solar - I don't think Bossman Shannon asked Swasey to stop doing his job, I think it could've been a difference in the type of training Bossman was looking for in the type Golden is looking for ... I dunno, that's just me throwing a hypothetical out there. I just think it also comes back to the top of the chain to be blamed for allowing that to happen, if it did in the first place

If Bossman Shannon has an inkling of a thought in his head that "hey, our players seem to be smaller/slower/etc ... I should get onto Swasey's ass about it" - then why didn't he do that?

Now, Golden comes in with that old school thinking back to Howard and Jimmy, about how the Canes would be the most well conditioned team in the country ... and Swasey seems happier about it

I'm in the exact same thinking of you though, I will never be a slack ass lazy piece of crap just b/c the people around me are, esp. at work. I wasn't raised that way and my inner drive won't allow it ... just got done with work, it's a Friday night and I'm about to go upstairs and get on the damn bike for 25 mins at 19 mph the entire time

OGV - waiting for another fat woman like that to fall on their ass in the middle of the stampede while trying to get to the raffle for a seat at the trial, is the only thing we look forward to each week day at work before the trial

Is that sad? I don't think so .. b/c when it happens, it's hilarious

They've had some people throwing hands at one another b/c someone cut in line ... that's pretty entertaining, esp. when one of the people is doing the whole "windmill" punching technique with both fists

Look at all these morons .. esp. listen to the lady at :31 seconds, she goes apesh*t yelling about some older lady not having a number WHERE'S YOUR NUMBER, WHERE'S YOUR NUMBER bwaahaha

Hovering over a hot grill for several hours in 92 degree weather at mid-day at the tailgate is no easy task. Sure it might appear easy to some football player but they have no idea.

That's why I leave that to hard core tailgaters like RaizeCane and his friends Tim and Dietrich and Kenny and his crew from Fort Myers.

Gotta be careful not to overextend yourself so I make sure to leave that kind of work to tailgating professionals only.

FROM SWEET HEATHER (DINICH):

The overall attendance at Sun Life Stadium, though, hasn't been as bad as the images TV cameras and Twitter pictures have portrayed. Miami ranked No. 39 in the country last year and sixth in the ACC with an average attendance of 52,575 -- more than the average attendance during three of the five seasons the Hurricanes won the national title (1983: 44,555, 1987: 53,920, 1989: 51,634, 1991: 57,964 , 2001: 46,162). Despite the tumultuous season, which ended in the firing of former coach Randy Shannon, the 2010 attendance average was the highest the program had seen since 2004.

NO WAY THAT ATTENDANCE # FOR 2010 IS CORRECT. I AM SURE THAT IS WHAT UM IS SAYING BUT NO WAY THAT'S TRUE.

2002nemo

Probably, they're counting tickets sold and not actual attendance.

Hassan

Guys when you talk about Swasey and the teams getting Smaller and Slower that is just not true. I know all the examples like Glenn Cook etc, but the fact is that if you go talk to Swasey and look at the actual data, our teams of late was bigger and faster then even our 01 championship team. Football is not all about how good of an athlete you are, it is about how good of a football player you are and for some players how good they are relates more to their athleticism then others. There is tons of examples of great athlete's that have done nothing, Tommy Streeter Davon Johnson etc, those guys in years past was guys like Andre Johnson, so the issue is not the 85 deep and how fast and strong those guys are, the issue is the 22 guys who play are not studs any more and we had studs riding the pine for many reasons, like we recruited guys based on size/speed (Shannon rules) instead of how good of a football player they are. Most good college programs will get you faster and bigger and stronger but sometimes you can not teach football instincts (Ed Reed) and Work Ethic (Ken Dorsey) this is the difference in games and not the Size/Speed everyone seems to think decreased. I can go into this topic for days and there is some truth that our workout's sucked and etc but the facts are that in terms of height/weight and strength/speed #'s the data speaks for itself our teams of late compare well to the more successful teams of old, but the issue is they were not the best football players, some of the studs in the weight room did not produce on the field and our gameday coaching has been atrocious for years.

solar, ya, that's just one of the crazy videos of people trying to get a spot in that court room. That lady yelling about the older lady cutting in line and not having a number is insane

If you're a law student or going to be a law student or something to do in your profession with law, I can understand possibly wanting to go and sit in the courtroom for a session ...... but who in the hell are all these other crazed people?

I'm only exposed to that trial for 3 of the 5 weekdays b/c I work weekends, but our station does that 1 hour show each afternoon to recap and do live look-ins of the trial ... I still don't pay attention at all to what's going on during those 3 days.

I know who Baez is and Casey Anthony - that's about it. I forgot the name of the judge, I just know he has that Tracy McGrady lazy eye thing going so I cracked about how he'd be on my team in a pick-up game b/c you wouldn't know where he's passing the ball. I forget the name of Casey Anthony's parents everyday. I don't know who any of the people called to testify are by name - I do recognize the young bug guy they brought in from Nebraska. There was some guy they brought in and put on the stand as an expert - I just remember him b/c he sounded exactly like Elmer Fudd and you couldn't help but laugh when he was talking about forensics or whatever b/c of his Fudd accent

One of our directors and an anchor sat in the control room last week for 1 hour ... 1 HOUR ... talking the entire 60 minutes about this witness saying that, that lawyer saying this, bla bla during the trial that day

I was like, yo, can we please tape some damn promos? I've got some baseball to watch or football throwing in the news room to do

Hassan: Good points. Maybe it's (physical conditioning) that everyone else has caught up to us. I also think its due to so many other teams encroaching into Fla. like never befor.

Christ, Purdue has a pipeline into the Sunshine State for recruits now. Purdue! Not to mention Rutgers, Louisville, WVA, hell, too many to count.

