Most Miami Hurricane football fans feel that games on Saturdays in South Florida start with the new tradition of the Hurricane Walk.
Here are the 'Canes arriving for this week's game against Georgia Tech:
But clearly success on the field on the weekend all starts with "The Process" during the week. And The Process appears to be working.
And clearly Al Golden (seen below) will do whatever it takes, including standing on the roof of a pick-up truck in the Sun Life Stadium parking lot at the Canespace tailgate party to make sure that the players and the fans do not stray from The Process.
Just kidding! OK, so maybe the REAL Al Golden did not actually show up at our tailgate party but his look alike was doing a pretty good job of imitating the UM Coach and getting the crowd whipped into a frenzy.
At last count the Miami Hurricanes head football coach had repeated the term "The Process" a total of 1,387 times during media interviews in just his first year in Coral Gables.
Finally, seven games into the 2011 season it appears that those words are sinking into the collective mentality of even the most resistant or hard-headed football players with "The U" on their helmets.
On a relatively cool, breezy and simply spectacular October day in South Florida your Miami Hurricanes beat the Ramblin' Wreck of Georgia Tech 24-7.
The margin of victory could easily have been much more than the 17 point difference at the end of the contest. It certainly did not reflect the complete domination of the Yellow Jackets in front of a decent sized and lively crowd at Sun life Stadium.
The Hurricanes could easily have put 35 points on the board had their offense been just a bit more efficient on a few possessions in the second half.
It was a game in which the 'Canes never trailed and played with a comfortable lead through the day. And while the UM offense may not have had their most productive day of the season the Hurricanes defense certainly played their best game of the 2011 campaign by far.
In fact, Miami may have played their most complete game from start to finish over four quarters this year as the Hurricane were in control of the game throughout the day.
Even the famed University of Miami Band of the Hour sounded good and marched in perfect formation before during and after the game.
The much maligned UM defense absolutely smothered the vaunted GT triple option by stuffing the middle and playing smart, disciplined football on the edges to prevent the Jackets from breaking any of the long runs from scrimmage for which they are known.
With Sean Spence at middle linebacker for most of the game and defensive tackles Darius Smith, Adawale Ojomo, Jalen Grimble and others clogging the middle, Tech was forced to the sidelines where the Miami defense swarmed to the ball like, well like yellow jackets to their hive.
UM defensive coordinator Mark D'Onofrio, who has received his fair share of criticism this year to date, was simply magnificent in preparing and coaching the Hurricane defense against GT. His efforts this week did not go unnoticed by the UM players as it earned him a much deserved and welcomed Gatorade bath at the end of the game.
He also earned the praise of UM head coach Al Golden in his post game interview:
Now Miami has a short week to prepare for another ACC showdown with the Virginia Cavaliers on Thursday night (on ESPN @ 8 PM).
If the Hurricanes can simply manage to stick to "The Process" they could win their third consecutive conference game in a row after dispatching of North Carolina and Georgia Tech over the last two weeks.
We look forward to seeing you at Sun Life Stadium on Thursday night.
And now, with a new and improved UM defense behind us, we can't wait!
Way to go Canes!

Theres a nice edge still about the psyche of this team that needs to be changed. I liked JJs philosophy .. very biblical..when your dealing with violence you got to protect yourself and not just win. This is a biblical war mentality. When Isreal went to war they not only defeated their opponents but they killed their woman and children and took the spoils . Thats the difference between a total personal response in the violence that will complete the focus that the Canes had in the 80s. When the Israel lost the war and the nations sacrificed their babies on the fire that was stealing .. lol.
Our history of cane dominance was built on the principle that all our opponents stadiums were our stadiums. When we went into their stadium we owned them by the way their crowd responded. lol. We silenced their crowd and then took their heart out. Its time to step up to the next level. Its a violent game..the more we try to dominate early and crush them the less our number 1s need to be on the field. C A N E S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How sweet it is!! One step at a time! For once I got the warm and fuzzy feeling of the good old days! Thursday can't come soon enough.
Richard and I drove to Charlotteville's and it was awesome. I won't spoil the beginning of the Cavaliers pep extravaganza for all of you. We were in the fourth row from the top. Scary and very cold.
Have fun if you are going. I have sweet memories of that weekend.
If I can remember, I will post the name of this fabulous restaurant, but it's white table cloth.

