it"...some never will.

I work with these kids and the programs that try to help them and their families everyday all across FL.

When I saw the video, I wasn't laughing.

I stopped it because I was sad.

Blake Ayles eyes transfer to Miami

By Pedro Moura
Special to ESPNLosAngeles.com

LOS ANGELES -- University of Southern California tight end Blake Ayles has informed teammates of his intention to transfer, sources told ESPNLosAngeles.com Wednesday.

Ayles hasn't said anything publicly, however, and Trojans coach Lane Kiffin said he heard that Ayles was "contemplating some things" but was not aware of any finalized decision.

"That's all I know," Kiffin said. "I don't know that anything's happened."

Ayles, a junior, is able to freely transfer to any school of his choosing outside of the Pac-10 conference because of NCAA sanctions issued to USC last June. Six players took advantage of that aspect of the sanctions last summer, including defensive end Malik Jackson, who transferred to Tennessee, and fullback D.J. Shoemate, who picked UConn.

A possible destination for Ayles, sources say, is Miami. Former USC tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator Brennan Carroll was recently named to the same post with the Hurricanes, and Carroll was one of Ayles' primary recruiters out of Orange (Ca.) Lutheran High.

Miami Hurricanes go from 'Quarterback U' to 'QB who? as new coaches scramble to recruit

CORAL GABLES — When Gino Torretta was being recruited by the Miami Hurricanes as a high school senior, he got a strange piece of advice.

"Gary Stevens told me not to come to Miami," said Torretta, referring to UM's former offensive coordinator.

With Steve Walsh and Craig Erickson already on the roster, Stevens warned Torretta that it might be years before he got a chance to play. Better, Stevens said, for Torretta to accept a scholarship elsewhere and avoid the logjam at Miami.

"Things turned out differently," said Torretta, who would lead UM to the 1991 national championship before winning the Heisman Trophy the following season.

Torretta's success furthered UM's reputation as Quarterback U.

But much has changed at Miami. In recent years, the nation's top high school quarterbacks have avoided UM like a 250-pound linebacker.

It's not any different this year. With a little less than three weeks left before national signing day (Feb. 2), the Hurricanes don't have a single oral commitment from a quarterback.

And it's not like UM is loaded at the position. Stephen Morris, Jacory Harris and Spencer Whipple are the only scholarship quarterbacks on the roster. Harris and Whipple will be seniors next season; Morris will be a sophomore.

"I'm scared to death as I go to sleep every night that we just don't have the depth at quarterback that you need to get through a season," UM coach Al Golden said last week. "That's something obviously that we're trying to fix in the recruiting process right now."

The Hurricanes weren't supposed to be in this spot. Miami Northwestern's Teddy Bridgewater - ranked by Scout.com as the nation's third-best quarterback prospect - was committed to UM until coach Randy Shannon was fired on Nov. 27. Bridgewater de-committed and will play at Louisville.

Shannon promised Bridgewater that he would not sign any other quarterbacks. When Shannon was dismissed and Bridgewater changed his mind, it left Golden scrambling.

Nearly all of the nation's top quarterbacks are already committed. Among the top 50 quarterbacks according to Scout.com's rankings, only three have not announced where they will sign.

So what's happened to the lure of Quarterback U?

"It's too long ago," veteran recruiting analyst Tom Lemming said. "There's normally a five-year window, from about the age of 12 to 17, where these kids remember everything about a school. The guys they're recruiting now were born in the '90s. They don't remember a Bernie Kosar or a Jim Kelly. They remember Robert Marve."

Marve was a record-setting quarterback at Tampa Plant High, whose short tenure at UM was marked by off-the-field problems. He transferred to Purdue after the 2008 season.

Marve is just one of a long line of quarterbacks who have not panned out at Miami for a variety of reasons.

Four highly-regarded high school quarterbacks - Bridgewater, Nick Fanuzzi, Pat Devlin and Derek Shaw - never even made it to UM after backing out of oral commitments in recent years. Kyle Wright, regarded as the nation's top recruit in 2003, was a collegiate bust. Others like Kirby Freeman, Taylor Cook and Cannon Smith struggled before transferring.

A UM quarterback has not been taken in the NFL draft since Ken Dorsey was selected in the seventh round by San Francisco in 2003.

"I don't think the position has lost any of its luster," Torretta said. "It's a matter of finding guys who want to compete."

Whether Golden can do that in this recruiting class is an open question. Two quarterbacks - Steve Weatherford of Land O'Lakes and Hargrave (Va.) Military Academy's Marcus McDade - visited UM last weekend, but neither has been offered a scholarship. Weatherford, the brother of former FSU quarterback Drew Weatherford, is ranked 128th by Scout.com at his position while McDade is being seriously pursued primarily by lower-level FBS schools.

Golden is also chasing Fort Lauderdale-St. Thomas Aquinas' Jacob Ruduck, who is committed to Iowa, and Dwyer's Jacoby Brissett, a top talent ignored by UM's previous staff.

"Whether they can turn Jake away from Iowa or make up a ton of ground on Jacoby remains to be seen," ESPN recruiting analyst Jaime Newberg said. "But if they can get one or both of those guys, that would be a humongous coup because for whatever rhyme or reason, Miami hasn't had any success recruiting quarterbacks over the last few seasons."

Also working against Miami is the lack of an offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach in place. Golden said last week a hire was to be announced by Tuesday, but that's been pushed back to, at least, later this week.

"Until there's a quarterback coach there, they're not going to get anybody," Lemming said. 'Kids want to know who they're going to be working with the next four years."

In the meantime, UM's new staff will make the best of a tough situation.

