Got Strength?
The University of Miami does.
New UM basketball head coach Jim Larranaga announced that Jim Krumpos has joined the Hurricanes men’s basketball staff as the strength and conditioning coach,
“I’m very pleased and excited to have Jim Krumpos join our staff,” said Larranaga. “He is an outstanding strength and conditioning coach. He is also a competitive power weightlifter, and I know he will relate well to our players because they will see in him what can be done if you devote enough time and energy to becoming strong and in great shape.”
Krumpos previously served as the associate director of performance enhancement for the University of Arizona from 2008-2011. He was the head strength and conditioning coach for the men’s basketball, baseball, men’s and women’s golf, women’s volleyball and women’s soccer teams.
Krumpos designed and implemented workouts that focused not only on strength but on speed, agility, explosiveness, balance and conditioning. He earned his excellent reputation from producing sport-specific programs that included technique instruction, testing and evaluating and effectively rehabilitating injured student-athletes in conjunction with the sports medicine staff.
Prior to his work at Arizona, Krumpos was the director of the strength and conditioning program at college baseball powerhouse Cal State Fullerton in 2007-08 where he designed and implemented the year-round strength and conditioning programs for all 13 NCAA sports.
Krumpos also spent four years as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at UNC Charlotte from 2003-07, working with the women’s basketball, baseball, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball and men’s and women’s tennis teams.
Over his career, he has also worked with athletes in all levels of professional sports – including the NBA, NFL, MLB, arena football and minor league baseball, in addition to Olympic medalists.

Nice article giving props to a man that is key to turning the basketball program around
Now `Cane fans will see whether Big Reg is a legit 32-36 minute effective big man that can take the next step or just a guy who can go 25-28 minutes
Dont miss a game this year(tv or BUC) because if you do you will be missing some serious nasty dunks by these guys

Wurd on da skreet...is that the new UM football coaches are totally FREAKED about #26's talent, size and ability.
And when I say totally, I mean like TOTALLY!

57...Big Reg is going to DOMINATE this year under new coaching and conditioning.
I am being told that the offense will run through and around him, not past him like last year.
Vault that!

Supposedly Brandon Washington is headed to the hospital. Anyone know if it's for him or family or what?
Posted by: OhioCane | May 20, 2011 at 11:36 PM
Most teams would have to double him on the post which would open up the 3 game alot more
On the run with the way Coach L does his thing, the `Canes will be one of the most explosive teams on the break in the nation.....yep the nation

Posted by: OhioCane | May 20, 2011 at 11:37 PM
OC,
#72 was NOT involved in the accident. According to what I was told is that his brother or maybe some other family friends(im going off a quick voice mail)were involved in a head on hit and run accident and was taken to a hospital. Everyone seems to be ok

1. To not interview Mike Leach because he makes some suits uncomfortable because he runs his mouth is BS.
2. Plus, if you're making that claim in regards to him, then the onus of the burden of proof is on you to bring to bear to support your POV, not on me to defend him from your claims.
Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | May 20, 2011 at 10:35 PM
1. Which is why MOST UM alumni are glad that some guy named "Orange And Green In The Vein" is not running UM (the academic institution) or the UM Athletic Department.
2. If I have to prove to U that Leach is a loose cannon then you are a hopeless. For starters, let's take a look at his nickname: "The Pirate".
OK, so how did he get that nick and what image does that conjure up for you? An eye patch and some rum? Jack Sparrow maybe? How's that working for you as a college football head coach?
Al Golden is the Anti-Leach which is why you can't stand him and your hatred runs so deep for a man who hasn't even coached a game yet at UM. U hate conformity and you relish in your rage and rebellion against the machine.
Good luck with that,

Mike Leach interviewed Al Golden.
As coach, Leach is done for 2011.
As Media personality, he's learning.
As HC applicant/interviewee at UofMD, he was favorite, yet never even got return call that he would not be hired.

