Not that he's in that league, but Warrick Dunn did pretty well as a small guy, too.

Fort Meade High School LB Jamie Willis emerged with Linebacker MVP honors from this past weekend's Al Golden Summer Camp.

"It was way more than what I expected because all the other camps weren't nearly as intense as that (he's attended three other camps)," Willis said. "It was real hot and I did what I had to do. I had to prove myself. It was an audition for me to play for the Miami Hurricanes."

He says that "They didn't say anything about getting an offer yet. I hope I get one, though."

While at the UM camp he worked closely with coach Micheal Barrow.

"He was telling me he liked the way I explode to the ball, my aggression, speed, that I just have to work on my flexibility with my hips, that because I'm a tall guy I need to stay low. He said he thinks I'm a great athlete. He said he'll come see me play my last year in high school."

So far Willis lists offers from FAU, FIU, Purdue, Indiana, Tennessee State, Western Kentucky and Ball State.

He says he has no frontrunners.

"Not really - the one showing the most interest in me right now is FIU," he said.

And if Miami offers?

"They'd be my No. 1 choice," Willis said. "I'm a Miami fan. I'd probably commit pretty quick."

Last season he played only half the season due to a shoulder injury and had 14 sacks.

He says some schools are recruiting him as a defensive end and running back as well, but UM is recruiting him as an outside linebacker.

Jamie Willis vitals: 6-2/195/4.50

OGV - if Jacory isn't putting heat on the ball by his Junior year, he's not putting any heat on the ball at all - maybe 2 to 3 mph more this year?

It's all about torque - arm speed, your core, your legs and how you unleash it from your legs up through your core .. too many times we've seen Jacory as well throw off his back foot, instead of driving off of it

Long toss is your best friend - along with some serious ab/oblique work and leg work

I bet Jacory could put on 20 lbs and still not throw that much harder

SOUP

Wurd on da skreet is that...OchoCinco is straight business when he is working with younger players. He is teaching them how to use their size, quickness, hands and how to find holes in zones. Also how to use a jab step to get off the line of scrimmage.

About the Casey Anthony trial ...

normally we have a 5pm-6:30pm news, since this trial started, we have an hour long show at 4pm that does a recap of what has happened so far that day in the trial and we do live look ins to the trial

You want to talk about an hour of your life, 5 days a week, that you wish you could get back?

So, we go from 4pm-6:30pm straight b/c of that crap

The only interesting part of that trial at all is watching video from early in the morning out side of that court house at the people trampling each other to try and get one of the 50 spots to sit in and watch it from the court room

It's hilarious

Every day so far there have been people throwing fists b/c others are trying to cut in line .. one day there was some huge lady, she must've weighed at least 2 Fiddity to 300 lbs., and she got knocked over while trying to run to the court room ...... she was just sitting there in the middle of the walkway, crying, while others ran past her

That's the only exciting part of this debacle every day

A while back, the William Kennedy Smith rape trial was on ALL DAY. I didn't have cable, but I was able to sit there and watch this trial. It was so weird. I think it was the practice run for OJ's trial a few years later.

This Anthony trial also appears to be heavily overexposed.

We need all hands on deck this year.

orange 'n green in the vein

Six, you're proving my point, he was pushing the ball because he didn't have the size to go with the 6'4" frame to drive it through his base and core due to lack of the extra muscle mass from his base to his shoulders.

Look, I came into UM at 6'6" and change and during my senior year in high school was playing basketball at a trim 169 pounds. My freshman fifteen in college jacked me up to a whopping 185 most if not all of it muscle. In high school, an 18 foot three pointer was just a little too far for me, but once I put on the extra mass, I could drain it consistently from that range mostly because of the triceps and shoulder muscle changes I was able to accomplish allowed me to get the ball off with a little more zip and definitely a higher arc to my shot. Now I didn't start to really approach and surpass 200 lbs until I was a college senior but then again, I wasn't assigned a college sport strength program either, this was what I could do with my spare time when I felt like it. Once I did hit that magic two bills mark the half-court, overhand throw at the rim that was always an iffy to lost cause before because I was overthrowing to compensate for the lack of upper body strength became about a 25% proposition that I could always get to the rim by driving the ball and just had to properly aim and put the right backspin on to have a shot at sinking.