Good read... Yes I am down with The Tie and will be sporting one at the next Canes game we attend.
It will harken back to the days of when CaneChic told me of old Fins games at the O.B. when men wore suits!
Can't imagine how a game in September must have been...
Posted by: AngryCane | October 23, 2011 at 12:14 PM
What recruits did we have at the game?
Posted by: sota cane | October 23, 2011 at 12:18 PM
I just want them to know they are not there yet. Theres a next level... it may be that we need more good recruits... heres a stat.. how many plays do our number ones need to remain on the field before we call the dogs off? lol

I wanted to agree with Texascane's comment from the last blog post:
Don't understand the comments about Miller...GT committed their entire defense to stopping the run. LM still had 96 yards and a TD. While I don't understand the pitches to him, a solid run game still showed up yesterday.
The only comment about the offense I would make is that, since the GT linebackers were committing to the run, the tight ends should have had a field day. Haven't seen that yet, but Jacory was uncomfortable from the pressure all day...really enjoyed the run for a first down from him...and the throwaways.
I just get the feeling that this team is getting better and better...like Golden, I would like to have seen this team begin in September with all of its players...
Posted by: Texascane | October 23, 2011 at 10:37 AM
The only real quibble I have with this comment is that if you look at what happened up the middle, it WAS a field day. It was just Tommy Streeter instead of the TEs. And since the guy is at least 6'5", he's almost a tight end.
GT sold out to stop the run. It worked. And it cost them dearly.
Posted by: dj moonbat | October 23, 2011 at 12:31 PM
Johnson was interviewed just before kick off and they asked him how he was going to try to stop LM. He said flat out.. we are going to bring the backs up to fill the holes. Just wished we could have exposed them a little bit better with the play action and the te over the top in the middle.
Posted by: mi@mic@ne | October 23, 2011 at 12:35 PM
It seem like to me that our timing on some of the running plays was off. They took too long to develop. Maybe we should try to quick hit them sometimes.

Or a half back pass with the opposite end dragging down the middle

The Miami fan is a connoisseur. They don't show up for teams that blow. UM needs to seduce Miami again before the crowds show up.
Plus, whatever they call this stadium, it's no Orange Bowl.

Haven't enjoyed two straight weeks of football in a looooong time.

Sorry about the posting. For some reason, I thought the game was in Virginia. Glad it is at home and most of all I hope we get healthy, and the stadium is full.

My wish for today's game: a tie. Unfortunately, 0-0 is out of the question, right now
So I'm hoping for 3-3. Keep the Dolphins winless and make all those FU fans sit out in the sun for hours on end with no resolution.

Shouldn't all turd trolls be in Miami today slurping one last helping of crybaby from their god's cheeks instead of on their mom's computer surfing superior football program's blogs Dan? canechic, don't be shocked if Dan and Hermosa are Jeckyl and Hyde personalities of one sad, scaly, no-wins-in-a-month-two-years-in-a-row football team fan used to deflect attention from one to the other like a ping pong ball.
It's always nice to beat a ranked team not playing your best game and do it in cruise control like on Saturday but down the stretch it's time for Golden to get his team to put together 60 minutes of dominate performance in all three phases. JoJo having the game of life yesterday was awesome to see in person after what he went through with his little boy this year. Thursday's a short week to prepare and if UVA comes out ready to play it could get very interesting very quickly so hopefully the Hurricanes can win the turnover battle again which was the major difference these last few games.
Plus, I don't know if this came across on TV, but after the 12 men in the huddle penalty was called and Miami hadn't actually broken the huddle yet before the flag was thrown, The Necktie called a timeout and absolutely lit into the linesman and the referee about it during the break as the crowd cheered him on (myself included), that was the last penalty recorded against his team in the game. Coincidence or just superior sideline rhetoric being judiciously employed?

Dan is a gator troll.....I really don't think Hermosa is and if I remember correctly she is a female blogger.

How great is this Dolphin game!!!!!
This is one of the worst NFL quarterback performances in the history of the game. Now, the Gator tribute is just laughable.

At least the Broncos competed with Orton. Shame on you Broncos fans. Be careful what you ask for.

Story on Jimmy Graham wow!
Posted by: pbcfrcane13 | October 23, 2011 at 04:08 PM
An ESPN analyst today said that Tebow was like a prize winning clydesdale trying to win the Kentucky Derby!
The sad thing is that Tebow is every bit the athlete that Jimmy Graham is and could be enjoying the same level of success if he would simply stop trying to put the square peg into the round hole! He is not an NFL QB!!
Go 'canes!!

On the Lamar Miller issue here is my 2 cents:
1. Those of you on here know that I am a huge Miami Hurricane fan, Miami Killian grad and a huge Lamar Miller fan. Shoot I have been bragging about him since he signed with UM even picked him as My Legend of the Fall this year.
2. At this point of his career I would classify LM6 is a very good college running back with elite speed, but NOT an elite running back overall (top 5).
3. At this spoint he lacks the elite strength, balance, elusiveness, endurance, durability and physical and mental maturity that only comes with playing experience at the highest levels of college football.
4. IF he stays for his Senior season (very doubtful if he is labled as a late first, early second round pick) I think he could become the elite back many think or feel he is right now.
5. I think his best days are still ahead of him and I think if you asked him that question he would agree.
GO CANES, GO SMASH AND DASH!!!