So results don't matter on the field for coaching candidates if you are interested in a historical topic now in the ACC? LMAO! How's the Turtle's football fan-base (do they even qualify as having one at this point in your opinion? Yeah, the don't in mine either) feeling about that new hire on the whole so far? They hired a guy who sent his team to a BCS game after all to replace the most successful coach in that program's storied past who had an excellent offensive coaching background and was an alumni to boot after all, they should be ecstatic with the new guy replacing him right? I mean they even lucked out with the old AD's handpicked, never been a head-coach, replacement getting hired away too, it should be smooth sailing in College Park when you factor that in to the equation don't you think?
I'm just hoping the two ACC schools don't end up getting opposite results from what happened the last time these two new ACC coaching rivals squared at their former institutions last year. Maybe Leach should write a book to hand out on interviews instead of just shooting off at the mouth at his score a hell ton of points attack and he'll be working again in no time, or maybe he shouldn't sign an incentive laden contract that his employer has to payout on after a record year on the field and he won't have to worry about wrongful termination legal entanglements getting people worried? Yeah, that's the ticket, both of those at the same time!
Honestly, I'm just salty today that The Macho Man is dead and not in the fake HOF for what he did better than almost anyone in history and Cheatervest has still got his AD lapping at his soiled heels like a neutered puppy who can't stop drinking out its owners unrefreshed commode while paying some janitor to shine our stolen crystal football from a decade ago.
Sometimes, life just isn't fair. But then again, who ever said it would be?

OGV...can't blame Hocutt or conflict of interest for this one:
Leach may have run into that problem at Maryland. Most Terps fans and media assumed him to be their guy due in part to Leach's close relationship with one of the school's trustees, Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank, as well as AD Kevin Anderson's comments at a press conference announcing Ralph Friedgen's dismissal. Anderson cited decreased ticket sales as a factor and acknowledged Leach would be a candidate. The day after Maryland's Dec. 29 Military Bowl win over East Carolina in Friedgen's last game, Leach was interviewed in College Park.
But the day after Connecticut's Jan. 1 Fiesta Bowl loss to Oklahoma, the school interviewed and hired Edsall instead. The Washington Post, citing three sources close to the athletic department, said Maryland "got cold feet" about Leach in the 48 hours prior to Edsall's hiring. "They wanted to make the conservative, safe, non-confrontational hire," one of the sources told the paper.
A school spokesman said Anderson is declining requests to discuss the search and unsuccessful candidates.
"They made the decision they made based on whatever it is they were looking for," Leach said of Maryland. "I certainly had a lot of support there, and I think it's a sleeping giant and I think they'll do well."
The aforementioned senior administrator said there's often a disconnect between fans' perceptions of a coach like Leach and those ultimately responsible for such decisions.
"If you talked to football fans, he'd get almost unanimous support to be their hire, but as you move up the ladder, to university presidents and board of trustees, they get a little more antsy," said the school official. "You can't argue with his success in Lubbock, it was a golden era there. Unfortunately, the events of his last two years there, it's difficult for a president or administrator to go to the podium and deal with that."

From Gorten at the SS:
In a Sirius/XM radio interview with Jack Arute and former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach on Wednesday, Golden was asked whether the departure of Johnson and other players recently was a matter of “addition by subtraction?”
“There’s no question,” Golden answered. “The biggest thing is, if you want to be a championship program, if you want to be a winning team, you’ve got to eliminate distractions. And for us it’s black and white, the core values are very simple. We know what we want the team to look like in the weight room. We know what we want the team to look like on the field and in the community.
“And it’s black and white. It’s laid out. The core values are there for them. We educate them. We teach them. But at the end of the day, not everybody can get on the bus. Miami’s a special place. And not everybody can play at the University of Miami. We’re looking for guys that want to be Miami Hurricanes and want to do it the right way.”
GEEZ, U DON'T EVEN HAVE TO READ BETWEEN THE LINES FROM THAT COMMENT. GET OVA IT AND MOVE ON!