The point is, it took my body type three years to get my metabolism to slow down enough to add the muscle weight I needed to have the confidence in my arm's strength to throw the ball hard enough to have success with the half court trick shot without overthrowing it to the point of it not going where I wanted it.

Now you extrapolate that to the QB's situation, he's going to finally have increased strength in his upper body to not feel like he has to overcompensate anymore on the deep throws, he'll have better, not dramatically better, but increased enough, speed to his delivery to make those deep throws improved so he won't be overthrowing anymore, he'll be driving the ball out of his hands down the field and really, that's all he needs to improve in his throws, that and the outs which again, the small gains in throw speed will help with as well. If he can add those physical delivery improvements into his absorbing of Dorsey's study ethic of the opposition, he can flip the switch and go from disappointing to a complete quarterback.

Just for the record I'll tell you, nobody ever accused Ken Dorsey of being deadly serious either, but you did describe him every week as prepared with video study to the fullest extent he could be for what the defense might throw at him. Plus you always mentioned the great talent at the skill positions around him and that awesome offensive line that AK had ready to tear somebody's head off before ragging on his arm.

University of Miami All-American Ti’erra Brown has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Outdoor Track Performer of the Year, as announced today by Commissioner John Swofford.

Brown is the second Hurricane to earn the prestigious honor, joining former teammate Kristy Whyte, who earned the honor in 2008.

“This is a great honor for Ti’erra,” said Director of Track and Field Amy Deem. “The ACC has many tremendous athletes, and for her to receive this award says a lot about her performance this outdoor season.”

The senior from Hampton, Va., recently earned All-America honors in both the 100 and 400-meter hurdles at the NCAA National Championships, winning the national title in the 400-meter hurdles in 55.642 seconds. With the win, she became the sixth woman in Miami program history to win an NCAA outdoor national title.

OGV - what I'm saying is, if Jacory is going to throw it harder and further, he needs to work on his legs and core and the torque it takes to go from his legs thru his core to the arm speed

In basketball, isn't it just as important to have the legs to shoot as well as the triceps?

Look at someone like Randy Johnson, skinny as a rail, tall and lanky, but that torque he produced from his base up thru his core and the snap of his arm = a fastball that was beyond scary

If Jacory hasn't been able to put more velocity on the ball by his Junior year in college, it's not going to make that much difference in his Senior year in college, even if he puts on the weight that every has said he's gained

He'd be well served to go out and long toss as much as possible

I've mentioned this kid before many times - Chase Litton, 6'4 to 6'5ish Soph in High School here at Wharton High who is a QB ... I saw him last year as a Frosh and just this past week at the USF 7-on-7 .. he has put more zip on the ball in a short time span already and his mechanics look a little different. You could tell he was driving the ball off his back foot

Jacory doesn't do that and Jacory has more body mass than Chase does .... but I bet Chase has has a better arm, and he's only a Soph in High School - in fact, seeing Jacory last year from the Canes sidelines, I know that Chase has a better arm

I've seen guys that look like linebackers or who are just plain big - but they still can't throw the ball very hard

Hell, look at Ichiro

Ichiro is 5'11 and 170 lbs ... but he's got one of the best arms in all of baseball - why is that

You see his motion from his legs, thru his core, to his arm snap? It's not like he's put on any extra muscle at all or weight

BJ Upton as well - same thing - skinny kid, but has a rifle of an arm

On the other hand, take someone like Miguel Cabrera - guy has a average at best arm from the outfield and he's 6'4 250 lbs

Jonny Gomes - 6'1 230 lbs ... has an average at best arm

Football wise - Chad Henne - 6'3 235 lbs. but his arm is crap .... but then you have someone like Drew Brees 6'0 204 with a rifle

3 inches and 31 lbs difference

Some guys just throw harder than others no matter what the size - as simple as that sounds, it's true

You know I receive constructive criticism from you without it ever be taken as a personal attack, that's part of a friendship.
We are all good all the time.

Remember there can only be one know it all on the blog at a time and I got this...

I have thought about relinquishing the crown a little more often though.

I'm grooming DJ Moonbat as the know it all in waiting, because I think he will be able to step right in with one more season under his belt.
He shows remarkable grace under pressure while blogging and can ignore good advice even better than I did at his age, he is a natural. )