"We still can get guys that we think are great quarterbacks," said Brennan Carroll, UM's national recruiting coordinator.

Kids come, kids go! I happen to know for a fact that UM is hosting one of the top place kickers in the country who is already committed to a major D-1 school. If UM offers a schollie, the kid is going to accept. He has to stay under the radar in case UM doesn't offer.

My point is this, he's not on any list of UM prospects, and he will likely start as a true freshman replacement to Matt Bosher. We don't know 1/2 of what is REALLY going on behind the scenes unless we know the person behind the scene!

We won't REALLY know the state of the 2011 class until Feb 3!

Miami Herald

UM O-line coach Jeff Stoutland resigns, heads to Alabama
.

The University of Miami introduced Jeff Stoutland as its interim head coach in the Edgerrin James Room at the Hecht Athletic Center in Coral Gables, Florida on November 30, 2010.
AL DIAZ / STAFF PHOTO

BY SUSAN MILLER DEGNAN
sdegnan@MiamiHerald.com
University of Miami assistant Jeff Stoutland, who served as the Hurricanes' interim head coach against Notre Dame for the Sun Bowl, said he was blessed to be retained by Al Golden as UM's offensive line coach.

Now, Stoutland is leaving for the Southeastern Conference.

Stoutland, well-loved by his Hurricanes, has resigned from UM and will join Nick Saban's staff as the new Alabama offensive line coach, according to a UM source familiar with the situation.

Alabama is not expected to announce the hiring for at least a day.

Stoutland's UM departure comes on the heels of Joe Pendry, 63, reportedly stepping down as the Crimson Tide's offensive line coach.

Stoutland served four years at UM. His college coaching career dates to 1986, including seven seasons as the offensive line coach at Michigan State -- three under former MSU head coach Bobby Williams, now an assistant at Alabama. Saban was the head coach at MSU before Williams took over there.

Stoutland, 48, said numerous times how thankful he was to be at UM, and how he was grateful he didn't have to uproot his wife and two children for another coaching stint. But money likely came into play. Saban's contract was worth $4.2 million in 2010. Pendry, who also served as the assistant head coach, made $425,000 in 2010 and was due for a raise to $450,000 next season.

UM, which finished 7-6 this past season, is a private school with undisclosed salaries and has historically not been generous with assistants. The No. 10 Tide finished 10-3 this season.

The only remaining assistant coach from Randy Shannon's regime: linebackers coach Micheal Barrow. Former UM wide receivers coach Aubrey Hill also recently left for an SEC school -- Florida -- after originally being retained by Golden.

UM still needs to hire an offensive coordinator.

Stoutland leaves one of the nation's rising offensive lines, and certainly UM's strongest position group -- along with running backs -- going into the 2011 season. Soon-to-be-sophomore tackle Seantrel Henderson, the nation's top recruit in 2010, was a first-team freshman All-American and is expected to fill Orlando Franklin's spot on the left side. Brandon Washington was a first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference guard. Other talented young players, such as center/guard Brandon Linder, are waiting in the wings.

Miami Herald sportswriter Manny Navarro contributed to this report.

When Davis made his statement he may have been angry and emotional at that moment about being rejected.
He is a young guy with dreams of playing at his favorite school, he had to be upset.

I think you have to hear both sides of the story before you can judge how severe Golden was to the guy.

DZ8

I've heard nothing but good things about JD which is why this is surprising. One of the schools he's looking at now is Vanderbilt which is no slouch academicaly.

It's a position of need.
He has family ties to the program.
Golden knows we need cornerbacks.

Equals, IMO, there HAS to be something behind the scenes we don't know about yet.

(And I doubt he was trying to be rude. Probably just direct and when you are direct and telling someone what they don't want to hear. That can come across as rude.)

ColoradoCane

how many stars did Davis have, anyone got video on him? I wonder if he was more FIU material than UM material.

I believe he was 3 star Ungar but not 100% on that. Thats what rivals is showing him at. I haven't seen video of him but apparently is blazing quick.

Ungar

I would be stunned if Golden did that. After call, coming from Temple, he likely NEVER had to reject a kid, so being so evil about it would be stunning to me.

Let his big brother get in touch with some folks, let's see what he can dredge up.

I’m excited to have two guys who are experienced at the quarterback position. This part about depth at *cornerback* has been misquoted by others who reported on the Al Golden press conference. Easy to understand as corner and quarter sound similar and he was just talking about QBs. But he says he was *excited* about two guys with experience at QB so I think this is accurate.

Now with Al Golden saying that he knows he needs more depth at cornerback, saying he wants Miami to return to it’s roots, and impressing just about everybody who has had a chance to meet him and is doing very well, by all accounts, in this transition. What makes more sense?

That Al Golden insulted a top flight cornerback recruit with deep, family ties to The U? Too short, not a Miami guy etc…

Or that there is something else there that hasn’t been revealed yet?

Six

I'd rather have a coach that tells a kid straight up that he's not what they're looking for than a coach that screws around and wastes a kid's time or roster spot

Congrats to Colin McCarthy, who joins Leonard Hankerson and Allen Bailey as invitees to the 2011 Under Armour Senior Bowl.

It is a business, not business as usual in Coral Gables! I have faith in AG but I also feel for the kid.

We can't take every legacy.

Can't worry about one kid, even though he should of given him his walking papers 2 or 3 weeks ago. It's no different than whats been happening to us the last couple of years with these kids verballing to us & then changing their minds at the last minute. We got bigger fish to catch and he should of made the grade last year & we wouldn't be talking about this now.

BTW, if the football titles are listed on the logo, shouldn't the baseball titles be listed too?