Storm showed that he had to go and thats strictly from a workout point of view
If ive said this before im sorry for the repeat
#6 is a talent like I havent seen in a very long time here at Miami and yet he has no problem going to coaches or players and asking questions about what he might have missed on a play. He also had no problem going to the QB saying next time look for me in the flat when they blitz from that side because im open. He will go to an OL and tell him if he could just hold a block a second longer hes putting 6 on the board
Thats something Storm never did on the practice field. It wasnt a matter of coaches not caring or trying with him, it just didnt matter to him up to the point he left this season
Respect your coaches, respect your team mates and respect your workouts

What the bloody fUc! ! U hopes he's a good hire.
dUde, the man only implemented a training regiment for one of the MOST SUCCESSFUL major college hoopdom programs the past 25 plus seasons.
Yeah, yeah he was only at Arizona a short stint in the infinite space of the universe. And as my main jazz man says... So bloody What!
However, the Arizona Wildcats only made the Elite 8 this past season ( And were an OPEN MISSED shot from going to another Final Four. ) and made the Sweet-16 during the 2008-09 season.
Chit, what the fUc1 has that perennial A.C.C. BOTTOM-FEEDER Miami done lately. ABSOLUTELY NADA, eh.
Bottom line is it's all about coaching at the major college basketball realm.
Yet, it helps to have a decent weight/conditioning program. Maybe that's why the Canes BIG MEN FADE AWAY in the crucial second-half, on a season to season basis. LOL
In other words, those Cane PF/C's ain't got the legs. Say it ain't so.
I don't know how Jimbo STOLE Krumpos away from the Arizona Wildcats ( Probably money. ). But it was a sUperb hire nonetheless.
BECAUSE GOING TO Miami is a DOWNWARD carerr move. At least if Krumpo's main responisiblity is the mens basketball program. Of course, working with the baseball team is not chopped liver either.
Bon Jour

The higher up the rUng of institutions of higher learning, the greater number of C.E.O.'s lean towards RIGHT-WING Republican political philosophies. Say it ain't so.
It's known that Leach tends to be COSMOPOLITAN and BROAD-MINDED with a bent of L-I-B-E-R-A-L outlooks. Politicaly speaking.
Of course, some would say Leach's WORRLDLY COSMOPOLITAN personality quirks are odd and eccentric. I bloody beg to differ, though!
fUc1, I got's to dig any head coach who coaches a game of physical violence, which the majority of peoples cherish said sport, and vote Right-wing Republican and or Tea Pary. Say thing, though.

1. Leach don't be kissing no booty of proper high-level university officials. At least not male booty. Get outta' here. Of course, that could have made matters easier on himself at Ttech.
2. Mikey absolute don't tolerate Go BIGot REDneck bigotry of no kind. U-all dig. Enter his analogy of pirates come in all stripes shades and fashions and moi's political gripes.
3. He don't be selling out his players to an agenda-laden hypocritical fan base, reporters and what not. Yikes.
4. Leach don't give in to being bullied by the powers that be at institutions of higher learning.
And finally he don't bow to peoples whom think they are better than him or his former team. Those power that be types, reporters and or fans, for instance.
That's moi's final clownish take on the Leach saga.

Possibly a item from the, "Where there's smoke," file, via Barnhardt at CBS:
"Lowder's exit marks the end of an era at Auburn: Bobby Lowder was once the most powerful booster in all of college sports. He was also the poster child of a booster with way too much power.
As a member of the Auburn Board of Trustees, Lowder used his money and influence to impact Auburn both athletically and academically. Some of it was good. Some of it hurt the school he professed to love.
In 2003 it was Lowder's plane that was used by Auburn officials for a clandestine meeting with Louisville's Bobby Petrino. When the meeting was exposed, Auburn was embarrassed on a national stage. Tommy Tuberville retained his job and went 13-0 the next season. Terry Bowden stepped down as coach in the middle of the 1998 season when he was told by Lowder that he would not be back as coach.
He built a banking empire and gave millions to Auburn. He then presided over the sixth largest bank failure in American history. The Feds now own his Colonial BancGroup.
After 28 years on the Auburn Board of Trustees, Lowder has chosen not to seek another term when it became evident some powerful forces were working against him.
The people I know who are closest to Auburn tell me he did more good than harm and that the school's athletics would not be where they are today without him. Like a lot of successful men, Bobby Lowder leaves a mixed legacy."
Very interesting.
