All you work-ethic freaks piss me off. It's not like nobody''s ever died from participating in an overzealous conditioning regimen.

Maybe guys were soft under Shannon; what do I know? I DO know that even if they're soft by the historical standard at UM, those guys were still working out hard by the standards of most athletes, and doing it in heat indices that lead to a high risk of dehydration/cramping/puking.

And the thing is, it's very VERY hard to will yourself to that next level, when the Boss has such a demotivating personality. Shannon's attitude caused a LOT of people to check out (because he's so aloof it's just impossible to deal with him, I think). I have a lot of trouble blaming somebody for just doing what they're told under the circumstances.

Some school kids are worrying about making time for a pedicure, or if dad will buy them the latest gadget.
Those kids in that piece are worrying about where their next spoonful of food is coming from.

Count your blessings.

Raize that is a great way to ease her in to being away. Quite a few of Nicole's friends went away to both FSU and UF, most of them started in the summer. At least with her being so close she can come home for the
weekend....give her my best and Mrs. Raize :)

63,000 children are homeless in Florida
8,000 children are homeless in Central Florida
2,000 children are homeless in Lake County

Posted by: mi@mic@ne | June 26, 2011 at 09:10 PM

The organization I work with runs 28 Crisis Shelters for runaway and homeless children ages 10-17 in Florida covering all 63 counties. All services are FREE.

The parents cannot stay but at least the kids can have a safe place to sleep and access to food, clothing, enrolled in school with transpo, mental health services, referrals for the familiy, etc.

There is no shelter in Lake County but in every surrounding County. The agency that covers Lake County has a shelter in Ocala, but there are also shelters in Oviedo, Cocoa, Orlando, Bartow, Clearwater, St. Pete, Bradenton, Tampa, New Port Richey.

Go to: www.floridanetwork.org

and click on the Find Help:

http://www.floridanetwork.org/findhelp.php

Place your cursor over any county to find the agency that serves that area.

It's possible -- maybe not even likely, but possible -- that the pedicure line was a joke. Joking is not limited to 64-year old hardasses, you know.

Well, that's why it's important for these kids to get a proper education. It may start with pedicures, but eventually they may learn to make Lego videos, if they work really, really hard.

solarcane

They aren't gonna actually make Lego videos on their own.

But they might get dad to buy a game about making a Lego video that they could play online if one of their friends could explain how it works.

Then again their nails might be wet and they would just have to watch a Lego movie someone else took the time to create, and then they would just tell their friend lying next to them how awesome it is, and that one of their other friends knows how to make them.

solarcane

Check these photos, that's a substantial fish kill, and then it happens again in the dead of summer, must smell pretty wicked after a couple days of 118 degree heat.

On the plus side soup could probably catch a fish out of there given a little time.

You open an all you can eat fish joint on the banks of the Salton Sea you pretty much have your azz covered no matter who walks in the door.

Here’s your latest batch of the ACC Recruiting stuff.
Ryan Davis

Star Illinois quarterback Wes Lunt passed on his homestate school and on Boston College when he committed to Oklahoma State last week. Chelmsford tight end-linebacker Tim Joy committed to Boston College over the weekend. Have you been wondering where BC’s relationship with Masuk quarterback Casey Cochran has gone since he was offered a scholarship over a year ago? So have we.

After signing one of the best recruiting classes is program history in February, Dabo Swinney and Clemson are working towards putting together another top 25 class for 2012. Yes, Clemson’s recruiting has been sparking lately, but the next step is developing all that talent. The Tigers got another big commitment when 6’3, 245 pound defensive end Maurice Aiken, who’s rated a top-15 defensive end prospect by Scout and Rivals, chose Clemson. Shakin in the Southland has a breakdown of in-state recruiting for the Tigers so far in the 2012 recruiting cycle.

Duke has added mammoth Texas offensive lineman Tanner Stone to it’s 2012 recruiting class. Ross Martin, the nation’s number two kicker in the 2012 class, is thrilled to be a Blue Devil. Duke finished off a strong week in football recruiting by landing Alex Wolf, a defensive lineman out of New York and then getting in-state tight end Dan Beilinson.

Prospects are raving about Florida State and are, once again, flocking to the Seminoles. Perhaps the fact that Florida State is a hotbed for pro talent — sentiments that solidified when the Seminoles completed a first-round cycle last week — has contributed to the good vibes about the university. Jimbo Fisher has been hot on the recruiting trail and Florida State already has its second commitment for the 2013 recruiting class in cornerback Sojourn Shelton, one of the top DBs in the state of Florida.

A relationship Yellow Jackets football coach Paul Johnson has kept with a player he recruited while an assistant at Georgia Southern paid big dividends for the program last week when that players’ son, touted wide receiver Michael Summers Jr. committed to Georgia Tech. The Jackets’ incoming freshmen arrived on campus last week to start learning the ins-and-outs of Georgia Tech football.

Maryland football picked up three commits in three days last week when it received pledges from cornerback Alvin Hill — whose brother plays at Virginia Tech — quarterback Caleb Rowe and linebacker Brock Dean. Maryland had a strong presence at the NBA Top 100 camp, where a couple of Maryland targets were really impressive. The Terrapins got a surprise visit from five-star power forward Robert Carter last week.

One of the top players for one of the nation’s top high school programs, Jelani Hamilton of Fort Lauderdale’s St. Thomas Aquinas, committed to Miami on Monday. The Bleacher Report has five recruits who will be important to the success of Al Golden’s tenure in Miami.

UNC recruit James McAdoo will be following in the footsteps of a famous relative when he dons a Tar Heels uniform this fall.

A couple pf 2012 Wolfpack targets, Devonta Pollard and Arnaud Moto talked to Pack Insider last week. Former N.C. State recruit Joseph Uchebo, who decided not to come to Raleigh after Sidney Lowe was ousted, will be playing for … the Chipola Indians next fall. That’s junior college, in case you were wondering.

Newport News’ Norm Wood writes that Virginia added some bulk to it’s 2012 recruiting class with the addition of of 300-pound defensive tackle Tyrell Chavis. Can Virginia coach Tony Bennett keep up his recruiting pipeline to Atlanta?

Christiansburg class of 2012 quarterback Brenden Motley chose the Hokies over its ACC rivals Virginia and Georgia Tech yesterday. A day later Norfolk’s Kyle Tucker reported that Virginia Tech quarterback pledge T.J. Millweard switched his college choice to Arizona State yesterday, leading him to ask if we can stop calling recruits "commitments." After pledging to homestate Missouri earlier this month, top-50 class of 2013 swingman Ishmail Wainright has decommitted from the Tigers and has reopened his recruiting, with Virginia Tech in the hunt for the 6-foot-5 small forward.

Here’s an atypical recruiting story: Laronji Vason, a cornerback from Alabama’s Prattville High, committed to Wake Forest yesterday without ever seeing the school. Rivals basketball recruiting writer Evan Bossi writes that, after attending the NBA top 100 camp over the weekend, Wake Forest-bound combo guard Codi Miller-McIntyre is legit.

In the world of finance, this is called a "derivative." Because the guys who came up with these "derivatives" wear ties, and stay up real late, they got credited with an actual contribution to America, even though they'd done nothing of the sort.