Miami was a trend setter back in the day for recruiting speed - secondary guys that ended up playing linebacker, linebackers that ended up playing end, etc. Jimmy J brought that to Miami. Since then, everyone (ND and Nebraska late to the party) has recognized the athletes coming out of Fla.

I don't think we're weaker or smaller or slower...I just think all the other programs have caught up to(and passed?) Miami in many areas (coaching stability, swagger, intelligent QB's, So. Fla recruits, etc.)

I just realized the above post didn't make any sense at all and certainly didn't have anyting to do with Swayze and/or conditioning.

And to make matters worst for Miami. These thousands of characters probably attempted to give their tickets away or sell them at poor Mac's price. But still didn't get not takers. LMAO

CANT WE ALL JUST GET ALONG

roachcane77

Hassan,

I have to say I disagree with you in some respect on your assertion that we were bigger & faster recently, (under Randy), than in past years.

Yes, if you look at the player's physical stats., (size & weight), bench presses and 40 times, we "may" actually be ahead of the 2001 class.

BUT, if you look at overall physical "condition" and "stamina," these recent, (Randy), players were no where NEAR the "condition" of the championship teams. FOOTBALL condition is WAY MORE than just 40 times and bench presses and size & weight.

Look at the players on film... our "recent" players were downright flabby and "smooth." And their 4th quarter performances speak for themselves.

You only have to hear the comments of the current players who had to work out under both the Randy and the Golden regimes to understand the difference.

I'm totally psyched that we're on the right track to "true" football conditioning. I believe bench press numbers are highly overrated in terms of how a player will perform in the 4th quarter.

And I agree with you, that we hopefully will have these kids "coached up" now, both during the week, and on gamedays.

Hassan

Good Point Roachcane77, I agree, the unfortunate thing is the Strength Coach does not have a metric to show Stamina that he has revealed to compare. I do though Look at our Turnover's both created and given up and look at at 4th qtr yards and points allowed/gained. We are clearly lesser conditioned then our opponents. I have heard this phrase before about Jerry Rice how he ran a 4.6 only, but played like a 4.4. He ran that same speed all game long, maybe even faster in the 4th quarter when guys who did not go as hard as he did in the off season were gassed he was running "4.4" past them.

How good will Forston be in great condition? no more fat out of shape lineman. Brandon Washington was all ACC while he was out of shape, how good will he be this year.

4-Real

Any camp newz Bdc, ohio ?

roachcane77

Thanks Hassan... those are great points about Forston & Washington... hence the reason I said I am psyched about now being on the right track... the athletes are HERE... and NOW we'll have the proper conditioning in place to let them shine!

canechic

Gosh I remember the days when bloggers were complaining because Randy was too hard on the kids. Not letting them have names on their jerseys, practices were too hard, making them get up at 5 am.....oh vay!

SOUP, I'd ask him:

"Every run into a Branch Davidian while in Waco in college? Ever get the idea they were really that crazy or did they keep the sleeping with the 13 year old girls behind the compound with the guns, ammo and petrol bombs?"

Hassan

Soup if you really talk to him would love to have a full write up, you know i love strength and speed #'s any insight you can get into that area of the program would be great

canechic

Honestly I think these kids would benefit more from a spiritual coach, than a strength and conditioning one.

Big Daddy Cane

4-REAL, all i'm hearing right now is that Stefon Diggs wants to commit, but he wants a package deal for his best friend as well.

WindyCane-Forcast1

I looked at the Canes during the spring game and spring games 5 years ago, and these Canes as a whole they are much bigger, faster and stronger than there were 5 years ago. There is simply no disputing that fact. We even had a starting DT that were 5'10. Vegas Franklin was our stud on D.

Now, the Canes have more speed and strength, and some of that is recruiting and some was the strength and conditioning program this summer under Golen and Swasey.

Every team, no matter how good or talented, have to show it on the field. Talented teams often struggle. Even the Canes of 2010 were talented. The 2010 Canes most talented group may have been underclassmen, yet the Canes had 7 players drafted by NFL teams in this draft, and a couple of undrafted players might make NFL rosters.

I think Golden and his staff will surprise many people this year. I am not saying the Canes will win the national championship, but Golden will make sure that they will have the respect of every team they play.

Golden will return the Canes to that status where they scared people when they walked on the field and dominated the game until they left the field because they were competitive, nasty, had a chip on the shoulder, well-conditioned, executed plays, were explosive and well coached.

Aside from all the players that "get it" this year under Golden, the most important fact is that Golden himself "gets it" and he will get the most out of this talent, and he will not allow unforced errors, lack of preparation, lack of execution, blown assignments and INTs to beat the Canes this year.

SOUP

BDC...nah, that's OK, we know what the story is in that case.

Big Daddy Cane

cool SOUP...I agree 1000% my friend.

Posted by: SOUP | June 25, 2011 at 08:34 PM

LOL. Good question. I also make excuses for the program, but I believe Golden will make a difference this season with this talent.

Shannon recruited talented kids, kept them out of trouble but he clearly did not develop that talent and he did not get the most out of his talent on game day. It was frustrating to watch the Canes not execute simple plays the last two years, and the Canes often beat themselves.

A talented Canes team regressed last year and the coaching staff bears a lot of blame.

Here is the deal: When your players are underclassmen and someone says they have "potential," its a complement. When the players are upperclassmen and someone says they have potential, its an insult. Right now, its an insult to say the Canes are talented and have potential because their best players are upper classmen that have not played as well as they should.

But I believe in Al Golden's plan for the program and we will see a much better product on the field this year. Noone will no longer say the Canes have potential but will say that they are a good team.

I can't wait for this football season to start!
